An Overall Strong Debut By A1UXM3UR1WHP6S on 2003-12-20
1. Burn - a slow, heavy song, a really good introduction to the cd, too. 5/5 2. Just Like You - Despite the obvious over-playing of this song, its still rather good. 5/5 3. I Hate Everything About You - ugh.. radio ruined this song, as they will most likely do with track 2, but it still stands out as a good song, just one you may have heard too much. 4.5/5 4. Home - A slower, heavier song, but not quite like 'burn'. There is, however, a lot of emotion in this song. 4/5 5. Scared - A faster song on the cd, pretty good. 4.5/5 6. Let You Down - I dont remember much worth listening to in this song.. 3.5/5 7. Now Or Never - Same as track 6 (this is the 'slowdown' of the album') 8. Born Like This- after 2 mediocore songs, things really pick up.. this song RULES. while the verses arent noteworthy, the really heavy nature of the chorus is awesome.. 5/5 9. Drown - Very Catchy chorus. 4/5 10. Wake Up - I dont know why, but i find this to be one of best songs on the cd.. they truly convey an emotion here. 5/5 11. Take Me Under - I dont like this song too much for some reason.. 3.5/5 12. Overrated - A pretty good closing track.. it sounds so.. tired.. depressed, ect.. a good song when youre tired, theres certainly something .. dark about the vocals. 5/5so, despite 3 mediocore tracks, this album more than makes up for it.. a very good album, a few essential tracks makes it more than worth it.
My first taste of Three Days Grace.... By A3UZHPT6414PS0 on 2005-06-21
Like many other reviewer's here my first taste of Three Days Grace was hearing the song 'Just Like You' on our local radio rock stations here in Sydney and I knew I had to get the album release and I sure wasn't disappointed. When I heard the song 'I Hate Everything About You', I immediately knew I purchased a great album from an up and coming rock group. Yes the radio versions of the song made this band sound more 'popish' but the CD does this band the ultimate justice and the way they wanted to be heard and sound. This band of young men are pure rock, through and through with a touch of punk. The guitars are the signature sound of this new band on the nu-rock scene and whilst it is different and the lyrics are wonderous and tell a story of a angst ridden teenage world, the band follows through with 12 songs of the highest quality. The song 'Let You Down' is also a nice one and the second last song is a nice ending touch to this magnificient album.
Get this album if you liked the 'Lost Prophets' or 'Jet'. I look forward to more of this band in the coming years.
Great Band, With Plenty Of Potential By AZSN1TO0JI87B on 2004-12-24
By now everyone has developed an opinion of Three Days Grace. As of this point, they are the most played band on modern rock radio since Linkin Park or Creed. The great thing about TDG is that they have the ability, and a solid debut, to back up all of their seemingly sudden popularity. Now, as far as the album goes, it's not the most original piece of work -- the topics and emotions expressed here have been done to death before (and their sound has traces of Finger Eleven and Staind all over it) -- but the key here is that the music is pretty interesting and innovative at times (for this genre anyways) and all the songs are sung with conviction. To make a comparison, these guys are much in the same vein as Smile Empty Soul. Everyone knows the instantly recognizable singles "I Hate Everything About You" and "Just Like You," but there are other moments that are just as worthy of recognition. "Home," their newest single, is easily my favorite song of the batch. Just like the other two singles, this one revolves around a topic that is almost universal, but this song is just much more emotional and definitely grabs you from the opening. "Drown" is a deeply depressing, but very genuine song (I love the first few lines to that song), while more upbeat, but still negative songs like "Scared" (with it's overbearing opening riff) and "Overrated" fill the room and represent the band's live power to perfection. Afterall, having been able to see them live, I can tell you they put on quite a show. And this is definitely one of those albums that sounds better live. Although there isn't one song in particular I don't like, this album isn't without it's flaws, but I think it's safe to say Three Days Grace will be able to cement themselves a little better on their next album. As is stands though, this is a great beginning. The bonus DVD is a nice addition, as it features all three of their current music videos, with making-of features (Raab Himself, of "Jackass" fame even shows up during the "Just Like You" shoot) and plenty of live footage, the highlight of which being their acoustic set for Rollingstone.com. If you're a fan of modern-rock, hard-rock, or whatever you want to call it, TDG will most likely be right up your alley. And if you really love the album, the reissue is worth the money.
Another Great Upcoming Band By AIP35PFWLKEHY on 2003-08-18
I have really been into some of the new bands coming out like Revis, Smile Empty Soul, Depswa, Closure, Double Drive, Pulse Ultra, 12 Stone, Trust Company, Dry Cell, Trapt, Buzzhorn & Mad At Gravity and Three Days Grace was just another pleasant surprise. I first heard I Hate Everything About You and I was drawn in. The rest of the cd is full of great songs, with Scared & Born Like This being the only two songs I wasn't crazy about. Their sound isn't unique, as they sound very similar to Canadian counterpart Finger Eleven. But if you like Finger Eleven, the bands I listed above and well written lyrics combined with very emotional music, this cd is a can't miss.
Full of grace By A2D6B8A7L41N7N on 2004-02-21
This album was amazing. what lead me onto it was my friend liking it, and since he likes to same music as me, i thought i'd give this a try. i didnt like the single they first put out called i hate every thing about you, but now i love it because of the deepness of it. I got the CD and couldn't put it down. 1.) Burn - great song, amazing chorus. the lyrics stand out more in this song than the rest. 5/5 2.) just like you - cool song, but grew old fast for me. 4.5/5 3.) i hate every thing about you - very very good, i can't get enough of it. 5/5 4.) home- didnt like it at first, but now its one of my favorites. 5/5 5.) scared - lyircs are a little...shallow. not deep enough. "i think i hear it creeping, i think i feel it move". a little immature. 3.5/5 6.) let you down - my fav on the album. i love the lyrics, reminds me of a vampire cult (lol), but thats not a bad thing. The instruments are played so well in this song. i can listen to it for days straight. 5/5 7.) now or never - about wanting more from life and wanting to change whats happening in the world. great message. 5/5 8.) born like this - not sure what its about...but its cool nonetheless. 4/5 9.) drown - AMAZING. about getting away from a bad relationship with whomever it might be. 5/5 10.) wake up - has the best line in it, "i must be running out of luck, cause you're just not drunk enough to f---". haha I LOVE IT! 5/5 11.) take me under - about sex? lol. um its pretty good. doesnt stand out, but still a solid song. 4/5 12.) overrated - very cool. the lyrics are great in this one. 5/5overall, the CD is great, but the lyrics needed a little tweaking. also i noticed that they are very repetative. o well. great bands like Nirvana had repetative songs, but still remained on top of the world. I believe this band will grow from album to album and expand their music into deep and touching themes that will only make them even more greatly accomplished.
- Plenty of room for 6 stars or more
     By A1H1QB7LRK2ZKF on 2004-03-19
I bought this CD with the notion of the hit single "I hate everything about you". After reading several reviews and viewing the video only 5 times, my mind was set on purchasing this cd. A well spent 17.99 at my near by Spec's on Okechobee, and not to shabby of a buy if I and i MUST say so myself. Three Days Grace puts an extreme amount of emotion and heart into there lyrics. Every lyric on this cd is relative to the hit single, except in the very last and final track. "Overrated", where Three Days Grace,"TAKES A SHOT", as Rage Against The Machines front man Zach De La Rocha did in the track "Wake up" off of there self titled cd,they decide to go a little political in this track, which is ALWAYS nice the artist has other views to express besides dwelling on the same lyrics over and over like artists such as Jay-Z. Judging by these lyrics, i think we can definitely tell the lead singer has had personal experiences and we can also take away here-say IMMEDIATELY. Three days grace's lyrical direction reminds me "somewhat" of alanis morissette's jagged little pill cd, except the mans point of view. I did say somewhat now. The track that really grasped my feel into these boys is "Home", a great riff from the "regular"(which is very rare to find these days and still have a slight edge and or more of an edge) guitar and absolutely amazing lyrics, very well written. All in all a very consistent cd, and im already waiting for the next album. Artists like these always make you wonder about the new sound they are to put out for us fans. I think of Three days grace as a mix of 3 Doors Down and Nickeback mixed, with a touch of Linkin Parks edge minus the bass and computers. This CD well then deserves more then 5 stars. Need i say more?
- Canadian hard rock at its finest!
     By A30B7JH72KOJIB on 2003-08-02
Hailing from our neighbors to the north, the three young guys in Three Days Grace are the best thing to emerge from the Canadian rock music scene since Our Lady Peace. Bands like Nickelback, Default, Sum 41, etc. just don't make the cut. But these guys are a totally different story. Sonically speaking, they are the illegitimate children of a fight between the Deftones and, interestingly enough, Smile Empty Soul (another great 3-piece band, check them out also; as well as Flaw and RA...not 3-piece bands), with slight twists of Blindside and 12 Stones thrown in, topped off by a hint of Tool. That may sound strange, but it totally works. The first single off this disc, "I Hate Everything About You", is a fine choice for a single, as it is fairly radio-friendly, but that's not to say that the other songs aren't, as this band is living proof that today's musicians need not plague their songs with profanity in order to make powerful, emotive hard rock. In fact, upon listening to the entire CD, I found only one use of the "f" word in one song (track number 10, "Wake Up"), some use of the "s" word in another song (track number 12, "Overrated"), and that's it as far as profanity goes; which probably explains why there is no Parental Advisory sticker on the case. Nevertheless, every song here has potential to be a hit. In addition to the first single, standout tracks include "Burn", "Home", "Now Or Never", "Drown", and "Take Me Under". These young guys are great musicians...soaring vocals, slamming guitars, and a very solid rhythm section. From a lyrical perspective, most of the songs start out negative, but usually resolve on a positive note. For the price this CD is currently going for here on Amazon.com and in most retail stores, it is a great deal that any self-respecting rock fan should not pass up. Get it quick while it's still fairly cheap and before the rest of the world catches on. I've got a feeling that these three extremely talented young musicians are going to play a major role in shaping the future of modern rock music as we know it.
- One of the best CDs I own...
     By A3MW0G4ICFUHWX on 2005-02-21
I'm writing this review from the perspective of someone who owns various kinds of music, and likes to listen to a CD to pass the time...not to find everything I can wrong with it. Anyways...
I heard "I Hate Everything About You", "Home" and "Just Like You" on the radio and immediately pursuaded my mom to go with me to the store to buy the CD. Now personally, I consider myself a borderline rock person. The farthest in I'll go with that whole genre is Linkin Park, which for some of you may not be very far. XD But whatever. :P I love this whole CD and consider it probably one of my favorites. Yeah, the songs get old quickly, but if one does that then you just skip to the next track. Overall I think the individual songs aren't similar as a whole. You get a pretty good variety on this CD.
No, they're no Metallica but get over it. I don't even listen to Metallica so I don't give a flip. And the lyrics, yeah, they may be repetitive but they write em. Get over it. Please, if you can do so much better then go out and make a CD. Then come back and post the title so you can enlighten us all with your mad skills. :) I for one would LOVE to hear them.
I'd post an overview like I've done before in a few of my other reviews, but reading the reviews on here (and I find this to be especially true with rock music), it's really a matter of personal taste. You see people bash 3DG because they play 3 chords, have weak lyrics and are inferior to other rock bands...but some people aren't looking for a band that plays kick a** rifts or has lyrics that you feel like commiting suicide to and/or can barely hear over the screaming.
Overall, I think this is a great CD for music lovers. It's got some great songs that are great for bad days or just to listen to when you feel like rockin out. Whichever, if you really are still unsure about this CD listen to the sound samples. Most of them include the chorus, which can be very influential as to your decision concerning whether or not you like a song. I'd personally recommend this CD to anyone. I sure as hell liked it. Can't wait for their next one. 5 out of 5 stars most definately.
- Straight up, honest rock
     By A1N16ZSJ1BXJFL on 2003-12-07
Three Days Grace achieves something most bands wished they could...they just play rock music. There's no effects, no turntables, no keyboards, no choirs in the background, just a guitar, a voicebox, a bass and some drums. Simple. That doesn't make them any less powerful to listen to. I haven't heard a rock mega-hit of such proportions since "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback came out. Now "Just Like You" is getting airplay as well. Both are incredible songs. The entire disc is great from beginning to end. No two songs sound the same, and it's obvious this band isn't trying to impress. They just wanna write music that's personal, and hope that it touches people. Buy this CD if you haven't already. If you're into Oleander, Nickelback, and Chevelle, you'll like these guys a lot.

Unbelievably unoriginal, jaw-droppingly formulaic, symbolizing every hard rock cliché imaginable, Three Days Grace is more puerile, immature, generic, godawful, "I-hate-my-parents-and-my-girlfriend", lobotomized CRAP for the proud to be "angsty" and "sensitive" nu-metal and post-grunge crew. Call this heavy metal? Take away the swathes of guitar-lite tacked on to signify some sort of user-friendly authenticity and you've got Nsync talking about drugs and boo-hoo subjects. For all their talk about their little "feelings", his album has about as much soul and passion and creative originality as a rotting corpse or whatever horrific image offends you to the very core."Every time we lie awake/after every HIT we take." Ooooooh! The big, ugly man with the horrible voice is talking about DRUGS! I'm soo scared and intimidated! He's talking about hurting himself and bad relationships! How EDGY! How THREATENING! Ooh, but wouldn't it be more threatening to talk about the actions and policies of the US government?! Or maybe about the evils of organized religion?! Oooh, no! It's much more SCARY to talk about yourself! Crack open George Dubya's head whilst he's having sex with his favorite prettiest cowboy boot and this is the filthy, fetid guff that would belch out. Pig-ugly and conservative as hell, when faced with Three Days Grace we can at least thank Christ for the Rap-Metal crew. At least they're not just wallowing in their own petty, dull, world-weary angst and inadequacy..."Three Days Grace" is sh*t by the way as if you didn't know... Want some good music with excitement, soul, passion, innovation, and good lyrics? Look anywhere but here. This f*cker's dead on arrival.
- Wow, do you guys really like this?
     By on 2004-08-23
I first heard about 3 Days Disgrace when I was flipping through a Guitar World magazine and saw an ad for Ibanez guitars with the guitarist of this band posing with his axe. Ibanez makes overpriced guitars crap bands like to play and the singer had a mohawk so I could only assume they where some $hitty pop-punk group. My suspicions where half correct. This band is terrible, but they are not pop punk. Rather, they are watered down post-grunge/nu metal/angst rock. They even have a song called I Hate Everything About You. I don't know what's more astounding. The fact that they could title that song with a straight face, or that they are unaware that Ugly Kid Joe wrote a much better and more memorable song of the same title years ago.
3 Days Disgrace are sort of like the Trixter of the early 20th century. You see, Trixter where an early 90's hair metal band who debuted just on the heels of Nirvana and the Seattle invasion. Their music mattered little, because things where changing. Thus is the fate of this nu metal joke and all the other bands biting off Creed, Finger Eleven and Chevelle, who themselves are biters of better bands.
Also, the fact that this band is Canadian isn't exactly doing anything to help the music credentials of the Great White North either.

Im sorry, but I just have no understanding of what people see in this band. I have listened to this album a few times, and every time it just seems more boring and shallow. They give you very straight forward and generic messages that other bands send better. The music has no meaning or emotion and really just feels like a band created by a record label for disenfranchised teens and the MTV "rock" sound.

-Ditch the mohawks. Mohawks are for punk rock, and I am by no means a die-hard punk fan but nothing looks worse than you guys 'hawking it up when you're playing crap nu metal riffs.
-Stop acting like your lyrics are "an expressive outlet" which "help kids deal with anger and stress". Do not for a second think that your trite and worthless lyrics are somehow more eloquent and meaningful than the rest of the nu-angst crowd. You should have taken some pointers from the decline of grunge. I've read interviews with your singer and you guys clearly do not know your place. You are a nu metal band who preaches to suburban malcontents.
-Learn, oh I dunno, guitar? There are 6 strings on the instrument that are capable of a wider range of sounds, riffs and melodies than the Staind/Trapt/Everybody else approach. Stop jumping up in the air to strike the "rockin'" nu metal kid pose. If you click on the sound samples of the recommended bands from this page you will hear absolutely NO difference between your band and the others.
-Just admit you want to make money.
-My final word of advice: Get day jobs and never make music again, hacks.
- Boring and Bland
     By A1PBJCDSWY7KEA on 2003-12-30
Well, to get to the point, Three Days Grace is an overrated band. All the hype their getting from MuchMusic and radio stations in both Canada and America is not deserved. Why? Because it all sounds the same and its dull. I'll use their latest single Just Like You for an example. The drums in the song are the EXACT same and the only time they change it is to hit a cymbol. And the intro you hear at the beginning of the song is used throughout the whole damn thing. The lyrics are weak and they repeat themselves over and over again. If you actually LIKE a change, you'll see just how dull this band is and its obvious that they'll be one of those one-hit wonders. If you like this, you'll forget about this disc in about a year. So, go ahead and click on the "No, this review was not helpful" button. I dont care. Their an insult to Canadian music. Buy a CD from Sum 41 instead. Their songs dont sound the same, they actually know how to PLAY their instruments and the lyrics do not repeat themselves over and over again. That is all.
- Wow!
     By on 2004-07-16
I really like the song Anthem of Our Dying Day by Three Days Grace! Wait... Three Days Grace doesn't sing that? Well, I still really like that song Last Train Home! Oh they don't sing that either? But I really dig that tune they sing that's on TV and the radio all the time. I think it's called The Reason...Bottom line, these guys are a carbon copy of just about any other mainstream band out there. They are completely indistinguishable from the dozens of other bands out there that are just like them unless the people on TV and the radio repeat their name about 20 times. Not to mention they are so unoriginal it's almost funny. Almost. We've heard plenty of songs about depressed singers hating things and none of them have been any good since the mid 90's. I'm not going to recommend a different CD because you can honestly pick a CD at random and it'll turn out to be better than this.
- Ugh
     By A319314EHZSE8G on 2005-02-11
Funny how the lead singer of this futile band thinks Eddie Vedder clones are unoriginal. Is he unaware that his band reeks of the very unoriginality he's whining about? The premise of this band is quite simple: get a guy whose voice will make your ears bleed, followed by the ability to play three chords on guitar. We haven't heard of a band like that before, right? It's such a pity when a band like this is taking away the spotlight from talented and original musicians. Avoid this at all costs.
- Oh, Three Days Grace, you're what the Spaniards call...
     By A5RS5GOI3I98T on 2005-02-16
EL TERRIBLE! This album is a waste of time, money, and production. Their lyrics are simple and contradict each other on a constant, steady basis; Their rifts are basic and ripped off of every other MTV metal band out to date; They have no talent...None. From the goofy, big nosed singer, to the fat, mohawk-having guitarist. A band designed by simpletons, for simpletons, and played all over the radio so they make a little cash. Nothing more. Save your money for a good album and save your time for quality masturbation.
- Song #12 says it all
     By on 2004-04-30
Wow this band is HORRIBLE. Could they be any more generic? Okay, their catchy, but their also lifeless, uninspired, and just... boring. Their like a mediocre version of Linkin Park who are pretty damn mediocre themselves. "I Hate Everything About You" made me crack up at the lyrics the first time I heard them because their so stupid, their not fun, not different, just cliche and pointless. Wanna know something odd? This band is on the same record label as NSync... bahahaha...
- HAHAHAHAHA......This is a joke, right?
     By on 2004-06-08
This CD has to be one of the worst releases from one of the worst bands I've ever heard. Why you ask? Every song is a carbon copy of the song before it, and a carbon copy of every other lousy trio of loser rockers. And it really bugs me when I read reviewers who say things like this:"Metal at its greatest" Are you kidding me? This crap isn't even good enough to be called nu-metal! It's pure radio-friendly pop-rock that tries to be angry cause, like OMG!!, being super angry is super cool! Also, there are reviewers who say things like this: "I can totally relate to the lyrics" WHAT!?!? All the guy does on this circular piece of crap is tell someone he hates (his girlfriend? his mom? his band?....I wish) that he'd like to see them burn, that they are cold, that he hates everything about them, that they are never home.....yada yada yada. The worst song lyrically is "Wake Up", when he says that he doesn't want to see this person anymore, then complains "Where the hell are you when I need you?" People who don't even have a third grade education should be banned from forming bands and making money.....this just flat out sucks.
- Ok...
     By A3FMHNUNU4CUKW on 2004-06-13
So maybe it doesn't deserve 1 star, but the average should not be more than stars! The lyrics are just so terribly repetitive and pointless. These guys are trying to copy Finger Eleven and are sucking at it. I am very dissapointed to see that bands like this are outshining true talent from bands such as Matthew Good, The Mars Volta, and Dredg. It's a really big shame to see that bands that can make one catchy song can become huge. I'm not saying catchy is bad, but when that's the only thing going for it, it's not good. So, I'm going to say that if you are one of the very many who enjoy the steady decline of true talent and excellence in music, then buy this piece of crap. I'm sure you'll like it. But if you are one of the people left in America who still knows real music when you hear it, pass this garbage on to your 12 year old cousin.

Need i say anymore, then the most pathtic lyrics in the world, stupidest band name ever, Nothing in the least bit new, just typical chlechie numetal. I mean these guys are hardrock, with their drop d tuning, and amazing bar chords, wow, and the their lyrics that are repeated about a million times in each song, an d by the way, are so forced to fit, need i say anymore...don't think so, ohh but all you cool kids can listen to your rock and roll band that hates everything about you...
- there should be a law...
     By AREO340US9QP8 on 2004-09-14
This sort of trash should be banned. Simply put, it is uninspired, self-pitying, mindless dribble performed with absolutely no talent or charisma. The guitar tone sounds like a walmart keyboard, the lyrics are pathetic, and the whole thing is a waste. I hate everything about you... hmm, I wonder if someone owned Ugly Kid Joe America's Least Wanted back in the day. Please don't be fooled by this kind of garbage.
- Everything about it is terrible
     By A31CDWOUDZT6C8 on 2005-03-05
A friend let me hear it, and I had a feeling it would be terrible after hearing the horrendous 3 radio hits(home, just like you, and i hate everything about you. This is the formula for 3 days grace's success(as well as a lot of other bands): Go to drop D tuning and bash powerchords and have a terrible singer in the back scream. After playing guitar for about a month I was able to play everything on this terrible album forwards and backwards. Of the 3 hits the worst was "home". What an awful uncreative song. The other two songs are nearly as bad. The songs are all about bitter feelings most likely toward girls...What a group of posers. The sad thing is this awful uncreative excuse for a band is that they will probably make a good chunk of money in there terrible career where great newer bands like Shadows Fall or Mastodon won't make a quarter of it.
- Probably one of the worst bands I have ever heard in my life
     By A3JH5JIST19ZF0 on 2005-03-21
This is one of those bands where you wonder how after they make a song they say "yea guys... this is good.. lets put this out for the world to hear." ugh.. total garbage. Not one aspect of this band merits any acclaim... guitar riffs are boring and lack any real skill, drumming is slow and unbelievably simple. And on a side note, the singer/guitarist looks like a crack-head adolecent version of Sully Erna from Godsmack.
The lyrics are probably the most retarded teenage girl/angst ridden garbage that I have ever heard in my life. Lets actually take a look at some of the lines in this album: "By the time you come home, I'm already stoned. You turn off the TV, and you scream at me. I can hardly wait till you get off my case." Don't really need to say much about that... Lets look at another one: "I'm not sober all the time. You bring me down at least you try. Until we see this eye to eye I don't want you." yea.. uh huh.. some good lyrics right? Hah. These lyrics seem to give drug users a worse name then the actual drug use itself.
Sometime I get the impression that this band could possibly be in fact a joke band.. and all the members are playing mainstream music fans for fools with grins on their faces as their holding the big bucks.. but I really doubt that's the case. Anyone who actually claims that this album is good obviously doesn't really know anything about music. It really baffles me how talentless bands such as this one who could easily be upstaged by a toddler with pots and pans, are actually successful and mindless people actually enjoy listening to them!!! Wow. Bottom line: Do not, I repeat DO NOT waste your time and money with crap such as this band.
- Amazing debut album!
     By AMRK8PBVDLJCU on 2006-06-15
This is a great debut album, and its one of the best debut albums I've heard! There isn't a track on here I don't listen to, which is pretty rare for me. The first song I heard by them was the inevitable "I Hate Everything About You", and I didn't like it at all. It was probably a stage in my life where the angry rock music Three Days Grace plays did not suit my music tastes. Then "Home" came out, and once again, I did not like it (for the same probable reasons). Plus, the video really wierded me out, and it still does. Then I heard "Just Like You". This was the first song by Three Days Grace that I actually liked, and I also LOVED the video. For a while, that was all I listened to by them, until I got in one of my `I'm bored of my current music' moods. Then I listened to the entire album, and I really enjoyed it. I think my music tastes had changed, so the music I listened to was harder and angrier music, enabling me to fully enjoy their album. I even ended up liking the songs that I had hated before. Here is my track by track review of the album: 5 stars being the best!
1. Burn: 5/5 stars - This is a great track for the album to open with. It's loud (one of the loudest on here) and it's just a great track! It's not one of my top 3, but it's still a great track!
2. Just Like You: 5/5 stars - One of my favorite songs of the album, and as I said before, the one that introduced me to the band. I can NEVER get tired of hearing this song. I think I can definitely relate to it. There's a lot of people I know that are like what he describes, and I don't want to be anything like them. I also can relate this to my father, because while I love him a lot, he's nothing like what I want to be, and he's got a lot of traits that I don't want to have!
3. I Hate Everything About You: 5/5 stars - I love the guitar part to this album - it's simple, but awesome! Even though it was played over and over again on the radio, I still love it, and I can't get tired of it. Great song!
4. Home: 5/5 stars - This is a good song. It's not one of my favorites, but I can definitely listen to it, and I think it's pretty awesome and LOUD.
5. Scared: 4/5 stars - While still a good song, it's not one of my favorites, and I find myself skipping it on occasion. It's one of my least favorite tracks on the album, but it's still good!
6. Let You Down: 5/5 stars - One of my favorite songs on the album. When I first heard it, it reminded me of my ex-boyfriend. I told him a lot of stuff, and I thought I could trust him, but he turned out to be a jerk, and sort of let me down. I think it's a relatable song on the album, because I think most people have had someone let them down.
7. Now Or Never: 5/5 stars - Another one of my favorites off the album! I loved it the first time I heard it!
8. Born Like This: 4/5 stars - While it's a good song, it's not one of my favorites and I tend to skip it on occasion. This is my other least favorite song!
9. Drown: 5/5 stars - I LOVE this song. It's one of my favorites, and I can relate. I've had times where I've felt like I was alone, and all my friends had disappeared. I love the chorus: "If I need someone to control me, If I needed someone to hold me down... I would save myself before I drown". I think it's about living your life for yourself, and really just being who you are and not letting anyone change it.
10. Wake Up: 5/5 stars - I also love this song! It's another one of my favorites! I have a lot of them! It was another song that reminded me of my ex, and it was because, at that time I was very angry at him.
11. Take Me Under: 5/5 stars - Another one I love. It's probably my favorite song on the album. I have lyrics from it on my backpack (then again, my backpack has all kinds of random stuff on it! I've heard several meanings behind it, including that it's about sex. However for me, it seems like it has more meaning than that. I've always seen it as relating to someone wanting to commit suicide. Their dreams are gone, and they feel like they have nothing to live for, so their just waiting for something to take them away from this life. That's what I get from the lyrics and overall feel of the song. I'll often listen to it when I'm feeling sorta depressed.
12. Overrated: 5/5 stars - This a very good song and it's a good way to close the album. I really like this song. To me, it sorta relates to how teenagers think that their parents and we can't relate to them and that we come up with answers on our own.
And that's my review!

After seeing 3DG play a live show as an opening act, I had to find out who they were. I went to the merch booth, bought the CD and got them to sign it! The whole way home I listened to the CD and felt the energy of their music all over again. It's a CD that brings out your adrenaline and gets your heart pumping. It's hard not to rock out to it whether your at home or in your car. There is something that everyone can relate to on this CD. It comes from experience and from heart. You can feel the emotion put into the lyrics and you know exactly what is going on in their heads.
- Listen up......I've got something to say

I have already reviewed this album, but I do have a statement to make to those of you who can't understand how someone can listen to crap like this, when "much better stuff" (i.e. death metal) exists out there. If this is how you feel, please read on. Ok, I do agree with a lot of you who are saying that these guys are nothing new......they aren't. Infact, the similarities between these guys and Smile Empty Soul are endless. Just like SES, these guys complain about their lives on every single track, and do not write meanigful lyrics very often. Their music is very simple; I will also agree with that statement. And no, they aren't really metal....more alternative rock than anything. However, I am STILL compelled to listen to their songs. Why would that be? After all, didn't I just say that these guys write lyrics that no one will care about, and that their music is very easy and too simple? Yes, I did say that. However, what I didn't mention is the effect that the music has on one's mind; this varies from person to person. Someone, such as myself, will listen to these tracks, hear the melody and vocalization and the changes it undergoes from verses to choruses, and be moved and energized by this. Others will not be drawn in by what they hear, and will look for other styles. Even though I listen to a wide range of rock and metal (Hatebreed, Mushroomhead, Spineshank, Disturbed, Switchfoot, even the Red Hot Chilli Peppers) that's not my point. What I want those of you who say that people who like bands like Three Days Grace must be idiots and should search for real music to realize is that you don't initially like any music or genre for its inspired lyrics or complex solos. You are drawn in by what you initially hear, and this alone will determine whether or not you like the song/band. Later, you will look at their lyrics and examine the complexity of their solos to justify why you like what you like, but those reasons are not the strongest reasons that explain your liking. So, to all of you death metal-likers who complain about those of us who can like bands like these, I serioulsy doubt that every song you like contains inspired lyrics and complex solos, because such songs are few and hard to come by. Some of the songs you like just sound good to your ears, and thus you will listen to it. So ditch the superiority complex you have about your music; bands like these should NOT have to bow down to the bands that you listen to.....I rest my case.

Is it just me, or does ALL of this sound the same? Guitars cranked loud to sound "hardcore", same dumbass marblemouthed moron screaming "I love you my life is crap i hate you pain surrounds me I'm gonna do drugs to act tough". Who needs finesse, really? These guys don't. I mean, Jesus, Radiohead comes across tougher than these clowns. Of course, if you're into ultra-generic post-alternative/post-nu metal "rawk", this is your fix right here.

This CD I got just a week and a half ago. I listened to it all the way through first and I discovered that it wasn't what I had hoped, but it was pretty good. I would rather listen to The Rasmus, or Muse, but I think this CD is good as well.
Burn: Not really fond of the 20-some odd second fire and wind beginning, but once the rocking instruments start in and the vocals start up it becomes more of a song and less of a nature-type thing. It is really good and it is a good starter for the CD with the hard rock vocals and the clear instrumentals.
Just Like You: Second song of theirs I heard, second single as well, I believe. Really good. It is like a teen anthem, with people branching away from other people that try to get them to morph into themselves. I think this song is one of my favorites since I can relate most to it since I feel that way sometimes. Adults might not care for it as much, but rebellious teens probably love it.
I Hate Everything About You: Hate is an awfully strong word. But this song is like one big oxymoron with the lyrics, "I hate everything about you, why do I love you?" But I the vocals are very well done in this song and the lyrics are really thought out and very appropriate to a song with the word HATE in the title.
Home: One of my favorites on the whole CD. I has some drug references and it includes recapping probably some kind of scene where people just come home and they don't get along and they yell and scream and hide away from each other. It has some really good climactic-type instrumentals and the lyrics are really great, albeit they are kind of mediocre.
Scared: I love this song. It brings out the fear we can establish in ourselves and how it can grow to knaw at us. It reminds me of a kid staying over at a friend's house and the friend told him a story and it kept him awake. But it also reminds me of the book Darkfall where there are things in the walls and in the room the girl can't see in the prologue. Anyway, it is really good despite the yelling and the loud guitar bits. The drumming is really good and provides great rhythm throughout the whole thing. Kudos, Three Days Grace.
Let You Down: This song is mainly about putting your trust in someone and then being betrayed and (see the title!) let down. It has song great whispery vocals in the beginning but it has some great instrumentals that blend with the voice perfectly toward the middle and end of the song.
Now or Never: Mellow at the beginning, then you get the harder Three Days Grace you got the CD for. Then mellow again. It goes like that throughout the song but it has some better lyrics than some of the other songs. It seems like it has more deep lyrics.
Born Like This: Not really my favorite. It has some yelling in it that I don't like as much. But it is still a good song despite the fact that it isn't as good as some of the other songs on the record. Not my favorite, but it ranks somewhere in the middle. It gets mellow and them a few seconds later he yells, so it is a chaotic song.
Drown: Very nice song with an edgy beginning then some really haunting vocals. Every CD needs a song with lyrics like this, with some apologies and regrets that make you think about your own life. When I first heard it it made me cry because it reminded me of people breaking free to the extremes and being suicidal because of the title Drown. This is probably one of my top three favorites for the CD although it tends to be very ranging with the instrumentals and the yelling-to-whispering vocals.
Wake Up: Really great song with *gasp* acoustic guitar! You don't hear THAT too often in rock. It does have the f-word but it is used correctly in context, so I don't really care. It offends some people, but it helps illustrate the whole theme of the song. I really like the song with the chorus saying, "Wake up, I'm pouding on the door, I'm not the man I was before..." but I keep thinking he will say, "Wake up..." and then something about coffee... anybody waking up?
Take Me Under: Has some great instrumental bits and has some really serious lyrics. It is like the others, mellow and harder, but more mellow throughout the whole thing than the other songs. Has a great melody and it is a great song.
Overrated: For a finale, this was a good choice. It reflects the whole CD the best, with the harder side, the mellow edge, then the all-out nearly-yelling vocals towards the middle. With lyrics that remind me of Burn it tends to prove to be a bit washed out when I listen to it, but it is a good song nonetheless.
As an overall review for the record, it is a good album. The songs all tend to blend together because they all sound about the same because of the lack of difference in the whole thing. This wouldn't be my top choice of a CD buy. I'd get A.F.I. before Three Days Grace, but if you like some harder-yet-mellow rock groups, you'll appreciate Three Days Grace nonetheless.
