  • Its like crack but more addictive!

    By A7FVX0OOEIHYZ on 2004-10-04
    AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!

I cannot stop playing this game. It has consumed my waking hours with the varacity of the most evil predator. It haunts my sleep with dreams of wisps building treant and my waking hours with visions of waypoints and health bars. I cannot escape this curse and so I revel in it!

Play not this game if you be of weak stomach! Play not this game if you lay claim to a social life. Play not this game if you cannot afford it. But most importantly, play not this game if thou liketh the sun or its golden rays, for they will be far from your sight once Warcraft 3 hath struck you.

Know then, all of you that the campaign of both WC3 and Frozen Throne is challenging as well as fun. Know well all of you that it's amazing mix of RPG style gaming and base building mesh seamlessly. Know you most of all that the story of the fallen lands of Lorderon and Azeroth is one of epic proportions and classic style.

Be you aware that as fun as the single player experience is, it pales when held to the light of its online brethren. The ease with which one can find and fight others online is amazing and revolutionary. The joy one gets from the various modes, including a custom battle option, is endless. But greatest of the achievements made by Blizzard, hallowed be thy name, is the continuous updates that not only make play most fair...but also add new features, such as mercenary heroes and extra campaigns.

I am the converted. I walked the path of Warcraft 2. I swam the seas of Starcraft. Now I lay in the valley of the Final Trimutive, Warcraft 3, fully sated and content. Only the promise of Starcraft Two has kept me on this plane of existence, hoping for a summer 2005 release but knowing it will never happen. Woe be to he of the path, for the tireless devotion to a false deity who has defiled himself with a release on console (Starcraft Ghost).

    (Two Years Later)
Oh Yee who have tasted the sweet necter of Warcraft, I have supped of it! In my finest of hours I did what few have done! I defeated the leagons of undead and the Burning on the setting of hard! And I have been most abused. Blizzard, hallowed be thy name, has shown they can easily make a Starcraft 2 in its credits but still refuses to feed my needs... Oh well.

  • If You Play One Real-Time Strategy Game In Your Life...

    By A8DJ4WKJJ8T4J on 2003-12-29
Every company these days has their own version of a real-time strategy (RTS) game and many aren't worth the price as they are cheap rip-offs of other popular ideas. However, if you'd like to play a game created by the company most responsible for the RTS craze, then look no further than Warcraft 3. Not only do you get the most balanced RTS game available which makes for better multiplayer competition but you also get one heck of a single-player campaign. The story in Warcraft 3 is terrific and probably better than most role-playing games. To top it off, Warcraft 3 combines superior graphics with the best artwork you will ever see in a real-time strategy game. The orcs, undead legions, humans, elves and many worlds they explore are a visual as well as strategic experience. And best of all, this game that was well worth the price when it was released is now packaged with the top notch expansion, The Frozen Throne, which is an expansion that is actually better than most regular RTS games these days. If you've never tried the Blizzard series of real-time strategy games, you're missing out. This company is pure class and even provides a free online gaming service called BattleNet that allows you to match your wits against thousands of online gamers. Whether it be releasing some of the most stable games in years or banning griefers on BattleNet that formed a childish organization whose only intention was to backstab allies in multi-player competition, Blizzard is known as one of the best gaming companies in the business, and it shows with their games.

  • An Incredible Game

    By A1PVY5GGPCZU9P on 2004-09-27
I don't think I need to go into detail about the game: you can just visit http://www.blizzard.com/war3 , http://www.blizzard.com/war3x/ , and http://www.battle.net/war3 and they'll tell you everything you need to know about the mechanics and the features of the game. There are some things that I can say about it.

The graphics are as good as you'd ever need, but that's not to say they're bad; quite the opposite actually. The game has a cartoonish tone to its graphics that really lends itself to the fantasy atmosphere and the spell effects are top-notch. At first glance, the game may seem to be about who gets the strongest hero first, but that's certainly not the case. The number of strategies are infinite and everything can be easily countered by an experienced player. There is a heavy emphasis on micromanagement and spellcasting in the thick of battle that is overwhelming even for me, a 6-year starcraft veteran. I recommend dialing down the game speed during especially large battles, because the computer will wipe you out if you give it the chance.

The single-player story is absolutely stellar. Photo-realistic CGI Cinematics precede and end each of the campaigns, and there are no traditional mission briefings as such. The in-game cinemas help to advance the story and serve to never take you out of the game world; this all adds up to a immersion in the story like no other. Since each of the campaigns revolve around a single hero, it's not hard to get emotionally involved in the story, and that's a rare feat. One of the reasons I love Blizzard's game so much is the wealth of detail they inject into the history of the worlds; in this case, the realm of Azeroth. Half of the instruction manual is devoted to the backstory of each of the four races and explanations of all of the units; far beyond just describing what they do.

It's very easy to pick up and play - the orc tutorial mini-campaign at the beginning is really all you need, but practice helps to master the strategies and find the one that works for you. Battle.net can be a hostile place, inhabited mostly by boys in their early teens; but more often than not you get involved in a great game with several other likeable people who aren't having an ego trip.

The only complaints I have is that even though the story has as much depth as most novels have, it steals quite a lot of elements from Starcraft. Some of the spells/skills can be recognizable from Starcraft, and Diablo, both produced by Blizzard as well. While the story in Reign of Chaos (original warcraft III) is amazing in itself and ends on a great note, the story in The Frozen Throne (the expansion to warcraft III, also included in the battle chest) ends on quite a downer. You could stop at Reign of Chaos and not miss much story-wise, but it's only a minor complaint, because the Frozen Throne campaign is just as stellar, if not even more so than the RoC Campaign. The biggest complaint I have with this pack is the strategy guides included - they're nothing like the ones included in the Starcraft Battle Chest. They're "Official Battle Chest Guides" which only provide strategys for the campaigns. They have no maps, unit descriptions, and only a few general tips for other game types. There are even references to maps that aren't even there. Not to mention they're very small, to fit in the box. I wasn't very happy with them at all.

Overall though, this is an incredible game, recommended to anyone who loves a challenge and a great story.

  • Great Deal

    By A4JP4T1F95D0A on 2005-12-03
This is a very good bargain, less than half of what you would pay if you bought each item seperate. The strategy guides are good, but not really necessary if you have played Warcraft 1 and 2, as well as the other similar games. Warcraft 3 is challenging, but not overly so. I was put to the test in many parts, but I never got frustrated. The storyline as always is excellent, and the graphics have improved ten fold from the last installment. This is certainly a must buy.

  • Battle for lifetime, RPG for one week

    By A2E034FTFG93SO on 2005-03-24
I love this game the most. I've played W3 and extension FT for a long time, and I still enjoy it. This chest is way better than the single CD case. People who purchased this one should know what I'm talking about. Perfect contents inside!!!

I gave this one 4 stars out of 5 because the RPG is boring. I believe it is the only negative part of this great game. I almost finished all storyline for one week. However, I think there will be some update on the internet. But that will never be the reason to keep your hands away from this chest, it's the best game in the best case after all.

  • A great game for those who think
    By ANFX12WCN4KBU on 2005-09-17
I'm only a teenager, and yet I've always seemed to enjoy this game. No, I am not addicted to it. I play it everytime I have the chance to do so. Many reviews have been hating this game for A) Bad graphics and B) too little units and C) The Hero units.

First of all, the graphics are a sacrafice in order to enhance better online gaming quality. During Starcraft, Blizzard strived so hard to make units so realistic that the graphics basically killed the idea of playing a fluent game without lag. With Warcraft, it's much less often you get someone who's computer cannot support the graphics and therefore hold up the game.

Second is the fact of too little units. This is one of the reasons I love the game. You THINK!!! It's not a race who can build up the most units in ten seconds and attack. It's more of the idea of what you can do to the units they have with the units you have. You always have to be scouting their base, find out what untis they have, and get some perfect units to counter them. This way, a person with 10 units can take out 20 units with a weakness to those ten units.

I think the hero ability fairly ties in with B. The fact that you can have a certain unit with special abilities is excellent. It's like the commander. When the hero dies or is weakening, the units retreat. This is the sense of a real battle, not a suicide mass unit rush.

This game is one of the greatest I have played. It is so much more complex (in a positive way) than Starcraft or Diablo. I recommend it for anyone who is willing to have a concentrated mind in order to acheive skill in this game.

  • the best game in the world
    By AH0EMVKQG4C1L on 2005-03-25
I live off of this game. I can't stop playing it untill somebody forces me off. The Battle net is the best part of the game even though the campaign is briliant. On battle net you are able to go and play with billions of people across the globe. I wouldn't know how to make this game any better than it already is. In conclusion I won't stop playing this game untill it breaks and then I would buy it again.

  • Very good game, but not quite great
    By AKMJJES6FE2M5 on 2005-07-27
I had a lot of fun with this game, much more than I thought I would. Warcraft 3 is a good old-fashion real-time strategy (RTS) game, with a somewhat outdated resource collection model and base-building formula. It also aspires to be a roleplaying game (RPG), thought it is only partially successful. Overall, if you like RTS games, this one is worth a try. However, I found it not to be as good as some of the more recent games, like Rise of Nations and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.

Gameplay: Warcraft 3 is remarkably like Warcraft 2 in a lot of ways, which is both good and bad. On the good side, it's fairly easy to learn and quite fun for a while. You choose one of four races to play (which are all distinct); gather gold, lumber, and food; build structures and units; explore the map; and conquer your enemies. It's a very typical 1990s-style RTS game. However, Warcraft 3 adds hero units to the mix, which greatly impact gameplay. These units can gain levels as in a RPG-style game and have special abilities. You really cannot win a game without them. Each race has a choice of 4 heroes to choose from (with The Frozen Throne expansion loaded) and there are neutral heroes that can be recruited. The hero model works quite well with the single-player campaign, since it weaves them into a broad story. However, it makes skirmish games a little awkward, since you are required to both build bases and find creeps (random monsters) for your hero to fight in order to gain levels.

The single-player campaign is both quite long and well done. Actually, it seemed a little too long once I played through the original campaign and the Frozen Throne expansion. The story is the typical good vs. evil theme, which gets really hard to follow by the mid-point. However, the missions are generally well done, with a good mix of RPG-style adventuring and a heavy-dose of base-building and conquest. The missions are designed to allow you the chance to play all four races, and I didn't get the sense that they were just practice for multiplayer online games. That is, for solo gamers like myself, Warcraft 3 has a substantial amount of single-player content.

Warcraft 3 is good, but does have some issues. Some of the single-player missions are quite hard and will require much reloading of saved games in order to complete. Still, the AI can be a little lame. There were countless times that my base would be invaded, and my units would not automatically move to fight the enemy. However, AI enemies do fight smart, often first attacking your units that can do the most damage to them. Rather surprisingly, the game does not have a pause feature so that you can look around the battlefield and give orders while pausing. And unlike recent RTS games, Warcraft 3 limits you to very small armies. You'll be lucky to have 20 fighting units at any given time. Additionally, the game just seems behind the times in other ways. The camera doesn't really zoom, graphics are cartoonish, and the micromanagement can be burdensome at times.

As with every other Blizzard product I've played, the game was perfectly stable and well polished, and I came across no bugs or typos. In addition to a single-player campaign that will last around 70+ hours for the average player, there are a large number of skirmish maps included, multiplayer capacity, and a map editor. The Battle Chest itself includes a lot of reading materials, such as instruction manuals and hints/tips guides. As usual, Blizzard has supported the game well with patches and new official maps that are downloadable at their website.

Graphics: The typical Warcraft visuals. A bit cartoonish, but with a lot of vivid colors and diverse environments. Spell effects look convincing, and there are day & night cycles that give the world a living feel. The game is actually cute in many ways and is probably supposed to be that way. The graphics will not win any awards, but they do serve their purpose. As with Diablo 2, Warcraft 3 has some of the best cutscenes I have ever seen in a video game.

Sound: There is a lot of great voice acting in the game. Some of it is very funny. The music is also well done and appropriate to the mood of the game.

Overall, I recommend Warcraft 3 (plus the expansion) to anyone interested in RTS or fantasy games. It's a well-made strategy game with lots of challenges, a epic (though rambling) story, and an RPG element in the form of heroes (which, again, can be a plus or a minus). If you can get past all of the micromanagement that the game requires and some other outdated elements, Warcraft 3 should provide many hours of entertainment.

  • A good game but,,,,
    By A2FI2F1T8EZWEF on 2003-12-04
Warcraft III and it's expansion has many flaws in the story, the missions, and even some of the units. When I mean flaws, I mean a TON of things were ripped out of Starcraft. Most of the Warcraft II's units have returned. There are two new factions: the Undead Scourge and the Night Elves. The Undead Scourge resemble the Zerg from Starcraft. Just read the manuel and you'll see how similiar they are. The way you build their buildings are similiar, you have to build it on the dead creep. A great thing about Starcraft is the incredible storyline and the characters that were introduced. The superb voice acting actually made you care about the characters. Not the case with Warcraft III. You have to rely on your heroes too much. I didn't think it was a good idea to implement RPG elements. When I played some of the missions, I could tell I had done it all before in another game. In one mission in The Frozen Throne, it resembled a mission from Brood War PERFECTLY. You had to destroy an enemy base while the enemy was idle for a few minutes. Brood War's version was easier and I was forced to use cheats on The Frozen Throne's version.
Personnaly, I think Starcraft is a better game just for the fact that Warcraft III is simply the fantasy version Starcraft in 3D(graphics are awesome, by the way. Good for customs) and plus it came with Humans and Orcs.

  • Imbalanced integration of RPG with RTS
    By A3H7BZ1XZKEOSR on 2004-12-10
This game is entertaining--don't get me wrong. However, it is not and never can provide the well rounded multiplayer experience of Starcraft and Warcraft II because of the "superhero" aspect of the game. Top strategy for this game? Spend as little time as possible building economy, infrastructure and army, and concentrate on upgrading your heros. Two upgraded heros will thrash two or three GROUPS of units. For those who enjoy the challenge of balancing production power with speed, prepare to lose when I build a minimal war machine and upgrade my heros. Economy does play a factor if two players both focus on character development, but armies are of secondary import which is a shame for a RTS.

If you are more interested in RPG type play, this game is for you. If resource management and military strategy are more your cup of tea, stick with starcraft. While I still usually win, I have to admit this game fell short in my estimation. Superweapons and hero units are great--but they should not be available right from the start of a round, and should need much more cost and effort to develop.

  • Horrible
    By A2K8WA3TBVYN42 on 2005-06-14
This is one of the worst games I've ever played. The RPG element is almost non-existant. The RTS element is incredibly dumbed down -- just build a few soldiers, a few archers, a few spellcasters, and a few artillery, and attack, and that sums out every campaign mission and online game you'll ever play. The story is ridiculous, it's a copy of Starcraft/Brood War almost to the letter -- you start as good guy, good guy turns bad, you play as formerly good bad guy, then you beat the bad guy who commands the formerly good bad guy. Every creature you face talks trash to you right before you kill it, along the lines of "you fool, you DARE challenge me!" Every single time. Just about every cutscene involves some idiot getting tricked into joining the bad guys, like in Brood War except even dumber.

If Blizzard hadn't built up so much goodwill with Warcraft 2, Starcraft and Diablo, this game would have been in the bargain bin after two weeks. 0/10 and may god have mercy on your soul.

  • Awesome, if you're into that sort of thing.
    By A2UTW8GYGUYJWM on 2006-08-10
Locked away in my room at 3am, headphones on my head and whispering into my microphone at my teammate on Skype, I play Warcraft like an addict.

The single player version is very interesting, with a great storyline and cool cutscenes. You get to play as several different heroes from different races, and the story develops throughout each one, continuing into the next race. There is one campaign for each race in the original version (Scourge, Sentinel, Orc, etc) and there are even more campaigns in Frozen Throne, along with a "Bonus Campaign" which I highly recommend.

It will take many many hours to finish the campaign, so the game is definately not too easy. However, some levels can get frustrating because of their difficulty. If you're having problems, that's what the strategy guides are for. The battle chest comes with guides that have level-specific tips; they tell you where to go to get a secret item, or what sorts of units to create to counter the attacks.

The gameplay is very similar to that of Starcraft and similar as well to Age of Empires. The controls are simple; click to select, click-drag to select a group, and right-click to move or attack.I find it very easy to control what I want to do, and make 'control groups' (ctrl+a number) to select my units quicker.

The graphics are solid, the music fits the mood, and the game is very, very addicting.

The best part, in my opinion, is DotA - get your friends together and download the map, and spend hours developing your strategy with 77 different heroes, each with their own special ablilities. If you want to play the normal version, that's available as well on Bnet. Playing online is completely free, and updates are sent through the bnet portal.

    I love this game!

  • I'm still playing it
    By A2L96BA3NBNMYO on 2007-02-02
Nothing can beat this game. Ive played many games around the time I bought this game (5 years ago) but I always find myself running back to this game. Its so fun building your hero and creating this unkillable army/hero and demolish your opponent. Don't get me wrong this game is very hard starting out you will suffer alot of losing streaks online. I suggest playing the computer(not easy) and actually beating him five times before playing guys online. Because you will be completely owned. Ok now its time to talk about the game.

GRAPHICS: Around this time the graphics are great its kinda cartoonish but hey its blizzard what you expect.

GAMEPLAY: Its a RTS so you basically do the same thing like typical RTS games do build an army and destroy your opponent. But there Is one thing that makes this so different and more fun than ordinary RTS games. Its the heroes. You can level up your hero up to level 5 by killing monsters all around the map and you occasionally get items that will boost your hero's attributes. This also makes this game difficult to some players because It takes alot of multi tasking to create an army and level up your hero (two heroes) to level 5. The good side of this is that there Is always action in this game. There is no seize fire. Due to all the creep jackings(when another player attacks you from behind while you're trying to level up your hero) and expansion harrasing(when flying creatures or heros harras your gold miners in your expansion.) Its so addicting that you will be up for nights trying to think of a strategy to defend expansion harrasing. The Game is wonderfully balanced. Don't listen to the people saying NIGHT ELVES ARE IMBALANCED!! ORC ENSNARE IS IMBALANCED!! Its not, Its probably the most balanced RTS since Starcraft, Age of Empires II. They're four races each race has its own advantages and disadvantages.
    The four races are:
Human: (my favorite race) A good and versitle race. Has the best casters. Has the best towers. Has the best tri hero combination, but its less mobile than other races making them easy to ambush, and it takes alot of multitasking with this race because it almost need all of thier buildings. And that hero 'the Archmage' is way to dependent on.

Orc: (my least favorite race) A strong and durable race. Has the best anti -air. Has the best melee units in the game. Has the best immobilization units in the game. Has The most balanced heroes. Has the best siege units. They run faster than other races. And its the easiest race to learn, but their casters suck donkey nuts, their base defense is one of the easiest to kill. and other races' heroes are generally stonger than orc heroes. And they look ugly.

Undead: A powerful race but the most vulnerable in the beginning. They look cool. Its fun controlling the evil guys. Has the strongest Heroes but over time they get weaker. Has the best regeneration /healing ability. Has the hardest base to destroy. And probably have the most powerful endgame units in the game. But getting to the endgame is tuff, they have the most vulnerable melee units (except abominations), thier workers are easy to kill, and their heroes are waaay to dependent on, Orcs tend to be hard to beat with this race because orcs always rushes.

Night Elves: The most versitle and complete race. Has the best ranged units. Has the coolest looking hero in the game 'The Demon Hunter'. Their endgame units are powerful but not the best. They have a good healing ability. Their units are the cheapest. But this race is hardest to learn(its not as easy as everyone says it is) they get owned by siege units due to their "unarmored units"(takes double damage from siege) is essential to the army. Their base is one of the easiest to kill, and the only good hero they have is the demon hunter.

Also another drawback of this game is that it feels more like a RPG/tactics game than a RTS because of the cost of the units being 120-420 gold and 10-80 lumber instead of the typical RTS cost of 20-40 gold and 10 lumber. so most of the time you want your units to live as long as possible due to the horrendous cost. plus you have to kill creeps(monsters around the map) because if you dont you will get beatdown by a level 5 hero. no matter how many towers you have or how many times you upgraded you units. You will lose.

STORY: Somebody said that this is a ripoff from starcraft and it is. The story is horrible and the campaign is boring. The fun part is when you play online.

Overall this game is very fun, Ive played it for over 4 years. There is even tournaments for good players like me, but this game is very difficult but if you be patient with it. You will be hooked to it for a lifetime. Also don't judge me over my bad grammar. I try hard to correct my mistakes. So I dont want a grammar nerd thrust a spear into my mouth because I forgot a period. If you can read it thats fine with me.

  • o my goodness...................................................................................
    By A3RTDI5XKJXE09 on 2005-12-29
first off this game is amazing and has excellent gameplay. Yes, yes i know you think it has bad graphics. But it allows the game to take up very little space in ure computer and prevents a lot of lag.

The new hero units and battle.net are the reasons to buy the chest. The Reign of Chaos(ROC)is in my opinion, better than the the frozen Throne, but both games are top notch. The heros are like super powered uits that start on lvl 1 and can grow all the way to lvl 10. A lvl 10 hero is virtually unstoppable, but hard to achieve. They also have abilities that make them even more powerful like calling down stars and turining into demons.

Battle.net is the online part of Warcraft 3. Many people play it so you can play quick games much faster and the custom games are very fun. Blizzard came through once again and made an excellent game for all of us. It really isnt possible for someone to say this game is bad unless they arent good at it........

  • Bought the chest to play Dota.
    By A3LDIJRTJPOC8T on 2006-08-18
One day I was hanging out with my friends, and I saw them playing Warcraft Dota Map on Battlenet. I had so much fun watching them play that I told myself I have to get into the action. Spent less than $30 to buy the chest on Amazon. Got it within a few days with free shipping. In my opinion, nowadays $30 can't even get you a full tank of gas anymore. This chest provides me with hours of entertainment with my friends, all for less than $30!! I think getting it is a no brainer and a bargain.

  • The most fun strategy game
    By AQL1IVBZPIACM on 2004-08-20
Blizzard has a great history with making games and providing online support. It ain't perfect, but seriously, it's good enough to knock out the competition, which is good enough for anyone. It also makes games that are more popular than its rivals, so online play is even funner with the more people.

The graphics, sound, gameplay, story, strategy, balance of opposing factions, creativity, and so forth are all well-designed. And unlike other strategy games, this game is fast-paced: an online game can easily last only 15 minutes, whereas other strategy games are just waaay too time consuming. Warcraft focuses on the fighting, other strategy games focus on the building of a city and the fighting. I like fighting only, so Warcraft is a blast for me.

Online play can get pretty intense, since real-time strategy games are usually only played by serious fans. However, the single-player campaign is a guarantee success for anyone and especially with the add-on (the Frozen Throne), it's long enough. Like any game, it's fun to play with your friends and this game can be hilariously fun with your friends.

Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos is great. The Frozen Throne is not really an add-on, it's more like Warcraft 3.5. It's the best add-on I've seen in a while for any game.

The single-player campaign guides that come with this set is OK. It doesn't cover Easter Eggs in the game and provides boring generic strategy. It gets the job done, but there are funner ways to play the campaign.

  • The best strategy game ever made

  • Great Game
    By on 2006-08-11
This game is great!!!The only thing I don't like about is that you can't have very many troops at once. See there's the food resorce that you increase by building farms. Each troop takes up food, but the problem is you can't use any of the food over 90 and some of the troops take up 5 food!!!Also, the 14 day free trial for World of Warcraft would not work.

  • One of the best.
    By A2I349CLR3BC3D on 2005-01-06
I own, and have completed the entire game, and I think this game rocks. I love undead, not just in this game, in general. And this game fulfills all my dreams. The Crypt Lord is my favorite unit/hero. Wickedly cool story. Great characters. RPG-like leveling up of heros, and the ability to give your heros spells and items adds a great new individual feel, rather than simply focusing on only your armies. Starcraft, eat your heart out.

  • Online Play is Great

Online Play is great as well as the campaign. Get friends to buy it too and play lan games.

Play the custom maps, good fun to be had.

This game rules! First of all the package comes with "warcraft 3: reign of chaos", "warcraft 3: the frozen throne" and the strategy guide for "reign of chaos" and a manual. I once loved the campaign mode (sorry, can't spell) first the human mode, then the undead mode followed by the orcs and nightelves. Each story line affecting the other races. Once i beat that i created custom games verses A.I. (custom game is where you choose a level and battle an opponet you start with a main base, a gold mine and around 5 workers, gathering resources, building buildings and units and attack the opponet). Once i had mastered the campaigns, and continued to beat the A.I. i thought i'd pop in the frozen throne disk. I was rewarded with 4 new campaigns with brand new heros, units, scenarios and maps. I once again concered them all. I went to the battle.net option and was blown away. There were thousands of people battling custom games. I thought i was good, there were many people better than me, and many people worse than me. It was awesome, i could work with someone or work alone. I also tried another mode where people allow players to test out maps and secenarios they invented (another feature accessable through the warcraft: frozen throne game). It was awesome, the graphics were brilliant and the different strategys were amazing. I highly recommend this game. (Sorry about the story telling, i was experimenting with different types of reviews...)

  • This game kicks A$$!!!

Above all other war simulators WC3 is by far the best! The graphics are amazing. The game play is spectacular. And of coursse the Battle.Net option is the best part of it all. You can play against people all over the place. It's got the chat feature and sooo many custom games!

You Like Warcraft 2? This exceeds By far. It gets a 10 in my book!

  • You will forget what you have paid for!!!

You want to buy this game because you heard your friends are addicted to it? You want to buy this game because you just tried to play it on your friend's computer and you feel like playing it again? Or you want to buy this game because you just saw how much interesting this game is? The problem is you are afraid that you would regret buying this stuff and think its a waste of money.

After you buy it, you install it on your machine, either Windows or Machintosh, you go online and play several games with other people around the world (of course you should know how to play it first), I guarantee you would forget about the money that you have saved since you were a child (actually not that expensive though), even I forgot how much I bought it!!!

I bought this game just because I used to play it on my friends' computers while I was staying in campus dormitory. We played custom games using LAN thru dormitory network. After I moved out off campus, I felt that I lost something very big in my life. At last I got it back, I got my life back! I bought this battle chest and went online and it was so fantastic! But becareful of it, you would forget to eat, sleep and call your girlfriend!!!

  • Warcraft III Battlechest Review
    By A2GR89J5Q7OTWN on 2006-03-18
I enjoy playing strategy games. I have been playing Warcraft II for a long time and really liked the concept.

Warcraft III is even better as the concept of heroes has been introduced. The animation sequences also look good.

Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.

  • Caution: this game has been known to be seriously addictive
    By A1WY35UGMD49AE on 2006-07-06
If there is an art to making seriously addictive computer games ( and I believe there is ), then the people over at Blizzard entertainment are master's of their craft. Fan's of Blizzard's work wonder why it takes them so long to make a game, because they never have their games come out on the promised time. It's because they spend so much time and effort on the games. I usually spend most of my time playing rpg's on the ps2, but sometimes I get bored and play some computer games. I bought Warcraft3 and it's expansion the Frozen Throne a while back and to this day I've never gotten bored with it. You can play the campaigns on insane mode for a real challenge and even after you pass the campaign's you'll never get bored playing other player's online. Out of all the video games I've ever played ( which is a lot ) this game rank's in my personal top 3. And this isn't all!! Play this game and you'll think it will be hard to find another game that's just as addictive, but then after that all you have to do is play all the other games Blizzard has made ( even the older ones like Diablo, Diablo2, or Warcraft2 ) and then you'll respect Blizzard as much as me. And after all that their's World of Warcraft. I'd recommend to any working man not to buy World of Warcraft. It's just to addictive. You'll end up calling in sick to much and then you'll lose your job.

  • Solid Game
    By A2OTX0Q81MTQD3 on 2006-08-31
Its a great game even if you only play offline like I do. Definitely measures up to Blizzard standards and is as good if not better than all its precursors. Great game at a fair price!

  • Excellent Game, truly unbelievable!
    By AYG2SBEV15LXV on 2004-01-20
This game is great, what else do you expect from Blizzard? With combining both "Reign of Chaos" and "Frozen Throne", its a winning combination. "Reign of Chaos" is a great game that takes you through 4 campaigns with 4 races, the new Undead and Night Elf races are nice introductions to spice up the game and evolve it from the times of Warcraft II. Much has changed here, this game has a little medieval touch to it which I really like, pretty easy to understand what an axe is, unlike in Starcraft(the sci-fi weapons). They made this game well because there is no "easy" difficulty setting, only "normal" and "hard", so you'll like trying to win the levels and put a little more effort in(unless your a ... and have to use cheat codes to spoil the game). And the campaign is definetly NOT easy, only the human campaign is truly easy. Once you get to the Night Elf campaign, well good luck, you'll need it(especially on the last level). Sure, certain missions are easy, but thats what the expansion pack, "The Frozen Throne" makes up for. First, I'd like to say the the campaigns on TFT are EXTREMELY HARD. You start off with the Night Elf campaign, and the first mission isnt too difficult, but if you compare RoC's(Reign of Chaos) with this one, you'll see that the bar of difficulty has been raised. Next, you go to the Alliance Campaign, which pretty much entirely revolves around the Blood Elves, which is a new, non-playable in custom games, race. You also get to use the Naga forces again as you did in one Night Elf mission. You then move onto the final, and hardest, campaign, The Scourge. Yes, the undead are still here, and DAMN is this campaign hard. Every mission requires skill, patience, and raw brutality to win. Anyone who says this campaign is easy, must be the best gamer of all time. These missions are hard, and are very long. This will keep you mesmorized in the game. There is also a Bonus campaign!! Just when I thought things couldnt get any better. This campaign is looonnnggg(if you have all 3 Acts downloaded, you can get them by simply logging onto battle.net on your account), Rexxar, a beastmaster, goes through many many levels of obstacles. This Bonus campaign makes up for the lack of an Orc campaign in TFT. This campaign is a story, and never cuts off, just revolves around Rexxar, its absolutely awesome! 4 new heros(1 for each race, and even more that you can hire!) add even more to the excitement. You should really get a battle.net account(and this is great, its totally free) so you can automatically download new patches to make your game better! I really love battle.net, no paying 20 bucks a month to play with millions of other people online, no 3 months free then pay, none of that! Its just a free gamer universe for Blizzard games. This feature here will guarantee that even when you finish the campaigns, battle.net will bring you YEARS of enjoyment to the game. Another thing to add in, this game was named "Game of the Year" by Gamespot, and its so true. I dont see how you could not like this game, aside from little complaints that really dont give a serious down to the game, you'll love this! This game is definetly worth your money, and putting the expansion with the original in the same box, is an even greater plus! Buy this game, its worth every penny, you will NOT be dissappointed.

  • Real Time management gets overwhelming
    By A2VVCTHFIBDND1 on 2004-08-05
The Battlechest is pretty good. You get both WarCraft3 and its expansion (the Frozen Throne) and 4 manuals: a base manual for each game (although the base manual for the expansion is tiny), and a quest manual for each game.

I think I would have loved this game had it been turnbased. But it is real time, and managing a group of warriors here, your workers there, your buildings somewhere else, another group of warriors in another place again all in real time is a huge toll on me. Ok, there are hot keys (to switch among groups of units) that make your life easier, but it is still boring to have to care for so many things at once.
I stopped playing this game very soon.

  • A good strategy game - but more for kids.
    By A42P3XRK8W8BU on 2005-09-23
I very involved plot with good UI and AI but seems geared to the comic book crowd. Play Rise of Nations or Medieval Total War if you want a more mature game.

  • Warcraft III - WoW Syndrome
    By AIFVMJIACYM6S on 2006-02-24
I ordered this game after I had been hooked in World of Warcraft. I really wanted to get back into this type of game and experience what I had on my older mac machine with the original. I was totally hooked. I have been through both games and loved both of them, not to mention there are many secrets that shed light on WoW!
