Best Price: $9.99 $16.99

The classic learning toy is better than ever. Shaped like a barn, See 'n Say teaches your child about 16 different animals and features two unique flipping pages. Kids can point the arrow and pull the lever, then flip the page for more animals to choose from. There is also a new quiz mode. It plays "Old MacDonald" and "Farmer in the Dell" melodies. It requires 3 AA alkaline batteries, which are included. MPN: B7593 - UPC: 027084056549

  • Fun for babies too

The recommended age for See 'n Say is 18 months, but we bought it anyway. Our seven-month old recently started enjoying animal noises we'd make for him. I tried this toy for him in the store and was greeted with the same smile and giggle we got from quacking like a duck for him at home. He is probably far from learning how to pull the handle himself, but we do it for him and he watches with delight. Each night, we read him a few stories before bed and we use See 'n Say the Farmer Says as if it were a book. We hold it in front of my son and pull the handle a few times to hear animal sounds and he thinks he just heard a fabulous tale.

This toy has a half ring that can be flipped back and forth to display different animals. There are 16 animals, which are named and make their individual sounds when the handle is pulled. There is also a song sticker that plays Old MacDonald had a Farm or The Farmer in the Dell. And there is a quiz sticker that asks you to find the animal based on the name of the animal or its sound. The farmer is on an arrow in the middle and you point it toward whichever sticker you want and then pull the handle.

I only have two minor complaints with this toy. The handle sometimes sticks on the way back up and makes a soft grinding sound. Also, the volume is a bit loud and there is no volume control button. Overall, it's a great toy.

  • educational and fun!

This toy is great! Does 16 different animals sounds. Sings Old McDonald through one time. Each time using a different animal name and sound, of the 16 animals. A quiz mode to find the animal that makes a certain sound. The handle is easy to pull, for a 2 yr old anyway. He imitates the animal sounds. It uses batteries, so it sounds a lot better than the standard see n' say. The batteries have lasted long in it, 3AA.

  • this is terrific

I bought this for our grandson Ian a few months ago. Its so cute and really does teach a small child a lot about animals. Very clear, easy to handle and operate and bright colored which I think is important to small children. Its a great buy and will provide hours and hours of entertainment for a small child. A must have. I liked it so much that I pre-ordered the new ABC one for another grandson.

I am not sure what is going on with this toy and the companies that are selling it through Amazon. This toy, made by Fisher-Price is a $10 item. You can get it from ToysRUs, Target, Walmart, etc. I don't know why it is selling for so much more ($80-$90 range). I have e-mailed the two companies selling this item, B&H Outlet and Wizard Entertainment to find out why it is so expensive. I am still awaiting a reply. I would hate for someone to pay so much for such a simple toy; although, I would like to think no one would.

  • Horrible toy, good reviews for the memories

    By AT144FV7J1RGN on 2005-12-30
This is a bad replacement for the classic! It uses batteries so the lever is useless. It does nothing but make the sounds unaudible with extra rumbling. It doesnt need the extra page because the extra animals on the other page, the song, and the quiz are all unrecognizable. The reduced size is a plus, but the handle is hard to pull for my 2 year old. So no sounds come out since the handle didnt get pulled correctly. I remember the classic being a much better toy because it would play on all pulls, the sounds were great, and the size was perfect for laptop play. Blah, for $10 it was not worth it!

  • So Cute!

It seems that we have had a toy like this in our household forever. From the time my children were little to now sharing them with my grandchildren. This one is adorable. The pictures are colorful, the sounds clear and it sure does bring a smile to the little ones. I think it's a great teaching tool and just a wonderful way to share another precious moment with the child you love.

I was very impressed with how clear the voices were and how each animal sounded just like them. Also, the toy was very colorful making it pleasing to look at.

  • FARMER SAYS
    By ASPZ6ECGYQXUN on 2005-09-22
LIKE THE OLD TOY MY DAUGHTER AND SON HAD BUT WITHOUT THE STUPID STRING. MY GRANDSON SITS ON MY LAP FOR HOURS AND NOW KNOWS HOW THE COW GOES. IT ALSO HAS A BONUS OF 2 SONGS WHICH HE JUST LOVES TO DANCE TO AND HE'S ONLY 10 MONTHS. THIS TOY REALLY KEEPS HIS ATTENTION. IT WAS SURE WORTH THE MONEY.

  • Great for kids who love animals
    By A2DXZME4T176WY on 2004-11-29
My son received this for his first birthday, and he loved it right off the bat. He loves animals and all the noises are great. He's now 16 months and still needs help pulling the lever, but I think soon he'll be able to use it on his own.

  • As annoying as any battery toy... but my daughter loves it!
    By A3BY18ZHVYG5C0 on 2005-06-01
We don't have very many battery toys because they drive mom and dad crazy... but we had to make an exception for this one. My 20 month old daughter spotted it at a playgroup, ran around with it the entire time, protested whenever another kid wanted to use it, pulled the lever and shouted animal names and sounds, and danced every time a song played. Apparently it was best she got her own! The toy is a huge hit in our house and even though she already knows all the animals I doubt she will lose interest anytime soon.

For the reviewer who said it was too loud: I agree, but then I find most battery toys too loud. At our house we use some simple invisible tape over the speaker. Our daughter never notices it and it cuts down on the sound greatly.

  • My 22 months old daughter love it as much as I love it when I was a kid!!
    By A2HODZ0I0U5FPL on 2005-08-25
Of course I had the old version when I was a kid, and this one is much better....The size and the design are just great!!!

Despite what another reviewer said it does make all the sounds of all the animals, and I think they're pretty good, too.

The flip flop page that has it's a great idea, and it has the option to play "Old Mac Donald had a farm" and it changes the animal every time to pull the handle, and it has "The Farmer in the dell" song...

Besides has the option of Quiz, which ask you: Which animal make this sound?

I used it a lot with my 22 months old daughter while we're in the car, the train or a bus, and she would stay pulling and pulling forever... And I'm talking about a pretty active little girl!!

About the age, I think the educational part is actually 18 months and up, but talking about the fun part you could buy it for any baby younger than 18 months... Of course, it's gonna be imposible for a 6 months old baby to put the arrow in an specific animal and then pull the handle to listen the sound....But, is a great option for a big brother/sister to play with a younger brother/sister... The older one puts the arrow in the animal and then they show the younger one to pull the handle!! I don't remember until what age I used this toy, but I do remember that I was already a big kid and I was still playing with it.

Believe me!! The would play with that for a while and they could both enjoyed!!

  • I loved it but the kids don't!
    By A39E7IWNHY62JT on 2005-11-22
I loved the old version of this toy and purchased it for my two kids, now 4 yr. and 20 months. They liked it for the first hour and now rarely play with it. I am hoping my 20 month will enjoy it at some point but we purchased it a year ago. They usually enjoy the things we buy but this wasn't a hit for some reason.

  • Great update on a classic
    By A1638VB5ZOT70B on 2006-05-31
We all had one of these with a pull string, but the new version is a little smaller (better for little laps) and has an easier to maneuver lever. My little girl loves it. And the quiz mode, where it asks the child to identify an animal by name or sound, is very educational. We love it.

  • Plan on helping
    By A2FIUKOW2KM9FE on 2006-07-23
We got this toy for our daughter's first birthday. She cannot operate the handle so we must pull it for her. She especially enjoys the songs. The arrow must be pointed just-so to make sure it works every time. Definately a step up from the old pull string, but the lever could be easier to use. It is a very cute learning toy, as the animal sounds are real and the pictures are clear.

  • Good to see this still around
    By ARAS5VERQ8BH2 on 2006-11-07
I've been observing some toy stores for a developmental psych class I'm taking and it's been fun to see some old toys that I remember from ages ago.

I had a "Farmer Says" back in the day. I got it in 1988 at age two and played with it for a few years after that. This one keeps the charm of the old one yet has a few significant improvements:

    1. More stuff. Last I checked "Farmer Says" didn't have as much variety as this one.
    2. Quiz mode. You can check your understanding now!
    3. The big one: no more pull string! Anyone who had a See 'n' Say in the 1980s knows about these. They could get pulled too far and cause problems. The lever that replaces it appears to work much better!

The other thing I like about this toy is that there is no character propaganda on it. I get sick of seeing Dora the Explorer or Spiderman on every single toy that's out there.

Highly recommend this one for anyone with 2-5 year olds.

  • It broke so soon!
    By A2XU5P79W3NDMK on 2006-11-22
I bought this toy for my daughter and son. They are not rough players and have toys that work very well for quite some time...not this one. It was all over within the week. The animals and page do not match up at times. The toy jams and no sounds come from it until maybe the third try. My children have many leapfrog items..most are 2 years old..still perfect.
This has been the only toy that actually broke.

  • Bring back the old one!
    By AAZ1FR5ZDN7JP on 2006-12-11
We bought this for my daughter after remembering how much we liked it when we were kids! But it's not the same... instead of pulling a string, there's a lever that is too hard for my daughter to pull. And the sound is terrible! It's muffled, loud, and they talk too fast for her to say it with them. Thumbs down from me.

  • What happened to the PULL STRING?
    By A19N3U6I6P66GM on 2007-09-22
Even though our two girls love it, it bothers us that this thing needs batteries! We remember and like the old-style with the string, or the older lever ones that didn't need batteries. EVERYTHING, it seems, needs batteries, and it is upsetting that this old favorite has gone that route.

  • price is waaaaay off!
    By A2DL09SCJH7TFE on 2007-12-14
my 15 month old loves this toy, esp. the song. HOWEVER--this is a $10 or less toy! Not sure what's going on with amazon or these vendors, but several other toys' prices are way off (bounce n spin zebra, for example). BUYER BEWARE!

  • The Farmer Says: Poo Poo
    By A3NLQ0LQ3ZN7LM on 2008-01-21
Man . . way to ruin a classic! Toys are made so crappy now. This use to be a cool toy. .They make it way el cheapo now. Save yr money. Mr. Potato Head is still good, magnadoodle is good, some toy pianos are still good, . . . we are buying alot of natural wooden toys (i.e. wood blocks, giant puzzles, we even found the classic corn popper push toy in wood, real instruments that are kid friendly, etc. ). . . not this 10 cent plastic waste of time type of stuff anymore. Work too hard for the money. damn. you can buy sterling silver action figures for these prices! ! ! you could almost buy your own damn REAL farm. ha ha

  • A Different Story - Be Careful
    By A3IYAPDK0135D4 on 2008-05-31
Was looking for the same toy I grew up with but this one was half in size and not loud at all. Hearing the sounds are a big problem. Did not hold the childs attention well at all. Very disappointing. F-P could have made this one better - potentially taking safety too far and overiding the performance factor.

  • The new see and say
    By A1UNUEWH8NS9D4 on 2005-05-15
When I purchased this product I expected it to be larger, like the one I had as a child 30 or so years ago. This streamlined version no longer has a pull chord, there is a lever, and it is smaller and has a neat flip page so that more animals can be used. My 14 month daughter likes to sit on my lap and listen to the real sounding animal sounds, but so far she has not been able to pull the lever by herself. She especially likes the music that is played when the arrow is pointed to the musical notes. I would recommend this toy as a good start for teaching animal sounds, animal recognition, and fine motor coordination.

  • Buyer beware!
    By AWICKUT903RFL on 2006-03-04
I just purchased this for my 11 month old son. I got it home from Walmart ($10) and realized four of the animal didn't make any noises! It was two on each 'page' in the same locations, so I knew it was a defect. I took it back and had to try each animal in the store to make sure it worked. It did and after reading the other reviews, it sounds like some are defective. So I recommend checking all the animal sounds (even though you may feel stupid doing that in a busy store!) before you buy. My son loves this and he doesn't have a problem even at 11 months pulling the lever down himself. He pulls it so much sometimes we don't get to hear the end of what the animal says before it goes on to the next one!

  • Love it!
    By A3B2MBFCORMP0C on 2006-05-30
I read others' reviews before ordering, and upon receiving this cute See 'n Say toy I am thoroughly satisfied. It is SO adorable and a great way to teach the animals and sounds. Haven't had any problem with the wrong animals speaking. Love the quiz part of its features. It IS a little loud, but I was able to fix that easily by opening it up and placing a piece of cloth over the speaker to muffle it a bit. I highly recommend this toy for all young'uns!

  • spins too fast
    By on 2006-08-30
it may talk really well, but the arrow spins too fast as if the toy was broken. on the pull string ones, the arrow was spinning at perfect speed, if the arrow spinned that fast, it was broken, I may be old fashion in the toy department, but something really tells me that the battery isn't in there

  • Perfect for Little Ones
    By A2HPBG4XL0UX0H on 2006-11-14
My daughter is almost 18 months old, and has trouble pulling the handle on the big see 'n says, even though she loves them. When I saw this one in the store, we tried it out and she loved it! She pulled the handle easily, and I was pleased to see that the middle piece flipped over to reveal even more sounds. It even has a quiz mode and two songs. I decided to purchase this on [...] since it is cheaper here than in stores, and I got it shipped for free. My daughter will be excited to see this under the Christmas tree!

  • Every child should have one
    By on 2006-12-01
My daughter loves it. It is a classic toy I remember having one myself. It is easy to use and toddlers learn the names and sounds of the animals.

  • A great toy to grow with...
    By A3I477HCMETNLY on 2006-12-06
The Farmer Says is such a neat toy! I love that it "grows" with a child. Initially my son was only interested in hearing the animal sounds. He then progressed to operating the toy independently. After learning to operate the toy, he can answer the "Quiz" questions (i.e. "What animal makes this sound?"). Personally, I like the smaller size of this toy as well. Overall, a really great toy.

  • OK to add to your Kid's collection
    By A28T03F7LNXYAI on 2006-12-07
Its not a great addition, but an Ok one. My Son is 16months old. I feel that the sounds are not crisp and am not sure if he understands them well. LeapFrog's Magnetic Fridge farm has been one of his favorites' and so I bought this as there are more animals in this one.
