La Crosse Technology WS-7014CH-IT Wireless Weather Stationx$29.99
    (74 reviews)
Best Price: $74.95 $29.99
This stylish atomic clock and portable weather stations is widely popular due to its quality, accuracy and attractive appearance. The wireless home weather station features a newer, faster IT transmission time of every four seconds for outside weather. The weather forecaster can also read outside temperatures down to negative 39.8-degrees. Atomic time and date, as well as outside temperature, inside temperature, and inside humidity are all clearly displayed on the easy to read digital face. The weather station is made of plastic with a modern silver finish complemented by cherry finished panels for a sophisticated look! Assembly level/degree of difficulty: No Assembly Required. Aspiring meteorologists and will be thrilled with this La Crosse Technology wireless weather station. Ideal for darkrooms, greenhouses, or other environments that require a consistent temperature reading, the WS-7014CH records indoor temperature, humidity, and remote temperature as measured by the included TX37U-IT remote sensor. For those who need multiple temperature readings, the unit is compatible with up to three remote sensors, and displays the information in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. If gauging current temperature isn't enough to satisfy, the station also forecasts upcoming weather conditions based on changing air pressure, employing several user-friendly icons, such as clouds, raindrops, or the sun, in the display. The forecast is approximately 75 percent accurate for 12 to 20 hours. Like all La Crosse Technology products, the included clock and date indicator receive their readings from the U.S. atomic clock in Fort Collins, Colorado, ensuring that the time is always 100 percent accurate. In addition, the weather station stores both daily maximum and minimum temperatures in its memory. The remote sensor is accurate up to 330 feet away with no obstructions, and approximately 50 to 65 feet away if exterior or interior walls block the weather station. Other features include a 12- or 24-hour time mode and an air-pressure tendency arrow. The unit is comfortable either hanging on a wall or free standing and measures 3-1/2 by 5-1/2 by 1-1/4 inches (W x H x D). Both the display unit and remote require two AA batteries. Simple and inexpensive By A1YZDBXCAO3ZM2 on 2006-05-30
I bought this station about 6 months ago. It was very easy to set up, and has been working perfectly ever since. Having one reliable atomic clock in the house is useful, as all appliances drift somewhat, and so do mechanical watches. The wireless remote temperature sensor has also been working reliably. I just placed in under a bench on the deck, and it has survived so far (in the wet Seattle climate).
Also, the station has a memory for highest/lowest temperatures (one for the station, one for the remote sensor), which is nice when you want to know exactly how hot/cold it got last night.
I haven't been using the weather forecast much, so I won't comment on it.
I still haven't had to change the batteries (almost 6 months of use by now).
Altogether, I'm very happy with the purchase (less than $35), and would recommend this unit to anyone looking for an inexpensive atomic clock/temperature sensor combo.
Not bad for the money By ARFKILK1D3C6B on 2006-08-16
Purchased weather station from Amazon and is working fine. Here are some possibly useful tips for initial setup and operation. Pay attention to battery installation in the temperature sensor first, then the station second. For an initial test, leave the sensor and station in the same room to stabilize and monitor both temperatures for about 1 hour. Over that time, I observed mostly 0.5 degree difference in the two readings. This test checks normal operation and in my case the comparison was remarkably good.
My outside sensor is in a sheltered location and less than thirty feet from the station. The manual says up to 80 feet separation, but this is highly depended on the number of walls/floors and construction materials in the way. That is, don't count on the 80 foot separation distance.
Regular alkaline batteries for the station are fine. However, care must be exercised in sensor battery selection especially if you live in a cold winter area such as New England. Regular 1.5 volt alkaline or enhanced alkaline type batteries are not suited for prolonged cold outdoor use. However, definitely consider the newer 1.5 volt Lithium batteries that operate down to minus 40 degrees F for prolonged cold outdoor use. The only drawback is cost, but they are often on sale at national drug chains.
Getting the radio controlled time clock to operate properly can be tricky. Based on experience with other clocks, my best reception occurs with (1) location on the second floor (height), (2) display facing east/west (antenna direction) rather than north or south, and (3) location away from a TV, radio, or stereo (interference). Thunderstorms tend to disrupt sensor to station communication but operation eventually returns to normal. Station weather indicator is no worse than the New England weather forecasters.
A great product for the price! By A265J66ZZK49FN on 2006-03-24
I would recommend this for any price-conscience buyer who needs an outdoor themometer and an accurate indoor temp measurement.
The wireless capability allows me to place the indoor unit away from heat sources (i.e. chimney, kitchen, etc) to ensure an accurate reading indoors, as well as wireless distance flexability for outdoor sensor placement.
The only function emitted from this particular model is a meter for the level of humidity outdoors. It actually does have an indoor reading, but for whatever reason (probably cost) it is lacking the outdoor measurement.
Lastly, the unit has been very accurate predicting the upcoming weather, even here in Maine where the weather changes practically hourly! Overall, for the price point and accuracy, this is a 5 star unit in my opinion.
Mostly Sunny By A2O11UI9BCX0YN on 2006-02-21
Nice little weather station. Temps (indoor & out) humidity, date, and time work well. Forecast isn't the greatest-usually shows sunshine; in Michigan!
good product-bad information By A3P2HM8KXVGF1C on 2007-01-15
The weather station and remote sensor work very well, however, when you order the basic weather station, Amazon suggests ordering the wireless remote with the basic unit. When the product arrives you find the wireless remote is included with the base unit. If you're a dope like me, you'll assume that one remote is for indoors, and the other's for outdoors. This is not the case. The base unit reads indoor data and the wireless remote that comes with it goes outside. Guess I'll put the extra sensor on the other side of the house as the unit will gather info from two outside sources.
- Can't Imagine It Being Better - You Must Understand A Few Things Though...
     By A1C3BOKMM0WA95 on 2007-03-12
Mine works perfectly! My parents bought me this for Christmas because we've all enjoyed the one my dad got for his birthday two or three years ago. If you're having problems with yours, please keep the following in mind:
1) The forecast indicator does not tell you the exact conditions, just expected trends. Per the manual, the "Sunny" icon indicates that the weather is expected to improve (not that the weather will be sunny). An icon showing "Sun with Clouds" indicates that the weather is expected to be fair (not that the weather will be sunny with clouds). And the "Clouds with Rain" icon indicates that the weather is expected to get worse (not that the weather will be rainy).
2) Do not place the remote temperature sensor in direct sun, or you'll get a false high reading (ever noticed what your car exterior feels like after sitting out in the sun, even on a day where the temp is just 70°?). A shaded location works best.
3) The remote temperature sensor can't measure the effect of wind chill, so it will only tell you the real temp, not the "feels like" temp.
- What use the use of a Weather Station that doesn't know the temperature?!!!
     By A1TVZAJ2U0DU22 on 2007-02-12
Very easy to set up, and aesthetically pleasing, but the remote sensor is NOT accurate. I've hung the sensor in the sun, in the shade, and everywhere in between. If the sun is up AT ALL, then the sensor raises about 10 - 20 degrees. What is the point of having a weather station that doesn't properly report the temperature.
It also doesn't tell the correct day, date, or time. So once again...really useless.
Oh...and Amazon doesn't indicate that the unit comes equipped w/ a sensor, and it is not necessary to buy a separate one. Glad to see, from the other reviews, that I'm not the only one to have made this mistake.
- Not Fun To Program
     By A30VUIPRB00HQU on 2007-11-26
This product is a nightmare to program. Every step is time based. Were not talking minutes here folks, were talking seconds. You fail, it's back to the beginning. I found contradictions in the set up instructions and the pdf instructions on two critical steps. Never did get the second transmitter to be recognized despite many repeated attempts. No back light on display and if your eyesight is a bit off, it's very difficult to read. It would be better to have made this product at least twice it's actual size.
- A waste of money
     By A3F2G2JW637PE8 on 2007-05-03
The first one I bought didn't even work, I sent it back and they told me it was a bad unit so they sent me another one. That unit worked fine for 2 months and now, looses the outdoor temperature reading every 4-5 days. When I call them to report this ongoing problem they tell me to remove the batteries and wait 15 minutes and put them back in. Works fine for another few days.
There's not much that is accurate about this product. I wasted my money and I'm very disappointed in it.
Looking for a better more reliable weather station......
- Great purchase for the price
     By A2G3BA1CYKVJA1 on 2006-11-09
I have been using this for the past three months. If you follow the setup instructions, linking the remote senor is not a problem at all. Is pretty accurate. I would like to make a mention about the weather foercast icons. Reamamber people it is a FORECASTER. That is, it tries and predicts what it would be about 12 hours later. It is not what you will see outside your window that instant. It is about 70% correct. For the price I would say is a good purchase.
The downside is that the LCD panel has no back light and to change from degree F to Degree C, you have to go through a lot of settings.
- Great when it works
     By A3NB47Q1VOVZXW on 2007-04-24
After ordering this product I read reviews that the exterior transmitter worked only for a short period of time and that a replacement cost as much as the entire unit. Should have paid attention to the reviews and canceled the order. Mine lasted about 80 days. A piece of junk and waste of money.
- Nice - for the price
     By AWD26EFCKXYSF on 2006-03-13
All functions work well. Time/Date/Indoor temp/Outdoor temp. Only question might be the Forecast. It's not entirely accurate; however the manual explains it's not completely credible.
- Good but with problem
     By A34HZJ41LTSFFX on 2006-03-08
It's certainly a good price and it was delivered promptly...but I've had a problem getting the outside station to send teh right temperature. We've had another indoor/outdoor thermometer for years and it's accurately shown us temperatures but the new Lacrosse thermometer consistenly gives us a 5-7 degree higher reading for the outside temperature! Customer service put me through the paces of checking it out before saying they would send a replacement...about 2 weeks ago! Haven't heard from them since! Even though I indicated that I would wait to receive the replacement before sending back mine, in case they only sent part of the unit.
NOTE: they came through in the end and now I have the system up and running beautifully!
- LaCrosse termometer
     By A38ZYZTIXW5JE5 on 2006-03-13
We had a remote thermometer. Some of us live far enough North that the temp drops to -20deg.. This thermometer stops reading at that temp. When I ask what could be done they said we were on our own .don't bother with them there not worth it.
- Clear display - remote sensor accuracy is a question
     By A2US0QBGZ6BIMB on 2007-01-11
This was purchased to replace an old Radio Shack indoor/outdoor weather station that is slowly giving up the ghost. Since the old weather station is still working I decided to leave both up and compare. The old one uses a simple wire sensor that you run out the window. While the LaCrosse and the old station agree on inside temperatures (within a degree) and barometric pressure, the outside is presenting more of a challenge. The LaCrosse is always three or four degrees warmer (at least in cold weather). I attibute this to the fact that the wired sensor can be easily placed away from the heat emitting windows while the LaCrosse remote is more of a challenge to mount away from the windows, especially in an apartment building.
This mounting problem aside the unit is very easy to read and is much better then the comaparable Ohio Scientific unit I also have.

The item works well, shipped and was received on time.
- Excellent product for the price
     By AQXRN73TZJVCO on 2006-03-12
We've found this weather station to be accurate, attractive and just a nice little gadget to have around. The indoor and outdoor temps are always correct within a degree or two, and once you put the batteries in, it practically sets itself using the signal from the US atomic clock. It would be nice if the display was backlit so I could see it in the dark, and it was a bit smaller that I expected (should have looked more closely at the dimensions, I guess). As for complaints about forecast accuracy, this unit is just as good as the guy on channel 5, and that's without whatever Accu-Nex-Sat-Rad technology they employ.

Easy to set. Very well written directions, very clear. Fun to have around.
- Great Piece Of Equipment
     By ALW0SEIJBJM8J on 2006-11-12
Very easy to setup, just put in the batteries. Weather indicator is very accurate. Lots of fun to use. Just go buy one.
- Pretty sold and overall accurate
     By A2HC0UB2X05G6A on 2007-05-27
Placement and nearby interference may hinder the temp accuracy outdoors, but in general this tends to be a better predictor than the local weather forecast or even the weather channel. It tends to give you about a 24-48 hour look-ahead on its weather section. Temps are good, indoor temp and humidity is soundly accurate. Overall, a great piece.
- Disappointing Experience and product
     By A1AZIP21HF6KXR on 2007-11-13
Received the unit and it did not work out of the package. It will not recieve the signal from the remote unit.
Called La Crosse Tech support and left two messages in two days with no return call.
Called and went down a different call queue to get to a human who certainly did not enjoy her job. Got an RMA so we'll see how the story ends. I would not recommend La Crosse products if your think you will require support.
- GREAT LITTLE WEATHER STATION
     By A1HSINZQCH5WMJ on 2006-03-11
After putting in the batteries the weather station came to life with great accuracy. Highly recommended !!!
- Wireless weather station

I enjoy being able to see the outside temperature in several selected locations. I also am pleased with the automatic time setting and its accuracy.
- Great lil' clock for the price
     By A16LI22IL2E9V7 on 2006-12-02
Pros:
Easy setup, atomic clock seems to function accurately along with most other functions, large digital read-out.
Cons:
Temperature sensor not very accurate, weather forecast not very accurate (but that is what the news and online weather forecast is for)
I have been using this Wireless weather station for the past few months and I must say that I have really enjoyed using it. It was pretty self explanatory and a breeze to setup and get going once you figured out the basic button functions from the user manual.
I have given this clock 4 stars for one reason and that is because the temperature sensor is not very accurate.
- I`m very satisfied about this product.

No comment. Everything is OK !

- Works very well
     By AMWLZWCIWGGM0 on 2007-07-03
This wireless Weather Station is a very nice unit. It looks good and works fine. The only drawback is that the screen is a little small so you must walk up to it to read it as opposed to other units from La Crosse which are larger displays but more expensive.
- Works for 3 days
     By A1C3IVZW7MAG9C on 2007-07-07
This thing sucks. It only tells you the temp inside just like most of these things. Not worth the buy unless it never rains or snows outside in your area.
- beware extra remote
     By A1JQ51HXVOR2T0 on 2007-11-07
This is the second unit I have purchased. The first burned out when I put replacement batteries in backwards. Be careful. We really missed not having it. The extra remote listed by amazon as better together will not work with this unit. The TX6U is for use with an older 433MHz unit.
- Great price...easy set-up
     By A1JL6WBTCKCTVS on 2007-11-26
This is a great product that is easy to set-up and get running inside of five minutes. The wireless technology is great as my last outside thermometer required me to drill a hole in my wall. Very accurate and easy to read.
