Best Price: $15.99 $11.87
May Be Used With Wood Chunks Or Charcoal Durable Aluminized Steel Holders Make Indirect Cooking Convenient For Use On 22-1/2-In. Kettles Pair Of Holders Fill these briquet holders with charcoal or wood chunks when using the indirect cooking method on your 22-1/2-In. kettle grill. Made of durable aluminized steel to last for years to come.
Indirect cooking is the method of choice for larger cuts of meat such as ribs, roasts, whole chickens, or delicate foods like some types of fish. However, arranging hot coals evenly around the outside of a grill can prove messy, difficult, and even dangerous. This pair of fuel holders solves the problem by holding charcoal or wood chunks firmly in place, allowing you to place a pan in the center of the grill to capture drippings and prevent flare-ups. Heat from the two holders rises, reflects off the inside of the grill, and cooks slowly and evenly from all sides, much like a convection oven but with the improved texture and flavor of barbecue. Made from aluminized steel for exceptional durability, these fuel holders fit 22-1/2-inch kettle-style grills, including Weber’s One Touch and Master Touch series. --Mary Park

Gets the job done By A1E8G5F0ONTMQ1 on 2005-07-07
Barbecue is good but controlling the heat from charcoals can be tricky. I've been trying to master the art for years, and with this product it makes it a lot easier to indirectly cook larger portions of meat. Also helps to controll the range of cooking you desire, on one side of the grill you can have less charcoal burning for things like hot dogs, and thinner portions of meat, that don't require intense heat, and on the other end you can put more charcoals for things like chicken breasts and steak. Has a suffiecient capacity but could hold more and is why I gave it 4 stars. Other than that I love the fuel holders it makes placement and clean-up of charcoal a breeze and it gets the job done.
These work for when you need them... By A2KUPH96YRYLJZ on 2006-01-28
If you need to do indirect cooking, or you want to cook various kinds of food that require different temperatures (veggies and meat), then these are great for creating different heat zones in your grill. Other than that, the only other thing they're good for is keeping your charcoal in one place if you push the two units together into the center or side of your grill.
I like these more than wire-framed models because these seem to direct more heat upwards, instead of letting it radiate out to the sides.
perfect for indirect grilling By ATLA5CJH0ZZHP on 2007-05-26
I was reluctant to purchase these charcoal holders at first, mainly due to the cost and fear they would be cheaply constructed. Up to now I have been using inexpensive wire holders that are functional but not great. I was very pleasantly surprised when I purchased these Weber basket charcoal holders. They are solidly built, large in size (designed for 22-1/2" grills), and well worth the cost. Charcoal seems to heat up more rapidly in them, ash drops easily from the bottom, and you can empty the baskets easily after the coals have cooled. There is plenty of space between the baskets to put a foil pan with water to keep foods moist during indirect cooking.
If you like to barbecue foods by the indirect method, these basket charcoal holders are perfect. I would buy them again in a second (although they will probably last for a very long time).
Makes charcoal organization easier By A22TD4U8PCA4N4 on 2005-08-31
My neighbor has the "Performer" from Weber which I believe comes stock with these. He uses them all the time for indirect cooking so I figured they would come in handy for my 7 dollar Weber kettle tri-wheel special. They have worked out great so far. The price is a little much for just two pieces of metal, but it really takes the pain out of organizing two piles of briquets on each side of the grill.
a great accessory By A18OL1IJXGFF94 on 2007-06-24
I use these every time I grill food. I often do indirect cooking (pork ribs come out perfect at 300 degrees for 2.5 hours) and they allow you to fine-tune the temperature under the meat when necessary without fumbling with loose coals. Have had no trouble with melting, warping, or rusting over the course of a year.
- Absolute Necessity for the Weber
     By AKB36C2NG2VH6 on 2007-08-23
These little devices are terrific! They keep the charcoal where it needs to be for the Indirect method and leave plenty of room for a drip pan in between. But even better, I often place them together when doing the Direct method to keep the charcoal confined to a more central location. That means I can use less charcoal and get concentrated heat when grilling just a couple of steaks or patties or veggies - using my large weber as if it were a small one. These are well worth the price!
- Not necessary but great nonetheless
     By A2U7WD8C49I8JE on 2007-08-13
The fuel holders really aren't necessary because you can just push the charcoal to the sides or around the grate. But the upside is that they keep the charcoal stacked tighter for indirect cooking which gives you more cooking space. The holders themselves are larger than they look in the picture and each one can hold well over 25+ briquettes. Also you can light the charcoal in the holders if you like. They stack for easy storage and are quite sturdy.

If you own a Weber grill and plan on cooking anything that requires indirect heat, you need this product.
- Save ur charcoal
     By A1SLFPWNODB99V on 2007-04-11
I've had mine for close to a year. They're dirty as hell, but they're still working great for me. They've held together better than I expected as well.
These holders help make the cooking go faster and help you use less charcoal by keeping the coals close to the grate.
You can fit three 1/2 lb burgers comfortably over each one of these, and they leave a largish-chicken-sized area in the middle of the grill clear for indirect cooking.
Best of all is that when you're done, you'll have coals left over. Just close any bottom vents and put the cover on the grill. Your charcoal will soon die out, and you can reuse them the next time you grill. Just lift 'em out and dump the coals into ur favorite charcoal starter. By doing this I've saved as much money on charcoal as I spent on these.
- Nice product to have with your grill

This is a very cool product that I use a lot when I do my BBQ. I highly recommend this when you need to do slow cooking. It keeps the charcoals organized.

- Great for Indirect cooking
     By on 2007-01-03
I am very happy with my recent purchase of this item. It makes setting up the grill for indirect cooking easy. Also makes grill clean up a breez as you just remove the fuel holders and throw the old charcol away. No more need to lift the grill over the trash can.
- One of the greatest products made for your grill
     By A3Q8SM6PADP1C on 2007-05-28
Absolutely fantastic. I don't grill ANYTHING without them. I can grill items that need direct heat right over them, and items that do better with indirect heat in the middle of the grill. Simply fantastic.
- Wonderful Product
     By A27TL2VXDQNGCP on 2007-10-05
I own and use daily the Weber Performer.
I've built and used many coal holders since they
more efficiently burn the coals. They don't fall
through before turning to ash. So far I always
come back to the weber built holders. They hold
exactly the correct amount of coals for any
indirect cooking.
Starting with about 25 coals and adding 5-6 coals
per hour, you can maintain 250F forever using a small
water pan over the 1 coal holder (I only use 1 at a time)
Makes the best ribs and/or chicken ever and can be
used for almost anything. I also have a WSM and seldom
need to fire it up unless I want to to brisket or pork
butt on an overnight cook.

I cook a lot by indirect heat, these do exactly what I need, easy to fill and empty.
Since original review I purchased another set for son. Also the weber roast rack and cover for 22.5 grill. Great products.
- Heat me up!
     By A2X61KKXXR6WNP on 2007-12-26
A set of these is included with the Weber Performer grill.
They do a great job of holding the coals at just the right depth. They allow starting all the coals together, then separating them for indirect cooking in the center of the grill. Usually I put my two together in the center and leave them there, using the edges of the grill for items that I don't want to put over the direct heat of the coals.
One thing to look out for is excessive build-up of little charcoal bits (like those found on the bottom of the charcoal bag) and old ash. Too much of that and the airflow will be reduced to the point where the charcoal may not light. It is pretty easy to grab them with the tongs before starting and shake them. This makes any loose ash fall out of them and will help keep the air channels clear for the fire.
- Very Hot
     By A1U6XG3OMP5S62 on 2007-12-30
I have had Weber grills most of my adult life and can't be without one. I cook mostly with the indirect method. In the past I have used the (2) wire rack brackets to keep the charcoal along the side of the kettle and works great. I tried the new basket type and they also work great, but man do they burn hotter. 14lb.Turkeys cook a good 45-60 minutes faster and you don't have to reload the charcoal. You had better cover with aluminum foil right off the get-go or it gets to brown. This is probably because the charcoal sets up higher when the baskets are used and the airflow causes the charcoal to burn hotter. I recommend them but it takes some getting used to. Don't forget that meat thermometer.

- saves coals!
     By A224QI0DSY1IB on 2007-11-06
I always wanted to try the baskets for my Weber but could never find them in the stores. I finally bought them on Amazon. I used to bank the coals along the side of the grill for indirect cooking. Well, I tried these babies out on cut up chicken and the difference is amazing. Better heat, chicken is cooked very nicely on both sides because the coals stay 10X hotter than banking them on the side. When I took the chicken off the coals they were still hot enough to cook another chicken and not add any coals.
- I love 'em
     By ANWSMCNZ0U2PC on 2007-11-14
These work great for anything that you'd normally bake. I cook two whole chickens in an hour on the grill.
Next week, I'll do the turkey in less than 3 hours and always cook it breast down until the last 30 minutes. It gets all the white meat juicier.
- excellent product for pork roast on rotisserie.
     By A285XOXV7QT8LX on 2007-12-26
The ease of using this product with my grill is above excellent for Whole Pork Loin on the rotiserrie. I will not be able to use it for New Years, since True Value did not ship it as Amazone sent me an e-mail that they shipped it on the 20th. I love all products that I received from Amazon, however I can assure you that I will never purchase anything from Amazon again because you shipping business and reviews stink.
- Pretty Cool
     By A2P9XTSA2C46JQ on 2008-05-03
I like this little fuel basket set. It keeps the coals together when you want to create a two-zone fire. I have used this product about 6 times now. The only small con I find is that the lit coals near the ends don't hold their heat and are usually the first coals to die out. The coals in the center usually last (stay lit & hot)as they normally do. I use a Weber chimney to light my coals... and they burn bright red and then white hot before I dump them into these baskets. I would recommend these mostly to the grill-master who has it all. I find them worth the small cost I spent for them and as I said they work - just have to monitor your coals a little more than you may normally do. Great gift idea though.
- A Nice Upgrade
     By A1Q1HANBEN7G79 on 2008-05-26
When I learned that the wire dividers were no longer available for the Weber 22-1/2" grill I was a bit miffed that I had to buy a more expensive product to do the same job--simply segregate the charcoal at the sides of the fuel area for indirect cooking. However, these new charcoal baskets do the job much better. They contain the charcoal and wood chips very well and are much more versatile. Using tongs, I can even move the hot coals to a different location for better heat distribution when necessary. This was a nice upgrade.
- Great Product!
     By A1ZS8NXVW6HUWR on 2008-06-19
For charcoal enthusiasts, this is a must-have. I use to set up my indirect grilling by using tongs to move the charcoal to one side of the grate, but always had problems since the mound would be uneven. With these, it's easy to set up indirect grilling and keep the zones perfectly placed. It's simple to tell where the indirect grilling ends and the direct begins. One thing I do go get both baskets lit is to start off with them pushed together in the center of the grate and set the chimney starter on top. Once the coals are burned down and hot, pour the coals so that they flow into each basket. Then use tongs to push the baskets to separate sides of the grill. Works much better than trying to light two individual baskets and waiting for them to burn down. Also, use two thermometers - one over the coals and another over your indirect grilling space. Typically, with a full basket, the area over the coals will get to about 600 degrees, but the indirect area stays at an awesome 350! I couldn't be happier with my new grilling accessory. Along with a chimney starter, these are my grilling 'must-haves.' Don't know why I ever grilled without them!
- Big Basket - Only need to use half.
     By A223GF47OLTJ42 on 2008-08-01
I recently bought theses baskets and I've cooked ribs with them twice. I have a standard Weber kettle and these baskets are probably a little too large for it. I used both halves the first time I cooked and ended up cooking my ribs too quickly because they created so much heat. The second time I only used one half of the basket and I was able to cook the ribs much slower. They turned out great this way!
- Indirect Grilling: Conveniently keeps coals in place as designed.
     By A1NS44U5NFNA2Y on 2006-08-02
Great for indirect cooking on that takes hours. For example, brisket, pork shoulder, turkey, etc. Fits perfectly in Weber 22 ½ inch grills and leaves just the right amount of space for a drip pan. Used with a drip pan, they will keep the heat under control and right where you want it. I love mine.
- Great Purchase

I am thrilled with this product and with the results when I use it to grill!

This product provides the ability to expand (enlarge the heating area) and limit (control for better direct cooking) the surface of the charcaol grill.
