Best Price: $79.99

Our Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor detects your baby's slightest movements, even while she sleeps. While it may seem that your baby is perfectly still when she is sleeping, she really isn't.

The under-the-mattress Sensor Pad detects your baby's slightest movements. If your baby goes absolutely still for 20 seconds, the Sensor Pad sends a signal to the Nursery Unit which sounds an alarm alerting you to check your baby. If you are out of the baby's room, the two portable Parents' Units (Sound Monitor) will pick up the alarm as well as other nursery sounds.

In addition, the Nursery Unit has an optional "tic" feature. If the Sensor Pad senses movement, the Nursery Unit will continuously tick. If it doesn't, the ticking will stop. The two Parents' Units give you the flexibility of always leaving one in your bedroom while moving the second unit to the room you are in while your baby is sleeping.

Your crib must have a hard flat surface. If it does not, just place a piece of masonite or a board under the mattress and place the Sensor Pad on top of the masonite and under the mattress. Be sure to place the correct side of the Sensor Pad facing up.

The Angelcare Movement Sensor will give you the peace of mind you won't get from just a sound monitor or even a video monitor. And, this monitor is an excellent value. It is 2 monitors in 1 so you don't have to purchase a sound monitor.

The Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor includes an Under-the-Mattress Sensor Pad, a Nursery Unit, 2 Parents' Units (sound monitor) and 3 AC adapters. It can also operate with 12 AAA batteries (not included).

Parents of preemies and infants at increased risk of SIDS lose a lot of sleep wondering if their babies are still breathing. Even parents of healthy babies experience this kind of anxiety. With its movement sensor pad, sound transmitter, sound lights, and movement detecting "ticking" sound, The Angelcare Movement Sensor with Sound Monitor can take away virtually all this anxiety.

Three Functions, Infinite Peace of Mind
The Angelcare Movement Sensor has three modes of use, enabling parents to use the sensor/sound monitor well into toddlerhood and beyond, if desired. With the Sound & Movement function, you can hear your baby’s sounds, see sound lights, and hear a "tic" sound with every movement the baby makes. If no movement is detected, the "tic" will stop and after 20 seconds the alarm will sound. In the Tic Off mode you will not hear the ticking sound with every movement. However, you will still hear the baby’s sounds and see sound lights, and your baby’s movement is still being detected. An alarm will still sound if absolutely no movement is detected for 20 seconds. And finally, with Sound Only, the movement sensor is disabled, but you will still be able to hear your baby’s sounds and see sound lights. In this mode, the Angelcare functions as a regular sound monitor. For many parents, just being able to hear the sighs and squeaks of the newest member of the family is reassurance enough. For those who need more input, for whatever reason, the additional sensory features of the Angelcare can be lifesaving.

How the Angelcare Movement Sensor Works
A sensor pad is placed under the center of baby’s crib mattress on a flat, hard surface. The sensor pad cord passes underneath the mattress entirely, exiting the crib in the corner. It is then plugged into the jack of the nursery unit transmitter. The nursery unit can be plugged into an electrical outlet or it can operate with four AAA batteries. The same goes for the parents’ unit receivers (two parents’ units included). Turn the parents’ units on by selecting either channel A or B. Make sure they’re set to the same channel as the nursery unit. Set the nursery unit to the desired mode (Sound & Movement, Tic Off, or Sound Only). You may leave one parents’ unit in your bedroom and carry the other with you as you move about the house and yard. Now, depending on the function you’ve selected, you’ll be able to keep track of your baby’s every sound and movement.

Sound Lights
Indicator lights on an LED sound bar (on the parents’ unit) allow you to "see" your baby’s sounds if background noises prevent you from hearing baby. As baby’s sounds get louder, more lights illuminate.

Optional "Tic" Feature
When the nursery unit is set to Sound & Movement, it will continuously tick with every movement your baby makes. If no movement is detected by the sensor pad beneath baby’s mattress, the ticking will stop.

Movement Indicator Light
The movement indicator light is located only on the nursery unit. When the nursery unit is set to Sound & Movement or Tic Off, the movement indicator light will flash green with baby’s every movement. The flashing green light will let you know that movement is being detected, which will allow you to check on a sleeping baby in the dark.

False Alarms
False alarms are possible with the Angelcare Movement Sensor, especially if instructions have not been followed to a "t". Make sure to turn off the nursery unit after you’ve taken baby out of the crib. Also, once baby starts being more mobile, she may roll right off the sensor pad area of the mattress. A troubleshooting guide in the instruction manual gives other solutions to false alarms.

For parents of preemies and babies at greater risk of developing SIDS, the Angelcare Movement Sensor is a lifesaver—literally. A sensor pad goes under baby’s mattress and detects baby’s slightest movements, even if he is sleeping soundly. If the sensor does not pick up any movement for 20 seconds, an alarm sounds over the two portable receivers and alerts parents. Along with the sensor is a traditional baby monitor that transmits all sound from the nursery to the two receivers. The receivers have a range of up to 200 feet and have light indicators that correspond with the noise level. The monitor and receivers have two channels and low battery indicator lights. Each unit can operate either by four "AAA" batteries or AC adapter (two included). This full-spectrum monitoring system is the recipient of numerous awards and is covered by a one-year limited warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

  • Great Monitor for Peace of Mind

    By AAOYOZ470S2FT on 2005-01-28
We have used it with the movement sensor for my son's first year and without the movement sensor for the last 6 months. (My son is now 18 months old.) We love this monitor for several reasons.

    1. The monitor with movement sensor can be used in a basinet, portable crib, or a regular crib. Just make sure you put a plywood board under the sensor pad if the bottom of the basinet or crib is soft or just a spring base. This helps prevent false alarms. The sensor also packs easily in a suitcase for travel.

    2. The monitor has a good range and is clear. We have a large house and yard. This monitor works at the complete opposite end of the house and throughout our yard.

    3. Our son was a preemie and this monitor gave us the piece of mind to sleep at night, especially with the fear of SIDS. It truly detects movement and not just weight. (We tested it with a large dictionary and the sensor went off after a few seconds.) It picks up your child's movement from breathing even in the sounded state of sleep. When our son started rolling over and became a tummy sleeper (even though we put him to bed on his back) the monitor was the only reason I slept at night.

    4. You can use this sensor in several modes. It has one mode that give an audible beep with each movement as well as detecting sounds from the nursery (for extra piece of mind and so you know it is working if you are really nervous), another mode that detects movement (and sounds) and sets off an alarm if baby does not move for 15 seconds, and the last mode lets you shut off the movement sensor and use it just as a sound monitor (great for an older baby or toddler and you don't need to buy a new monitor). We also liked that before the alarm went off, it gave a warning beep. This gave us time to go in and check on our son, before the alarm went off and woke him up. We had no false alarms with this monitor when our son was an infant, and a few when he started really moving in his sleep because he would roll off the monitor pad. It just took a little experimentation with pad placement to fix this situation.

    5. Baby slept better with this monitor because we were not constantly going into his room to check on him and accidentally waking him up.

    6. The monitor also has a light display that lights up more lights (in a row) when your child makes more noise. I can visually look at the monitor in the middle of the night and tell by the display if he is sleeping soundly.

    7. The monitor has two bands (a & b). You can switch bands on both the nursery and parent unit if one band is getting a lot of static or interference. If you have two small children you can also use two monitors, one set to each band.

We love this monitor so much that we are planning on purchasing a second unit before the birth of our second child.

  • Excellent! Get it! You won't be sorry

    By A2XSQFTS6ZGVO5 on 2004-09-07
I got this after considerable research on baby movement sensors. I compared features, false alarms, etc. And I can tell you can I have been VERY pleased after using this for 2 months after bringing home out baby from the hospital.

Our little 2 month sleeps for 10 hours straight through the night! Why? Because with the Angelcare Movement Sensor, we're not afraid to let him sleep on his belly. Of course, we remove all blankets and the pillow to reduce the chance of SIDs. But I have complete faith in this product.

We using the sensor in a basinet for now. Make sure the sensor is under a wooden board. I think the people who have had bad luck with this product maybe didn't follow these directions.

The sensor has gone off twice. Once when he was 2 weeks old and later when he was 6 weeks old. We came running to check him out and he was fine. We'll never know if it was a false signal, but again, I trust my son's life with it. It's eased our sense of fear of SIDs and let's us get a full night's sleep. I highly recommend it.

  • Works, but poor design

    By A3LYJIIZP8I3LP on 2005-05-09
We've started using this for our newborn son, and there is no doubt that the device works well in terms of core functionality. However, its commonsense design is poor, and on that basis, I've downgraded it from 5 stars down to 2, as some of these design flaws hit you between the eyes at 2am in the morning, where you really dont have the patience to deal with them.

Here are the flaws in its design as I see it, all of them could have been easily fixed if a little more thought had gone into it.

    1. Volume of movement alarm is linked to the volume of the microphone. The alarm if movement doesn't happen should be as loud as possible, as I want to cover the distance between waking and fixing the problem as soon as possible - however this device has linked the volume of the alarm to be the same as the volume of the baby monitor part. The end result is that if you don't want to get blasted in the ear by your baby's every grunt at night, then you may miss the important movement alarm. Same goes for if your trying to enjoy a quiet (and rare) moment alone with your partner - you might be interested in seeing only the lights to indicate baby's noise level... but this means that the SIDS alarm cannot be heard. Needs at least two volume controls - one for the microphone and another for the alarm (or default the alarm to maximum).

    2. If you're using the Tic function, with the microphone level turned down, then you can't tell whether the lights flashing is due to movement or sound.

    3. You need to switch off both ends of the device to deactivate it. Why? If you switch off only the base unit, the parent unit will lose its channel and a stream of static will issue from the parent unit, which will wake your partner. If you don't switch off the base unit, then as soon as you take bub from the cot, 15 seconds later the alarm will sound. At 2 am in the morning, I'm not lucid enough to remember to switch off both ends of the device. The best solution is to switch it from the "movement and sound" setting (called "Tic off") to the "sound only" setting... at least your partner won't get blasted by the alarm or static, just a screaming baby as you try and change the daiper.

    4. Use of AAA batteries in the parent unit. The device is large enough to use AA batteries that can then be recharged easily in the same charger as used for digital cameras, etc - but unfortunately you can't use them, because they've chosen to use AAA size. I don't want to fork out another 50 bucks for a AAA size charger - I'd rather use the far more common AA size.

    5. Critical switches are on the back of the base unit - so the unit is always on the shelf with its back facing out.

    6. Poorly labelled three way switches, e.g. "Tic Off" doesn't say whether it includes sound or not. Fair enough, easy to work out, but why cut corners this way? Have two two way switches - one for sound, one for movement and make it all clear.

    7. The ring on the top of the parent unit looks as though it will fit over a standard door knob - it doesn't though. Rather than a stylised angel's halo, I would have much preferred a functional belt clip.

    8. It would be nice if the "tic" feature could be turned on from the parent unit, just to give a little reassurance, and then turned off - but you can't. The switch is on the base unit, meaning you'll need to go into bub's room to activate it - sort of defeating the purpose.

Having said this, we've found that the parent's unit receives the transmission from the base very well within the confines of our house, and we've yet to have a false alarm with the movement sensors... so in this respect, I think you can rely on the device despite its annoying drawbacks.

Of course, it would be well worth investing in a first aid course for children should you be concerned enough regarding SIDS - as there would be little point in being alerted to the fact your child's heart and breathing had stopped if you didn't know how to perform infant CPR in an effort resuscitate them. That would be horrific.

I wouldn't rebuy this device; there are other baby monitor/alarm systems that I'd investigate before getting this one. Maybe they don't work as well, but its worth investigating.

  • Wonderful monitor!!!

    By A1OOXOH1VH3GYF on 2004-05-16
This monitor is the #1 product that I think any new parent should have! When my daughter was first born, I was awake ALL NIGHT!!!! Not because she was, but because I was constantly checking to see if she was breathing! I got this monitor and used it in her bassinet for 4 weeks until we moved her to her crib where it is now. I placed weights in the crib, all sorts of objects to test it out and NOT ONCE has it gone off due to a faulty product. Twice it did go off when she was in the crib, but that is because she scootched herself into the corner of her crib and the sensor could no longer sence her breathing. The sound monitor also works great...never had a problem
with it..the sound is crystal clear! So, if you want to sleep easy, this is a great product. As for the other reviews with negative feedback, they should have returned it and gotten a new one. This product is FANTASTIC!!!

  • THIS MONITOR SAVED MY DAUGHTER'S LIFE! A DEFINITE MUST FOR EVERY SINGLE PARENT OUT THERE!

    By A1L573EPG5WWUY on 2006-01-18
It was Sunday, January 15 and my husband and I were sound asleep. All of a sudden a hear the alarm from the monitor go off and when I went into my daughter's room, she was facing down on her crib (she turned on her own; she does not sleep on her belly) and I went to turn her and she was blue.

It was the most horrific experience my husband and I have ever been through. I screamed for my husband and he came in and gave her rescue breathing (CPR) and with his first breathe, she came back to life. I was on the phone with 911 as he was performing his second breathe and she came back to her normal self 20 minutes later.

We don't know how long she was without breathing, but thanks to the monitor, we were alerted in time to save her life. We only have had 2 false alarms since she was born (she is 4 months old) because she was deep sleeping. Two false alarms is nothing compared to the fact that you can feel comfortable knowing this product does work and can save your baby.

PLEASE LET EVERYONE YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS FANTASTIC PRODUCT! IT IS DEFINTELY WORTH THE $99 and more than anything, your baby can be saved, just like my baby girl was.

  • Saved my baby's life
    By A2VILMDA1V5IQ7 on 2004-09-29
My baby had RSV at 7 weeks old, and was sent home from the er as not being sick enough to admit him. That night he was having such respatory distress that he quit breathing at 3am. The alarm went off, and we were able to start him breathing again. Needless to say, he spent the next 8 days in the hospital on breathing monitors, but if he didn't have that at night, he would not be here now. He's now 20 months old and doing fine! I would definately buy this monitor again.

  • A GREAT monitor, a must have worth every penny
    By A3S97T19FGEN9R on 2004-03-24
I reccomend this monitor to any new parent that would like a peaceful sleep at night. This monitor was not available for my first child and I was up every 5 minutes making sure she was breathing. The only thing I did find was not to use it with the ceiling fan on. The monitor still works but the sensor picks up the ceiling fans motion and not babys breathing.

  • Can't Live Without It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    By on 2004-06-16
If someone told me I could buy only one thing for my newborn it would be this monitor! This is my first child and it just so happened that he was born 3 weeks early and weighed only 5 1/2 pounds when we brought him home. He would never cry or make any noise at all which scared me even more because a "SOUND" only monitor would tell me nothing. I received this monitor as a baby shower gift and I must say I wondered if it would do everything it promised. I can honestly say that it did everything it said PLUS!!!! I have never had a false alarm and I get great audio. The best thing is that I am comfortable enough to sleep at night between feedings. The monitor makes a little "TIC" sound each time your baby breaths. You can turn the "TIC" off if you wish but my husband and I love to hear it. At first it is a little wierd but after a few nights you don't think about it, you just sleep like before you had a baby :-)

    (...)

If you've read some of the reviews and are concerned about ceiling fans interfering with the sensitivity.....we have a ceiling fan and a window unit air conditioner in the baby's room and it doesn't bother the reception at all.

  • Alarm does NOT go off when baby rolls off the sensor...
    By A1EY0H4WOERACU on 2004-08-12
I researched a lot of monitors and I was really happy with this one. One of the negative things about this monitor was if the baby rolls away from the sensor pad it will go off. We have only had that problem twice. She can be anywhere in her crib and the alarm will not go off. I think it is our mattress. We have a foam mattress (Suppose to be better for preventing SIDS) instead of a spring mattress. We are so happy with this monitor, we even took it on vacation with us, our daughter slept in the pack n play for a week and we were able to use it, we just put two pieces of cardboard under it and it fit in our suitcase so well. We have never had a problem with the sound monitor, but we don't use it that much(we have the hand held video monitor by Summer Infant- also a great monitor-5 Stars). We also used to use this monitor in when she was in her bassinett in our room.
***UPDATE: my daughter is 16 months old now and we still use this monitor. Never have had a problem with it. Great investmet and it gives us great piece of mind.

  • Do yourself and your baby a favor...BUY THIS!
    By on 2004-06-13
We bought this monitor before my son was born, unsure if it was worth the price. Now we are completely sold. I would have paid more for it because the peace of mind it has given us is priceless!! When our son came home from the hospital, we became paranoid about SIDS. (They bombard you with so many warnings about it now.) This monitor is the only thing that allowed us to sleep at all. I'm sure my husband and I would have gotten up repeatedly during the night to make sure our only child was ok if it were not for this monitor. We actually did that during the first week, before we realized we could truly depend on this montor. I have known people whose children died of SIDS and it is so devastating. Knowing that this monitor would warn us if he weren't breathing in time to still save his life is more valuable than I can express!

I have read others' complaints about reception and false alarms, but I haven't had that much trouble. We have had one alarm where our son just rolled off the pad, and one that we couldn't figure out why it went off. It might have been a freak thing, or maybe he wasn't breathing and the noise startled him into breathing again. The only other times it has ever gone off is when we forget to turn it off when we pick our son up. That is our little way of accidentally testing it...and it works! Other reviewers are right, the reception is a little staticky for the sound part of the monitor. However, you can still easily hear what you need to hear- crying, cooing, or whatever your baby is doing. That is in no way enough to keep this from being a wonderful monitor. The good far outweighs the bad! You will especially appreciate it if your baby is premature/low birth weight, has GERD or apnea, or learns to roll early. All of the above applied to our son, and this thing has been a life (and sanity) saver. Buy this thing; you'll be glad you did!

  • Price Comment
    By AM0ZAZ002OIMG on 2004-10-08
Previous people have written that Sears or Target have this item for cheaper. It is important to note that the one from BRU has two parent units, and the less expensive monitor sets have only one parent unit.

  • BUY THIS MONITOR!!!!
    By ANYPKKI7B5ZU2 on 2004-10-15
My son was born at 27 weeks gestation and was prone to apnea and bradycardia spells (slowing/stopping of breathing and heart rate, respecively) in the NICU. He had been free of them for over a week before they let us take him home. I know this monitor is not intended to treat/prevent medical issues or SIDS, etc., but gives us such peace. We do have a few false alarms when he rolls off the sensor pad, but better to wake us up than not! The alarm had sounded a few times and when we arrived to check on our son, he was breathing--possibly startled by the alarm. However, sometimes the alarm sounded and it did not look like he was breathing and we had to give him a little stimulation. What a life saver this product is! Get the one with the dual monitors. We leave one in the bedroom and one in the kitchen. That way we don't have to carry it from room to room. We've had almost ZERO interference from it and have not picked up phone conversations from the neighbors like some monitors do. The only thing I'd like to see different is the addition of an automatic recharger built in for the batteries. The pad would be better if it was a little larger, too.

  • THE BEST
    By AGTPPE5JQAT9D on 2005-12-19
I decided to review this monitor after reading the reviews. I have owned this monitor since we moved our daughter to her own room and crib at 7 weeks. She is now almost 5 months old and this monitor is the only reason I sleep at night. Our parents always tell us how we slept on our stomachs and they never worried. Well, I worry. While I was purchasing this monitor for a friend I noticed the stars, so I read the bad reviews. I think I counted 11 out of 169 (170, now)reviews were negative. Now I will give my quick review of those poor comments. Several of the poor comments came from people who never even used the movement sensor monitor because it was not wanted, needed, too difficult or bothersome to get the board(even though you can purchase it directly from the company for less than $20 for those unable to make one for themselves) So these poor reviews are misleading. I can see how they think it was not worth the money. Some of the reviewers complained of the poor sound quality coming from the sound monitor, I am not sure if it matters how clear it is as long as you can hear your child cry. Maybe when my child is older and can talk to me it will matter, but for now, crying is crying in our book and you can't miss it. As for interference, yes we have it when the transmitter is turned off and the receivers are on, but when the transmitter is on we only hear our childs room noise. One review complained that the product only had 1 AC adapter for the two receivers. The product new comes with AC adapters for all units involved. Maybe their unit had been returned to the store with an AC adapter left out. One reviewer complained that the tic of the movement sensor was annoying. The tic can be turned off without turing off the movement sensor or sound monitor. Another review claimed to have many false alarms. I am not saying that there are no false alarms but I would rather have rare false alarms than none at all. So far for us, we had one false alarm when our daughter moved to the very far corner of the crib at 10 weeks, and the other two just a couple of weeks ago (twice in the same night) , the cause was thought to be that I moved the sensor pad to far over after changing the sheet and I forgot to check the pad to make sure it was placed properly. The next day we did just that, we checked the pad, and as of earlier today, so far so good. We liked this unit so much we bought one for our 1 week old nephew, our friends 1 week old,and for a shower gift. I agree with Graham (a reviewer) on the improvements that could be made. Right now though, it is a good start. I ask that before you return this product or list a poor review, you consider this:
This is a movement sensor with a sound monitor, not a sound monitor with a movement sensor, when you purchase this product you are mainly buying the movement sensor.
This sensor was reviewed by 170 people and only 11 or so gave it less than 5 stars, the 159 gave it 5 stars.
Make sure you have followed the setup instructions exactly, it makes a difference the type of board, the size and the placement.
if it still doesn't work try exchanging the unit. Sometimes units just don't work. It could be a wire or something.
Lastly, if you are looking for a sound monitor that is crystal clear and you don't really want the movement sensor, this unit is not for you.
I recommend this product to anyone, I understand that it is not fail-proof but it still gives you some peace knowing that you might be warned if there are problems.

  • Couldn't have survived without this!
    By A72I4OEYDNQGT on 2004-08-20
I would give this 10 stars if I could! I have twin boys born 10 weeks early at 30 weeks. After 38 days in the NICU, it was time to take them home. No hospital monitors for the first time.

One of my boys had had an apnea attack just 5 days before taking him home. The doctors were confident, it was time to go home and no monitors were needed. They say after 5 days, it 'shouldn't' happen again (this is speaking of apnea due to prematurely only) It was terrifying to think one of my babies could stop breathing (I had seen them do it so many times in the hospital, so this wasn't just normal new Mom worry)

I tested ALL scenarios for failure. Anything in the room that could seem like motion, the other bassinet being too close, we did it all. They worked perfectly. I had such little sleep in the beginning, but thankfully it wasn't due to my worry about them breathing. We used these both in bassinettes, and now in their cribs. I can't image why someone wouldn't have one of these with a new baby.

My boys are 7 months old and I still used them. The sound portion also works great. I would sell all my other baby stuff to keep this item. This is nothing like peace of mind.

  • Peace of Mind

I purposely registered for this monitor because of the motion sensor. When our baby was first born, I didn't use in the bassinett at first. Big mistake, I was up all night checking to see if our baby was breathing. After two weeks, I made my husband put it in the bassinett. It was the best thing I ever did. Now, not only is our baby sleeping soundly, but mommy and daddy are too. I highly recommend this monitor.

I am so pleased with this monitor - just the sound monitor alone is fantastic!!! We have been through 3 sound monitors and they were awful - We would hear baseball games and Rev. Jesse Jackson preaching instead of our son!!! A co-worker recommended this monitor to me because our son was sent home on an apnea monitor. Our Dr. siad he could be removed from it at 5 weeks but my husband and I were afraid of taking him off it. So now we have this fantastic monitor and are so pleased with it. I highly recommend it to everyone - (...)

  • An absolute must-have!!!
    By A2LR69ZBDJGXHY on 2005-04-05
I received this monitor as a shower gift (I had registered for it) and was so happy when I received it. We've been using it for quite sometime, as our daughter is almost 10 months old now. It's always worked wonderfully, only alarming when we've taken her out of her crib and forgotten to turn it off.

Tonight I was in the living room and I heard her monitor beep. I thought "That's strange... maybe she's all curled up at the end of the crib?" like I'd heard others say sometimes happens, though it had never happened to us before. I headed to her room and as I turned the doorknob I heard the second beep. I went in and the red light was on and it was about to alarm. She was laying right in the center of her crib and I called her name and she GASPED FOR AIR!!! Even if I hadn't heard the beeps, the alarm would have sounded after 20 seconds and I'm certain that would have startled her.

In any case, I've always loved this monitor for giving me peace of mind, but never moreso than I do right now.

  • The best money you will ever spend- it saved our baby's life!
    By A1XVBHJV4QLVFJ on 2006-03-04
We bought this product thinking it would give us a little extra piece of mind at night so we wouldn't worry about SIDS as much. The alarm went off several times when our baby was about a month old. At first we thought it was malfunctining because our son always seemed fine when we checked on him. One night the sensor alarm sounded and we ran over to check on him and he was not breathing. We gently shook him and he woke and took a huge gasp of air in. It terrified us-- Turns out he was waking up from apneic episodes when the alarm went off -We called our pediatrician, who ordered a pneumogram -

Our son ended up having over 44 episodes of sleep apnea during the pneumogram ranging from 12-18 seconds in a ten hour period. He also had one lasting more than 27 seconds-- which is very scary. Although they consider anything under 20 seconds "normal", his having 44 episodes was considered quite excessive. So our Angelcare sensorpad WAS accurately detecting his sleep apnea - it was catching the episodes that went 20 seconds or longer. I believe that it saved him from possibly becoming a victim to SIDS.

Our pediatrician enrolled our son in the infant monitoring program and he was placed on a portable heart/lung monitor until he was 4 months old. Every night we kept BOTH alarms on-- the hospital grade portable heart and lung monitor, as well as the Angelcare sensor monitor. The respiration light on the hospital monitor flashed AT THE SAME TIME as the Angelcare monitor-- every night I checked it and every night the lights flashed at the same time. This monitor is a GODSEND. Even my son's pulmonologist was impressed when I told him the story. Our son is now 4 1/2 months old and is off the hospital grade heart/lung monitor. Our Angelcare sensor lets us sleep soundly at night knowing that he is okay.

Not only does the sensor pad work, but it is portable. We take it with us when we go on overnight trips - we have used it in friends' cribs that we were using on trips, as well as our own Pack N Play. It also has a sound system with two monitors, which comes in VERY handy.

I have told everyone I know with children about this monitor-- it works and is a must have for anyone having a baby!

  • False peace of mind!!! Please read!!!
    By on 2004-05-14
This monitor does give peace of mind but it could be false. I have been using this monitor for over 14 months now. The interfearance is so bad that I cannot use the audio at all. There has been several times when I have taken my child out of the crib and have forgotten to turn off the monitor. The alarm did not sound after over 2 hours of being on with no baby in the crib. The light just kept binking as if it was picking up the baby's breathing and movements when there was no baby in the crib and over several hours. I have tried to go to the company for help and have recieved terrable customer service. In over the 14 months I have been using this monitor I have also gotten over 20 false alarms, and have never been able to use the audio. I don't think I would trust this monitor (poor quality) but it is better than nothing. That is probably why I kept using it. It is alot of money for a product that you cannot trust. Think twice.

  • For Babies with GERD, this is a must
    By on 2004-06-03
My son has GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease). One of the things we found would make it easier for him to sleep was for him to be on his stomach. By having this monitor, we were able to allow him to sleep on his stomach without fear of SIDS. There were a couple of times when the alarm went off, and our son seemed fine when we got to him, but we also noticed that the alarm itself would startle him, so we believe that the alarm going off actually started him breathing normally again. We found that placing a piece of plywood under his mattress, as per the directions in the manual, helped increase the accuracy of the monitor once he was big enough to start moving around in his crib. This monitor was definately worth the price. Having something to help guard against SIDS is priceless.

  • Great for having peace of mind!
    By A1IWXDXE6546MI on 2004-09-22
I researched a lot of monitors and ultimately decided on this one due to my fear of SIDS. To be honest, I could not fathom how the sensor, which goes underneath the mattress, would possibly be sensitive enough to detect my daughter's breathing. After all, little babies don't move that much when they breathe! But to my great delight, somehow, some way, this monitor is able to detect the subtle breathing of my newborn. I even tested it out by putting a heavy, six-pound book down on the mattress and the monitor beeped after 20 seconds when it did not detect any movement. But when I put my daughter down and she was sleeping peacefully, the monitor did not beep at all. The sensor really gives me peace of mind when I put her on her tummy because I know if there's a problem, it will beep loudly and I can check on my daughter quickly. And the sound functions of this monitor work great also. The baby's nursery and the den are on opposite sides of our house and still, the monitor picks up every sound from that far away. So if you're a worrywart like me, I strongly recommend this monitor!

  • A great monitor BUT
    By A2NTDJRUY7ITAN on 2004-10-03
Babiesrus is selling it for a lot. You can find them a lot cheaper at basically any other store. Sears is selling them for $65. I however, did buy mine at Babies "R" Us and it is a great item.

It has very clear reception, no static

    Never had a false alarm

Looks great in the room/very cute design

    Very easy to hook up

    A great volume range

A great monitor but I do wish Babies R Us would mark down the price as not many want to spend $99. It offers parents a lot of peace of mind and that is worth a lot!

  • Wonderful
    By A2ITCWNARDG9WS on 2005-01-03
After 4 weeks of no sleep - we realized Lucas liked to sleep on his belly. He slept for 5 straight hours on his stomach (during the day while I watched)when we finally caught on. Everytime he was layed on his back he woke up within minutes. I bought this on line after a friend told me about it. It has been wonderful. I no longer worry about laying him down and would definately suggest this to everyone with a newborn. The only time the alarm has gone off is when we forget to shut it off after picking Lucas up.

  • Literally A Life Saver!!!
    By AEEGC1MF828SO on 2005-12-12
This is the first review I have ever written about anything, but I do read everyone elses. That being said, we purchased this monitor before my now 7 1/2 month old son was born, and loved the reviews it had. I have a 5 year old daughter that I was always scared about SIDS with, so I wanted a little peace of mind. I know nothing will take over the job of a parent's watchful eye, but this monitor saved my son the other night. We have never had any false alarms with this monitor. The only time it has ever gone off is if we took our son out before turning it off. While watching a movie the other night, and the monitor right by us, my son was sleeping upstairs. All of a sudden a warning beep went off! 5 seconds later, and me already up the stairs, the 20 second beeps started.

I was so horrified to find my son on his stomach with his face smashed into the bumper pad. I picked him up and he took a huge breath, then cried! I was in shock because my son is crawling and standing up to things now, and very strong. I thought we were in the clear for this type of thing. I was literally shaking and nauseous at the thought of what just happened. We had to keep the bumper in his crib because he kept hitting his head on the bars, but have never had a problem.

The day after, I tested the sensor to see if it just wasn't picking up how far off he was, but it picked up me lightly rubbing the very far side of the mattress...I mean LIGHTLY too.

I was so thankful I had this monitor. I don't even want to say what life might be like now if I didn't.

I have to tell ALL parents out there...take out the bumper and GET THIS MONITOR!!!!

A very thankful MOM of 2

  • 10 stars....
    By AU69ASR0LSSZL on 2004-09-30
I LOVE this monitor and think everyone should purchase one. I am a first time parent and I am petrified of SIDS. This monitor gives me a piece of mind and works great! I am able to relax and sleep a little easier at night. The reception is perfect on the sound and movement sensor. So far, I have had no faulty alarms. I give this monitor 10 stars. This is my most favorite item that I could have purchased for my baby.

  • This product is an absolute MUST buy!!!
    By AUOA54KGEZDRP on 2005-04-12
We would have paid $1,000 for this device. It's perfect. It clicks every time your child breaths and it sounds the alarm after 20 seconds if it doesn't detect any breathing. Given the danger of SIDS, how could you not pay $99 for a device that will alert you when your child stops breathing. You can't put a value on this.

Also, we were worried about the sound part of the monitor with so many folks complaining about it. Don't know what they were talking about, ours is perfect. The sound monitor was 10 times better than the sound only monitor that we had been using. It's clear and loud.

Buy this before you buy the crib, the changing table, the dresser, the hundred different outfits for the kid, anything.

We did a little research on the net before we bought this. There was apparently a study done in Helsinki over 10 years with 8,000 families with a similar crib device: there was not a single incident of SIDS in those 8,000 families.

WHY TAKE THE CHANCE????? Buy it.

  • Angelcare saved my son
    By A2TJYNNIMMKC9C on 2005-07-09
I have boy/girl twins that are now almost 10 months old. I have been very scared of SIDS and that is why I bought two Angelcare motion monitors for my babies. It was expensive with 2 but well worth the money. I slept (when allowed to) so much better, knowing that if one of them stopped breathing, that an alarm would sound. And for the first 8 months of their life, no alarm ever sounded (unless we forgot to turn the monitor off after we had removed one of the babies, which happens a lot in the beginning, but will get better with time) until... of all days, my very first mothers day. That night around 11:45 PM, I heard that horrid beeping sound coming from their room. I ran in there and realized it was my sons monitor. I picked him up and began shaking him and rocking him and he felt cold and looked blue. I thought the worst had happened. But then, he took a deep breath and opened his eyes and has been fine ever since. I think, if we would not have had the monitor, he would have died that night. I cant say enough about these monitors. Just for the peace of mind they give you. Teffeni Brodie, CA.

  • Very poor quality for such a high price!
    By A130J4PDCQDLK2 on 2004-04-16
In addition to the extreme amount of background noise produced by this monitor, our receiver quit working less than a year after we started using it. The wiring started to short out, so we had to duck tape the wire in position in order for the receiver to stay on. A couple of months later it flat out stopped working (in the middle of the night, so we were unable to hear our daughter crying). I would NEVER recommend this product to anyone! If I could have rated it Zero Stars I would have.

  • In the middle
    By AS4ZPUKWKWW0N on 2004-05-22
I myself have never had a problem with this product going off for no reason or not going off at all. Anytime I forget to turn it off and carry my daughter to bed with me it starts beeping before I get to my room! I often hear other people on B, and once mistook a neighbours crying baby for my own as I switched my parents unit to the wrong set. Sensitivity is great and i have a good nights sleep (if the baby lets me)

  • a must have for paranoid moms (like myself)
    By A2EQZUPPFPPJSW on 2004-08-14
This angel monitor has let me sleep at night. I use it with my baby in her crib. I have a split wing house and had to get some sleep in order to take care of my baby without being awakened with every noise (or lack of noise). I had peace of mind and found the system very reliable. It picked up her breathing through the thick mattress and never false alarmed. (Don't forget to turn off before taking baby out of bed or it will alarm awakening baby-yes, it is that reliable.)
*****Warning***** If you have a mobile hanging on your crib, make sure a fan/vent is not blowing on it! That movement is picked up by the angel monitor and should your baby really need you, the alarm will not sound!!!!!!!!
