  • The Classic And Still The Best!

    By A2NOZB6VZCTOI4 on 2005-05-03
Levi's 501 jeans are still the best in the world after all these years. The button fly is at times a bit inconvenient, but the fit of these jeans is worth it - there has never been a pair of jeans that fit a guy better than these. They are comfortable, yet not baggy, and are decidedly classic, without being stodgy.

In short, Levi's 501 jeans still set the bar for blue jeans, and to date nothing else comes close.

  • Easy to buy

    By A2REQUI85URT87 on 2006-03-10

While much of the negative commentary concerned Levi Strauss's move away from domestic manufacturing has focused on the button-fly 501s, the bigger problem I have seen is with the old 1970's standby, the 505, which has a zipper as opposed to button fly. The variability on sizing and sew quality with the 505s is an issue if you are going to buy them online or mail order. You really have to try them on to see how they fit. The 501 are much easier to buy online or by mail order because the sizing is much less critical on the waist, which is the so-called "anti-fit" waist, meaning there is no curve to the rise (the distance between the crotch and the top of the waist). basically, the 501s are pretty safe as far as sizing.

  • Still the best but not what they used to be..

    By A1IILFFC2EUXFC on 2006-07-09
I've worn 501's for almost 40 years. They don't last as long as they used to but still fit and feel much the same. They used to have riveted seams (not good if you lean up against a car for example) and seemed to be made from a tougher grade of cotton. Sometime in the last 15 years or so, the durability has suffered somewhat. The rear and inseams wear more more quickly resulting in premature holes. I'm lucky to get 20 washes before the wear is such that they can't be modestly worn in public anymore. Back in the day, they would last for years of heavy use. Regardless, 501's are still the grand daddy classic jean of all time. They fit and feel like nothing else.

  • Nothing says "I'm not a nerd" more than a pair of these

    By A4DEQMU5MZMPH on 2004-08-15
Levi button-downs are the most comfortable, COOL jeans in the known universe; James Dean wore 'em for cryin' out loud! Just don't blame the jeans for his poor driving record; no doubt he was wearing a pair of baggy khakis on his day of destiny, BUT I DIGRESS.

I've worn Levi's for all of my adult life and I've been pretty darn cool for a good percentage of said adult life.

So button-down and fly right, Kimosabe.

    Peace,
    Kaz

  • Best value for your money

    By A2GV7HPW854TZZ on 2005-03-27
Are there any other jeans than these traditional Levi's 501? If you really want quality your choice would most certainly be a pair of 501 button flies. Don't waste your money on any other brand only for just checking out'em. You'll soon learn that nothing can beat the comfort and enjoyment of 501.

  • comfortable and perfect
    By A3YWSYEIZSYNJ on 2006-06-07
Man there just ain't nothin like a pair of 501's. That button fly and that classic Levi's fit is just perfect. They always fit just right for work or play. Spent a lot of time as a carpenter in these things and they held up like a champ. Then again spent a lot of time at concerts in these things and they always look great. Just a great pair of jeans.

  • NOT the same as the CLASSIC 501
    By A2K0ZKQ3V578IK on 2006-08-27
I don't see what the previous commentators see in the modern 501. Unlike the classic formfitting jean that they once were, they are baggy and sloppy. I had just assume where Silvertabs as opposed to this classic. It's too bad Levi Strauss Inc. cannot seem to stick with the basics and cater to those who want a pair of jeans to fit just right. Manufacturing a new style (i.e, Silvertab) is fine by me, but it is absurd to change a classic- especially the 501! Bring the classic nuthuggers back!

  • Pockets
    By A3UKGVFJ2X1ZS7 on 2006-10-24
Levi used to make great 501's. Then they started turning out products with pocket material that wears out way before the jeans have. I'll never buy another pair of Levi's.

  • Don't buy from G&L!
    By A17Z0PBO6FUV85 on 2006-12-03
I would advise against buying Levi's from Amazon and G&L. It took almost two weeks for my order to be delivered, and then they were not the classic "shrink to fit" 501s that we all know and love. They were some pre-shrunk, pre-faded imitations. Don't waste your money!!

  • The absolute classic 501
    By A37QJU3W852N88 on 2006-07-14
I have been wearing Levi's 501 since I was 16 - which means that for 22 years I keep returning to the classic, and it always fits just right.
This is the first time I am ordering my jeans through Amazon - I am not a big fan of ordering cloths remotely without trying it on, but I thought what the hey, how can I go wrong with the classic 501. And indeed I got it just right, same old great blue jeans: enter levi's into the e-commerge age.
Bottom line - as great as ever, and now online.

  • It kills me that they're not made in the U.S. anymore...
    By A10W40DOIE1EOP on 2008-03-11
but they're still a great pair of jeans. I mean, they're the definative. Make sure you get the "Shrink to Fit" too. If you don't like the button fly, and I can understand where that fly could be a problem, try the 505s. They're the same jeans sans button fly.

  • Shipping
    By A16J63Q8WCW2AI on 2006-07-25
Jeans themselves are good. But the shipping costs too much. I know I am a foreign buyer, but when the shipping costs more than products, don't you think it's ridiculous & ironic ?

  • all levi's are not created equal
    By A2L8MYLFVEIGMR on 2006-08-07
i trust G&L clothing and amazon, to deliver me the levi's 501 buttonfly's that i know and trust..... i have bought levi's from other sources and can attest that levi's (specifically 501 buttonfly) are not all of the same quality and fit.
G&L sent me a high quality product with no delay.
    and i love amazon.
    thanks!

  • Button Fly Jeans
    By AYHRD533HG1PL on 2007-03-30
Vendor did a partial, but otherwise everything met specifications. Much more efficient way of shopping for commodity type products. You saved me at least an hour and a couple gallons of gasoline...and the nasty experience of visiting a shopping mall. THX

  • Poor Quality
    By A1UJUZRX0P6D98 on 2007-05-06
I ordered these jeans for my husband, ordered them a size too big because I've always been told they shrink to fit. Out of the five pairs ordered, three pairs are already trashed. The first time my husband wore them, two of them ripped and seperated the seam in the crotch while he was getting into the truck and the other did the same when he bent down to pick something up.

  • The best jeans are 501s
    By A1JYB05165T7WR on 2006-07-27
Ignored Levi jeans for about 30 years but was in NYC last year and bought 501 and 505 at Macys.
The 501s are brilliant. Fit well and look great. Living down under the only way to buy decent jeans is via Amazon. Tad expensive to fly to the USA for jeans but always tempting.

  • LEVI'S "ORIGINAL 501'S" STILL THE BEST
    By AA3JIWZCLZ14C on 2006-11-09
LEVI'S 501'S, STILL THE BEST JEANS EVER MADE. VERY RETRO WITH THE BUTTON FLY, GREAT COVER UP FOR GALS TOO AFTER A DAY AT THE BEACH AND SO COMFORTABLE AND STYLISH FOR THE GUYS. THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT LEVI'S 501'S ARE JUST PLAIN "COOL"

  • Just not the same
    By AV9PXF4IJF4RX on 2007-02-16
The pair of 501's that I bought are the exact pair that I have bought several times in the past, this time the size was off, they did not fit, I bought a pair at the store the same day, exact same pair and they fit perfect like the rest of my 501's.

  • "Good Product" and "Bad Delivery System"
    By A3CQDR37ULZV8V on 2007-04-04
I thought I would never get this item. Common; we were only talking about one pair of jeans!! They have 10 days to get the product out. Believe me they will wait till the tenth day to send it. I finally got my jeans on the 14th day.I had even called to cancel my order; but they sent it any way.

  • Only got one out of three items I ordered
    By A29029AUQH6DAT on 2006-02-15
I ordered 3 pairs of pre-shrunk instant old 501's. I received one pair of what I ordered and one pair of unshrunk 501's with no tags and I don't know yet where the other pair is. Won't order from them again.

  • 50-50
    By A1L91AWB0PS9U on 2007-10-05
I bought two pair of Levi's from Electrikid and don't feel really happy about it, the jeans were both the same size but one did not fit. The quality of the two was very different, you could notice just looking at the cloth itself.

I took a pretty close look at them and noticed that one was assembled in Egypt and the other one in Haiti. It does not really matter where they were built, but standarization was not present at all.

I REALLY DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE ABOUT THIS PURCHASE.

  • do not buy anything from Bealls
    By A1B51KQ6J763QN on 2007-12-22
I ordered a gift from Bealls on December 9th in order to have it sent by Xmas. I
I subsequently found out on December 20th that the gift had been refunded because
it was not in stock and they neglected to inform me of this. I would not purchase anything from this company again.

  • God's Holy Trousers
    By A3VNV65XYKKY6A on 2006-05-22
At the close of a balmy Friday in April I headed down in high spirits to the wooden benches in front of our public library. I chose the seat facing the station and settled in for a leisurely round of trainwatching, or should that be spotting, I can never remember, who can keep up with the lingo of these drugged and indolent hooligans? Any road, there I sat smoking a Winston 100 and quietly anticipating the arrival of the 6.27 when who inches past but some local Methuselah and his other half, out for a type of shuffle it looked like. Now the thing that jumped right out about this old geezer was his pants--he was wearing a pair of blue jeans belted at the armpits and I actually reared back slightly on the bench and had to stifle a groan. It gets worse too because Maisie there on his arm had very obviously ironed unbreakable creases into the disconsolate drainpipes, plus the cuffs were turned up on the outside by about a foot. See, from personal experience I know a thing or two about overdoing life's little pleasures to a point well beyond no pleasure at all and believe me this dude was overdoing his trousers in the worst possible way. Let's face it, jeans are the accoutrements of youth, or at least of those yet-to-slump metabolisms you get between late adolescence and the brink of middle-age, say early fortysomething for the sake of argument, and to pant on as it were in brand name denim nigh unto the mouth of the grave itself is like a totally huge betrayal of everything Levi Strauss eh fought and eh died for. Enough of a good thing is, after all, more than enough, any nitwit knows that. I myself have worn almost nothing but 501s for just under thirty years now and am finally ready to relinquish them in favour of something a little more nondescript, as befits my impending status as apprentice coot. I shall miss them sorely but know my duty. Really though, what a very good thing, the legendary 501. Is there anything more life-affirming or invigourating than lounging around in a vintage pair of these modern moleskins? They fit surpassingly well, are strangers to bunching, come cut for boots, even the Frye harness boot with the 12-inch shaft, wash easily, fade just like they're supposed to and when they're all worn out and raggedy they are articles of casual beauty and spiritual consolation. The button fly alone should be in a museum. And yet time passes and a crossroads is reached and if ever I had a blunt confirmation of that fact is was the sight of Matlock there outside the library making a slow-motion eejit of himself and his missus. Normally I have nothing but the utmost respect for old people, I can hardly wait to become one myself, but on this point of the pants I yield to no man. Later that night I dug out a pair of old Dockers which had inexplicably stayed with me for it must be going on ten years now and I says to them, I says, you're shapeless and sort of baggy and a strange rusty colour which is odd because you were originally jet black if I remember right but in any case, I says to the redoubtable trews, you are the new old me. So farewell my five-pocket friends, if Blue Pants Weekly really existed you'd be on the cover of every issue.

If you know your size, and you had a Levis in the past, you can't go wrong when buying a new pair.

  • go with the STF
    By A2H95HHIZON3XQ on 2007-11-01
I've noticed an improvement in quality in the Shrink to fit version (double stitched inseam) over the pre shrunk version (single stitch inseam). Bought a pair of each last year and the latter ripped while the STF are starting to break in great. There's no price difference probably because more cost goes into washing, shrinking and all the different colors with the pre shrunk version. It's worth it to get the STF's, just size up 3 - 4 in length and 1 - 2 in waistsize. After several years of wear they will be at the same point all the new pre shrunk treated jeans are. Also a lot of the dressier rigid jeans are really no different than brand new STF's. So over time the STF can go from a dress up jean to a more casual jean, and you can buy another pair when they start to fade.

  • Christmas gift

My friend lives in Rome and cannot get Levi's 501 jeans. I live in Rome (6) months out of the year, so I purchased the jeans for him. I was able to get (3) pair at a local dept. store, but that was all they had in his size. Thank you for fulfilling my need. Christine D Collier
