Oxo Good Grips Cake Testerx$0.95

(22 reviews)

Best Price: $2.50 $0.95

How to know when the cake is done? There's the broom bristle method (yuck), the finger tap method (unreliable), and the toothpick method (only works with shallow cakes). If you love to bake make sure you get the best results for your efforts and use a real, genuine cake tester. MPN: 75681 - UPC: 719812756813

  • Good One

I liked this one. Works very well. Haven't washed in dishwasher. So dont know how that would go.

  • Good Product

The cake tester works as good as a toothpick without worrying about the splinters. It seems more sanitary and I like the extra length.

  • Never Shows Goo (and that's BAD)

    By AZGST44690HON on 2008-03-20
My daughter snapped my old cake tester and I didn't realize that all cake testers were not created equal when I bought this Oxo one. sighhhhh It's got a nice handle for pinching between my fingers, sure, but the skinny wire doesn't really show if the batter is still gooey when I poke something that's baking. My old cake tester (sighhh again) had a little flattened piece on the end of the stick and THAT successfully showed any goo whereas this Oxo cake tester never shows goo.
Oh well. It's useful for popping the bubbles in my loaves of bread before their final rise.

  • Handy baking tool

Nice upgrade on cake tester design, easy to hold when testing whether a cake is done.

  • Handy little gadget

    By A1QMHASESF9HUI on 2007-09-26
If you bake a lot, this comes in handy. Longer then a toothpick, you get a more accurate "test" of the item in which you are baking. The handle is large and is comfortable to use. I use it all the time, and is very easy to clean up.

This is a must in any household that bakes anything. Just insert the cake tester into the middle of the cake and if cake sticks tothe tester its not done yet. great product

  • Perfect!
    By A159IGE3AGVKT1 on 2007-12-29
I wish I had 10 of these things. I never bake without it. My cat loves it too, and always steals it from me...beware if you have a playful cat. Anyway, this item is sturdy & the silicone grip at the top is much better that the plain metal that most have. I highly recommend.

  • Better than using a toothpick
    By AAPPWNP9FWVWS on 2008-01-30
This is just such an improvement over using a toothpick especially since it is a lot longer to start with. It also goes in the dishwasher. Other than that, you can get it for $1.99 or less with super saver shipping and the 4 for 3 option, so what's not to like?

  • Wonderful
    By A1Y7G3PD007DXE on 2008-02-22
I really like this cake tester.
It's easier to hold and longer than a toothpick.
Be sure to wipe it off right after using it so it doesn't get crusty.
Even if it does - you can wash it.
A wonderful product, and definitely worth the $2!

  • OXO Cake Tester
    By ACB9RF73NA5QU on 2008-03-29
How nice it is to have another great product from OXO that makes life so much easier for those of us challenged with arthritis. I used to use a corsage pin (2" long pin with a small pearl head on it). It became difficult for me to hang on to and kept slipping out of my fingers. This new cake tester works great! Nice long needle and great pad to hold between your whole thumb pad and fore finger. I highly recommend!!!

  • TERRIFIC IDEA FOR TESTING CAKES
    By A161QDF8AQLUTO on 2007-03-08
I didn't know they even made these so purchased one and they are much sturdier and more sanitary than a "regular toothpick."

  • Love it!

So much better than a toothpick! And, you don't have to worry about running out. A must have for every kitchen.

  • Works great; gets lost in drawer
    By A34FZJKDH5CSC2 on 2007-12-31
This cake tester works great, but the small size can get lost easily. It's a bit more of a hassle to wash than to just use a toothpick that you can throw away. But, if you don't keep toothpicks handy, this is exactly what you need.

  • Glorified Toothpick
    By A1UX8OAX59ZOCH on 2008-01-12
To be honest, I purchased this product to meet the $25 minimum for free shipping. I have not used it yet but I'm sure it will do a fine job when the time comes. Is it better than a toothpick? It is if you don't happen to have a toothpick when your cake is almost done. This you will always have in your utensil drawer(unless you lose it).

  • SUPER LONG TO TEST EVEN THE TALLEST OF CAKES
    By A13VRD542WGVGK on 2007-05-16
LOVE THIS TOOL. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS KEEPING TRACK OF IT IN MY UTENSIL DRAWER. WHILE IT IS VERY LONG, IT CAN BE DIFFICULT TO FIND IN A CROWDED STORAGE AREA. I MAY TRY TO FIND A SPECIFIC HOOK TO HOLD IT IN PLAIN VIEW.

  • Very Handy!
    By A3M750O5WJ1SBY on 2008-04-30
Nice to have kitchen tool. Beats the toothpick by a mile! If you have trouble finding in a drawer try hanging it inside a cabinet door close to the oven.

Everyone needs one of these in their kitchen! Better then a toothpick, knife, or fork.

  • Small Yet Useful
    By ATZ3VBJ6CVDEI on 2008-06-24
This handy little tool is a dream for anyone who bakes as many cakes as i do. Its so light, so small and so easily overlooked yet so useful and handy. It really does the job and makes sure your cakes come out perfect. Love this!

  • Is the cake done?
    By A3R7LPIWE85W3E on 2008-07-16
Me and my daughter do a lot of cooking together and when I was placing an order and realized that all I needed was a couple of dollars to receive super-saver free shipping, I thought "What the heck." I am glad I purchased this cake tester. My girls have used it multiple times already and love it. It is a good value for the price.

I've been using wooden toothpicks "forever" in order to test my baked goods. I decided to give this a try and I'm glad I did. It's a winner, and is particularly helpful for those baked goods that are in deeper dishes, as the Oxo is about 4" long -- that's 2" longer than a toothpick! Well worth the money.
