Pyrex Storage 14-Piece Round Set, Clear with Blue Lidsx$22.77
    (145 reviews)
Best Price: $29.99 $22.77
Eliminate the guesswork about what's lurking in your fridge with these convenient glass storage units by Pyrex. It's a scientific fact that leftovers are far less likely to be eaten if they languish hidden. By the time someone decides to take a peek, well, let's just say it can be unnerving. Glass gives you the advantage of being able to store and reheat in the same container, and it doesn't discolor or retain odors the way plastic containers can. With many sizes to choose from you'll be able to store not only leftovers but also pre-prepared meals. Keep your leftovers chilled or frozen in these durable glass containers with plastic lids. The clear glass lets you see at a glance what's inside, and the stackability factor helps you neatly store dried pasta, cereal, and other items on your shelf. When you're ready to reheat those leftovers, bring to room temperature then warm in the oven or microwave. Pyrex glass is nonporous, so it won't stain or absorb food odors. And, unlike plastic containers, glass won't emit harmful chemicals during microwave use. This 14-piece storage set consists of seven round glass bowls: one large seven-cup; two medium-size four-cup; and four handy two-cup (great for lunches). Each has its own seal-tight, blue plastic lid. Incredibly durable as long as sudden changes in temperature are avoided, Pyrex glassware is safe for the oven, microwave, freezer, refrigerator, and dishwasher, and even looks good serving at the table. Please avoid using the lids in the microwave and oven, and wash by hand or on the dishwasher's top rack. Pyrex covers the glass bowls with a two-year warranty, and the lids with a one-year warranty. Pyrex glass is made in the USA. --Ann Bieri

A few changes could improve this line By A3IVIS1OPYUU0X on 2005-12-09
Pyrex has two product lines, Storageware (of which this set is a part) and Serveware, that really should be combined. As others have pointed out, this set could be improved by having some larger bowls. The Serveware line features larger bowls, made of textured glass, that look nicer on the table than these plain glass bowls. But the Serveware bowls don't come with lids; you need to use disposable plastic wrap for refrigerator storage.
The bowls in this set have mostly straight sides. While this is more efficient for storing things in your refrigerator, it's less so for stacking the set in your cupboards when not in use. A bit more taper in the sides would let the same-size bowls stack better. The Serveware bowls have quite a lot of taper in the sides, so they stack together well in the cupboard but don't use space in the refrigerator efficiently.
Here's what Pyrex needs to produce: a set of bowls, mostly larger than in this set, with the attractive texture of the Serveware line. The sides should have a moderate amount of taper so they'll stack together in your cupboards. They should have lids that fit the bowls.
WATCH OUT for mismatched lids. My set came with the correct assortment of bowls, but 5 small lids for the 4 small bowls and only 1 medium lid for the 2 medium bowls. Of course I didn't check this until I'd already run the full set through the dishwasher and torn the box apart for curbside recycling. I would have rated the set 4 stars without this warehouse goof.
Love it - highly recommended - Pyrex v. Plastic By A1NWOIT53EUA9U on 2006-03-22
Trying to live a more sustainable lifestyle - using more reuseables and less disposables, and Pyrex is PERFECT for that!!!
I had been using plastic Gladwear, Ziploc, and Rubbermaid containers, but had several problems with them:
1. Storing tomato sauce and then re-heating it in the container dyed them a weird shade of orange.
2. They are supposed to be microwaveable but I found that after a few months of normal use, they were useless - warped, funny colors, scratched, etc.
3. The plastic scratched easily, creating chanels where bacteria could grow - eww.
4. I've read multiple articles from multiple magazines quoting multiple studies about how microwaving plastics release toxic chemicals into your food.
5. After several months of use, they were beat and had to be recycled - recycling is, of course, better than throwing them in the trash, but the process of recycling creates pollution and not only that, I'd have to go out and buy more, spending more money, which was what I was trying to get away from. Good for the company, because they got more money, bad for me, the customer.
BUT this Pyrex set is GREAT! 7 containers, 7 lids. LOVE IT!!!
1. I can reheat food in the microwave (without the plastic lid) and don't have to worry about chemicals leaking in to my food.
2. They do great in the freezer - we use one of the small ones to hold ground coffee - we buy beans and ground several days worth at once, then pop the grounds in the small container and into the freezer.
3. It's Pyrex, so it's no big deal when my daughter accidently drops one helping me put the dishes away.
4. I can use them to hold raw marrinating meat, chicken, or fish without having to worry about them holding on to the bacteria.
5. They are dishwasher safe, just put the lids on the top rack only, and they come out perfect, very smooth surface so they are easy to wash.
6. I've read other reviews saying that they look nice too, so they can go from fridge or oven (7. Oh yeah, they are oven-safe too) to table as serving dishes - this is true, if we ever had a dinner party, I would't think twice about using them as serving dishes.
8. They are simple, which I love, because I won't have to worry about them clashing with anything (we are a young family so we have hodge-podge of kitchen stuff anyway so it doesn't matter right now).
9. They "nest" together very nicely - we live in a small apt with limited kitchen storage, but these containers, one stacked up inside the other, with the lids separating the containers, don't take up any more space than my old plastic junk.
I use these ALL THE TIME, I can't say enough good things about them. All of mine are "in commision" right now, except for one which is in the dishwasher. My one complaint is a set of 7 lids and 7 containers is not enough, I need another set, LOL. :-) (I also have the loaf pan w/ lid - very nice, small, but nice, good addition to my set)
Highly recommend! :-)
The BEST storage bowls By A1CAJ6MDPACT6W on 2005-08-02
Pyrex glass containers with snap on covers are the BEST, most healthy containers... glass is the safest material for microwaving...do not use plastics to microwave - (...). The only complaints I have are that I wish the bowls came in bigger sizes too and be very gentle when opening the lid straight out of the freezer as the edges of the lids are a little brittle when frozen. If you let the container sit at room temperature for a few minutes before opening, the plastic lid warms up enough to open easily. Anyway - great product - highly recommended.
Poor microwave performance By A1QQ66JJ3NS7JI on 2007-01-17
I bought these for microwaving but after using them there are numerous problems. The most disappointing thing is that the bowls heat up in the microwave, rather than the food. You end up with soup that is cold in the middle and warm near the edges, while the container ends up being very hot. Plastic beats this since plastic containers never heat up in the microwave and they always heat their contents evenly.
The answer to kitchen organization By A37S9JFCG28MH1 on 2005-04-28
This storage system is absolutely wonderful. The bowls are sized perfect for the kitchen to use as storage (they stack well in the fridge or pantry) or cereal/serving bowls. I take my lunches to work in them everyday. They work great in the dishwasher and microwave where they neither stain or pickup smells from any food- unlike plastic. They are the only really safe thing to use with your food around heat, as all forms of plastic leach into food at some temperature. The best thing of all are the lids. Why did't someone come up with these years ago? I have several sets and have given sets to others with rave reviews each time.
- A Fair Deal
     By A2MKFD7V6SDHTA on 2006-11-05
it was a fair deal for the price I bought. I really like them as a good storage set. easy to clean, but the lids are said to be dishwasher safe. I dont agree with that. They should be hand washed with normal water. If they are washed using the dishwasher they wear out quickly, they loose the elastic behaviour. I am just planning to buy more and more of pyrex storage sets. I would highly recommend this product.
- Great value for price
     By A1AJMEOTBPEAZ7 on 2006-11-09
I bought this set when they were on sale for close to 50% off. They are a great value for the price. I prefer glass to plastic for storage and reheating since it doesn't discolor with foods, and has no risk of releasing any harmful fumes.
I regularly take them from the fridge straight into the microwave with no problems. The lids fit great, but warp a little but if allowed to heat-dry in the dishwasher. Otherwise, they are dishwasher safe. The bowls are elegant enough to be used as serving bowls in a pinch as well.
Just remember that "pieces" include lids, so a 14-piece set is 7 containers and their lids.
- Smaller than expected
     By A204B2OUY0TSP4 on 2006-12-16
For some reason I was thinking the 7 cup bowl would be bigger. I measured it by pouring single cups into it and it topped off at almost 6 cups, false advertising?
- The Round Ones originally $29.95 but Amazon keeps putting these on sale
     By AXO4PQU0XG3TG on 2006-07-24
I hope these things are airtight because I just bought my fourth set. I don't buy the freezer storage containers because I own these. They can be used in cooking and freezing so I save on pricey disposable freezer bags. The little ones I use to store one package each of corn starch, yeast, baking powder, baking soda, three hamburger patties and to prepare, freeze and bake individual sized servings of salmon fillets.
The medium ones and the large ones are for leftovers, soup fixings, freezer meals, steaming chicken, fruit salad et al.
I'm ten percent tempted to try out the rectangular ones because some foods I don't want to freeze in a stack but I don't think I would get as much use out of them as I do these round ones. I really would like to buy a fifth set but I won't. I rarely have more than one or two empty ones to spare. These get used all the time. I really didn't like using plastic wrap or aluminum foil to refrigerate food. These lids are more secure and therefore I am less stressed.
p.s. I am on my SIXTH ORDER but I am starting to lose count. Oh, wow. These things are so good. I use them for salmon apportioned with my expensive knife, I steam curries, Thanksgiving leftovers. The little ones get used all the time. None of the sizes are gathering dust. This is a great product and with lids averages out to about $3 or less per set so pick the set that is priced no higher than $3 per bowl with lid. SOMEDAY, I hope to make English trifle in these.
- This is my second set
     By A3BYAAAHSGN4M5 on 2005-10-24
I've now purchased 2 sets, and I love them. The smallest sized ones are perfect for storing leftover side dishes or a single serving of a casserole-type dish. The medium or large ones are great for storing larger quantities (of course), and are great for bringing salads to work. The glass and plastic lids come clean easily, and microwave well (though the lid gets hot, and has occasionally slipped back on to the glass...making it difficult to get off once it cooled a little bit).
- I use these 5 days a week
     By A2HPC9WPPFJ8OG on 2005-10-24
I use these to take my food to work each day. I chose this product for what it is NOT - plasic (it is not safe to microwave food in plastic containers). I've done a bit of research on this and haven't found any better product out there for my purposes.
I'm pleased with the usability of these bowls - good sizes, not too heavy, easy to clean. The lids stay on tight, I have never had a problem with transport. I carry the food, heat it and eat it all out of these bowls. I've started using these to store food at home as well, so I'll probably buy a second set.
- Excellent product, but...
     By A2QCVRQITJMPYF on 2006-01-01
It says this is a 14 piece set. In reality, it is 7 pieces, with 7 lids. I hardly think it is honest to count the lids separately.
This product nevertheless earns five stars, because it is still a bargain at 7 pieces... less than $4 a bowl for a product that will last forever.
- use this and be safe
     By A18OXK83N85TTQ on 2007-01-11
This is a good product and now a must have: I heard that plastic mixes up with the food in the microwave and eventually damages cells in your body (your body starts rejecting it). Use glass (and a moist paper towel to heat up food) and leave the plastic lid out of the oven. Also don't buy any non stick products, they have a government band that will not take full effect until several years downd the road. I miss them though, hard to fry eggs with pam and a steel pan. Amazon has great prices on these and they are always on sale. Watch what you eat stay away from transfat and be safe. Cheers
- Good lunch bowls
     By A1B4L76ZQGZSS0 on 2007-03-12
I bought these to expand my collection of these bowls. They are good for taking lunch to work, and storing things in the fridge. The plastic lids can pick up smells sometimes (like ALL plastic except melamine), but putting on plastic wrap before putting on the lid can help. (Make sure the plastic wrap is pushed lower than the top of the bowl, so that the lid can be level instead of rounding up in the middle.) Otherwise, I have no complaints, and have used some of these bowls for at least 3 years.

- These are great!
     By A2YHQ28MO4PPTP on 2007-04-24
These are AWESOME! My family uses them for lunches on a daily basis for lunches and leftovers for 2 years and they still work and look great. We even put them in the dishwasher.
2-cup are great for small appetites, 4-cup for my husbands larger meals.
Highly recommended!!!!
- plastic cover isn't spill proof
     By A2NT6IF0R6OVA5 on 2007-11-16
Positive:
- Easily cleaned.
- Made from sturdy glass.
Negative:
- Plastic cover isn't spill proof, which is a big disappointment.
- Could be better
     By A37VSPQCQ8GHFU on 2008-01-01
3 issues with this product. Does not live up to the specifications.
-> lids dont fit well on the bowls. It's a struggle
-> bowl gets too hot when placed in the microwave for more than a min. Cannot even be touched with bare hands
-> one of the bowls chipped in the dish washer.
- Round is better than rectangular
     By AQNUUPE33KAX0 on 2008-02-15
I purchase this set because they are all round bowls. Pyrex makes good glass containers but the plastic lids usually won't last as long as the bowl itself. I used to purchase sets with both round and rectangular shaped containers. After only a few months, the rectangle lids started to worn out. However, all the round ones stayed in good shape for years. It's not doing good to be storage containers when you don't have the lids. My wife also finds this is true to the Corning brand. Thereforre, if the durability of the lids is a main concern for you, this is the set you should have.
- Bye, bye plastic containers
     By A1LBKEJATO9NNX on 2005-08-03
These glass containers with their tight lids are great for storing anything. I used to use Tupperware and other plastic containers to bring lunch to work, but I always hate the smell of the soap accompanying my food each time I heat it up in the microwave. These Pyrex glass containers are thick and work great for my food and no more soap aroma in my food. Thank you. I am so happy with them, I bought two sets. I'm considering buying more.
- Exactly what I was looking for!
     By A3GJTB27TQ0UMA on 2005-08-24
These pyrex containers are great! A great alternative to microwaving in plastic and having chemicals absorbed into your food - just throw a paper towel over it before heating to prevent splatters! I've been using the 4 cup container to take my lunch to school with me every day and it's the perfect size. The little ones work well for storing small amounts of leftovers in the fridge, or taking a side dish or salad with me for lunch. Although the lids were a little bit tough to get on the first time, after a week or so, they all started going on easily...and they fit tight enough that nothing has every leaked out (even soup!). My favorite kitchen purchase in a long time!
- Caps to bowls
     By A5TL9Y9HF6DR6 on 2006-02-25
This is a very useful set. We find it somewhat difficult to put the tops on.
- This if for people who cannot afford Corningware
     By A2EPCVMHXHUI22 on 2006-03-25
Update: One 7-cup set broke after one month of use(after baking), Amazon replaced it in no time(2 day shipping free), its always safe to buy @ Amazon. (thanks 2 amazon)
I believe this product is satisfactory, go for it if you cannot afford genuine corningware. And if you are looking between 10-piece and 14-piece then 14 is better because it comes with free shipping, if its 10-piece you have to buy another item to make it $25.00.
My experience with this product is "So Far So Good", they are easy to use and sturdy.
- Nice but too small
     By A30MEHABXBBLSP on 2006-12-20
Don't let the pictures fool you. Make sure to relate the size because i was disappointed. The largest of the set is still too small.
- Great Set
     By A1DXG16KE9959Y on 2007-02-08
Glass is the best to use in the microwave and these bowls come with tight fitting lids (don't use the lids in the microwave, of course)! I like the sizes, too...not too big...not too small. I love my set and will continue to buy these as needed. I bought this set to add to the pyrex bowls I bought open stock at a discount store. This is a great set and Amazon has a great price on them, too!
- 14-Piece Includes the Lids!
     By A1J6ZJEAFWTFEL on 2007-02-09
I didn't pay much attention and thought that "14-Piece" meant 14 bowls. My fault. Otherwise, the quality of the product seems fine.
- Works as expected.
     By A2P27T5B5SKJMB on 2007-06-02
Great product from pyrex. Very basic and very well made. Does work as expected. Its been well over few months i have been using this and have no complains so far. I should have bought this set much earlier. Got it for around $20.
- Like them a lot
     By A1T1YSCDW0PD25 on 2007-06-17
I like them much better than opaque storage containers. I can't think of anything negative to say about them and I use them a lot so I'm giving it 5 stars. My wife likes them too.
- Throw away your tupperware!
     By A37X2POEZGIYX4 on 2007-08-09
With all this attention about how poisonous plastic is (microwaving food in plastic, for example), I was on a mission to find storage bowls that could be used for everything, from freezing, to microwaving, to fridge storage. Pyrex to the rescue!! These are great, they clean exeptionally well (hand wash or dishwasher) and the lids seal well. Great value. All hail glassware!
- Great kitchen items.
     By A1LJR5IS0B6ADX on 2008-01-07
The Pyrex set is awesome and durable. These containers can be frozen, refrigerated, micro waved, dishwasher friendly, put in the oven or just store food. The containers themselves are glass and the lids are plastic. The plastic lids have a bit more restriction on them. As long as the containers are cleaned, there is a minimal if any staining. I bought my mother a set for Christmas and I plan to get a set for myself.
- If some lids are missing...
     By A1DRXJ76DQIBJI on 2008-02-02
.... Amazon will not handle the problem but rather tell you to contact the manufacturer of this product.
I received this product with several missing lids.
