LeapFrog Leapster Carrying Casex$22.89

(120 reviews)

Best Price: $22.89

Protect and store your Leapster Multimedia Learning System. This convenient carrying case holds the Leapster handheld and up to 6 cartridges (each sold separately).

This durable case is designed for toting the popular Leapster around on car trips, plane rides, or anywhere kids might travel. It holds up to six Leapster cartridges in a rear pouch and has room for the Leapster itself in the main zippered compartment, which sports a soft fleece lining. The case is relatively lightweight and doesn't feature the hard shell that some might like for protecting the Leapster but the soft plastic covering should provide protection for most accidental knocking around. --Charlie Williams MPN: 020203 - UPC: 708431202030

  • Review of the case.

    By AGFW667QNHDOY on 2004-02-28
I noticed that most reviewers here were writting only about the leapster and not about the case. I waited to buy the case until I could get my hands on it and really check it out to determine whether I thought it was worth the [$$$]. I was very dissappointed in the quality of the case and chose not to buy it. The case is soft and easily bendable or collapsable, not hard, and has a minimal lining. I wouldn't even call it cushioned. The lining is a synthetic material similar to fleece-like what some of my winter coat pockets are lined with. The area which "holds" extra cartridges is simply a mesh pocket with an elastic band "closure". I did like how the case zipped shut. For [$$$] I was expecting a much firmer case, with some dense foam padding to protect the leapster in case of impact. I also thought that the sleeve in which to store back up cartridges was flimsy and not secure-it also should have had a zippered closure and some padding or at least dividers to protect the cartridges. All this being said, the case will probably still appeal to a great number of Leapster owners and will be adequate. I was just hoping for a much better quality case, and thought that for $20 it should have been made better. I will say that I have 2 leapsters that have been heavily used by my 3 & 4 yr old boys for about two months. (My rating stars are for the Leapster itself) I do think they are an amazing teaching toy that is of very high quality. They have worked without any problems. We did call Leap Frog to inquire about using rechargeable batteries and were advised not to. I read in a review that a woman did use them and had no issues. We also have been using rechargeable batteries without issues. I really wish that this case was better made as I think it would make a very handy accessory to keep and tote a valuable Leapster and it's cartridges. We will continue to use a basic plastic storage box we bought for just a few dollars.

  • Accident waiting to happen

    By A1HVOFH5EODQRG on 2005-09-07
The problem with this case is that if you zip up your Leapster even once in the case while a game is in your Leapster it will most likely break the zipper on the case, and make the case entirely worthless. This is precisely what happened to our case.

While older children may be thoughtful enough to avoid doing this, by five year old son is not, and I doubt most other young children are -- no matter how much they are threatened by their parents.

So, our case lasted us about two weeks. So I bought a Fisher-Price Pixter case on sale for $10, and it works much, much better. It carries all the games, and carries the Leapster with a game inserted -- and I think it protects the Leapster better as well.

  • a must have for Leapster users!

    By ARYB7XW8CX8P0 on 2003-12-27
This attractive, hard case is very nice to have for
your Leapster to keep it free from any scratches and
for convenient transporting. It has a nice little
pocket in the back to hold several cartridges.

The Leapster is WELL worth the eighty bucks it costs
but if your going to spend that kind of cash than
you should have this nice little case to keep it safe
    and free from scratches!

  • The Backpack is much better

    By on 2004-08-23
Overall, I think LeapFrog is the best source for kids' game-type learning. The kids think they are playing, but we all know they are learning along the way. We were looking for a safe way to carry around my daughter's Leapster when we found the GameBoy backpack, and the backpack is a much better find than the Leapster case. Believe me -- this is the ONLY time I am not recommending a LeapFrog product, but rather am in favor of something else. The backpack fits tightly at first, but stretches just enough that my daughter can now easily zip and unzip the game area herself. There is quite a bit of storage for games (she has 5 now and there is still room for more...) Before you buy the Leapster case, try out the GameBoy backpack.

  • NOT WORTH IT !!!

    By A2X3L31KCXBHCL on 2004-12-21
Most reviewers here were writing only about the leapster and not about the case. My friend has a case. Fortunately I examined hers before buying one. I am glad I did not buy it. The case is soft and readily collapes. It is very poor quality. I wish I could give it 0 stars. The pocket which holds extra cartridges is simply a mesh pocket with an elastic band closure and it is easy for the cartridges to escape.
Instead I purchased a small sturdy cosmetic case for eight bucks which works well. My friend ended up throwing hers away and buying a similiar case. Do not buy this, it is not worth the money.

  • Look Closely Before You Buy!
    By A1TFO2B7M40TJP on 2005-11-30
This case was "recommended" from Amazon because I purchased the L-Max. However, this case will not work with the L-max. It was designed for the original Leapster, which has slanted sides. The L-Max is more rectangle shaped. I have yet to see a case that is designed for the new L-Max. I did purchase the Leap Frog Mini Backpack (pink/lavender) storage system but will be sending it back. It is made from thin, parachute-like material and has one small zipper compartment outside and 2 open pockets on the inside. This will not keep cartridges organized any more than a plastic bag would and will not protect the the L-Max (or original Leapster for that matter) from drops/falls. I think the Leap Frog design team could come up with something better to protect and organize an expensive game system. I do like Leap Frog products.....just not the storage systems they have designed. It would be nice to have something that could store ALL the components (AC adapter, recharger, headphones) with a separate detachable case for the player with organized pockets for the cartridges.

  • Leapster LMAX DOES NOT FIT

The Leapster LMax does not fit in this case. Manufacturer should tell you this. I have not been able to find a case for the LMAX

  • parent of pdd child, thankyou leapster!
    By on 2004-01-16
i have a daughter who is labeled pdd. she is slightly autistic and even though she is 5 years old, she acts younger. this toy has been a fantastic find. she can't put it down. it is helping her learn because she doesn't think it's work, it's too enjoyable to be work. she has dropped it 3 times already and it still keeps going. take it in the car, take it to the mall, the grocery store, and a restaurant(with sound turned down) her older brother and cousins(oldest is 13) all fight over it.please, please come out with more games. dora and spongebob are perfect.she's learning to spell, thankyou leapster for everthing.

  • Satisfied customer
    By AVSTHM7V3L0G0 on 2005-11-30
I can't believe that we have the same leapster case that other customers have. From reading the reviews I have to wonder if maybe the leapster case was upgraded. I bought the leapster case about two weeks ago and almost did not buy it due to some of the reviews. The first point I want to address is that if you notice the shape of the case you can easily see that it was made to accomodate the leapster with a game inserted. I can honestly say that it will not break the ziper! My daughter's leapster is always stored in the case with a game cartridge on and the fit is perfect. No strugle to zip. Maybe the customer who had the problem with the ziper just had a defective product. The second thing I want to mention is that I dont see how the case is collapsible. Its a hard case, yes if you bend it it will bend, but its not flimsy. Also the pocket to hold the cartridges is not made of a mesh with an elastic band, the velcro keeps the games inside with no problem. I am glad I bought it. Its nice and its made for the leapster. The handle is great for little hands unlike the pixter case that does not have a handle to carry it. My advice is go to a store and examine the case yourself. It may not meet everyone's expectations but it certainly met mine.

  • Leapster Case
    By A173ZMP1LGZXY7 on 2004-12-13
I'm not thrilled with this case. I can't believe they charge so much for it. Luckily, I got it when I purchased the whole Leapster combo pack and it came with the case. The case is a must and I don't have a big problem with the quality. My main complaint is that you cannot fit the headphones in the case with the Leapster. It would have been so nice to be able to fit those inside instead of having to carry around the headphones and cord seperately. I also agree that the pocket for the games should have a zipper instead of the velcro. I haven't had a problem with games falling out but it worries me that my son will carry it upside or something and the games will fall out. I wish thy would either make a deluxe case or modify this one.

  • Better for the new Leapster design
    By A2L196N034DCE on 2007-07-06
Just got this Leapster Carrying Case for my son despite some of the "not up to par" reviews it has been given here. I purchased it from a store where I could get my hands on it to see for myself.

    1. One of the biggest complaints I've read state that the old (triangle) design Leapster does not fit well into the case - that it's too tight and the zipper breaks trying to zip it up. My response to this is that even though this case WAS originaly designed for the old design Leapster, it fits the new (rectangle) design Leapster and Leapster L-Max much, much better. It's roomy and zips-up easily with a cartridge left in my son's Leapster. The zipper seems to be very strong and sturdy.

    2. Several reviewers have mentioned that they were hoping the case was a hard-shell plastic rather than just soft padding. I believe that the case is actually thick enough to prevent scratches and damage from minor falls. Just yesterday the case, with the Leapster in it, was accidentaly kicked off of our coffee table onto our concrete floor. The case protected the Leapster perfectly.
I have taught my son that our possessions, like his toys, are to be taken care of and played with in the manner they are meant to be played with. He is to clean up and put away his toys properly when he is finished playing with them. Accidents happen, but this one lesson has kept all of his toys in like-new condition, and that is a lot for a 3.5 year old active boy!

    3. Many reviewers mentioned that the mesh cartridge pocket doesn't hold the cartidges well. Again, I disagree. The pocket is meant to hold no more than 6 cartidges, flatly. The velcro closures close well with the pocket flap closing close to the pocket to where the cartridges do not fall out. With the rectangular Leapster, you can also fit a few cartridges loosely in the interior of the case. My son also realized that he could fit his full Leapster Cartridge Wallet into the mesh pocket of the case, allbeit the pocket flap does not close as well with the Wallet in it, it will not fall out!

Really, folks, this is a great case for the rectangular Leapster and Leapster L-Max. Much better than the flimsy and useless Leapster Carry-All Backpack.

  • Better than nothing!
    By A3L2AQGJLCSLFB on 2005-01-04
I must admit this case is not as protective or durable as I would have liked. I think the outer shell really needs to be harder. I think it's necessary because it does hold the games and I personally don't like my kids leaving an $80 toy lying around unprotected. Our Lepasters go in the case when not being played with. If you plan on using the Leapster outside the home at all it's definitely a must! I think it's a bit overpriced by about 7-10 dollars, but a necessary buy.

  • Absolute MUST!!
    By A1EOIFZ6RF03D0 on 2005-01-20
I was fortunate to receive the case as a bonus with our leapster. I would have been sceptical too if I had to pay that much. But I'm sure glad my 4 yr old has it. The case is the leapster "home" when not in use. It has been dropped down a flight of concrete stairs with no damage to the unit and the 5 catridges in the pouch stayed in placed. It is serving it's purpose and gets an A+ in my book.

  • Great Buy
    By A2SKDO4LZYZBKX on 2007-05-13
This is a great product for toting the Leapster. The hard exterior protects the game while keeping the cartridges organized. It makes it easy for my son to carry his game to the car, to Granny's house, etc. Very worthwhile purchase.

  • Protection for the game

This case came in handy for my daughter's new leapster and her cartridge(s).

  • Finally an education toy that's fun!!!!
    By AGXEQ759LGX7K on 2004-01-28
My 5 year old got this for Christmas and plays with it at least 10 times a day (which is rare for him). My almost 3 year old now wants one for his birthday, which he will get because of all the fighting they do over it! The color and graphics are awesome and the games are not too complicated for either of my kids. I was alittle worried the pen would dent the screen when my rough boys used it, but it is a solid toy! And the best thing is even I get the games unlike all the video games that are out there, so if they need help or want me to play with them it's fun for all of us! Thank you Leapster and keep coming out with more innovative games!!!!!

  • Serves it's purpose!
    By A24MWLY6FKUVV0 on 2004-03-01
We have a 4 year old son that owns the Leapster and loves it. We thought the case would be hard and were a little disappointed to find that it is soft and flexible. However, it works to keep the Leapster covered and scratches to a minimum. It also has a pocket to keep some games in, which was extremely helpful. It has a handle which makes it easier to carry. The main change we would make is to make it a hard case. Otherwise, it is worth the money to keep the Leapster safe and carry games.

  • PREFER the GBA backpack
    By on 2004-07-09
I looked at this in the store. I was afraid my daughter would drop her Leapster on the floor while she was trying to unzip it. Also, it seemed a bit expensive for what it was or wasn't; I went hunting for a backpack instead. I found the GBA BACKPACK for the Gameboy; IT IS GREAT!!! It is a small backpack with three zippered compartments. Although it is made for the Gameboy, the Leapster fits TIGHTLY in the large compartment, which my four-year-old can zip up without problem. The middle compartment is great for cartridges or headphones. The front pocket has a mesh net inside that keeps more games in place. We also bought some inexpensive Koss folding headphones, which fit nicely in this front compartment too. It is great for my daughter who loves to carry around the small backpack. I think the padding keeps the Leapster fairly secure. Check out the GBA BACKPACK instead--great design and color options (except no pink)!

  • Leapster case not that bad, Color Pixter case an alternative
    By A1X89K8N5MW22B on 2004-08-24
I did purchase the Leapster case despite the neutral to negative reviews and it turns out it's not that bad. For the investment I made in this system, I do monitor how my son handles it and I feel the case would do a pretty good job. I do wish there was an accessory pocket for a set of headphones and the pocket for the games was inside the case, though the external pocket seems to be pretty secure. I tried the Leapster unit in the Color Pixter case, it fit pretty well and it does have a mesh pocket INSIDE of the case for 12 Pixter cartridges which are bigger than the Leapster's. The downfall for the Color Pixter case is the hook instead of a handle and the size of the case. It is rather bulky, but it does have three color choices and it would have more room around the unit to absorb the shock if dropped. The Leapster case is basically an exact fit for the unit and the carry handle is convenient.

  • Not for Leapster L-Max
    By A3427QHAOZDA5E on 2005-12-26
I was shopping for my two grandchildren and purchased the L-Max. Was considering buying this case until I learned from the reviews that it would not fit. Kept searching and found the Leapsster L-Max backpack. It is about $19.99, is a small backpack, but large enough for the L-Max, games, etc. It keeps the game and accessories together, it is not too big and bulkey to carry around. It works great for us.

  • Mom / Teacher Gives 5 Stars!!!
    By AZAK4O7SJMKOG on 2004-02-15
I am a mom, but I am also a teacher. I have two daughters (7 and 3 1/2). I have been a big fan of all the Leap products, so when this came out - I thought, "WOW - what a great alternative to a gameboy, which has no real educational value." Granted, there aren't as many titles / game choices yet, but I trusted Leap, so I bought this as a Christmas present for my first grade daughter. Let me just tell you, I should have bought 2 because my 3 1/2 yr. old is constantly sneaking in her older sister's bedroom to play with it. This is SERIOUSLY the best "toy" I've ever bought and if you break down the cost to its educational value and the time spent playing with it - it would have payed itself off in a matter of days. I own the Leap title that came with the Leapster, Leapster Gr.1, and Spongebob Saves the Day. They are ALLLLLL fun and educational! Leap - you've done it again!!! If I could give this product 10 stars, I would!

  • Leapster Case
    By A16NIDA8MHZ4E8 on 2004-09-21
I was very pleased with this product. It is compact and light enough for my four year old son to carry around and has a great storage pocket for all his cartridges. The handle is also very sturdy and doesn't seem like it will rip off over time (very important to the mother of a 4 year old active boy!) It also protects the leapster very well from tumbles and bumps! Overall a very good case!

  • Leapster Case Is Perfect
    By AEP5Q48CEXXJK on 2005-09-12
My 4 year old nephew LOVES his Leapster, and now he finally has a case he can keep his Leapster in, as well as his cartridges, which are so small, they are often all over the house. Good for little hands, with a zipper he can do all by himself (a big deal) and an easy-open pocket for the cartridges. Big brother just got the new Leapster L-Max (also, a GREAT item), and the new machine will also fit in this case. Guess there will be a new case for the L-Max, but in the meantime, this fits the bill. Great design for a superior product.

  • I thought this was great!!!
    By on 2004-05-04
My son got his Leapster for Christmas and brings it everywhere. Until now we were keeping his cartridges in a sandwich bag. This case is great - it protects the unit itself and has a pocket to keep the games. I think that it does a great job of keeping everything all together especially when the Leapster is on the go with us! I know some are disappointed that the case isn't hard plastic, but I think that for the price it's great (and some protection is better than no protection and at least the games aren't just lying around everywhere). Definately a must have if your child has the Leapster!!!!

  • not what it appears
    By A1E0JXTCM6BT6M on 2004-06-29
I too was dissapointed about this case although we love the leapster. I purchased the case for a road trip and thought it was a hard plastic. I bought it online with a very poor discription from leapster's website. The extra cartridge storage isn't as secure as I feel it needs to be.

  • Not a good idea...
    By A1VKWMUPAM8OVM on 2004-10-21
If kids don't open it just right, the Leapster falls out. Kinda defeats the purpose, if you ask me. I agree 100% with the comments about the Gameboy backpack. It's a snug fit, but it's great, because that means the Leapster doesn't come out until you take it out. The Gameboy backpack also has more room for games. The backpack idea is more popular with kids, too. All in all, skip this and go straight for the backpack.

  • Not the greatest, but will do....
    By A3B25H8UUCVUZQ on 2005-04-01
I actually found this item on sale at walmart for $5.00, and so I purchased it. It works OK. True, there is not much "padding" and I am a bit scared to put cartridges in the back in fear that they might fall out, but I haven't had any problems with it so far. I WOULD NOT, however, speend $17 on this item. I wish that I could sell this item on amazon! I'd buy a bunch and sell em on here for $10.

  • YES! L-MAX FITS PERFECTLY!!!
    By A3LJ51X25ELKF9 on 2005-12-27
Those other reviewers did not try to put the L-max in this case, because it fits perfectly--even with a cartridge inserted. I called the company to be sure before I bought it. They said it would fit, and it sure does! It's a great case! Love it!

  • Leeping It Safe
    By AAG7HNVDQI2SL on 2006-03-22
The leaspeter case is great, it fits the Leapter and the L-MAX pretty well.... and I love that it has a place to put extra games...plus it is the perfect size and weight for my 4 year old... she loves her new game and set up...

    Thanks....

  • Review about the Leapster CASE
    By A2AR2AU7RZD7G3 on 2006-07-13
We have the Leapster System and several cartridges. Contrary to the review that another person has left, we have found this case to be VERY good.

YES, IT *IS* STURDY! It has survived quite a bit of dropping and abuse, AND it has a special pocket for holding all of our many cartidges!

The only down-side is that there is no special place for extra batteries NOR anywhere to store/attach headphones. But these are comparitively minor issues, and the case
