Monster Cable MP HTS 1000 PowerCenter with Clean Power Stage 2 (v.2.0)x$109.99

(31 reviews)

Best Price: $149.99 $109.99

Harmful power surges and voltage spikes can travel up the AC power line and damage connected equipment. Lightning, automatic garage doors, power tools, refrigerators and fluorescent lights all cause power surges and voltage spikes that affect phone lines and coax cables. Monster's Multirole SurgeGuard detects harmful power surges and voltage spikes before they reach components. This PowerCenter HITS 1000 features special surge protection for phone lines and coax cables used for DSS, DIVX /DVD and cable TV connections. Other surge protectors can result in as much as 20 to 30 dB of signal loss, which ultimately affects the output performance of coax connections. Monster's ultra-low loss RF circuitry provides virtually no signal loss to maintain peak performance. Best of all, an audible surge alarm and visual surge indicator warn you of harmful surges and let you know you're getting the most advanced protection available. • Unit did not work with my Direct TV

    By A1PZRK5KYUI97E on 2004-10-11
This unit did not work at all with my Direct TV receiver. I have a new Direct TV HD-Tivo DVR-250. It's an all in one unit. After hooking it up correctly, I could not receive any satellite signal. Removed this surge protector and everything went back to normal. I don't think it supports everything. Better check before you buy.

  • It really does work!

    By A1C340DCSMEL0P on 2004-12-13
First, I can't comment on the HDTV and Satellite issues mentioned by other reviewers so I would check that out before buying. But with that being said this was a great purchase for me. And I highly recommend it.

I have been looking at fuzzy text and faint, slow moving horizontal ghosts on my Sony Trinitron TV for a while now. My Xbox connection is composite, my DVD is S-Video, my Cox cable is...well cable. For the most part I figured the poor visuals were due to the TV being low quality and the connection method. But now I know better! Let me give a brief example...

A few months ago I borrowed the S-video connector for the Xbox so I could see what the quality would look like. Of course the S-video on the Xbox rendered an image that was at least 50% better quality than the composite. That is what I would expect. I gave it back and resolved to get one later.

Last week I got the HTS-1000 and hooked up all my equipment. When I fired up the Xbox (hooked up via composite) the picture quality was about the same as it was when I hooked up the S-video. Even my wife, who thinks I am what too critical about such things, noticed the difference. She told me that she didn't expect to see a difference. She doesn't notice subtle quality in audio and video, but was surprised that she saw such a marked difference.

The cable TV is clearer, the DVD has more vivid colors...some of the improvement is hard to describe other than just saying the picture is soooo much better.

I will say this though, my home is small. The kitchen, with its high power drawing appliances, is close to the living room. All these appliances contribute to the dirty power. You could see less improvement if your home is laid out differently or have newer appliances.

I didn't give it 5 stars because it is bulky. It has plenty of room for power bricks, but it has a high profile. The strip that Monster sells that has a slim profile doesn't have room for bricks. Also, the schema for what devices are switched and what aren't doesn't make sense to me, but it is nice to have 4 outlets that are constant power.

Summary: If you have lines, ghosts, poor color, whatever...try this out it could make a world of difference.

  • Monster Support says "MKII" version will support HD

    By A2O343PHXQ2IUY on 2006-11-29
This product is on the way to my house currently. I wanted to let people know that according to Monster support, they updated the 1000 to the 1000 MKII. The MKII version will support HD satellite and cable. I don't have it yet to personally testify but it is coming.

4 stars because I had to put something there.

Note the MKII is not in the title but is in the product details section.

  • Delivers as Promised

    By A3JN3KKON08QBM on 2005-05-12
I just got a Panasonic Plasma ED TV and was concerned to get a good surge protector that might also enhance the picture quality. Before getting the Monster HTS 1000 I noticed some annoying picture glitches occasionally cropping up (I get a directv standard digital signal): a kind of vague line that, especially when background colors were pretty homogenous, you could follow moving up the screen; the kind of thing you could easily overlook but once you notice it, you can't help seeing it and it drives you crazy. Since running everything going into the tv through the Monster 1000, it's completely disappeared. So, this thing really does seem to deliver on what it promises: a cleaner picture.

  • Not a bad powerstrip

    By AFRVLWY7487J8 on 2007-03-08
This powerstrip is good, but recently it caused two of my HD channels to drop out when the cable was connected through it. If you read the instructions, it tells you that all connections to your equipment must go through the PowerCenter in order to be covered by their warranty. When the channels stopped working, I called the cable company and they came out to see what the problem was. The cable guy right away said its probably the powerstrip because he has seen this many times before. I doubted him because it was working fine. Turned out he was right. He put the cable directly into the cable box instead of going through the powerstrip, and the channels came back. The connections were tight, and all the rest of the channels were fine, so that wasn't the problem.

Beyond that issue, the powerstrip works fine.

  • Big Difference in Sound
    By A2846UN7Y1KXSQ on 2006-12-02
I bought this when when my wife bought me a 46" Sony LCD. All of my stero components were plugged into ancient multi plug outlets etc. Let me tell you - this thing breathed new life into my stereo. Surround sound is cleaner, bass is heavier - just better in general. I'm sure it improves the picture as well - although I don't have a reference point. It's worth it just to have my stereo back. You WILL notice a difference. I was blown away

  • Save your money
    By A1XUOWZFBQ40UH on 2007-07-26
I reviewed all surge protectors from monster, belkin, and other "big" names for the past few months. I decided on this one since I just bought a 46" Samsung LCD and wanted to maximize the clarity of the Comcast Digital Cable. It does absolutely nothing to clear up the picture for the digital and HD signals. I reviewed all the major cites on these things and thought that I made the right purchase at the time. Save your money and buy a cheaper model that will do the exact same thing!!!

  • Monster HTS 1000 MKII
    By A1I01OWKGQ2U4I on 2006-06-12
5 stars. I'm now a believer. Skeptic, until I heard the difference with my own ears. I have a very nice 2-channel stereo system. PhaseTech speakers, Rotel 130W amp, B&K digital preamp, Pioneer SACD/DVD. I thought I needed a sub, but with this power strip added into my system I don't need a sub. Befor I could barly tell if my speakers were in or out of phase. Now it's obvious that I'm in phase throughout the spectrum. The imaging improved, the bass response is much lower and smoother. No boom, just so much better all the way around. Best bang for my buck yet! I have 3 rooms with gear so I bought 3 HTS PowerCenters; 1000, 1000MKII, and 2000. I noticed the huge improvement with all of them, but if I had too choose one I'd go with the MKII. I wonder if the other more expensive models could be that much better. If you doubt these things are for real, trust me - they made a great improvement to my $3500 stereo system.

  • Does not work with my Dish HD service
    By AFK2OK0K6CYV on 2007-12-11
The product was certainly well made and heavy. However, it does not work with my Dish High Def Satellite service. When hooked up to the Dish per the instructions, the television signal will not come through the unit. When disconnected and plugged in the old way, the Dish signal comes through. I found this unsatisfactory because this is the newest version of this unit, the HTS1000 Mk II. I have read that older units will not work with Direct or Dish service; this was the newest unit and was supposed to have the bugs out of it. I spoke with two audio/video professionals about this problem and they agreed; the units do not permit the Dish Hi Def signal to pass through the unit. Case closed.

  • Monster Connections
    By A1DVLONUETECM9 on 2006-07-19
I purchased the Monster Cable MP HTS 1000 without reading the reviews,(which I don't usually do) for the simple reason of where I purchased my hdtv, Samsung HLS-5687w they were trying to sell me but for a $150, which was too much. I plugged in my equipment to the monster and at first there was no picture only sound. I have directv and they have a connection which allows you to receive digital and analog signals through the same cable. That connection needs to be placed after the monster in the connection loop. After switching around the cables I had a picture again. I can't really see an improvement in the picture quality (HD is beautiful) I bought the monster basically for the protection.

  • Good Filter
    By A1OK0GSI9I9V5T on 2006-08-23
Does removes external noise originating at common home AC outlet, as advertised. Previously, hardly perceptible low level audio noise ruined music played at low volume through VAIO laptops and Bose Quiet headphone.

  • I don't know about video improvement, but definately audio
    By A39V3NFNJFYQW8 on 2006-08-28
I bought a new 61" 1080p TV and wanted something decent to protect it. I have a full Dolby 5.1 home theater setup. When I hooked up everything, the first thing I noticed was the diference in sound. With all the settings equal and the only change being the Monster HTS 1000 MKII, it was immediately apparent that the subwoofer was much more substantial and the surround speakers had more impact. Since I was sceptical about the whole thing, I had to attribute the improvement to the HTS 1000. I have not hooked up HD to it yet, so I can't confirm or deny the issues others are having with the video connection. Also, since the TV is new, there is no before and after comparison. However, I can say this much, even a TV this size, without an HD feed, has an excellent picture while plugged in to the Monster HTS 1000.

  • Excellent Service and Quick Delivery
    By on 2004-04-22
This was a great purchase with no hassles or problems. Very quick delivery using ground shipping. I will use them again in the future.

  • awesome product!
    By A2WVGXBSJ17VQ9 on 2007-03-10
Definite must buy if you want the best sound and picture from your TV and Sound system. Major improvement over my old powerstrip.

  • Protected Electric outlet
    By A1SERKQN79JJL6 on 2007-03-28
I saved a bunch of money over the retail store and feel secure about protection for my LCD TV.

  • I know it works!
    By A32RUSNXS6E7BB on 2007-04-10
I recently had a noticable spike in our power that woke up my whole family. All our cable boxes went bananas except for the one I had hooked up. I have a Westinghouse LCD and the picture is a little clearer now. But I can't give it a full 5 rating only because I still don't think the price tag justifies its functionality. However, I promise you that if you buy it from amazon you will pay less!!! Best buy has this same product for 179.99 plus Taxes. Amazon had it for 102 w/free shipping. And with prime, I got it in two days. Just this purchase made the prime membership worth it. Getting stuff in two days is cool. and i didn't pay california sales taxes. sweeeet

  • Excellent Power conditioner
    By A3UL90QDZUJJZV on 2007-05-07
Monster products yield high quality generally. They just tend to be pricey at certain retailers. Do you need 'em? Well when you're laying out thousands for an HD TV, for a hundred bucks more---it's good insurance and if it reduces spurrious noise produced by all the other electrics in your home my thought was why not. The device here has plenty of outlets and you can tell by its heft that it's manufactured with high quality components. Most satellite providers will tell you that the traps for the incoming satellite will hurt the incoming signal on HD---so the installer told me to bypass the filter for that use. Don't go for the chaep strips out there. Buy it you'll like it and it'll likely be the last one you buy.

  • Worth it
    By A10X3HUC8JKTFB on 2007-05-19
This was extremly worth it. When the cable tv was running through the stage 2 cleaner it helped to deaden the hum found in the speakers and mostly eliminate interference lines in the picture.

Receives cable HD signals just fine.

Plus Monster has a life-time warranty. Something happens to it just send it in for a replacement.

I don't recommend most of Monster's items but this was one that turned out to have been worth it. Recommend a reference power center though if you can find one on a serious discount and/or [...] as so happens now and then.

  • Monster Is The Way To Go

Item works just as it should. Amazon by far the least expensive and now I worry no more about my entertainment equipment

  • Best surge protection

Monster makes a great product. Had surge and it saved my Sony KDL46XBR3.

    really work ......

  • Seems to work as expected
    By A35ST4A38L8RBY on 2007-01-17
This is a robust peice of equipment that seems to be made with exceptional quality. I would highly recommend this product for the price. Much less than best buy!

  • Go for the lowest price
    By A3M6QD5VLKSWHV on 2007-01-18
I guess this thing is good. Frankly, it's not as though it's performance is really evident. I knew I needed a multi-port surge protector for my new HD TV...and the home theater system, Xbox-360, Xbox, etc. etc. The unit seems very solid and had excellent ratings. Monster is notorious for being way overpriced for cables, etc. While this wasn't cheap, the price at Beach Audio was far lower (30+%) than CC, among others.

  • Impressed
    By ACZ6NWSH9DPGD on 2007-02-03
I was skeptical that this product would work, but it did make a noticeable difference in my picture of my Samsung 42" plasma. Not only do I no longer see the noise that I did when the fridge or dryer was running, but the contrast and clarity have improved.

  • Sub woofer cable
    By AJEVHCY9X8XKB on 2007-03-08
The product is a great product for a very cheap price. The problem I had is it took several weeks for the company to just send this item in the standard mail. I also tried to contact the company and they have no phone number and they don't respond to e-mail. I could have bought this item for a few dollars more at Radio Shack and I would have had it that day. Overall if want want it cheap you must sacrifice something....

  • Monster MP HTS1000
    By A3SD1YR4Q314OP on 2007-03-20
Perfect for Big screen HD home systems. Almost overkill but best value out there.

  • works fine - shows wires
    By ADXUAYFDQAT8N on 2007-08-28
this protector i am sure works fine, but it is not the one you want if you have limited space for hiding wires.
my recommendation would be to get a protector that the wires plug into the back. you can either stack the protector or put on a shelf, and have it blend with your your reciever and home theater.

  • great product
    By A2BT5VRSCSDX2T on 2007-11-05
definitely helped improve the picture quality of my 1080p LCD screen, it also organized all my cables behind my tv. It gives me peace of mind to know that my expensive TV is not going to be compromised in case of a power outage...that plus it avoids interference from other equipment which improves quality of picture furthermore. Overall, very satisfied with the product...it was very cheap too compared to buying it in stores...sheapest one i found, even returned the one that i got from PC richards coz amazon was cheaper...

  • Good surge protector
    By A4DT1XNGF77F6 on 2007-12-18
I have this connected to my 40" Samsung LCD and the picture is amazing. Before using this product turning on lights would make the picture flicker, but now it is GONE. Quite a few outlets for power and antenna. I had the antenna directly into the tv, but tried to go through the surge protector. It actually cleared a few channels up, so I was impressed. Overall, good product and recommended.

PS. The surge protector is large (normal surge protector on steroids), so look at the dimensions.

  • works but spike fried it
    By A3QMQPUKRJM36L on 2008-03-24
first spike my house ever had fried this product . i have know idea if this product helped or not . the spike fried an xbox that was not hooked up to a surge protector . but it should have some sort of a reset if ther is a spike.

Works as advertised but I did not see a change. I bought the powercenter to protect my equipment and piece of mind. Great quality product compared to others.
