Magellan RoadMate GPS Dash Mountx$39.95

(94 reviews)

Best Price: $49.99 $39.95

Magellan is the consumer brand of Thales Navigation, one of the world's leading developers and manufacturers of positioning, navigation, and guidance equipment. Magellan was the brand that introduced the first consumer handheld GPS solution in 1989, and it has maintained its place as a leading global GPS brand for consumers.

Keep your Magellan RoadMate GPS navigator securely affixed to your car's dashboard with this sturdy mount. Equipped with an adjustable pivot that lets you fine-tune the angle so you can better see the GPS screen, the mount makes navigating easy and safe. It's also effortless to install, requiring no drilling, adhesives, or mounting hardware. Simply place it on your dashboard, and the heavily weighted base and slip-free feet will grab hold and not let go. Even better, you can easily transfer the mount between vehicles by simply picking it up and moving it--a notable improvement over most static mounts. Note that the device is designed exclusively for the RoadMate, and will not work with other GPS receivers. MPN: 702178 - UPC: 763357108897

  • GPS Dash Mount works GREAT

    By A1IKN2G6RWYEEY on 2005-11-09
My Roadmate 300 WINDSHIELD mount began having suction difficulties due to transferring it multiple times between vehicles. I went on Amazon and looked at the dash mount only to become concerned from the customer reviews. Despite the reviews I purchased the dash mount. I have been very pleased with the results.

The mount is heavy and the feet are flexible/moldable to ensure that the mount rests flush even on cars with a declivity dashboard. The feet are also made with a material that has a wonderful grip. I have a Honda Accord and the mount hasn't slipped AT ALL even with fast turns. My dash board has a very slight rough surface, which I think helps. I wonder if the other users had smooth dash boards. I imagine if one had a smooth dash and then used Armor All, the resulting slick surface might make it tough for the dash mount to grip.

I also let a group of friends borrow my dash mount on a recent roadtrip and the dash mount worked fine in their car. It's much easier to transfer from car to car than the windshield mount. I'm very happy to have made the switch.

  • Disappointed

    By A3NRCWDUGV7BGS on 2005-07-28
The concept is great, but the execution is not. Although the unit is weighted and should stay on the dashboard, it tended to jump and shift position on the dashboard after hitting bumps in the road. It was very annoying to have to reach forward to try to keep the unit from sliding off the dash, or to have to turn the unit and re-center it (so you could see the front of the unit) after hitting a bump. I would not recommend this item.

while the idea is good the product is not. Bounces around and slides on the road. screen vibrates so is hard to read. save your money

  • Dreadful! Don't even think about it!

    By A2L35R3V4POZPZ on 2005-10-19
Unless you might enjoy driving with one hand on the steering wheel while the other keeps the mount from sliding off the dash, forget about this as a solution to your RoadMate mounting needs.

The thing is more of a hazard to my safety and the safety of my RoadMate than anything else. This is a flawed design. The "slip-free" feet are anything but - which leaves your RoadMate flying into the back seat on your next application of the brakes, and sliding down the dash the rest of the time. Unless you are prepared to affix some Velcro or other adhesive to your dash, this has no purpose being called a "mount".

I'm going back the the windshield mount, you should stick with it too, and save your money - until they come up with something effective.

  • Don't waste your money.

    By A2EXHE9BJ27CD5 on 2005-10-17
I only used it 3 days and went back to the original window mount. Everytime I turned I had to hold it to keep it from sliding across the dash and into the floor.

  • stick to the windshield mount
    By A2MK8IQEOK572K on 2005-11-27
i used the dash mount for about 2 minutes. I backed out of my driveway and the thing came flying off onto the floor! It had no suction or stickiness at all!

  • Magellan Roadmate GPS Dash Mount
    By A32D6PYHBY8QJP on 2006-04-02
Overall, this is a good product. Seems to set very secure on the dash, it is quite weighted on the bottom, so doubt it would ever fall off the dash. It holds the GPS quite secure. Our only dislike is that unless you are on a very smooth road, the GPS does vibrate quite a bit. Overall, we are happy with this product.

  • Dash mount
    By A1TKA6DNNV1CL5 on 2006-03-25
I originally had the windshield mount but the suction cup finally quit working so I had to find another way to mount my GPS. I have a Honda Pilot and this dash mount is perfect. It does not move when I drive or turn or with any sharp moves. It is also very easy to disconnect the GPS from the mount. I am so happy with the purchase and I would recommend it to everyone.

  • Don't stop Quick!
    By A3VIWI2SEBGNJJ on 2005-08-13
Thought this would solve my problems over the suction cup windshield mount so I could quickly remove it from the dash board when I parked. This unit is very heavy and slides around.
The first time I stopped quick the GPS unit bounced off the windshield. By playing around with different positions of the feet and on the dash I was able reduce the amount of sliding.
I think some type of mount on a bean bag would be better.

  • Magellan RoadMate GPS Dash Mount
    By A35GAGRLRC52DO on 2006-03-17
Much much better than I expected. This is very good stick on the dash. Anyway.......I love it better than the window mount.

  • Forget the poor reviews
    By A2PNXXYNSPIHMZ on 2006-08-13
I read many bad things about this product before I purchased it, but I was so sick of the window mount, I decided to give it a try anyway. The cost was cheap, so even if I didn't like it, it was no big loss.

I am very satisfied with the dash mount, and the negative comments about how it slides and bounces all over the place are highly exagerrated. Sure, it slides a little and it bounces a little, but I have yet to see any mount that isn't going to move a little. It is 1000 TIMES BETTER than the window mount and it's suction cup. Talk about bounce. I got sick trying to look at the screen.

Just drove 2000 miles to Chicago, Milwaukee and back to New Orleans, and it was fine.

In my opinion, for the small price it is worth a shot, even if you are unsure.

  • Magellan GPS mount
    By AIDS29Z7YMPWF on 2006-11-04
This is a very heavy mount that attaches by screws (included) to the Magellan mounting bracket. It's rubber covered metal (lead?) with three flexible prongs which increase stability and adaptability to car surfaces. Great for states like California which don't allow suction cups on the windshield.

  • Dash mount much better than windshield mount
    By A2QHB5J2KAOET3 on 2005-08-23
After using the windshield mount for about 6 months, I stopped using the GPS system. It kept falling off and cracking. The dash mount works much better and is easy to place under the seat when the car is parked.

  • A Great Alternative Mount
    By A37LJBKPVEEJJA on 2006-03-11
A nicer type of mount without taking up the field of view. I now have a better view of the road. Works like a charm, but be sure not to use after wiping your dash board with somekind of cleaner/shiner such as AmorAll.

For a more stable and constant grip to the dash, I use that Grip pad that they sell where you can put objects such as a cell phone and prevents it from sliding around.

    By A27AY36SNPKBW1 on 2006-03-26
Excellent product if you don't go on any bumpy roads. Otherwise the product is not worth the money spent. Vibrations cause the assembly to bounce off the dash. Stick with the windshield mount.

  • GREAT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT
    By A3EONERBH2HRUX on 2005-09-30
GREAT FOR USE IN BIG TRUCKS ESPECIALLY BY USING SOME VELCRO UNDER FEET. NICE TO HAVE MAGELLAN OFF OF WINDSHIELD.

  • Dash Mount -- very helpful
    By A20PGIGM9TAJ2X on 2006-08-17
I got the dash mount because a friend recommended it. I thought the windshield mount worked fine except it was difficult to remove from the windshield. I felt like I should remove it each time I parked somewhere. Also, there was a fair amount of vibration since it usually was dangling. The dash mount is very heavy and flexible enough to "mold" to fit the surface of the dash. However, it kept slipping off the surface of my Toyota Avalon until I found a little sticky pad to put it on. That solved that problem. Anyway, it is very easy to move it to the floorboard and cover it up when I stop, thus effectively hiding it from the temtation of a robber.

  • Magellan RoadMate GPS Dash Mount
    By A1LK005H2FABZU on 2006-03-11
I am happy with this dash mount. My car has a flat area under the windsheild for its placement.
It is quite heavy for its small size and has three mouldable feet which contact the dash. You place one foot pointing to
the rear of the vehicle ( 6 o'clock) and two feet at the 10 and 2 o'clock positions.
It is quite stable but will move somewhat over extremely bumby roads.
You have to attach your Magellan Roadmate Universal Cradle to the Magellan Dash Mount so you have to order another Universal Cradle if you want to use the Magellan suction cup mount as well. I don't recommend using Velcro to secure the mount.
The dash mount is my preferred mount for the Roadmate if the vehicle will take it. It is good to have both options.
It needs a relatively flat area on the dash.

  • Not a Universal mount!
    By A3O4B8TWRVXT7A on 2006-08-04
If your cars Dash is curved or sloping, this mount will not work. Did not work on a 1988 Mercedes 300E or a Daewoo Lanos. It might work if you have a perfectly FLAT dash. I had to return the item as it did not sit properly. Even the slightest touch from a finger would make it slide down. Those of you who are clean freaks like me, BEWARE. Products like armour all which leave a protective coating on your dash will further reduce the grip of this stand! I would not trust a $800 piece of equipment on an unreliable stand like this when even a slight touch of a finger can make it slide down. What about jolts and bumps while normal driving? I did not wait to find out using my $800 GPS as an experiment!

  • Does the job
    By A1WFNRQYC3SU8P on 2006-10-31
I purchased this dashmount so I could swap the GPS between vehicles without having to install a permanent mount. I don't know what the "feet" of the base is made of, but it is basically like a rubber version of a lead blanket - it is heavy yet is very pliable. This is useful since my dash (a 2004 F-250) has an uneven surface. I can press and mold the feet to put the base in a certain position and under most circumstances it'll stay there. Occasionally, on long or "bouncy" trips, it'll creep out of position a couple inches and I'll have to move it back. I've seen some comments complaining of that - but I don't see it as a problem since common sense says it won't stay perfectly still since it isn't bolted in place. Overall this mount has worked very well.

My wife is going on a business trip next week and will be borrowing the GPS - I don't recommend she take the mount though - since the thing must way at least a couple pounds - too bulky and heavy to put in a suit case in my opinion.

  • Great product
    By AFLN0J0RVE4NR on 2005-08-15
received product quickly. Easy to set up. More stability than window mount. Used it to move to Pennsylvania. I loved it.

  • BRAVO - Works great on my dash
    By A2QPO91I51QNRY on 2005-09-22
A professional-fit mount for my car broke after 1 year, metal
fatique I quess. Window mounts aren't long enough to reach
from windshield bottom to driver view. This dash mount makes
it quick to remove all evidence of a GPS for theft protection,
especially important in a convertible. The mount stays on my
dash, which has a slight texture on the surface.

  • Great!
    By A2JWS43ZFJ4A7Q on 2006-01-07
This product is fantastic! It gets the GPS off the windshield and gives you back your view of the road. It stays where placed, if installed properly.
The people who gave this product poor reviews are either not adjusting it properly or, are on crack!

  • Dash Mount is the Way to Go!
    By A3TLU2CXO82M3Z on 2006-01-30
This is the second dash mount that I've bought - I've used the first for a year now and got this one for my father-in-law. I told him it was an essential item for his new Magellan unit, since the windshield mount the unit comes with is tough to mount and tough to unmount, and comes unstuck at inopportune moments, or refuses to come unstuck when you want it to. With the dash mount, it's easy and fast to take the unit off the dash when parking and place it on the floor out of sight. Also makes it convenient to move the unit from one car to another. Stop messing with that windshield mount and make your GPS more enjoyable.

  • Neve slips - NEVER
    By A2BW0TVAU11VI9 on 2006-09-21
One review says it always slips. I have used this in at least 30 different rental vehicles.
    Neve slips.
I wonder if the other person never bends the feet downward to make a sort of tripod of it.
    Repeat. It never slips.

  • This is a must have..
    By A3CSZP9K4SR44O on 2006-09-27
I am using Magellan 360 from 6 months and the unit dropped at least 4 times from the originally supplied windshiled mount. I do have 2 cars and never dare to transfer the unit to the other care due to sensitive feel of that windshild mount. And, also its hard to takeout the unit from the car and very difficult to turn/adjust the wind shiled mount.

Despite my strong desire to go for this Dash mount, I am skeptical whether my Magellan GPS unit will be secured given few negative reviews. I want to give it a try and finally made a decision to place the order. With a great sigh of releif, the dash mount is great! I used this in Hyndai Sonata as well as Hyundai Elantra dash mount and its not moving an inch while driving! The dash mount unit doesn't sit properly on Hyundai Elantra because the dash is curved. I beleive, the weight of the unit making it to stay on the Dash. Its easier to adjust height/angle. And can easily be taken out/transfer between cars!

    Pros:
    1. If you are using windshield mount, then without second thoughts you can go for this.
    2. Its secure and didn't fall on my Hyundai sonata and Elantra cars
    3. Can easily adjust height and can be rotated.
    4. You can very easily takeout the unit from the car. And, you can easily transfer between cars.

    Cons:
    1. Not a qulaity construction.
    2. The mount is not from Magellan...its made by Ram Infotech
    3. Doesn't even supplied in a box of it own. Packaged in Amazon boxes and there is not even a seperate bag for the screws. The unit and screws got dumped in a polythene bag.

Conclusion: Given the very poor windshiled mount and the available choices, this Dash mount is a must have for a magellan unit.

  • Great mount
    By A2PG5RPKTAQQB0 on 2006-07-09
Better than imagined. Works on all surfaces, even if they are not level. Portable so can be easily moved from vehicle to vehicle. Easy to adjust for irregular services, and if you buy an extra cradle all you have to do is clip and unclip your magellan for easy install and removal. Perfect.

  • Good solid build product
    By A2WZHEHDI0MYXR on 2006-07-14
Very good sitting on top of the dash.
Obviously, you can't Initial D with this thing on the dash.
good for cars with flat dash board.

  • Excellent alternative to windshield mount
    By A2LUAJ1FVZ468L on 2006-12-05
We have had this dash mount for over a year and love it. Can transfer it from car to car VERY EASILY, we use it in a large pickup truck, SUV and sedan with no problems. When parking it is very easy to put it "out of sight" for security reasons. My son-in-law who is in law enforcement loves ours and wants one for his car.

  • Roadmate 360 GPS Dash Mount
    By A1G80VM366DVM8 on 2007-01-20
The instructions for the mount were geared toward a higher level model such as the 700 - 800 series and did not specifically address the proper method of attachment to the 300 series units that do not have a cradle. It appears that the unit must be screwed directly into the mount. Otherwise, it does an excellent job in holding the Roadmate on the dash. The legs (arms) of the mount can be easily bent to conform to the dash surface so that it can be moved from car to car and adjusted to cling to the new surface.
