Mixed banes and blessings... By A20AZ60KW8ECZM on 2008-03-01
Based on the reviews read here, we bought three of these to contain a special subset of our main collection, which is housed in several large zippered binders made by Targus and CaseLogic. Comparing the two system concepts -- looseleaf book style vs. zipped binders -- we came to these conclusions:
* Zipped binders provide considerably more dust protection than the bookshelf binders.
* Looseleaf book-style binders afford greater flexibility in moving discs from one place in a volume to another than do zippered binders lacking removable page capability.
* Zipped binders with handles offer easier portability, even if only from room to room.
* These particular looseleaf book-style binders don't seem to be as well made as we expected; on receipt, the paper glued to inside the front cover of one was already beginning to detach. They do, however, offer convenient spine slots for labeling contents.
* Most seriously, these binders don't come with enough inserts to fill them out sufficiently; we found that the inserts from three binders barely fill two, leaving one empty binder and the need to buy additional inserts.
Tip: if you opt for this style (and are willing to accept the dust vulnerability), buy fewer binders but more inserts (sold separately at Large CD/DVD Binder Insert Pages). A filled binder will stand better on shelves and fill out the space between volumes from back to front.
This is a costly solution to the CD/DVD storage solution that looks better, I think, than it works. We'll keep the ones we have, and buy more inserts, but return to our former practice of using zippered, large-capacity, bookshelf-sized binders.
Full Binders, Empty Shelves By AGMHRFFED5FKB on 2007-07-13
I ordered two of these a week ago, got them yesterday, and just ordered two more. I am using the binder for music CDs. It indeed holds 48, using both sides of the page inserts, without having to force or squash them in. Each slot will fit a CD and the jewel case booklet (insert the CD playing surface toward the back - there is a soft cushiony material there). I plan to put all my CDs in these binders. You can insert lists of songs or other info next to each CD, but I will just flip through the pages to find the one I want. The binder is easy to handle. They look nice, and free up lots of shelf room. The faux-leather seems durable, and doesn't look tacky. The binder is large, so I probably wouldn't use it to carry CDs around, but could, in a pinch. I just wanted something sharp looking, easy to use, and less shelf clutter. This fits the bill just right!
Best binder ever ! By A319GNHGZYIRYV on 2006-02-07
If you are looking for ways to store your cds and dvds in a decorative setting, this is the binder you are looking for.
The best thing about this binder is it looks like a book in my library; it is not too wide and it doesn't extend beyond the size of other books. It comes only in black though, I wish we could have more options.
Best DVD storage solution I've found By AEKID8YBJSV8K on 2007-06-01
I started out with the smaller version of these and had my entire DVD collection in those for awhile but as my collection has grown to 335 discs now, this is a much better alternative. I still get the "books on a shelf" look which I love but the bigger size holds twice as many DVDs and are even expandable. The smaller ones aren't.
Useful and attractive By A14X244VGHWPSX on 2008-05-20
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3JZN24X1IEOUY I love these CD holders! I have been looking for some like it for years. They look really smart on the shelf. Some of the metal fittings were a little sloppy (there was black paint on 2 of them) and the paper label is difficult to change, but would absolutely recommend... I am being picky. They really look fabulous. I bought 3, then wanted more and bought 3 more!
- Fabulous product!
     By A1FNHONPJ0O3V6 on 2006-08-09
My brother-in-law introduced me to this product, and I love it! I have recommended this book to friends and family as well. It looks so sleek and sophisticated (as opposed to dozens of DVDs in their original boxes). Now I have my bookshelves back! I highly recommend.
- Beautiful CD Book
     By A2307S1GJR30GG on 2007-03-16
It arrived at my house about 15 hours after I ordered it, which astounded me. It is a really nice way to store cds by the computer or on a shelf while looking pulled together and elegant. This is a great solution to a common problem.
- Good quality, nice appearance, no tabs, no labels
     By A14XULA608M2V8 on 2008-02-29
The binder looks nice and appears to be good quality. The page inserts hold 4 DVDs each, 2 on each side. Each pocket has a soft cloth-like center sheet that the data side of the DVD rests against. It looks like it would protect from scratches. This is covered with a clear plastic cover, which has a small flap at the top to keep the disk from falling out if the binder were stored upside down. That flap could be better designed. If you do not lift it up before inserting the disk, it is very difficult to get it up.
Next to each cover is a narrow (1" wide) vertical pocket for a label. No blank labels were provided. There were also no tabs or divider pages provided and the design of the binder and pages do not really allow any space for divider pages. I would prefer getting rid of the narrow label space, making the pages narrower overall, and leaving space for divider pages, which should be provided. I went to the manufacturer website, [...]. They do not even offer any other type of pages.
There is a very small bracket on the spine that will take a 1.5" x 1" paper label. Again, no blanks are provided. These deficiencies cost them .5 stars.
The binder comes with 12 pages each holding 4 disks for a capacity of 48 disks. The binder looks like it could hold at least 3 times that many pages - maybe less when full. Replacement pages are almost as expensive as the binder + pages. I paid $[...] for the binder and 12 pages. The cost for 8 replacement pages is $[...]. It looks like they are trying to make a much bigger profit on the replacements pages and they provide way too few in the beginning. This cost them 1.5 stars.
I am going to go down to the local stationery store and look for standard binders and insert pages for DVDs/CDs. It probably won't be quite as pretty on the shelf, but then I am storing mainly software - not classic performances by the Berlin Philharmonic.
- Answered my storage needs
     By A181C1NVLF4O17 on 2006-11-13
The DVD storage covers saved me a huge amount of space and allowed me to catolog my Dvd movie collection. The covers arrived very quickly and were excellent. The vendor JR's did a great job. Thanks for the service.
- Wonderul Storage Option
     By A1KAPKY24OXBIE on 2007-07-11
This binder is perfect. Rather than a stack of baskets or a big bulky DVD holder, my entire collection is now stored in 4 easy to access, easy to move, binders that look more like books than DVD storage. I am very happy with this product.
- Notes on actual storage capacity
     By A25V1DIDDR32UI on 2008-05-31
So far I have been very pleased with this product. Just wanted to write a quick note on the realistic capacity for cd storage. If you are planning to insert the cd liner notes behind the cd, the binder will hold approximately 8-10 pages which translates into a storage capacity of 32-40 cds per binder. I ordered extra pages and found them totally unnecessary given that I inserted the liner notes behind my cds. The only need for extra pages is if you are not planning to insert your cd liner notes. Otherwise, just order the binders.
The binders also do feel like genuine leather and look exceptionally nice on display.
- great organizer
     By AK5Y43ZW2DNOV on 2008-03-04
I bought three of these albums about a year ago to help control the growing dvd collection that was taking over the living room. I put the kids' dvds in one of them, and used the other two for non-kid movies. The room looks less like blockbuster video and more like a living room again. My one complaint is that the dvd's fall out pretty easily if the album is not held upright, and it's no fun having a pile of dvd's to clean up (I'm sure it's not too good for the dvd's either!) This is probably the result of careless children rather than a design flaw. Overall, a wonderful product!
- Looks great on a shelf
     By A3OL34GWEYZVD7 on 2008-04-28
These binders are perfect for storing my photo CD files in my office in plain sight, which was my main purpose for buying them. I didn't want big, ugly CD folders sitting out on a shelf. I did have to purchase refill pages right away, as there are never enough in these types of binders. The metal frame around the binder label has come loose around the edges, but that would be the only negative thing. I bought four originally, and will be purchasing more soon.
- I wouldn't choose anything else!
     By AF06OQYABGS5N on 2008-04-26
I love these storage binders...I only started buying all my favorite DVD's recently but I have A LOT of CD's as well. The storage binder looks great and keeps my CD's/DVD's in good condition and off my floor, desk, or any other surface that they have been invading lately. I have already bought three, and I'm going to keep buying them until I catch up with my every growing CD/DVD collection! The binders are also good for storing games, without having to have a million game cases all over the room! I give them 5 stars and recommend them for everyone, I absolutely love them!
- I now have 9 of these, and won't stop anytime soon
     By A141IUB4JJPDB1 on 2008-10-31
The good:
They're durable. They look good. The little name placard is really convenient.
No more space consuming DVD cases or bulky, unappealing binders!
The not so good:
They don't come with enough pages! If you buy three of the binders, you'll need to buy at least one refill pack to fill the binder. And they really do over-charge for the refill pages.
Bottom Line: A bit pricey, but they sure look great!
- Awesome!!
     By A3HWEXROKQOG40 on 2008-01-13
These have to be the best CD/DVD holders out right now. I have an extensive DVD collection and I don't have to have a wall full of movies. These binders hide themselves in a eligant fasion while still staying very accessable. I highly recommend this product.
- Love These
     By AOF4XA2KE86R5 on 2008-01-14
I love these books. I've been using these to store all our cds and dvds for years. They are standing the test of time. They are look great and function perfectly.
- Awesome addition to the bookshelf
     By A23V7NKZLY2VV on 2008-02-05
This product is great! We purchased a bookshelf stereo system so we could get rid of the big stereo cabinet in our living room. These work great to store the CD's and the booklet that comes with the CD. The look great too!
- Awesome Space Saver
     By A1UQ2G48C74J91 on 2008-02-05
I agree with all the other 5 star reviews. I had over 275 DVDs that used up 4 shelves on my bookcase, and now with 8 binders, they fit all on one shelf and I can put all my CD-Roms, photo CDs, x-boxes games as well. Just ordered 2 more to fill in the empty space on the same shelf.
- We got our shelf space back!
     By A1JFLP927KUBSH on 2008-02-29
Received item very quickly and matched description. We have recovered some very valuable shelf space by using this product. The number of pages that come with the binder seem skimpy until you fill it up with dvds and covers.
