  • Solid watch with useful features

    By A3EZ68YO4ISMJ on 2005-06-18
Since I purchased mine over 14 months ago, I am happy with my Ironman. I selected this watch for the Flix feature which allows the wearer to activate the Indiglo light by a flick of the wrist (no button pushing!). This featue really works. Interestingly enough, it is "smart" enought to come on when purposefully flicked but stays off during other movements such as running or active sports.

I also bought this Ironman model for the traditional rubber wrist strap. Alot of current models have either crappy non-replaceable rubber bands or woven nylon bands. I wore the stock band until the loop for securing the loose end of the strap broke. Ironically I replaced the band with an after-market nylon band.

The watch face has some scratches on it, but I have used it rather hard during outdoor sports and construction. Otherwise, the watch stands up to some serious use.

Function and timing features are typical Timex. 100 lap memory is nice, but I never use it. I do use the timer though with its repeating options, however.

Summarily, this watch is durable and loaded with useful features especially the Flix Indigo control.

  • Greatest watch of all time!

    By on 2005-10-19
The other reviewers apparently can't read the user's manual. All the missing functionality they describe or problems with buttons is the result of not reading and understanding their users manual. It does all those things they said are missing and much much more!

I've had several different watches attempting to fulfill my extreme functionality needs including calculator, databank, etc watches. This watch beats them all with it's simple yet effective functions.

The databank is great for storing important phone numbers that you don't use often enough to remember but which are important in a bind. These slots are extra useful because the are oversized...instead of exactly enough spaces for a 10 digit phone number, they have enough for a couple phone numbers plus description.

The 5 (yes FIVE) alarms are great for the many reminders we all need during our modern busy lives. Get up, meeting at 11, meeting at 2, pick up kids, bed/story time, etc. They even allow you to pinpoint a particular date if you know you have an event coming up in the future that you will forget later.

The stop watch and count down timers both let you split and cut the functionality into multiple sections, so you can do things unheard of on other watches, like have a 15 minute countdown, followed by a 5 minute break, followed by a 10 minute countdown. With the stopwatch you can record event after event, lap upon lap, many many sub-divides of time for any need...and then it does some summarizing calculations at the end providing statistics on the events you recorded...what other watch does that?!

It includes two timezones - very handy for that popular trip you make or that friend you are always calling in another timezone.

It includes a variety of quick-views and innovations that make all this functionality run smoothly. If you can read the manual.

To top it all off, it has the Flix system for hands-free night light viewing...what more could you want.

I searched high and low through every major manufacturers web catalog, through store shelves, through anything I could get my hands on, for all these functions in one watch, and THIS IS IT. This is the ONLY watch known to man that has all of this in one neat package with simple operation via just the rigth number of buttons and innovations.

I just hope they keep making it. I like to renew my watch every few years since they tend to get a little dirty over time, and I hope that TimeX sees the unique and extraorinary value of this watch and keeps making it without trying to modernize it or fashionize it. It is the best watch just as it is.

  • Great Watch for Sports Training !!

    By A1Z4930RTKRTKV on 2006-01-07
I purchased this item to use on my swimming practice...

I have been doing some pace training and I need the countdown function and the Chrono as well...
And it works perfect... Although many might mention that just about every clock has this kind of functions nowadays... BUT...
..What I like about this watch is the memory on it :-)
It will store my practice time with the Average Time, Best Time and all Laps and Splits on it, and it stores by Day (year/month/day)!!
And with a 100 Memory for it.. I have plenty to keep up with..

The feel of the buttons is something that helps a lot when you have to do it yourself (press the buttoms and swim at the same time)...

A Countdown Timer that starts the Chrono right after it ends is perfect for some quick time tracking as well...
The ability to set the amount of Reps at the countdown and with different intervals is also a a great "trainer"....

The Watch has also a MEMO Function which I do not think I shall be using, but for some it might be quite handy, the memo with the multi function alarm.

It fits well and the Flix Technology (I really like that) works Great, with just the right movement the Indigo light comes on...
    Really Cool...

If you are looking for a REAL Sports watch the this is the ONE !
You might also play with it (like I did) at the Timex Website, where they have a interactive demo of it.

Loved and a Big Fan of it now...

  • Solid, but not without its faults

    By A2FKP0GJ184DYI on 2005-09-09
Solid watch. Served me well. But the last comment nailed my complaint: change the battery and you'll kill your watch. I used the watch happily for years, and then the battery finally died. I bought a new battery and some of those tiny screwdrivers to get the back off -- this is tough work, as the strap also needs to come off first. Next, the battery is held in by some foil casing. I did get this off, and I successfully replaced the battery. I closed the back, being very careful to put the watertight ring back in place as well as I could. I used the watch for a few more days and then went for a swim with it. The watch died.
The watch uses different buttons for starting and stopping the stopwatch. After a really hard run, I have accidentally hit the the start/lap button and thus lost my time for the run. I've also used the lap button for mile splits and accidentally stopped the running time.
I guess I will probably try a different watch this time, though this one did serve me pretty well. I can't really see why this aging watch should sell at such a premium to the others in the category. Frankly, I can't see why this watch should cost $60 when one considers the simultaneous deflation and improvement in other digital categories.

  • Solid, and performs well with original battery.

    By AVOIOYHCIBG4J on 2005-09-05
I bought this watch 4 years ago and have run 3 marathons with it and numerous 10Ks. I have been relatively happy with it. It performs well, though I found some operations confusing and not always intuitive. There are 6 buttons, and at mile 15 if you are not being deliberate, it is fairly easy to get them confused--especially the two on the face, one of which is used to record splits, the other of which stops the chronograph. More than once, I hit split rather than stop at the end of the run, and thus also timed the entire trip home to my logbook.

Some of the features are worthless, like the memo, though I guess this should not count against the watch. I also never used the timer for anything (distinct from the chronograph). They just hang back there walking anguished through the never-never land of unused features.

My one real complaint about this watch only came after four years of relatively happy ownership and operation. That was when I went to change the battery, which requires a PhD in electrical engineering.

I do not know if the battery compartment has been re-engineered since I bought this watch 4 years ago, but the watch face has remained identical. If the battery is the same, you should consider this watch as having a one-battery lifetime. Unscrew the four tiny screws in back and remove the back cover, and you will confronted by a thin steel plate over the battery that must somehow be removed. I can't even describe how that thing was attached--there were four little "hooks" that reached down into the battery's guts to hold it--but I swear, it must have been soldered in place. No matter how I pried, poked, or pulled, that thing was not going anywhere. Finally, I got the plate pulled off through brute force, and now the watch is screwed up. It spontaneously resets, and I lose all my data.

So now, I must buy a new watch. I am not sure if I will get another Ironman, but I am sure that I could do much worse than this watch. I'll just have to budget for yet another one at the end of one battery life-span.

  • Doubles as a Basic Pilots Watch
    By A2FKGLQE2ZFLEH on 2005-11-16
I purchased this watch for use during pilot training. It keeps 2 time Zones [one Zone can be used for Local time the other can be used for Zulu Time]. I use the "Crono" for keeping tabs of each leg of a flight to see if it matches the flight plan. The "Timer" can be set to count down time remaining for the calculated fuel burn and the "Memo" can be used to store Tower Frequencies. I recommend going to Timex where they have a virtual watch that you can try all the functions and settings.

  • it's ok... does the job
    By A8XWFK5KKYXZ7 on 2005-07-15
Overall, this watch is OK. It lacks some key features such as the basic silent mode (there is no way to turn off the beeping sound when you push the buttons to set up alarm or when you push buttons to use chronos). Also, it does not have a simple way to reset the chronos after taking measurements. It seems like the only way to reset or clear the time taken is to first save and then delete.

Moreover, it has some features that are unecessary such as the memo (how many people would use the watch to record notes?). The alarm allows you to specify the month and the date but, i am not sure how that can be helpful. Instead, I would prefer to have features in the alarm where you can set/specify a range such as weekdays or weekends.

I admit, the watch is one of the best looking of the timex watches (I got the black one). And I gave a four star because after looking at other watches, this one is the best at what it does - digital watch with chronos (100 lap). However, after purchasing I wished that the features and usability was a bit more enhanced (at least to the level of the other ironman triathlon watches such as the model #5E251).

  • simple but really useful
    By A2RTSRUK9HN00O on 2006-02-24
It is very light so it is comfortable to use. The alarm is just loud enough to get your attention and not so annoying. The 5 alarm setting is very useful because during my 12-hr work shift, I need to be reminded of a lot of things, clocking in for work, clocking out for break, etc. The two time setting is likewise helpful because we use the military time at work and I'm not the person who is good at remembering things like 2100hrs is 9pm and 1530hrs is 330pm and so on, I just get confused. I use the 2 time zone (T1 and T2) features to help me with it. I set them at the same time but the other one is military and I just need to press one button to switch one to the other. I'm still not familiar with other features just yet but I'm sure I'll get used to them. The only problem I have now is that I need to press continuously on the light button if I need it for a long time.

  • I like it
    By A10OJBRKRZIOCR on 2006-07-23
The watch is everything I wanted. The only thing I would like to see improved is the instructions. The diagrams and text are a bit vague, but once you get the hang of operating it, the watch is easy to use.

  • Good watch for a good price
    By A3MNK9O34W0M6W on 2006-03-23
This watch works very well and is tough. There are no scratches and it still looks brand new after a few months. Its easy to use and program. The watch has many useful features and an indiglo display that is easy to read.

  • Great Workout Watch and the Flix Feature is a Nice Gimmick!
    By A2C7BOQVFH1HLE on 2006-12-18
This is an excellent workout watch at a decent price too! Once I figured out how to activate the Flix feature by pressing down the light button for a couple of seconds until I heard the beep, I also realised that the Flix feature could be deactivated with the same actions too. Although I've not needed to use most of the other functions as yet, it's nice to know that I can if I wanted to. It's also remarkably lightweight and the watch face is aesthetically pleasing and I also like the strap. My only concern is finding a suitable replacement once the rubber inevitably wears out over the coming years. Overall a great watch at a reasonable price. Recommended!

I have loved this type of watch for quite some time now I really cant remember how many years now but its been the best. It has 5 alarm settings which I use constantly. My wife gets up to it since she still works @ 04:30 then 5 min. later It will go off again. I have it set then for my grand kids to pick up and take them to school. and then last but not least my baby grand daughter while my daughter in=law goes to work, while my son is in Iraq. and Then of course I have it also set for Iraq time zone also. I guess by now you feel sorry that you asked huh? I can go on and say that I also have it set for watering my grass for 10 min. at a time. Thanks for asking.

  • Cheaper at Walmart.com
    By AKMIR1QCOQ1RM on 2006-06-28
I know there is no price match, but Walmart.com is advertising the same watch for under $40.

  • I wish it was finer
    By AWOGSZ8IOK2EU on 2006-02-14
    Hey ppl

Very recently i bought this 66801. Generally speaking I like this watch but I just wish it was designed a little more finer. The strap doesn't really go with the big dial. The 2 buttons at the bottom of the dial are really not worth being there. If only timex had improved its final touches with this watch, I could have given it a 5. Other than that, its nice. The FLIX thing works cool and so does all other functions.
    =====

By the way, after 6 months, its strap just broke. That's not good.

  • Worst watch I ever purchased in my life

  • Worst Watch

  • Great watch for running.
    By A3MMFJDEYFDXVQ on 2007-03-28
I got this watch to replace another one almost exactly alike. All the new timex watches are in a different style now that i do not like and i am more use to this style watch. Well for running or bikeing this is a great watch. It has 100 lap memory with date so if you get busy you can write down all your weekly times by date at a time when you are not so busy. It has countdown timers for interval timing of your workouts. It has five alarms. And a message feature where you can save little messages to yourself. All in all it is a great watch for a runner of any speed.

  • very pleased with watch
    By A28LDRYAZLJQXL on 2007-08-09
i loved the watch. it has alot of features for the price that u pay, and u get reliability of timex. i like the flix technology, it's pretty convenient. i haven't used the chronograph yet though. i do like the 5 alarms it has on it, it comes in handy. i would definetely recommend to others.

  • Great for doing various intervals!
    By A3VQ3UPFUCW05R on 2007-08-27
I wish Timex would more fully explain the features of their watches on their website. I love this watch and have bought it a second time because it has what I call "customizable 9-interval timer". This means that I can set it up for doing intervals (running, rowing, whatever) such as: 4min on, 2min off, 3min on, 2 min off, 2min on, 1 min off, 1min on, 3min off. That's 8 intervals, and this watch lets you set up to 9 intervals. (It beeps after each interval.) And these 9 can repeat indefinitely, or you can set it to repeat only x number of times. It's awesome! And this feature is really hard to find. You basically have to review each watch's directions (the fine print!) to see if a watch offers this feature.

  • Solid Watch with Great Functionality worn by top business professionals
    By A23SXRXI8CXF4C on 2007-08-30
I purchased this watch about a year ago. It is an excellent watch. The interval timers as another reviewer mentioned are the killer feature. It is reliable and features a second time zone which is perfect for the traveler - along with 5 alarms. The flix functionality is also nice. This watch is also worn by the former Goldman Sachs CEO and current Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson. So we can see wearing a digital watch in a suit in high powered business setting hasn't hurt him. You can do it too, no need for the expensive Swiss automatic that keeps poor time, go with a Timex, get accurate time keeping and invest the difference.

If you want a great watch, get this one. I'm going to grab another one if Timex ever discontinues this model. It's that good. This is a practical man's timepiece.

  • Great watch
    By A2GEZE31OO3M01 on 2007-09-05
Unlike the girly singly face button ironman watches that Timex seems to be pushing these days, this watch face is large and has two face buttons, a real man's watch. that's pretty much the only reason why I got this one, otherwise, all the features are pretty much the same across all of Timex's Ironman watches. This watch is classy in the same way the HP 12C Financial Calculator - Black/ Gold is to an accountant.

  • Feature rich, good looking and comfortable watch
    By ADVLRJS633OTD on 2008-01-09
First I must tell you that I just got this watch today. So this review is based on my initial reactions. I will probably post an update when I've owned in longer.

I bought this on Amazon from Pro Sport Watches and the service was above average. They provided three day priority shipping at no additional cost and they provided tracking. I've not had to use their customer service. So I can't comment on that.

The watch is very good looking. It is also light weight. You hardly know you have it on even though it is a big watch.

I bought it to replace both my Data Link and my Ironman.

I wanted a watch with at least five alarms, which this one has. The alarms are very easy to set. Just make sure you arm the alarm or it won't go off.

It also has a timer, which is great for workouts. And it has a chrono. It also has a memo. I can't see using it for memos but some people might find that useful.

The watch is easy to read as the letters and numbers are big. And the backlight is great if you need it.

You can set two timezones if you have reason to and you can use either 12 or 24 hour time. I think those are really great features.

The price I paid is a real bargain as the watch retails for around $70.

The information that comes with the watch is poorly written. It comes in several languages, which is annoying. But worse yet, it doesn't give full instructions or details on how to set and use the watch. So you have to read it carefully if you're new to this type of watch. Having had several, I figured it out quickly.

Poor documentation is the worse thing about many products today and this is one such product.

I find these Ironman watches last a very long time. My newer model Data Link didn't last long and I'm having it replaced by Timex. But they're not the same as the Ironman. I also had the first generation Timex Data Link 150, which after about five years started going out on me. They have the Ironman features but the added task of the data. I've had very good luck with the basic Ironman watches and I hope this one lasts a long time too.

One thing I do not like about this watch is the way the date is displayed. It has the year first (to the left), the month in the middle and the day to the far right. This is not what I'm used to, the month, day and year --- in that order. I don't know why they opted to put the date like this. I guess in time you can get used to it but I prefer the standard way to read the date.

It's a very handsome watch for either a man or a woman. I highly recommend it.

  • would not buy again
    By A19RW25Q6206I3 on 2008-01-14
Found the face scratched very easily but EVEN MORE ANNOYING was the buttons are abit to sensitive. I find the useage of them not intuitive at all, and more often then not I look down to check the time and find I am in lap mode or some other screen.

  • Timex men Watch
    By ACKGH6STNU5L3 on 2008-02-11
Sometime ago I had another Timex Watch, it had 12 years in use, this new model comes with another special features like the bright on the screen, beutifull watch, received just on time and with a good price, the best watches for sports: Timex Trade Mark.

  • Best Timex watch - ever
    By A1RU2ZX4CVRY8M on 2008-08-17
I have had T66801 for over 5 years now. Always wanted T51931 because of the exact same functions of T66801 but with a black finish.

Recently while shopping at Timex store, I happened to notice T51931 on sale for $24.99. I picked it up without blinking.

Now I have the two best watches ever designed by Timex. I don't think I have to buy another watch for a decade or so.

It's got the right amount of features for a sports watch designed in the late 90s.

    100 lap memory
9 interval timer with option to switch over to chrono mode automatically
    5 alarms
2nd time zone accessible with 1 click ( many watches have dual or triple time zones but accessibility is a pain )
    10, 3 page memo
    Flix mode Indiglo
and seriously everlasting batteries that put a solar watch to shame...

I changed the batteries on my silver one (T66801) couple of months back and it costed me a buck and a half...buck and a half in 5 years is one hell of a bargain.

This watch is worth every cent. I haven't seen a better watch in this price range...like the gentleman says above...let me know if you find a better one...

This's one is for Times, if they care to read this...
    Your designs are getting boring...
