Bodum Yo Yo Tea Infuser With Lid, Stainless Steelx$12.89
    (23 reviews)
Best Price: $19.00 $12.89
This stainless steel strainer will definitely be your cup of tea: rich tasting tea made from tea leaves, not bags, with an infuser that's not only super easy to use but also to clean. Since it is made from stainless steel, it won't affect the flavor of your tea. Each and every single cup of tea deserves to be brewed the right way - with swirling tea leaves. 3 inches h.
This stainless-steel infuser is ideal for the tea drinker who loves to make one perfect cup at a time. With flanges that fit over any standard size mug or cup, the infuser stays put when hot water is added and holds loose tea leaves that won’t escape through the network of minute holes. The stainless-steel lid keeps heat in during brewing, and doubles as a drip-catching trivet under the infuser when done. Measuring 3-1/4 by 2-1/4 inches, with a flange span of 4 inches, the infuser can be washed either by hand or in the dishwasher. --Ann Bieri

best for whole leaf teas By AIQP6FB2WO4CJ on 2005-04-17
I wanted an infuser that would allow me to make a single mug of loose leaf tea at home. This item pretty much works as expected. But the holes in the side of the infuser are rather large--about 1mm. For whole leaf loose teas, that is not a problem. But for many other teas, it allows quite a bit of tea through.
For example, when I make sencha or bancha green tea, I end up with a lot of sediment at the bottom of my mug. Also, rooibos tea is small enough to slip through the holes. And a few of the rooibos tea particles will actually get stuck in the holes, which becomes a slight hassle when cleaning the unit.
I use this unit at home but at work I have a different tea maker which works better. It has a finer mesh screen so very little tea gets through. On Amazon, it is ASIN # B0000VLMQK, but is not currently available. However, the same item can be found at Teavana as "2 cup perfect teamaker" or at Adagio Teas as "ingenuiTEA", and sells for less than $20.
an alien's perspective By A2V1XO7SDU4XQZ on 2006-12-24
Flawless "tea-steeping" device. Probability of unplanned release of leaves into liquid medium during normal steeping processes is approximately zero, in contrast to failure-prone clasp of device "tea ball." High reliability values are obtained through the omission of moving parts and fabrication from corrosion-resistant metal, therefore it is probable that optimal item operation will persist beyond the cessation of original purchaser's biological functions. Omitting aesthetic considerations, the device possesses obvious heirloom suitability.
I LIKE it. By A2L9D8C8HN5PMQ on 2005-05-06
I've discovered if I wet the infuser just before adding the tea the smaller particles expand and less tea "dust" falls through. This infuser is easy to clean and has a nice appearance. It can be used in either a single cup or in any teapot (of course you need to adjust the quantity of tea leaves).
There's a trick to using this! By A2SE1ZHQ7N7BQP on 2007-12-06
Several other reviewers have complained about fine tea being washed through the infuser and into your mug. I had the same experience until I figured out this trick. If you pour your water into the infuser, it washes the fine leaves through the screen. Instead, put your hot water in the mug FIRST. Then put the infuser with the tea into the mug. This works very well, with only a few stray leaves passing through.
Amazon also sells this with a matching mug for just a few dollars more. Consider buying the set.
Cheap from beginning to the end By A5U47MA2KSTGS on 2007-08-27
This infuser is cheaply made. It is that simple. When I received the product, it was clear to me that this thing was a flawed product. First, this infuser was shipped to me without proper casing and indeed I noticed some bumps which weren't too bad however they were certainly noticeable in close inspection.
Second, if you look closely at how they melded this stainless steel infuser, you will see why I say this was cheaply made. It was just amateurishly done even I can do better.
Third, they put some kind of stick at the bottom of the infuser and frankly, I spent 20 minutes trying to get it off completely. And of course I ended up with very scratched infuser bottom. I don't know what kind of glue it was but it stuck to infuser bottom and simply refused to scrape off.
I would recommend future buyers to stay away from this product. I know I will never buy product from Bodum in the future for sure.
- ** DO NOT BUY THIS INFUSER FROM AMAZON **
     By A1JUJO34A9KE72 on 2007-11-15
** BEWARE ** ** BEWARE ** ** BEWARE **
Amazon is currently shipping out a Bodum Yo Yo Plastic Tea Infuser instead of the STAINLESS STEEL model that is pictured and advertised. When I notified Amazon that they sent the wrong model, they apologized for the error and immediately sent the "correct item" via overnight delivery. The tea infuser they sent the second time was the same one they sent originally -- cheap plastic model.
The Bodum Yo Yo Tea Infuser they are shipping is black plastic with a grey nylon basket. It looks nice and should work fine -- but not worth the $15 they are charging. It might be worth $3.99, but not $15; so I had to return the item a second time.
CLEARLY, THERE IS A MIX-UP AT AMAZON. THIS HAPPENED NOVEMBER 12-15th, 2007. I WOULD AVOID MAKING THIS PURCHASE, .... UNLESS YOU WANT A $15 PLASTIC TEA INFUSER. ** BEWARE **
- Perfect design & great quality
     By AZ4DV3GEN3WNI on 2007-03-08
This works beautifully and allows the tea leaves plenty of room to steep. I use the little dish to put the strainer in when I pull it out of my mug, and it catches all the drips perfectly. Extremely well made and should last many lifetimes.
- Great tea infuser!
     By A23LS1VUEGG8R5 on 2007-03-15
The Bodum tea infuser is a wonderful item! Whether you are making a cup of tea or a pot of tea, the infuser is easy to use, easy to clean-up.
The one big DOWNSIDE is that the company selling the infuser did NOT include THE LID - - it was missing from the shipment. In spite of this deficiency, the infuser itself works great - - and since I seldom let my tea sit for very long after making a cup, the lid is not essential ..although it would have been nice to have in view of having paid for it. I find that this infuser is much better than those "tea eggs" that have to be filled, then screwed shut, and opened the same way to dump out after use. The carefully crafted stainless steel will also be sure to last for years of regular use.
- If you use big tea leaves...
     By A1PLA0VASVZ0T8 on 2007-06-14
I bought this for my husband based on the ratings and we were very disappointed. The tea baller we bought him till this one came was much better. He uses a tea that has smaller leaves which this infuser can't hold. If you use a tea with big leaves then this is for you.
- ugly price sticker spoils experience
     By AF9NVRZBHZEOF on 2007-11-21
Great idea - but before I used it for the first time, I had to use all sorts of scrapers and chemicals to remove the thick and heavy price sticker on the bottom. Not sure if I even got all glue off. Bad packaging - good product.
- Decent but not perfect
     By A2LZQROIMLQ1EE on 2007-12-02
Pros:
- fits well in mugs
- easy to lift out of mug
- tea turns out fine
Cons:
- mine didn't come with the lid (a fluke?)
- sticker on the bottom ... very difficult to remove. The gunk/glue left after I pulled off the tag took forever to clean. I don't want that stuff in my tea!
Overall:
It's a great little device, and $10.00 isn't a terrible price, but don't be surprised if there are some hassles at first.
- A Pleasant Surprise
     By A1OLOS3I04Y59T on 2007-03-16
First tea infuser I've used that is the correct depth and width. In an age with so many ill-designed, poorly made, and cheap items on the market, it's a pleasant surprise to purchase a product that works so well. A must-have for any serious tea drinker.
IMHO the best cup of tea is infused in an iron teapot with a stainless steel strainer (I prefer Iwachu, made in Morioka Prefecture, Japan), from filtered or spring water heated in copper teakettle (I prefer Simplex, copper with pure tin liner, made by hand in Birmingham England); but, if you're making only one cup of tea, the Bodum Yo Yo is the best option.
- Good size & shape
     By A1868SAQB3HF34 on 2007-08-11
I love that this thing is stainless steel. It works really well. This is the perfect size & shape. It fits on mugs, teapots & my large stainless steel coffee mugs and it won't fall in! Theres even an indent to set your spoon on top and a tray to set it in once you take it out! My only complaint is it's kind of a pain to clean the extra bits of tea out but that happens with any of these type of things. Regular tea infusers don't seem to infuse anything! This does a perfect job at actually INFUSING the tea! Thanks!
- Does the job
     By A1HWB8RULQQA4T on 2007-08-31
Excellent for whole leaf loose tea. Easy to clean and well made. Should last a lifetime.
- Terrible filter
     By A1X9LXL69B2WVX on 2008-01-24
I've used several tea infusers/filters and by far this is the worst one. The holes are just simply too big. Too many particles get through. After having a cup of tea from any competitor where the holes are smaller, you would notice the little to no particles getting thru compared to this filter. I'm throwing this filter out and purchasing another Swiss Gold. The Swiss Gold may not be as cool looking because part of the construction is plastic but, it does what it was made for... filtering tea.
- This item is only good for Large Leafed tea
     By A1OLSW8DPUIQSA on 2007-12-22
I bought some loose teas online and needed a infuser. I bought this one and the holes are too large for tea that is loose and cut up. When you add the water, the tea goes through the little holes and you are left with a cup full of tea pieces. I recommend any of the kind that looks like a coffee-mesh type filter. Kind of gold in color. I don't remember the name, but that is the kind I now use as thye work the best. Steel/aluminium, whatever it is, cannot work without a disposable filter.
- Cheap and flimsy
     By A2L82PT1KHN24O on 2008-04-04
This filter should be sold in a cheap hardware store for $2 top. It is of such poor quality, I am surprised Bodum put its name on it. Mine arrived without the lid but with dents - it is made of a very soft material that is hardly stainless steel. Bad, bad, bad - and expensive!
- good infuser
     By A1QODK5CBY2HT9 on 2004-06-23
This is my first infuser. I was looking for one made of stainless steel, but not those ball-shaped ones.It works pretty well. The tea I have has some small particles which gets through the mesh, but that's okay. Happens with tea bags, too. I use the lid upside down while infusing (instead of sunken in like the picture), mostly so I can get it off quickly. Be careful, though; it's hot! My infuser did not come with a brush, like the description states. However, cleanup is pretty easy. I can rinse off all the leaves if the leaves are still wet. I use a sponge if something looks stuck. It sits pretty well over a standard mug and covers the whole opening while sitting in the mug.
- Great infuser
     By A3FL3MWXVB59FC on 2007-12-07
This stainless infuser allows you to make any kind of tea from the leaf.
It is made of thin metal, and it is very light, fits perfect to any kind of cup. It is easy to see how much tea leaf is in (I have a black infuser, and it is hard to see since the tea leaf's color is blended into the background). It is also easy to clean since the mesh is small enough to avoid the leaf stuck.
This is a great product, but I found a couple of turn-offs.
First, the sticker attached to the bottom of the item when I received made me trouble to peel. I wasted 30 minutes just to peel the useless sticker. I recommend using hair dryer to warm up to peel the sticker. If you still fail to peel it clean, use scotch tape to catch all the paper sticker.
Second, it is thin enough to make a dent easy. Try not to put stress around the wall of the infuser when you handle it.
Overall, 4 stars out of 5 is fair.
- Very nice but expensive
     By A3UBDVOL5UDIIB on 2008-02-07
I'm happy with this infuser especially because it is all stainless steel, no plastic like many others I looked at. It fits into the mug well, as well as my small teapot. People have complained about the bottom sticker glue but any residue comes off easily with a little GooGone. Sticker residue is a common problem with many items; it's certainly not exclusive to this product so I don't know why it was even mentioned.
As other reviewers have suggested, wetting the infuser before filling with tea helps to prevent tea particles from slipping through.
About the only complaint I have is the price...I think $15 is a bit high for this item, but I guess it is worth it since it's hard to find an all stainless steel one of this style.
