  • Interactive first book,

    By ALLHJD3KZF9KC on 2005-06-25
that actually keeps my son's attention for several minutes. I bought this for my son recently due to all the great reviews and the fact that during a recent Wal-mart trip I noticed that they had it for a couple of dollars cheaper than BRU. I am so pleased with it that I am going to include it in a shower gift for someone who already has plenty of newborn items. My 7 month old son always wants to touch and mouth any book I read to him and with this book he can not only manipulate it but he is rewarded for his efforts through the melody playing or the rhyme starting.

I began singing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star to him from early on so he really calms down for this song and does so when the book plays it as well. It does have a volume control button and it does shut off when the book is closed.

It would make a nice gift for younger babies as well even though the age range begins at 6 months. It is never too early to start reading to your baby and they will also enjoy the light up smiley face on the spine as well.

  • Great fun!

    By A3UISFQMOSZJMO on 2004-08-04
While at BRU exchanging a broken glider someone had left this book on the seat of the glider I was in so I got to play with it a while. I thought it was fun and thought I should bring my daughter in to play with it too. Well we got it for her this weekend and its a hit!
There are 6 nursery rhymes that are sung, spoken or just the music is played while the baby is playing with the book. On each page there is a different shaped "toy" that reacts different to how it is touched. When baby touches it the book makes a sound effect or sings differently. The spin of the book is a big smily face with lights that blink.
The book is sturdy without being so heavy a baby cant hold it and pick it up.

Our daughter was taken with this right away and now just days after having it gets very excited when she see's it. A great inexpensive toy that will last through when your child is reading.

  • what a cute book

    By A16P6SVABHU8N on 2004-12-23
I ordered this for my 9 month old grandson for Christmas--it arrived yesterday. What a cute book this is. It talks, sings, has pages to turn, a sweet little voice giggles when the pages are turned and the book will read 5 different nursery rhymes out loud. Its also hard plastic so can't be torn. This is a book and toy in one and I know Levi will find it very entertaining. I think anyone purchasing this item will be pleased that they did so.

  • Hard to turn, Wrong Lyrics

    By A2WF5J4XI1ZFXM on 2006-07-08
I gave this toy 3 stars because it caught my baby's attention. The hinges are stiff, so it's even hard for us to turn the plastic pages. The lyrics to the songs are off, and trust me, my daughter noticed. Twinkle Twinkle little star is a disappointment. The Old MacDonald says, "with a moo moo here. Moo moo here." and then says "where's the cow? (or pig, nothing else) and the barn door is already open to that image, when it should have it closed for the baby to turn it and discover the animal it's asking for.

We are keeping it just for the lights and sounds, but it's not a toy I would recommend to any child who knows songs well. It's confusing for them. We're really big on educating our daughter in whatever situation during playtime and this toy didn't help at all.

  • Durable, entertaining... but annoying for adults!

    By A2V6B5X31LLPSY on 2005-12-31
My 16-month-old received this for Christmas, and he's fascinated with it. He's also unfortunately fascinated with throwing things at the moment (sigh), but this toy seems a match for the stress so far. It's very substantial and solidly made. The tabbed pages are simple to turn, and the interior activities are easy for little hands to manipulate.

But, yikes! When he puts the book down, it literally nags him to come back with repeated pleas of "It's storytime!" Which doesn't seem to bother him, but it irritates the heck out of the adults. It really, REALLY needs an "off" switch - also because, like someone else mentioned, it has a button on the front, so you can't pack it in a bag without setting it off.

If possible, you might want to listen to the toy for five minutes before purchasing. While I don't have much of a problem with the voice myself, it drives my husband up the wall.

  • Great Toy
    By AEK5GOE7UFP2P on 2006-06-02
This toy is a really good toy. When I pulled it off the shelf in the store my son went crazy (6mths then) and would not let me take it from him after that. Now at 9 months he still likes the toy but the toy was only his favorite toy in the store the day I bought it.

    The Good about this toy
    1. Lots of interaction play
    2. Very Very durable
    3. The sounds are nice and easy to understand
    4. Doesn't sing the whole song, gives verses for you to sing to the melody (babies love parents voices)

    The Bad
    1. There is no off button (which runs down the batteries faster and heaven forbid you bump into it in the middle of the night and you have a light sleeper)
    2. It can be alittle hard for little hands to grasp and hold onto

  • Great Song Book
    By A31G1VG8N2T76P on 2006-11-06
My 2 year old received this for Christmas last year (one year ago) and he still loves it. He is Autistic and it keeps him focused and he interacts with it very appropriatly. He mimicks the songs and brings it to me to play. He smiles when I sing along with the book. It brings out the best in him.

  • Love love love this book!
    By A3SKS90VP7WDZA on 2006-11-16
My son is 16 months old and still loves this book. He recieved it a year ago last christmas and it is one of his favorites. I think because I sang along with it and made it fun and interactive. I will have to buy another one since this one is going out on me. I do have to agree that the lyrics are a little off, but my son doesn't seem to notice.

  • 9 month old loves it!
    By A2NN34MJSM9IRT on 2005-09-06
A friend sent this book to us after our son was born and I just got it out for him to play with a couple of weeks ago. Our little guy was slow to crawl but getting to this book is modivation for him to move - he will cross the room for it. He likes the lights and the music, which he controls by moving the little shapes inside the book. When the book opens it says, "Listen! It's storytime." Overall a very cute book. I had no idea he would like it so much and I wish I'd gotten it out for him to play with sooner. Highly recommended!

  • Keeps their attention!
    By AC08329BHUVNH on 2005-09-20
I bought this for my daughter when she was 9mths old. She is now 13mths and still loves it!! It's so cute to see her sitting in the floor playing with this! It's not one of those loud obnoxious toys either. I would definately recommend this toy!

  • Vtech Nursery Rhyme Book
    By A1CVTGRR3XJV7G on 2005-11-13
My 18 month old daughter was just given this book about a week ago as a gift from her Grumpy and she absolutely loves it. This book is perfect for a child who loves books and music and is especially good for busy moms because it ''reads'' the book for you. The only downside I've noticed so far is it doesn't read the entire nursery rhyme, for example, it sings ''Rockabye baby in the treetop, when the wind blows the cradle will rock'', then it proceeds to play the rest of the song without words. I guess this can also be seen as a good thing but it allows the parent to chime in so the book isn't the only one entertaining the child. That is the reason behind 4 stars as opposed to five.Other than that, Allie is absolutely inlove with it. She loves singing along and naming all the things in the book. Though she has a very vast library, this by far is in the top five of her favorites. Also, I work for a family with a 12 year old autistic son and when Allie brought this book to their house, Ryan literally played with it for an hour. By the end of the night, he was asking for one of his own. The combination of words, music, and interactive parts makes this a must have for the hard to entertain child.

  • GREAT, but needs an OFF switich!
    By A1DWCCP73FJRFT on 2005-11-17
Great! Bought for my son when he was about 8 months and now he's a year and still enjoys it! It is a great toy for the playpen or crib so you don't have to entertain them every 5 minutes if you have things to do around the house! Great price too! I paid 12-14 dollars for it. Just needs an off switch because sometimes you don't want it going in the diaper bag for instance.

  • Great fun for baby
    By A55XZNWIYUWES on 2006-02-27
We got this book for our 2 month old daughter for christmas, she liked it right away. She loved the light and the music from the beginning but now that she is 4 months she likes to look at the pictures and turn the pages. Of course, everything goes in the mouth and we are okay with that since it's so big and we know it's safe. We've used it so much we've had to change the batteries 3x. Love this toy!!

  • Love these books!
    By A29VVGQCOFR4UN on 2006-05-12
I would have given it 5 stars since me and my son can't get enough of these books but for two things, doesn't sing the whole song and they break pretty easy. Granted my son is a hammer nut and is constantly testing his strength on everything like any little boy, but having book after book break on you can be a bit frustrating and expensive.

  • Over Quick
    By AOY0RZBXXNA1E on 2006-08-14
My son loved this, for about a week. There is just not enough things to do on each page. Boring!

  • What would we do without this...
    By A3QDHT37PRERJT on 2004-09-26
We drove to Florida when our son was four months old and this book was a lifesaver. He loves it! He loves the lights...the songs...the colorful pages...It worked like a charm whenever Jake would start to get fussy in the car...we would open the book and a smile would come on his face. Granted after hours of hearing the nursery rhymes we were sick of it..but he wasn't. We make sure whenever we travel this book is with us. He still loves it and therefore so do we. Highly recommended!!

  • The only book my 3 month old will listen to!
    By A2JAW9P6C0C9DB on 2004-11-05
I think it is very important to read to babies as early as possible. But my little boy would just starting getting fussy when we pulled out a book and started reading - it just wasn't interesting enough to keep his attention. The flashing light happy face and singing from this book did keep his attention. He loves to watch this book. Now we can even slip some regular board books in between the nursery rhymes in this book. Whenever he starts to get fussy, we just pull this book out, and he's happy!

  • HE GOES NUTS!!!!
    By A1YLVVA7LDZ05U on 2004-12-10
**UPDATE** My son is now 10 MONTHS old and he STILL loves this!! Now he can hold it himself and turn the pages by himself. Did i mention this was also a lifesaver when nightime driving and your baby is freaking?? The glowing smiley face in the spine just puts him in some sort of trance or something..........

    *************
I took my baby to TRU when he was 10 wks old (he's now almost 18 wks) and when i found this, I took it down from the shelf and showed it to him. Well i have never seen him respond to any toy quite like this. I opened the book, his face went "oh!" and he started kicking his legs like mad. Sometimes you think, esp as a new parent, well, maybe he ate something funny or he's just in a good mood. NO! He trully loves this. THe other day he freaked out in the car and i opened this book in front of him and miracle of miracles he forgot what he was crying about.

It's really a cute book and the voice is very nice and friendly, not electronic. There are little discs with images that wiggle and make noise on them that are pretty sensitive to a baby's touch so it's easy to play with. I don't find it to be too overstimulating or boring for my baby. It's "just enough". It's also easy to clean if he dribbles on it .

Definitley a good buy worth the money!!!!!

  • The Cutest Ever!
    By A110P3WUQIPPY7 on 2005-02-14
My daughter recieved this for her first birthday and she LOVES it!! She has completely dismissed Pat The Bunny in favor of this book. Now I have to read this to her a million times a day instead. Great toy we really recommend it.

  • Cute and durable
    By A3RS1EM5VR45A3 on 2005-02-22
My son got this as a gift for his 1st birthday and he loves the way the book lights up and reads to him. The interaction is great because he can play with the peices in the story. I love that the plastic is so durable. He has other baby books that just don't pass the test.

My only gripe is that there is no "off" switch and that can be annoying. It automatically shuts off after a while but if the button on the front cover gets pressed or the book wasn't closed, you can accidently start it up. Happens all the time in the baby bag.

  • GREAT Toy
    By AJUIZV16ID222 on 2005-05-23
My son, Charlie, 17 months, loved this toy from the second we opened it 3 months ago. The tunes are playful and easy to "dance" to with the classic songs of Old Macdonald, Rock-a-bye Baby, Hey Diddle Diddle etc. Highly recommend it!

  • She loves it!
    By A34U5OB5C79J3V on 2005-10-03
My daughter got this for her first birthday and hasn't put it down since. It's a very cute book and has even helped her learn what a cow is! I highly recommend it!

  • Cute book but not many pages
    By A3EF8R7LHJZC5S on 2005-11-04
This is a cute book with fun rhymes, but it only has a handful of pages. This is not his first choice. My son sometimes gets bored of the book or sometimes he is scared of it. I guess it depends on which way the wind is blowing that day. He loves books, but doesn't favor this one. His favorite book is Sam loves kisses.

  • Great Buy!!
    By A2LHMNPFW1YEZH on 2005-12-09
I bought this book for my 9 month old girl for a plane trip. She loved it on the plane and during the trip. We forgot it at gramma's house and did not get it back for about 6 months. I thought she would have no interest in it but to my surprise she began to play with it again. She is now 2 years old and still loves to sing the nursery rhymes. Its been through a lot and has only needed 1 battery change. This is a great toy!

  • OK book
    By ATFUVH4JDMBPS on 2005-12-29
This book does not have an off switch that I can find! Other than that, it's a great book!

  • Great book
    By A3BIR3T525KYJL on 2006-11-20
I have replaced the batteries in this book because my daughter played with it so often.

  • CAUTION!
    By A1F1T7XE2VEMPU on 2006-12-11
My girls ages 2 years and the other aged 7 months enjoyed playing with this toy very much, however the mechanism in the binding of the book is unsafe. It's on some sort of "spring" type of action and while my 7 month old was playing with the book it shut on her little fingers causing pain and crying. They need to change the recommended age for this book.

  • Love it!
    By A2T8NOEE37ND3W on 2006-12-13
We received this as a baby shower gift, and my daughter loves it! I sing along with it, and it really calms her down and keeps her attention. Whenever we go out, we always make sure to bring it in the diaper bag so that we can whip it out whenever she gets fussy.

  • A fun book for a musical child
    By A2SU00W9JYMCWW on 2005-05-09
My 9-month-old daughter was entranced with this book when we showed it to her in the store, and so we had to buy it. It has kept her entertained in the car on many road trips and even at home. It was her favorite toy for a long time. She would rock and bob her head to the nursury rhyme songs. She loved pushing the buttons to make things go. She learned "star" from this book, and to "moo" like the cow. She points at the pictures of dogs and cats. She is now 15 months old and though it is no longer the favorite toy, she still enjoys playing with it.

The book is educational in that it rewards pushing buttons, sliding switches, and turning pages with noises and songs. If your child likes musical toys, she or he would like this toy. As a parent, I did not find this to be very annoying. The music was catchy and the little voice of the person singing was cute. The book asks questions ("where is the cow?") to prompt baby to point or push buttons or say the answer. It takes AA batteries, and ours have lasted a long time (only being replaced once in 6 months), despite a lot of play time.

    Your baby will love it!

  • Baby Loves It!
    By A1Z523YSQLZTT6 on 2005-05-10
I picked this book up in a desperate attempt to entertain my 10 month old baby on long road trips. He is a big paper eater, so even board books can't withstand his gnawing. This book definately did the trick. He can bite on it all he wants and it looks as good as new. After five months, my 15 mo old still loves this book and it's a big hit at playgroup.
