Playhut Disney Princess Magic Castle Hideawayx$19.99

(18 reviews)

Best Price: $19.99

A magical, enchanted adventure awaits in this lightweight, portable play tent from Playhut. The exterior looks like a beautiful castle and shows favorite Disney Princesses. It features a flapping door and tunnel port for expandable play. Folds easily with Playhut's patented twist 'n fold technology. Measures approximately 30" x 30" x 30". Product may vary slightly from item shown.

Oh sure, it might not be a castle in the strictest, most literal sense but with a little imagination, this fun and simple tent will provide the basis for all sorts of magical adventures. Three of Disney''s most enduringly popular princess characters, Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty, are depicted on three of the four sides while the fourth provides a simple flapped doorway. The bright purple tent practically sets itself up as you take it out of the box and we had very little difficulty collapsing it again using the included directions. While this tent is not suited for camping, it would be perfectly suited for backyards and play rooms. --Charlie Williams MPN: 071652 - UPC: 053762716528

  • Let Your Imagine Run !

2yr old dd received this as a gift and uses it every day. She loves the fact that she has her own little space to call her own... she even allows mom & dad to join in every once in awhile :)

    PROS
    - Popular Princess theme
    - Vibrant colors
    - Easy to access door on one side of play tent
    - Open roof so that mom & dad can check in
    - Easy to fold in half or twist to it's smaller original state for storage

    CONS:
    - Would have liked a vinyl case to store it in
    - Tips over easily (however it's light enough for little ones to tip back into place)
    - Not very large... 2 smaller children can stand in it or possibly sit, however there would be no room for toys. Mom or dad can fit, however only with child sitting on lap and must pull tent over your head, there's no way an adult or larger child could crawl thru the door.

OTHER REVIEWERS COMPLAINED OF THE METAL BENDING. WE'VE NOT HAD THAT PROBLEM YET, HOWEVER I CAN SEE HOW IT MIGHT HAPPEN. I WOULD SAY FOR THE MONEY, THIS IS AN AVERAGE TO GOOD BUY. DD SEEMS TO LOVE THE "TENT" ATMOSPHERE. IT DOESN'T TAKE UP AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF SPACE AND IT IS EASY TO TAKE DOWN AND STORE.

  • Smaller than expected

    By A3VMMWCKEKVK9A on 2004-07-29
I was disappointed when I opened the box and set up the tent because it was much smaller than I expected it to be. My friend's daughter has an almost identical tent which is much bigger. Apparently there are two different kinds, one made by Playhut and one made by The Disney Store.

  • Cute, durable but wish it was just a little bigger.

We purchased this almost 2 years ago when my daughter was 4. It's very durable, folds and unfolds easily - it's been dragged all around the house and has retained it's shape nicely. It's light weght so my daughter can move it and around and set it back up herself. At 6 years old, it still gets used but I think it's close to it's end of use. Now she prefers to make forts with sheets but that requires mom's help so this still works when mom isn't available. Our only complaint is that it's a bit small. Even at four, her and a friend could just sit in it. It doesn't fit two kids and a bunch of dolls - which is what she really wanted and why the forts with chairs and sheets has won out. But it has been used a lot as the 'snack room'. It's been used a lot and I would recommend it but if you find something similar that is slightly larger, I would say purchased that instead.

  • Very plaesed

My 2 year old daughter recently recieved this as a present from her grandparents. She loves the disney princesses and was ver excited. I was happy to see how easy it was to put up and take down, she plays with it in her room almost everyday and I love the fact that we can take it down before she goes to sleep. Overall we are very pleased with this tent, although it would be nice if it was a bit bigger so that I could play in there with her.

  • A lot of fun, but the frame isn't the best!

    By A1JSF7PF5F6BEM on 2004-10-20
We bought this for our daugthers 4th birthday because she always wanted me to make her a tent out of blankets and chairs.

She loves to play in it, but it is a bit on the small side. You can really only fit one child in there comfortably. Two is alright if they're not to big, but then there isn't any room to take any toys inside.

I have had some problems with the frame, occasionally if one of my kids leans on the side and knocks it over the frame will become deformed and then when you put it back up one side won't stand up straight and lean a bit. This is usually remedied by folding it up and bending it around a bit, but it is annoying.

  • Great play tent!!

I got this for my daughter after a relative bought her a castle tent that took up her WHOLE room and was made of PVP piping poles that locked together. Major pain to set up and take down. I liked this becuase it smaller, yet big enough for her and my 4 yr old son to play in. My 3 year old daughter seems very happy with its size. It folds up flat making storage super easy it can be slid under a bed or in a closet. I don't re-fold it down to its small round size because I found it unneccesary. This is a great toy for the money and very durable. It also comes with a connector tunnel that can be used with any other Play Hut tent.

  • Good toy
    By A2DTY221QHNQ70 on 2004-09-06
My nieces have tons of toys. Yet this tent is one of their favorites. They play "camping" almost every day with it. In fact, we had to take them camping this summer, because after playing so much with this tent, they wanted the real thing.

Con: One can't lean up against the sides. It's easy to roll over in it (the 18 mo. old gets in it and rolls around the living room -- on purpose). However, no matter how much rolling, it always springs back to its original shape when an adult intervenes.

Con: An adult doesn't fit in it :(

Pro: It easily folds flat for easy storage. The girls can assemble it quickly and lug it around the house to set up camp wherever they want.

  • Small and Not Like the Picture
    By A2ZJF9TH735Y69 on 2007-04-25
This was easy to set up, but it could use additional support at the bottom sides to keep up from collapsing. The footprint is very small and works well for one small child. Doesn't look like the picture you see online. Seems to be very durable and it is cute.

  • surprisingly small and poor fabric
    By on 2004-03-06
This product is so small and the fabric is very odd - a complete disappointment.

  • Definately for an older child
    By A3VEDX04BZCPD2 on 2004-10-28
We bought this tent for our two year old daughter after observing her play in a similar tent at a friends house. Unfortunately, this tent isn't really for a 2 year old. She is still a little busy with all the in and out and in and out... she doesn't seem to enjoy it much yet. However, at 4 we will re-introduce it to her and perhaps she will enjoy it but as of now it justs collects dust.

  • Disney Princess Castle is too flimsy
    By AWKGWPN3FCUZ on 2007-05-29
My kids have fun climbing in and out of this although there really is only room for one child at a time. I had it for one week and it's already fallen apart. The fabric is flimsy and the rod to give it somewhat of a frame has gone through the fabric therefore it collapses. Time for the trash on this one. It looked better in the ad.

  • Don't buy this play tent!
    By A2OR12946V42XQ on 2007-07-30
I thought I was purchasing a play tent for our two daughters that was a bit durable and would withstand some light day to day play and activity. I was wrong. This tent barely stands up on it's own. oh, and it doesn't even look like this photo that is listed on the website. The one we were sent is pink and it doesn't "pop up" like this photo makes it appear! We were very disappointed because when my daughters crawl inside of this tent, most of the time, it falls down on them!!!!

  • pleased

My daughter and her three cousins played in and jumped on this castle, I found it to be rather durable

  • Great Toy!
    By A3413ZHP2W708D on 2005-07-19
These Playhut style tents are the best. This tent can be dragged around the house and retain it's shape, very durable and pretty. The top is open so the kids can stand up in it. Folds up flat for storage. Easy to pop up and fold down.

  • A couple of surprises, but Ok
    By A2ABXONP0WHJKQ on 2007-03-26
I got this yesterday for my daughters (3 & 6 years old), and they like it very much...let's see how long that lasts.
The space is kind of cramped, but both of them fit in there with a few dolls, so I wouldn't complain about that. Setting it up was pretty easy, and although it has almost no stability (it gets toppled every couple of minutes or so), that doesn't seem to take away the fun from it.
However, there were a couple of surprises for me:

    a) The product I got is very different from the picture in the advertisement. It is still shaped like a castle and has the Disney Princesses and all, but it is just different. I am not complaining, my girls like it a lot.
    b) As I said before, setting it up was fairly easy (just keep your face away as you take it out of the box, for it will spring out on you VERY FAST), but, trying to disassemble it and putting it away is a completely different story. For that, you have to remove 4 rods (which were not so easy to insert in the first place), and then, you have to fold the thing away twisting it in a way that only experienced snake handlers would be expected of being able to do so (I don't care how easy it should be according to the instructions). I tried it for about 20 minutes until I gave up. And, if you don't keep the box this thing came in, just forget about storing it folded, it would be like trying to keep a "Jack in the Box" compressed without the "Box". Think about it.

So, if you don't mind adding this to the permanent decor of your house, go for it, your girls will probably like it.
