  • More of the same

Our daughter recieved a Leapster for Christmas and has spent hours daily playing with it since. So of course we ran out and bought new games asap! Unfortunately, I don't think Dora was worth the 25 bucks. She likes to play it, and if your son or daughter loves Dora they will enjoy it too...however, I don't feel that there is that much difference between Dora and the original games it came with. There is a version of leapfrog (crossing the lake), and matching pairs (two versions on Dora), and none of the spelling or math options that are on the original game pack. I found the educational value of the game it came with to be much better. And shame on them for missing a good chance to introduce Spanish! Unless your child love Dora or is under the age of 5, this game is a little too elementary.

Being a huge fan of leapster, I wasn't as impressed with this cartridge as some of the others. My son loves Dora, so I was excited to pick this up but I found that it was too similar in content to the cartridge that comes with the leapster system. It contains much of the same content, just with dora instead of Tad in the background. I was hoping for something more original for the asking price.

This is the best educational/game system out there. My husband and I can't keep our hands off of it! If your child loves Dora this couldn't be more perfect. It has several options to play along with different skill levels. One option follows the same format as the show but you really can "stop" swiper and solve the trolls riddles along with other tasks to help Dora and Boots complete their mission. It's a great size for the car or anywhere. Great graphics, backlit for night-time play, sound adjustment....they've thought of everything.

  • So pleased with this purchase!

I was a little worried that my 3 1/2 year old son would struggle with this software since the Leapster says it's for 4 and up. I was very pleased when he and I began playing the game - HE LOVES IT!!! He has never played video games before, but he did GREAT! And he was learning too! It teaches and reinforces so much! He had to do things like jumping on rocks to "find the number" (where there were two letters and one number", and "find the yellow circle", I was so pleased! When it asked about the opposites, I got a little concerned, but he did great with that also! It also has a nice "hint" button in case he gets stuck! I am so pleased that I decided to purchase this for him! His 2 1/2 year old brother is trying to play it as well! Won't be long!

I can't wait for the Pre-K software to come out!

  • TOTALLY AWESOME!!!

    By ARYB7XW8CX8P0 on 2003-12-27
My barely four year old daughter would play this until
the cow's come home if we let her. Why hasn't someone
come out with this before?? She may have been able to
(some) of the games at 3 years old. Since it has
multiple challenge levels, I'm sure it will be around
    for a long time.

She is challenged as we were as kids with Pac-Man and
Donkey Kong but she is learning the difference between
upper case letters and lower case letters, opposites,
shapes, colors, and so much more!!

I considered getting her a gameboy for Christmas but
was skeptical. We couldn't be happier with the whole
Leapster concept. Makes me happy I waited till 1999
    to start have children! :oP

  • Great Game!!
    By A19JTOAPXNB56B on 2004-12-10
My three year old absolutlely loves this game - and to think that he's actually learning something too!! This game was accidentally thrown out the window of our car on our dirt road in July (I thought it was lost)- I found it while walking our dog in November and it was squished, had been rained on run over etc. and it still worked in our Leapster. So the games are pretty tough too!

  • My 3 Year Old Loves This!!!
    By A13EKWQN2L1P76 on 2004-01-26
I have a 3 year old who is not ready for a Gameboy (NOT that I would rather her be playing with a Gameboy), but I bought her the Leapster, and WOW! She loves it! It's easy to use, and she is even using the Kindergarden software already (she has Dora, Spongebob, Drawing, and Kindergarten). These games are very educational and keep her entertained for quite awhile. What a great alternative to the computer, Playstation, Gamesboys, etc...even my 8 year old loves it. I can't wait for new software to come out! It's well worth every penny!

  • Awesome learning game!!
    By A1FVOTF9JGD0YP on 2005-01-08
This was given to our 3 year old daughter as a Christmas present because she got the Leapster for Christmas and she just loves this game. She got 2 other Leapster cartridges and doesn't play with those as much as this one. I don't care what anyone else says, this one is helping her to identify her letters and numbers - which is more important than just playing games and not learning anything. She has already come to me and spelled DADDY and MOMMY all on her own. Thank you for wonderful products Leap Frog!!!

  • GREAT GAME!
    By A3UBNVGODMK0JH on 2004-07-20
Our daughter, Mary, age 4, received the Leapster system and the Dora game for her birthday in June, and she absolutely LOVES them. They are great learning tools, but they are fun as well. We already had to replace the batteries, so I can't wait for the rechargable battery thing to be available in stores!

I can't believe how much my 3 year old loves this toy. She said this was her favorite Christmas present and did not open about half of her gifts this year. My 6-year-old loves it too and we are going on a plane trip in April and plan on getting another Leapster for him. I just ordered Dora for Bethie(3-year-old) so I'll let ya' know how she does. But I have to say, I ordered this on 12-23 and express shipped it on 12-24, held off b/c of the price, but it is well worth it. Do an a.m. show and will talk it up then too. GREAT INVENTION. We were looking for the "it" toy, I think this is "it"! S

  • 2-1/2 year old son zooms through level 1.
    By A181WEIKKA4L0N on 2004-07-15
The 3 year old listed by LeapFrog is accurate. Our son was zooming through level 1 at 2-1/2 years old. Maybe our son is above average. Haha.

    The Leapster products are AWESOME!

    Thanks, Brett

I bought Dora for my 4 year old son for Christmas. Both he and I found it to be boring after a few games, even with increased levels. Maybe my son is more advanced than the average preschooler. However, he loves the leap cartridge that came with the leapster. It allows him to design pictures and seems a little more challenging.

  • My 4 year old loves Dora
    By on 2004-01-13
My 4 year old son loves this game. He generally does not like anything "educational". He plays this all the time. He likes to rescue the baby animals. This format follows the "Dora" show. We have Kindergarten, Dora, Mr. Pencil and the game that came with Leapster. Dora is the first one he wants to play.

  • Finally! Educational Video Games!
    By AVAKYUC9K5726 on 2003-12-22
My 3 year old daughter is a real video game junkie, but up until now I've found it necessary to limit her playtime, because I felt like she was "vegging out". Now I can let her play video games that feature her favorite characters (Spongebob and Dora), as much as she wants, and know that she is learning at the same time. Finally, for me, some guilt free peace and quiet!

  • We LOVE Leapster!
    By on 2003-12-28
We are so excited about Leapster! A fun and educational toy for our kids, and my husband and I are enjoying it too:) Dora is great... I was a little worried that my 3 year old would have trouble with it, but he does very well! Spongebob is a little advanced for him, and the 4 year old too! Probably should have waited a little for that one!

  • A Perfect Pick
    By on 2004-01-06
Our 3 year old son spent Christmas in the hospital. I knew he wasn't up for opening presents. I grabbed this one figuring he could play it in bed. I wasn't expecting it to be such a hit. A toy that made his stay in the hospital fun !! Even home with all of his presents open it is still number one. Any toy that is that entertaining and educational is priceless. Truly wins in my heart!

  • Favorite toy

This is my son's favorite cartridge on his Leapster and he also has the Draw and Write and Thomas the Train. He LOVES Dora and spends hours playing this one. It's not too girly for a boy to enjoy.

  • Dora is a hit!
    By on 2003-12-26
Our 4-year old grandaugher got a Leapster for Christmas and loves it and, of course, Dora is a major hit. She had no problems mastering the stylus as well as learning how to play the games. Dora is a wonderful educational character!

  • WONDERFUL~!

    IT'S A MUST HAVE

  • Pleasant Game
    By A2KJBS6OPZP8DT on 2007-02-25
All the reviews I read here warned me of the low-quality of this game as far as learning goes, but encouraged me to get it if my child is obsessed with Dora. Since she is, I did get it, and I have been pleasantly surprised.

I was very surprised to discover that the non L-Max Dora game works with the L-Max, not only in handheld mode, but also when connected to the T.V.. A very happy thing indeed.

Not only does the dora game reinforce the basic Spanish language skills taught in the T.V. show, it expands on them a bit, adding nicely to the SSL vocabulary. The basic educational tasks are very young and immature for the average student, and my 6yo played all of the games on it, completing all of the tasks within a week of intermittent play. Now she gets bored with it easily, only playing it from time to time to get her Dora fix.

  • Too Boring
    By A2SGS2GWEY4PXS on 2007-03-29
We got this for my sister along with the leapster. She loves Dora so we just HAD to get this. My sister's 6 and maybe she's growing out of Dora because she tired of this game very quickly and so did I. It was too repetitive and not quite as intersting as the Sonic game we also got. So in comparison, Dora was "borrr-ing" as my sister said when she switched to play another game.
So even if you child loves Dora, don't buy this game unless your child is under the age of 6. I think even the game was made special for kids still learning about up and down and counting and not for kids in school. It really itsn't worth it, and not very exciting. Remember to follow the age suggestions when in doubt, that helps. My sister was past the Dora game educational speaking, even if she still loved the character Dora.

  • Kids as young as 3 love this product
    By A3V486DRSSSKN0 on 2003-12-19
I have a 3 1/2 year old who won a Leapster through a preschool drawing.. In 10 minutes he us up and playing/learning... I had never heard of Leapfrog products until he received this product. I have recommended it to my friends for their children. Unlike Gameboy, the kids learn as they play..

  • My 4 yr old loves it.. and so do I

  • Another fun cartridge!!
    By A35TUDKSX53ET8 on 2003-12-27
My daughter really is loving Dora's game! She is learning so much from these games. Thanks LeapFrog...Education can be fun and you have proven it!!

  • We love it!
    By A1EDJIFWMNCRVE on 2005-03-21
This is one of our cartridges & my 3yo son loves it. There's probably more versatility with the Nemo cartridge and more learning with the Letter and Word factories, but this is a fun one, not to pass up.

  • My daughter loves Dora
    By A1ZBEIL78MLR9Z on 2005-10-27
I bought it only because it's Dora, who is my daughter's favorite cartoon character, I bought her countless Dora books, Dora Doll house, and she loves them all. This one is no exception.

  • not bad, not great
    By A2ECHUZCUNOG6R on 2006-12-26
The graphics on the hand held are better then on the TV. It's still fun to watch it on the TV and the kids like it. I admit, I am probably just spoiled. My only big fault I have with this is that the response time is slow when moving down or to the left in one of the mini games. She has to jump from rock to rock and turtles and logs and stuff. many times it requires you to hit the keypad more then once. since we got two leapster l-maxs and games for Christmas i was afraid it was the l-max that was acting up. I took the cartridge from one l-max to the other and found it to be the same problem. it was definitely the game. other games we got didn't seem to have this same problem, or at least as bad.

  • Great game for a 3 year old.
    By ASY8EDCXAURIK on 2008-08-27
I bought a used Leapster and this is one of the many games that came with it. After playing all the games I think this is the most suitable for my 3 year old, he is able to play many of the mini games that come in the cartrige without my help, he also likes Dora a lot. Great educational game.

  • Has kept my 4 yr occupied for hours
    By on 2003-11-26
I just got the Leapster for my 4 yr old daughter 2 days ago. This program has a lot of educational games. She has been playing in all the time. It has made car rides more enjoyable for both of us. Her sister, 9 & 7, want to play it too. The game has 3 levels to choose from. I recommend it especially if you have a child who loves Dora.
