  • WHAT? I can't hear you! Oh, yeah, I can't hear ANYTHING!

    By A2GPEV42IO41CI on 2004-01-07
The Peltor H10A Hearing Protector ear muffs really do the job! I ordered them to help eliminate the annoying whine of my computer tower. You know the kind of sound...very slight, but so high-pitched it goes straight to your ear drums and drills a hole til you can't STAND it anymore!! Why am I SHOUTING!? Well, you can see how I had to do something to preserve my sanity.

I received the Peltor set and man, oh man, does it eliminate sound!! What pc whine? What pc! This headset completely elimates those little sounds that drive you crazy. I recommend it for those who have noisy neighbors or roommates, barking dogs, drippy faucets, etc. It is amazing. Loud noises can still be heard, so the headset does not interfere with normal life and is not a safety hazard. They are comfortable on the ears, are fairly lightweight, and fit very(!) snugly.

If you can't concentrate due to small, annoying noises, you would probably benefit from using this headset. The price is very reasonable, considering the benefits.

  • Outstanding in noise reduction and more

    By A3L4JR2VB2RNLF on 2004-06-08
Put these on and turn on your shop vac and you will be amazed how much noise reduction these earmuffs provides. In addition, the ear pieces are very soft and extremely comfortable. Wear them to be near any machinery or mowing your lawn and your ears will thank you.

  • Outstanding quality, comfort, and noise reduction...

    Peltor Earmuffs # H10A

I own several brands of earmuff hearing protectors, including a Smith & Wesson brand for shooting. The Peltor's are the best in every category. The soft ear pieces are the most comfortable, they are light, they are high quality, they block almost all sound, and they are adjustable for head size. They were so good, I bought several more. I wear them when breaking a pool rack (e.g., eight ball), because in a wooden room, that's really LOUD. I use them in the yard when running lawn equipment and put them on every time I use a loud shop tool (e.g., a table saw). The real test is that they are effective on the shooting range with high-powered target rifles. Unquestionably a 5-star product!

  • Noise Canceling??

    By A1KVOVI29XN5Z3 on 2007-05-12
You might get the idea from the product name that these are somehow "noise canceling" earmuffs. Well, they certainly aren't any kind of active noise canceling, but for the price you might have guessed that. Anyway, this is a simple product, just a couple of pieces of foam inside a plastic shell. It does attenuate outside noise, but I doubt any noise canceling is possible with foam. Note that wearing the product for more than about 1/2 hour will cause irritation. The material that covers your ears is a vinyl/plastic, without much padding. So basically, the plastic part of the earmuff sits against the skin, making them uncomfortable except for short durations. I've seen another pair that have leather covers, which would probably make them more comfortable.

  • Excellent Hearing Protection

    By A1L1SXDAHJKGT2 on 2004-01-02
These earmuffs are extremely comfortable. They are fully adjustable and I even can wear them over a baseball cap. You won't believe how quiet it is with these on. My air compressor is the loudest in my shop. With these on it is only a whisper.

I order the best because I wanted to want to use them. I am very satisfied.

  • Protect your hearing... Great product!
    By A1CZ7PH2JNRUCL on 2006-04-13
I wish I had been smart enough to wear hearing protection when I was younger but, I was young, indestructable... and stupid! Years ago, I was lucky enough to have had my hearing checked as part of a physical and was made aware of some hearing loss and began wearing 'muffs'. Many people wear the 'plugs' which is fine (just not doctor recommended); I don't like shoving them in and out my ears all day long. These Peltor muffs are inexpensive enough for anyone to purchase and they should, especially if they work in a noisy shop or other enclosed area. Hearing loss is usually cummulative over time from exposure to high dB noise producers (routers, table and miter saws, sanders, nailers, etc). Once any percentage of hearing loss happens, its gone forever. Its very tempting to say to yourself that you are only going to make two or three cuts on the tablesaw, etc and 'to heck' with the ear protection. If I'm in the shop, the muffs go around my neck (muffs to the back) when I walk in... no excuse, they are right there.

The Peltors are comfortable to wear and lightweight enough that I almost forget I have them on. Rated to reduce noise by 30 dB, they make power tool 'whine' very manageable and comfortable. These 'muffs' muffle noise, they don't eliminate it completely which is a good safety factor. Without a lot of background noise, I can hear someone talking to me at a reduced level, then I take them off. I am very satisfied with the performance of these protectors.

  • Peltor H10A earmuff is quiet!
    By A11J7IK6LKTA1B on 2005-09-05
This product significantly reduces the noise reaching my ears.

I wear these earmuffs three to seven hours a day while performing technical work in an industrial area where vacuum cleaners, air hoses, high frequency whines/squeals from electronic equipment, and boom boxes (why these people want to add to the noise level defies comprehension) are common.

It is impossible to carry on a conversation while wearing this product; you cannot hear what anyone is saying unless they shout, and even then, it is difficult to understand them.

I considered noise cancellation headphones, but rejected them because most of the annoying noises in my workspace are percussive, impact-type noises of a non-repeating nature. Noise cancellation headphones work best with steady-state noises.

Although the earmuff is a bit snug (lots of pressure against the side of my head), I am reluctant to spread the earmuffs apart for fear of decreasing the excellent sound deadening ability of the product. In addition, my ears are somewhat large for the available space inside the earmuff. I compensate for these "problems" by making frequent small adjustments in the earmuff's position on my head.

I highly recommend the Peltor H10A earmuff. I own a 17db Peltor product that I use while mowing the lawn, and fully intent to replace them with the 30db version.

  • Comfortable, snug fit, great protection
    By A2B7BUH8834Y6M on 2004-08-23
I use this Peltor hearing protector when I go out on the shooting range. They have different varieties that can be rented, and after trying several brands, I found these to be the best "bang" for the buck. I like to target shoot, but I have absolutely no interest in hunting. The more expensive models allow you to amplify talking so you can hear your buddy, while the louder gunshots (or jackhammers or whatever the loud noise is that you're surpressing) are surpressed, but I don't see the need for such a fancy model, myself. I don't want to be distracted by the conversations of others on the range when I'm shooting - plus, you can hear people talking just fine - as long as they yell - which isn't a big deal on a firing range!

I have been right next to other folks who were firing .45 and .50 caliber rounds - the racket those bullets make is mind-numbing - I can literally feel my skull vibrate when the rounds are fired - and they're still very loud while wearing the ear protection - but ultimately, my ears are undamaged thanks to the protection afforded by these babies.

I never need to fiddle with the head strap and even after an hour in a sweltering shooting range, the headphones do not slip from their original place. If you wear earings, it's highly advisable that you remove them, because the snug fit of this gear will shove your posts or hooks right into your carotid glands!

When you're by yourself firing, you don't get much of the concussion of sound, but if other people are shooting beside you - whew! They can be shooting the same model gun and the same exact rounds, but it sounds 50 times as loud. You will be able to hear - during AND after shooting. :-)

  • Well worth the money
    By A6SHOGP56RZLA on 2004-12-07
Comfortable, adjustable, and serious noise reduction. Well padded and insulated, nice for cold weather. These fit snug, and do not slip w/ bending or stretching, or even a fall off a ladder. Yeah unfortunately I tested this when blowing leaves from the gutters a couple of weeks ago. Ouch, my glasses flew 10 feet, but these puppies stayed on. I could not even hear myself scream!
Excellent for high end chipper shredders or high pitched gas powered weeders.
However when you are working near the road, you must take precuation, you are basically deaf in these.

  • Good but inflexible
    By A3D1XV0964RHP2 on 2006-01-06
Biggest deficit is inability to custom fit to one's head. We're all different size; comfort adjustment is essential for long duration use in the shop or shooting range

  • Outstanding
    By ADAAINI6O5RH6 on 2004-11-09
I'd give this 6 stars if I could. Very comfortable. I'll find that I'm still wearing them 45 minutes after I turned the table saw off. It advertises a 30dB noise reduction and that ain't just fluff. These things really make it quiet.

  • Great Protection for extreme needs
    By A5WRKFUY16F17 on 2006-08-27
I've been using Peltor hearing protectors for almost 20 years. They are consistently the most comfortable on the market and let's face it, if it isn't comfortable, it won't get worn. This is the first time I have tried the H10A. It lives up to it's noise reduction, and I will definitely use it when the situation requires (my large loud planer comes to mind). But for most work, I still prefer the H9A. It is lighter, and therefor more comfortable over time. Buy these for extreme protection, but for normal needs (general shop use, loud lawn mowers, etc) the H9A's are going to be more comfortable and you will wear them longer. I also use a pair of collapsible Peltor #H6F/V for on the job sight. Not quite as comfortable, but much more convenient to store in my tool bags. For more information, google Peltor and look round. Good pricing is available.

  • Peltor H10A Professional Earmuff Hearing Protector
    By AONJF8EV1PZBP on 2006-08-10
The hearing protector itself does work very well. The issue
that I do have is that the item description when I ordered the
the earmuff protectors does not match what I received. Don't know
if this is a problem with the company selling the item listing it
incorrectly or whether it was a problem with the Amazon web page
pointing to another item. At any rate what I ordered is not what
I recieved. The item I ordered listed earmuffs which were also
headphones with a radio and the ability to connect an external
source to the headphones. What I received was simply hearing protection. This is NOT WHAT I WANTED. I would have been happy
to pay more for what I wanted, just as long as I received what
I ordered. My concern was not the price, it was the function.

  • heavy, gives headaches
    By A3EGA79U0512AS on 2007-12-18
These headphones are heavy and non adjustable so the band at times can put pressure on your head and cause headaches. I cannot use mine for long periods of time because of this pressure/ headache issue. I suggest getting a different pair with an adjustable band. I favor (and consistently use) the AO Safety "Economy" or sometimes called "Basic" earmuff for its adjustable headband. This other style can be purchased on Amazon or at local hardware stores.

  • Make your own soundproofed headphones
    By A3VGXTGVBWUEKV on 2005-03-07
I needed headphones that would block outside sound. Noise-canceling phones were much too expensive, so I decided to try making my own. First I bought a pair of Peltor H10A earmuffs. Then I took a pair of headphones that came with a portable CD player, pulled off the earpieces, and inserted them into the earmuffs. Presto, homemade noise-blocking headphones. They work great, they're very comfortable, they cost less than $30, and I put them together myself in about five minutes, which is very satisfying. Can't beat it.

  • Finest Hearing Protectors on the planet!
    By A2CNT9TMXQ69KW on 2005-08-29
I'm a hearing impaired person that has limited ability to hear. It is very important to me to save the little hearing I have with the help of hearing aids. I have tried other brands of hearing protectors when I mow the lawn or use the jig saw, etc, but these are without a doubt the finest hearing protectors I've come across. I recommend that all people wear these hearing protectors (Peltor H10A Professional Earmuff Hearing Protector) that work around shop machines or yard machines to save their hearing.

  • QUIET SPACE ANYWHERE
    By AYI62QZB0M3RX on 2006-10-10
I use them while doing research in a library. It's unbroken silence despite screaming kids and adults talking into their cellphones. People no longer understand proper behavior in a library, but I don't care. I can't hear them. It's wonderful.

The Peltor is also big enough for guys with enormous heads like me.

  • Whats that you say...?
    By A2M9REM9XTPVPZ on 2005-11-04
Wow. I cna not believe I have left my ears that exposed for so long. talk about reducing noise. Routers, table saw, shop vac...etc. These are great. It was a little tight on my head at first. I wear a size 7 fitted cap, but I just bent them out a little bit and now they fit snug.

THey are not so comfortable that you will forget that you are wearing them..but they really do the job they are intended for. Two thumbs up for this product-

    Jason

  • good product, wrong description
    By A22BNXUCZHPD82 on 2007-03-19
bought this item about a month ago.
first i noticed is the wrong descrition.

here's the description on Amazon in the last sentence:
"It also has an audio port for radio connections."

    that is a wrong description.
    it has no audio port.

the product does its job well.

i would have given a 5 star except the wrong description.

  • Not perfect, but well worth it
    By A30HZHD3C84QDO on 2007-07-15
Last year I had a roommate who snored. Foam earplugs were ineffective, so I decided to try these earmuffs. They didn't quite work like I hoped.

    1. I was always paranoid that I wouldn't be able to hear my alarm in the morning while wearing them. I could hear the alarm when fully conscious, but hearing it from the haze of sleep was a different story.
    2. The earmuffs did not mute the outer world as well as I expected. Loud snoring penetrates through. Banging sounds from neighbors above penetrates through.
    3. I generally sleep on my side, which did not go well with these earmuffs because the ear cups are so big.

Except for a few nights, these earmuffs didn't really help me sleep. But they have proven to be very valuable for another reason. I am the kind of person who is distracted very easily. Small noises in the background make it very difficult to focus when I am studying. Even a library can be a nightmare for me due to whispering, typing, ruffling paper sounds. Wearing these, however, eliminates or "blurs" most background noise and makes it much easier to focus. I put them on almost every time I need to study, especially when I need to read long passages. For this reason, these earmuffs will be useful to me for years to come.

  • A life saver on the plane!
    By AJQFV2PTHNT1O on 2007-09-11
I bought this for my yearly home trip cross pacific ocean.

Unlike those pricey noise-cancelling earphone, this just reduce the outside noise by blocking.

It's a much better choice for audiophile on plane since you don't have to suffer from the audio distortion from noise-cancelling.

All you need is a nice in-ear phone and put the muff on.

You can enjoy the music with least distortion and distraction.

Also you don't have to boost the volume up, so you are actually protecting you ear which noise-cancelling cannot do the same.

Most importantly, it cut off those unpleasant noise as well.

In my west-coast to east coast flight, it save me from screaming baby and impatient mother.

Thanks for this muff, I'm the only one can still be myself in the whole plane~~

It's a little bit hot after wearing them for hours, but it's nothing compare to the tranquil it brings you all the way.

  • must have for dad of small children
    By A4ZD2R7Z2ZRLE on 2007-11-04
We bought these for my husband who is trying to read and study to get his masters degree with three kids at home (ages 1,3,5). It allows him to read in quiet-- I think it has saved him as the only TRUE quiet in our house occurs between 11:00pm-5am. GREAT PRESENT

  • "Easy adjustment for different sizes" ? No.
    By A38GVPOYY4VGEC on 2008-03-27
The Amazon product description is wildly inaccurate. This is a totally non-adjustable pair of sound-reducing ear pieces. No "easy adjustment for different sizes" as Amazon's technical description promises, no audio capability as its product description promises. Amazon customers deserve better.

I have an average adult male-sized head, and they're too small for me. The headband is too short to let the ear pieces sit properly on my ears, and it pinches too tightly to be comfortable for more than a couple minutes.

I think these would be fine for a teenager or an adult with a smaller-than-average head. If that's not you, I recommend you keep looking.

  • Outstanding hearing protection--and comfortable!
    By A2XEBWRBG8J8VU on 2004-10-05
Sound reduction of these Swedish-made earmuffs is far superior to my previous ones--I've had to alter my radio listening habits when in the shop. More important, the padding is nicely flexible, and conforms to eyeglass earpieces without leaks or noticeable pressure. And, best of all, the springy headpiece does not crush your head--my previous "shooter" earmuffs squeezed so tightly that I could only wear them a few minutes.

  • Definitely great item for the price
    By AX6Y2KPJE9QVY on 2004-10-14
This was the first set of ear protection that I have bought other than the foamy earbuds. And let me tell you when you use foam earbuds and these peltor earmuffs, WOW! can't hardly hear anything!
Great for running anything from a table saw, router, planer, to a hammerdrill. If i was doing something like jackhammering all day i would probably want something more, but for the price its a small price to pay for my hearing. I wish I would have had this years ago.

  • Best cubicle accessory ever.
    By A2CYWMD941VJ8W on 2005-05-06
I've tried a number of noise reducing products. These are basically as good as they get, not to mention cheap! Far better than normal-grade noise cancelling-anything. Surprisingly comfortable despite "oh my god I'm wearing cups on my head" looks.

I keep a pair handy in my cubicle for concentration and for blocking out noisy neighbors. Easy on, easy off---unlike foam inserts.

My coworkers keep borrowing them and showing them off---everyone's been surprised at their effectivenss.

  • These earmuffs have double uses...
    By A3IK94CJOX49AG on 2005-08-08
I have to be honest in that I bought these earmuffs because I have an extremely noisy family (two little brothers especially) and a lot of homework to do. These earmuffs work well not blocking, but toning down the sound of a blaring TV so I can finally get some work done. They are bulky but trust me, it's well worth the $$$ if you have the same problems as I do. I can read, draw, study, or just surf the internet effectively with no worries, and no headaches. Warning: The real world sounds reeeeally loud once you take these off. I recommend these earmuffs for use of blocking noises that are very loud and annoying. They are a good product for the price.

  • Best hearing protection yet
    By A1GBFX1YIHSFMH on 2005-10-16
I have used the Peltor brand hearing protection products for many years. I found these comfortable and very effective against blocking all damaging noise in my woodworking shop. The soft cushion outer ring was effective in allowing me to wear eye protection with no loss of protection.

  • Saved!
    By A23L7IH3XVRFHY on 2006-02-13
I bought the Peltor Hearing Protector in desperation. The woman in the apartment upstairs is a terror. I don't think she means to be, but nevertheless she is. The noise! I call her Elephant Girl. Mostly because she and her friends - often at 2:00 and 3:00 a.m. - sound like a herd of elephants in combat boots about to bring down my ceiling. Do you know that late 50's film with Elizabeth Taylor, "Elephant Walk"? Think climactic scene and you have a good idea of what Elephant Girl is like. [I pass over the fact that her voice is so loud on the phone that I can hear her conversations. Advice to the lovelorn at 11:00 p.m.? Wonderful.] So - being on the verge of suicide or madness, I turned to Peltor. They work! Admittedly, they are a bit bulky to sleep in; but I'm learning - with some creative use of pillows. But they work and I'm saved. And if you just want to work or walk in them? No problem - very comfy. I'd give them 20 stars if I could!

  • These do the job!
    By A1NTGSDWGYZPH8 on 2006-05-06
I am a software developer and work from the home.
I have 3 small kids. These 'headphones' let me stay sane and
    get some work done.
I am wearing them right now. I can hear a distant muffled screaming from my 1 year old. Doesn't bug me at all.
Enough Said! I am now thinking of getting the
same type of thing, but with a radio on it.
