Pokemon Heroes: The Moviex$10.28
    (63 reviews)
Best Price: $19.99 $10.28
The fifth installment of the phenomenally successful POKEMON series takes place in a mysterious city on water. Set against a baffling maze of canals and alleyways, Ash, Pikachu, the rest of the gang take on a slick new pair of thieves in this glamorous, high-stakes adventure story. The film introduces two new Pokemon characters -- Latias and Latios, who possess strong psychic abilities and the power to disguise themselves as humans!
The fifth Pokémon movie takes Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu to the city of Altomare, a thinly disguised Venice guarded by the shape-shifting Pokémon Latios and Latias. Two new agents of Giovanni's, Annie and Oakley, are out to capture these rare Pokémon--reducing Team Rocket to the role of spectators. Latios and Latias are linked to an elaborate, computer-generated mechanism that defends the city, controls the tides and brings fossil Pokémon back to life. Ash and Pikachu foil the evil plan with some help from Misty, Brock, and Bianca, a girl who lives in Altomare with her kindly grandfather. The contrived story suggests that as far as features are concerned, the Pokémon franchise has pretty much run dry. (The film earned less than $1 million in its U.S. theatrical release.) Extras include a Camp Pikachu short and a Pokémon Heroes trivia game. (Rated G, all ages: minor cartoon violence) --Charles Solomon

Possibly the best Pokemon movie ever dubbed By A1YSI93GVIVPPT on 2003-05-18
I just saw this a few hours ago, and I must say that it was spectacular. Pokemon Heroes: Latias and Latios begins with a couple of attractive master thieves stealing a book from some sort of library, and in James Bond fashion, they leap through the window, swing down a grappling hook's rope, jump in their sweet-looking car, and hit the road at high speeds. But the cool part came when they drove off the side of a large cliff and as they plummeted downwards, their car transforms(very detailed, but quickly) into a flying machine as they zoom off into the night sky. The movie has tons of these sort of slick action scenes, which is what moves the movie forward. The story is okay, for a Pokemon movie, and isn't too predictable. Ash and Co. arrive at a beautiful city called AltoMare(which resembles Venice, complete with water canals and gondolas). After participating in a water race, Ash runs into a strange girl, and the thieves who want to kidnap her for some reason, which leads to what is the first of many chase scenes in the movie. The animation is far more advanced than the previous movies, with LOTS of computer generated imagery, and some SFX shots that are Matrix-esque. This movie is a very nice piece of eye-candy indeed(There's a scene where a flood starts to brew from afar, which sent a chill up my back). The traditional hand-drawn animation is good too, though there are many times where the characters seem to be drawn with black outlines that are a little too big. Thankfully Miramax left in the original orchestrated music, which is beautiful, mixing traditional anime orchestral pieces with Italian music. Heck, they even left in a JAPANESE song during a certain part of the movie! The movie begins with the same 'World of Pokemon' segment seen in many other places, and again they skip the mini-movie which will probably be on the DVD. Anyways, the voice acting is okay, and they didn't really change much of the movie in this English version. The opening and ending sequences has some american songs though, but they're okay. The only gripe I had was with Latias and Latios' voices; they're kinda annoying, and not what I expected. Either way, if you're a Pokemon fan, you should definitely find a theater that's playing this film and see this movie. The semi-large audience at the screening actually clapped at the film's finale, and they even stayed for the end credits!(Which has a cameo appearance of a certain Pokemon collector from the second Pokemon film) It's one of the best, and possibly the most satisfying Pokemon movie made. Besides, the movie's ending is really cute. ;)
WOW! By A3T3URUTV0CBLE on 2003-10-18
This movie was quite a pleasent suprise! I have known about Pokemon ever since it started here in the U.S. I didnt really like it a ton, but this movie made me! It was just so great! The storyline was great, the picture was great....it was just overal wonderful! My Mom (I just turned 14) even said it was good (TRUST ME-That means something)!I really think the movie would've done a lot better if there were more advertisments. I found out about it by literally going onto a theater site, and seeing what was playing. Also the fact that it was only a limited release movie, that people didnt know about it. But, I hope there are commercials and previews for the Video and DVD Release. That will help a lot! Thanks so much for taking time to read my review! :)
DVD Release BEFORE Christmas? By A3T3URUTV0CBLE on 2003-11-29
Ok. First off, I am a true die-hard Pokemon fan. I have loved it since I was 9. I have basically all the games, and seen all the shows. You may have noticed that there were absolutely NO advertisements when Pokemon Heroes was out in theatres. I truly think it would've done better if people knew about it! I am also disappointed at the time the movie is coming out. It was originally in the middle of December, but they decided to change it to mid January. It would've been a huge seller for the Chrismtas Season. Well, for the movie, I thought it was awesome. The storyline was great, graphics were sensational, dubbing was better than usual, everything was better (For more info, refer to my review from a few months ago)! I definitaly recommend this to every Pokemon fan out there! Thanks for taking time to read my review! *Jonathan
What An Amazing Movie! By A28HWKSWR0DPF7 on 2003-12-11
I was pretty excited for the 5th installment of the Pokemon films when it hit theaters in the US and boy was the wait worth it! This movie is awesome, the animation is detailed and beautiful, once again they use a lot of computer animation but it's blended much better than in Pokemon 4ever (the 4th film). The new characters are fun and the movie introduces you to a whole new side of Ash, because he gets a crush! How cute, huh? The story line is great, a little sad at the end, but what's a movie without strong emotions? I definatley think this movie deserves more than 5 out of 5 stars, more like 10 out of 5. It's my all time favorite and I am SO psyched for it to come out on DVD. So, if you're a diehard Pokemon fan and own all the other movies, BUY THIS ONE, and if you're a Pokemon fan all the same but don't own any of the movies, this is the one to own!
This is my favorite Pokemon movie,. By on 2003-12-31
I love how cute Latias and Latios are. Latias is very fond of Ash just like Chikorita. Ash seems to like a girl but she turns out to be Latias. But the real girl must like him because she drew a picture of him, he gets kissed on the cheek at the end ios it Latias or the girl??? This movie is so good I've already watched it like 509 times I havc the Jap version with English Shubtitles. I can't wait to watch it in English.
- Great for all ages!

Sick of baby shows like "Fairly Oddparents","Recess" and "Rugrats:all Growed Up?" Well,"Pokemon" is a wonderful alternative to the usual baby shows that are shown on TV these days.
Like "Hamtaro" and "Digimon",the "Pokemon" series offers a wide variety of plots and excitement."Pokemon Heroes" is a great example of a wonderful family show that the whole family can sit down and watch.Breathtaking scenery,an original plot and well-developed characters make this movie worth watching over and over again.
Forget the usual,boring,cheaply-animated garbage like "Teamo Supremo"," "Codenames:Kids Next Door",and the very fakey "Robot Jones"-watch "Pokemon Heroes" instead and see everyone's faces light up with joy!
- Despite Critics Reviews, this film is very enjoyable.
     By A2PI09IT7KTWVI on 2003-05-21
As one who owns the Japanese version of "Guardians of Altomere", I must say that I was very pleased with this production. Animation quality is right up there with the more "critically acclaimed" animated films, and while this film is no "Spirited Away", this film DOES show significant improvements over the previous films in this genre. The story is somewhat original, however, does tend to fall into the previous traps that the previous 4 have. While Ash is the centerpiece of the series and the films, less emphasis needs to be put on this character and more emphasis on the other companion characters in the series. Aside from some of the minor shortcomings in the story, the animation and the music in this film make up for this. All in all, this is a film that can be enjoyed by FAMILIES and fans young and old. A well done and very well deserving piece of work.
- A great movie for everyone!
     By A3BAHS1EQ8QLCP on 2004-01-22
What a awesome movie!! The computer graphics were great and the music was beautiful, thankfully they kept the original Japanese soundtrack in, instead of the rather irritating english attempt. The English opening and ending credit songs were just remixes of the songs from the Pokemon 3 soundtrack. The characters were very well done and enjoyable, only problem is....not enought Jessie, James and Meowth! They were harldy even in the film! But the villans, Annie and Oakley, were very entertaining, funny and evil!! Again, the computer graphics were amazing!! A big improvement over Pokemon 4. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous too!! And if you look very closely at some of the bricks and panels on the bridges and homes, you can see drawings of MewTwo, Lugia, Entei, and Celebi! The animation was very good, only problem was sometimes the picture looked a little greenish and not as sharp and clear as the previous movies. The dvd also has some nice extras, such as location scouting in Venice, a quiz on the movie, and the animation stages that were used for the computerized sequences. The 2 main pokemon, Latias and Latios, were very well animated and so cute!! This is one of the best Pokemon made so far! Something everyone can enjoy!!
- Best Pokemon Movie Ever!

Whoever said that the original is always best was wrong! Pokemon 5- Pokemon Heros Latias and Latios is definitely the best pokemon move by far! It features Latias and Latios, who are by far the cutest legendary pokemon! This is definitely a great movie, especially if you love pokemon! My little brother, who usually hates pokemon, even loved it! I definitely think it was worth buying. Money well spent.
- Wow!

This is definately my new favorite Movie,as well as Spirited Away! They drew everything great and the storyline just makes you happy. Even the sad part makes you happy,in a way. Also its more proof Misty likes Ash. Latias kisses Ash,and Misty gets all pale-like. It starts out when Ash,Misty, and Brock find out about Legendary Pokemon Latias and Latios. Ash rescues a girl from Team Rocket members Annie and Oakley, and finds out she's really Latias, disguised as her friend Bianca. Later,Ash and the gang find out that Annie and Oakley are after the Souldew,a stone that could destroy the whole city. Latias,Latios,Ash,Misty,Brock,Bianca, and Bianca's grandfather Lorenzo have to stop them before the city is destroyed and Latios is forced to give his life.
- Seriously......the movie was good.
     By A2ZU9AA0KCZEIO on 2003-11-11
Take my word for it. It was a great movie. Actually all the Pokemon movies were great. What happened a few years ago to Pokemon was that many people (especially adults) didn't quite understand a few of the earlier movies released a few years ago. This movie was really well developed even for a non-Pokemon audience to understand. I rate it 5 stars for a good reason. I'm sure this movie will satisfy ALL audiences.

This is a great movie. I have been a pokemon fan since I was about 7. This pokemon movie is probably the best when It comes to action that I have seen yet. It has a good story line and even a little sadness at the end. If you buy the DVD only will you get the cards and the poster. I would reccomend this to any pokemon fan.
- Great Movie!

Pokemon 5- Pokemon Heros Latios and Latias is a great movie that features the super-cute new pokemon Latios and Latias. I rented it recently and I thought it was awesome. My brother and I were totally blown away by the 3-D backgrounds and stellar animation. My brother thought it was too short (it's 71 minutes long), but it's still a great movie. (You'll want to watch the animations durning the credits to uncover what really happened to Latios, though).

Pokemon has always been one of my favorite animes, the reason is because it gives the audience an upbeat and esthusiastic sensation that's hard to forget. Some people may find the TV series a bit boring, but I can guarantee you, Pokemon's 5th movie, Pokemon Heroes, is no where close to boredom since 80% of the time is filled with suspense and action. The movie does not emphasize on the "one person who saves all" perspective, which means Ash, to my surprise, does not play the major role here; his significance in this movie is far less than that of Latias and Latios, the two legendary guardians that protect the city that looks almost identical to Venice. Unlike Pokemon 2000, Ash does not takes his enemies out with Pikachu, his courage and bravery in this movie cannot prevent the destruction of the city. This reflects that the word "heroes" in Pokemon Heroes does not refer to Ash and his gang, rather, it focuses on Latias and Latios' sacrificial actions (especially Latios). Like all other Pokemon movies, the graphics are beautifully drawn and rendered. When Ash is running away with Latias in street alleys near the beginning of the movie, the first person view of the scenary mixed with 3D effect is truly breathtaking! It is comparable to Miyazaki's Spirited Away's 3D rendering, and to some degree, better than that of Spirited Away's. The background musics give the audience a sensation of Venice's (though the city is not Venice in the movie), and musics can be heard most of the time throughout the anime, which do not create boredom because they match up with the atmosphere perfectly. Pokemon Heroes is truly an amazing film, anyone who loves Pokemon animes should watch it, and anyone who's bored of the protagonist saving the entire world should watch this for a change, it will not give you disappointment!
- Delightful surprise
     By A2E3IUBWKWXC68 on 2003-08-22
This picture was sharp, fast paced, quite funny and touching. It also looked fantastic. It had a wonderful, ambiguous ending whose meaning my wife and I debated for a while. It's not Miyazaki, but then what is?My kids, who are pretty discerning (they love Miyazaki), think it's the best of the Pokemon feature films. I'm getting sick of big name celebrities doing voice acting for animation--it takes me right out of most animation. Having the TV folks do the voices is the right decision. Not quite sure why there was a theatrical release, since the only marketing support was tiny newpaper ads. Too bad--I think a lot of people would have liked this one...Well, they will on video.

I am a very very very huge fan of Pokemon, ever since it hit the US. I'm a senior in highschool, now and I'm still a big fan! Anyway, I was soooooo angry when I couldn't see this in theaters! I hope Miramax will come to their senses and put the next movie in a lot more theaters this time, they'd make a lot more money if they did! This movie is my favorite and the best movie I have ever seen!! I love it!!!Pokemon is still #1!!!!!!And I do mean the BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!
- Good One! Right up there!
     By on 2004-01-24
I bought this one yesterday, and I liked it as much (if not more)than Pokemon 2000. Great CGI & story. Unfortunately there's no audio commentary track this time! The Camp Pikachu short is cute, but no better or worse than any of the other shorts. They're mostly eye candy anyway, and not really plot-heavy. Why is Camp Pikachu in widescreen, and the main feature is not??!! Aargh, I hate formatted & pan-and-scan films! The DVD/VHS comes with 2 promo cards (guess who of!). Pokemon is still alive & well, this film is proof. I'm on a master quest, I'm on my way to victory! Over 350 Pokemon now, and the TV show is still "To Be Continued" after 6 seasons, with more on the way! Ignore the naysayers and check this one out, it's worth watching.

Wow! I have been a Pokemon fan since it first hit the USA. I am in 8th grade and still a huge fan. This movie is probably my favorite of the Pokemon series. It has awesome effects, and has some moments that may even make you a little watery-eyed. My only complaint is how Team Rocket got such a low amount of screentime. It seems like after Pokemon 2000 they just keep shrinking and shrinking their roles.
- Another entertaining movie
     By A3NBKBLWZN0REF on 2004-03-21
I was a little skeptical when I picked up this DVD (after being a little disappointed by the 4th movie), but I was pleasantly surprised by this movie! "Pokemon Heroes" follows the typical 'fun things happen, but then the ending is bittersweet' plot established back in the first movie, but I'm not complaining. Latios and Latias are some of the most personable legendaries that I've seen so far. The story is straightforward, easy to follow, and Ash&Co's involvement is not quite as horribly forced as in previous movies.Unlike the earlier movies, the CG elements are not always totally obvious. (Some are, some aren't. Better than the previous movie, at least!) The music fits the scenes well. The new characters were likeable, for the most part. Annie and Oakley made interesting and entertaining additions to Team Rocket. The DVD also includes the "Camp Pikachu" short, which was one of the better mini-movies, and several addition features. The best of these was "animation stages", which let you really get a good feeling of how the movie was put together. Scouting videos from Venice are also on the DVD, and are a nice touch! All in all, if you're a fan of Pokemon (or have someone in the family who is), I highly recommend this DVD!
- Awesome!!!

The best pokemon movie ever!!!! I love it so much sometimes I even pretend I,m Latios or Latias. I also caught them in my Pokemon Ruby Version!!
- pokemon heroes best movie

My name is Dessy I loved this movie it is cool like the other ones it was great but at the end was sad because Latios gave up his life to save the world from the big wave and left Latias but it was nice when there were 2 more of them but I wonder if that was Latias or bionca who kissed ash on the cheek and gave him the picture. Latias and Latios can change into people.I have it already and it is great I think ya'll should get it and it comes with two pokemon cards latios and latias.
- Pokemon Heroes Heartwarming Tale
     By A1PCWOBW6WLZWC on 2004-01-23
This is by far the best Pokemon movie available. This is a movie that children and parents alike will enjoy sharing together. The mysterious Pokemon Latios and Latias will surely warm your heart. This movie played more on friendship than on pokemon battles and was a lovely tale for all. Highly reccommended! Plus Latias loves Ash just as much as Chikorita does, so you know you're in store for some humor!

- Pokemon does it again!
     By AMZTZXXV0FBY on 2004-05-14
This is one of my most favourite movies ever! Cool CG animation, thrilling story and brilliant characters, Pokemon Heroes is the best Pokemon movie ever! Although this fifth instalment is also the shortest in the films (1 hour and 11 minutes is no exception), I still like it! The story goes like this - It begins when two slick theives, Annie and Oakley, stole a book that tells them about the water city Alto Mare, the sibling Pokemon Latios & Latias (said to have strong psychic abilities and the power to disguise themselves as humans) and the mystical jewel, the Soul Dew, said to have contain an awesome - and dangerous power, if it fell into the wrong hands. Fast forward to present day Alto Mare, where Ash and Misty compete in the annual water race competition, the Tour De Alto Mare. After the race (which Misty won), Ash finds a new interest, a mysterious girl (whom he doesn't know is Latias). After an encounter with Annie and Oakley, Ash and Pikachu follow human-disguised Latias to a secret garden, where he meets Latios, Bianca (the human form of Latias disguise) and Lorenzo, her grandfather. Lorenzo explains the legend of Alto Mare to Ash, unaware that they are being watched by the two thieves... (Sorry I can't give you any more details, that's a MAJOR SPOILER!) Anyway, this is the best Pokemon movie I've ever saw this year!
- BEST MOVIE OF THE CENTURY

This is a movie to remember. This is so good. If you did not like it, then some things wrong with you.
- A good movie a must have.
     By A3R98Z5NGN69JT on 2004-07-14
I love this movie. It even has a little short in the begining to tell adults what pokemon is about. So adults don't get counfused when they are stuck watching it with their kids. And the relationship between Latios and Latias is so cute. It had a couple of parts that made me laugh. But in the end Latios dies and I cried. Latias holds her big brother's hand. And has to let go. And Latias watches as her big brother dissaper before her eyes. But it has a happy ending. You can see Latios and Latias flying across the city with their farther.
- Good movie bad ending
     By A1T4KKG4E5W5VE on 2005-03-09
I saw this movie last year. Ash Misty and Brock are back. The are in France. Unlike the other Pokemon movies Heroes and Jirachi do not start with Pokemon battles.
Unlike in the other movies the two main pokemon do not have and dialogue. The bad things about this movie is is lacks some of the tense action that the previous ones had. Another major draw back is the main members of Team Rocket Jesse James and Mewoth have now interaction with any body but eahcv other. Making the small portion of the movie they are in ver dull and boring.
The giant tidal wave at the end I thought was cool. Another thing is one of the two pokemon either Latios or Latias has the power to shift into human from.
Remind me of the shape shift T-1000 in terminator 2. Another disadvatange and misty who is in every Movie but Jirachi and Brook who is in ever Move except Pokemon 2Tthosuands. Have a slight smaller ruller in this one than the did in the previous ones.
Like all the other pokemon movies the complete main Theme song for it is played. The theme song is different at the binging of each moving depend on which season it is taking place for.
To be honest I think the change of theme song for each new season is stupid. I makes it hard for me to rememeber the lyrics. I have lyric memorized to the first season 2 the abriged version used on Television.
We meet to new members of team rocket. To girls called anne and Okly. There and okay duo. There not as smart and trecherous as Jessiea and James are.
This and Jirchia should be fine if you are 7 or older. The other movies I think are to intense for people under 11.
The only other bad thing about this is one of the main Pokemon ends up die which I did not think was appropirate because Pokemon never died in the movies except for Celbi.
- Very good indeed.
     By on 2005-05-15
This is a good Pokemon movie, my favorite besides Destiny Deoxys and Pokemon 2000.
The plot starts out when Ash and the group travel to a city named Altomare. That means "high seas," and Ash will learn about that later.
Misty and Ash take part in the Tour De' Altomare, a race in the canals of the city (heavily based off of Venice). The legendary Pokemon Latias appears when Ash is about to fall into a building after tripping, and she saves him by bumping him back to his pod. Latios and Latias both help Ash, but take a wrong turn as they feel something from him.
Misty wins, and wins a medallion that shows Latios, latias, and the Soul Dew, a special jewel that protects Altomare. They see them on the statues and then go to get some ice cream.
Ash is drawn away though by Pikachu, who wants a drink from the fountain that a trainer and her Vaporeon are drinking from. But when he arrives, there's no trainer there. But then a girl with red hair turns it on and Pikachu enjoys the drink. Ash comes up and the girl inspects him closely, running away short after that, whcih of course results in a confusing for poor Ash.
Later, he hears that the girl is in trouble and goes to save her. An Araidos (spider Pokemon) and Espeon (psychic cat Pokemon) are hurting her, but as she is screaming, no sound comes out. Two teenage girls, Annie and Oakley, are terrorizing her.
Ash frees her and she runs away with him, but when she brings him back to the ice cream shop, she is nowhere to be found.
They go to the museum and look at the DMA (defense Mechanism of Altomare) and Ash looks up and sees the same girl painting, and chases her as she heads out. She says that she doesn't know him and runs away, and gets away. But then Ash sees the same girl on the bridge, and follows her into a wall in the greenhouse.
They then come to a garden called the Secret Garden, and Ash follows her to a swing. But these intruder things start twirling around and a tidal wave comes at Ash and Pikachu, hitting Pikachu severly. But when the thing rushes toward Ash again, the girl rushes in front of him, and the thing reveals itself to be Latios, the legendary dragon that protects Altomare.
An exact copy of the girl holding her arms out walks in. She asks what are they doing with Latios. Ash says that he just followed the other girl here, and the copy says for Latios to get them. But then the guy that showed then around the museum appears and asks if Latias wants to play with her new frieds. The girl nods and takes Ash to a swing, where she reveals herself to be Latias, the other legendary dragon of Altomare. She can shapeshift into anything she desires.
They play for a little while, then Ash goes back to the hotel he is sleeping in. Annie and Oakley appear at night when Latias and Latios are sleeping, and try to capture them. Latios defends his sister and gets captured, but tells Latias to escape and find Ash.
Latias appears and shapeshifts into the other girl, Bianca. She tells Ash what's wrong by sightsharing, another power they have to see through the other's eyes. Latios has been captured and taken to the DMA where he is being hurt and used to power it. The DMA has the power to destroy the entire world.
The sightsharing stops and Oakley orders the city to go on citywide lockdown, so that no one can get to her. She orders the fossils of Aerodactyl and Kabutops to get Latias and Ash, and they get beaten by Latias.
They arrive at the DMA and try to get Latios, while Ash tears apart the web that Bianca and Lorenzo, the guy that showed them around the museum, apart.
The Soul Dew is resting in the DMA, and it is getting blaker by the second. They succesfully pull Latios out of the rings and the control panel stops working. But a giant tidal wave comes and Latias and Latios have to fuse their strongest attack, Luster Purge, together to destroy the wave. They succed, but Latios dies and Latais is sent away. A large light goes up to heaven as Latios dies.
Later, they find Latias and she is fully recovered. Nice selection of songs at the end. There are three shapes at the end, which reveal themselves as Latias, Latios, and Latios Sr.
I liked the movie alot!
