  • So far so good. . . and I could afford a better camera!

    By A2RGFDTT8UKIYI on 2004-12-27
Been using my 1.0gb card for several days (taking pictures, loading onto computer, and Walmart photo machine, etc.). So far it's working like a charm. The great thing about cards like this is that it allowed me to buy a better camera - let me explain. . . Because the memory cards that come with cameras are only a little better than the "prop" tv's you see in furniture stores, it is important to consider the high cost of a "real" memory card when you decide to buy a digital camera. In other words, a lot of people may have to seriously consider buying a cheaper camera because of the high cost of memory cards, camera cases, batteries, etc. Fortunately, cards like this allow you to stretch your "camera" dollars. In my case, it allowed me to buy a Canon SD300 instead of the old, error-prone S410. With my SD300, a 4 megapixel, and with the 1.0gb Sandisk, I'm getting 487 pictures on the highest resolution. WOOHOO! The only other comment I have is that some retailers are offering $20 rebates on this card - check CompUSA.com and Bestbuy.com for rebates. Why don't you have them, Amazon?

  • The Price I've Been Waiting For

    By A3EA78R9X7EDE7 on 2004-08-27
I have a Panasonic SV-AV100, a camcorder that uses flash instead of tapes. It's a wonderful, cigarette box sized camcorder the only downside of which needs a monster amount of memory. I finally purchased a Sandisk 1G after waiting and couldn't be happier. The read/write speeds are actually slightly better than my 512 Panasonic card and I have had no problems with computer recognition (running XP) or corrupt files which I've read happen to people from time to time.

I plan to purchase another on Amazon for my Treo so I can now use it as a serious MP3 player, storing roughly 300 songs. That's good enough for me...don't need to purchase an iPod for Christmas!

  • How many pictures will it store?

    By A25HBO5V8S8SEA on 2004-11-05
How many pictures will it store? It is the most commonly asked question from digital camera enthusiast but usually the question that is the most difficult to get a straight answer about. Well, considering I worked in the memory industry for over 7 years I can help clarify this perplexing question and do so unbiased as I have since changed industries.

The SanDisk SDSDB-1024-A10 Secure Digital 1GB, like most 1000MB cards, will store on average 1137 pictures when used with a 2 megapixel camera, 853 images when used with a 3 megapixel camera, 512 pictures when used with a 4 megapixel camera, 409 images when used with a 5 megapixel camera, and 320 pictures when used with a 6 megapixel camera. These numbers are based off the assumption that you are going to shoot your images at the highest quality JPEG setting available for the camera and understand that they are estimates and may be off by as much as 10 percent due to numerous factors including the complexity of the scene being shot and the compression algorithm used by your specific camera.

One last thing to consider when buying a 1000MB card. Do not necessarily choose the least expensive card available. A 1000MB card should be an investment. You need to consider quality, reliability, and speed with a card of this capacity. Worse case scenario would be you taking this card (and only this card) on vacation with you overseas and for some reason it gets corrupted. Then what do you do? Purchasing a high capacity card changes the game a little, just be mindful of that before you hit the buy button.

I truly hope this review was helpful to you in determining whether this card is the right capacity for your specific needs.

  • Mine seems faulty.

    By A1Z2Q8YXOEJN3E on 2004-10-11
I bought one of these from my local Fry's Electronics brand new. It seemed like a great deal with the price and all, but as I filled my card up with data, it seems to have some defective areas that corrupt my data. I think I'm going to have to try to get a replacement.

This corruption happens both when I'm using it on my PC with a USB SD Card reader I got from OfficeMax or on my Sharp Zaurus SL-5600 PDA. I don't remember my old 128MB Kingston SD Card having any trouble like this.

  • The SanDisk cards are excellent...

    By A2QEZU2SHYBHM5 on 2006-03-31
...and I'll take this opportunity to share a bit of information with you that is not known by most people. All SanDisk SD cards have an expected wear threshold of 100,000 writes per sector. This may sound like plenty, but it really depends on what you do with the card and how you use it.

I know one person who stores temporary Internet cache files on a 1 GB SanDisk card. If you browse 10 web pages per day with 20 files on each (this is pretty low actually - many pages have more than 100 images now days), that's 200 files per day.

Looking at it blindly, in 500 days you would have had 100,000 writes. This is not really fair, though, because not all writes would have been to the same sector. However, if you visit more like 50 pages per day and have your cache emptied once per day, you could actually "expire" one or more sectors on the card in less than a year.

My point is, mostly, this: SD cards do not last forever and you should keep this in mind as you store important data on these devices. The good news is that the way most of us use the devices they will keep on working for many years!

  • Died after one month
    By A7CDDJDUDWXGM on 2005-01-02
Worked fine for one month, it is now unrecognizable by all devices I have tried it in. Lost data. I have read similar reports about other Sandisk SD cards.

  • good deal from amazon.
    By A2NTTAZANQ17NQ on 2006-06-09
i just bought the 1GB memory card off of ebay for $10 + $18 s&h. When I received it, the memory card was obviously counterfeit. (there was no serial number anywhere) I wanted to use it with my new canon 550, but it couldn't be read by my computer. I emailed the seller and he said I could return it, and get a refund only for my $10! Forget it! The shipping costs alone to hong kong would be more than what I'd get refunded...and not so he can sell it to another unknowing buyer.

Buyer beware of counterfeits! I should have went with amazon and paid only $1 more and have the guarantee of a superior product....never again.

  • It's a memory card...
    By A1Z74CMZSBKZLG on 2006-05-30
To me, reviewing a memory card is somewhat moot. You know it will get the job done; the question is how much memory you are going to need. I have used SanDisk memory cards for years and have been satisfied with their other SD offerings. I have yet to have a card fail, especially after constant writing/erasing in less than stellar conditions. My use of this card is in a digital camera and my TREO 650 and has thus far yielded stable results. I mean it's a memory card. I can only get so excited. The latest round of memory price drops have made this 1 GB card an attractive buy. I would not think of getting anything smaller in memory capacity. This is a good buy.

  • Kodak camera owners take note...
    By A2R3MAQQY8NKKP on 2006-09-12
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR KODAK CAMERA OWNERS: In July 2006, I replaced a SanDisk regular SD card like this one with a SanDisk Ultra II card for my Kodak DX7590, because I was hoping that it would allow my camera to write high-quality 5MP pictures faster. But to my surprise, it timed exactly the same. So I emailed Kodak, and this was their response: "We appreciate your interest in high speed memory for your digital camera. Our cameras are designed to operate, write and read SD cards at set voltage speeds. Therefore, there is no advantage to using faster memory in Kodak cameras."

So if you use a Kodak dock or USB cable to transfer images from a Kodak camera to your computer, this standard SanDisk card is all you need...there's no advantage to paying extra for a high-speed card like the Ultra II. However, if you use a card reader to get images from the SD card to your computer, then it might be worthwhile to pay a little more for the Ultra II since read and write speeds through the card reader could be substantially faster.

  • Good Product, Poor Service
    By AMDXK0JBCM313 on 2005-11-20
First let me explain that this is a great product. I bought the card for my canon digital camera and haven't had any problems with it since.

The large capacity allows me to take it on long vacations without have to juggle multiple cards around. And as an avid, amateur photographer that is important.

The only gripe I have with the product is the rebate. I sent my original UPC code to SanDisk and now they are claiming it was incorrect. Luckily I had kept the packaging for just such an unfortunate occurrence. And as I had expected, I indeed did send them the UPC on the packaging; however, now they are refusing to follow up on their part of the deal.

I sent them a letter over two weeks ago and have not received a response. This is unacceptable. It is my understanding that the SanDisk people are crooks. Buyer beware.

  • Great for Digital cameras.
    By A386NVAVQV5WUO on 2006-07-06
I use this SanDisk SDSDB-1024-A10 1 GB Secure Digital Card for my digital camera; I have a Canon A 620 Power Shot; which is 7.1 Mega pixels. I can store (shoot) 515 pictures of the highest quality, on the card. So far its excellent, no problems at all; speed seems good, Picture quality and reliability excellent. I have Video capability on the camera ,but I don't use it, I have a Mini DV camcorder I use for shooting Video. So I can't commit on video storage on the card. I have one other 1 Gig Card, from SanDisk-slighty higer quality, and with these two cards, its all I need for vacations, family pics etc.,

  • Locked Card Errors
    By A1POS423UL4L80 on 2006-09-06
I had one episode of a "locked card error" and did an on line search for answers. I found one review that said you have to take the card in to have it fixed. However, if you look at the side of the card there is a tiny tiny sliding plastic switch that is a different color than the body of the card. If this is accidently moved to the locked position the card is locked. All you have to do to unlock the card is slide this switch back. The card works great and I have no complaints.

  • Works well
    By A2HY7IO37EMOKN on 2005-01-03
I have two of these. Both have worked well for about 3 months. Sandisk is the brand since they are for co-inventor of this standard.

  • SanDisk, I Can't Let You Go
    By A9Y5S2BKV7SYV on 2005-12-28
SanDisk is SO AWESOME! I can't even put it into words. That's why I wrote this short song to the tune of the popular Iggy Pop/Kate Pierson duet, "Candy":

    Beautiful beautiful
    Card from the north
    You stored my images
    SDSDB 1024
I had a dream that no one else could see
You gave me storage for free

I've had a hole in my slot for so long.
I've tried to fake it and just carry on.
    Out on the street
Those digital cameras are all the same.
They need a secure digital card
    Not games.
    Not games.

    SanDisk, SanDisk, SanDisk
    I can't let you go.
All my life, you're haunting me
    I loved you so-o-o.
    SanDisk, SanDisk, SanDisk
    Life is crazy
    (Life is crazy)
    SanDisk, baby.

  • Get this if you don't wanna miss your precious moments
    By AFY9TGSXQJ977 on 2006-04-30
This card is so fast that I could shoot pictures constantly with my Canon SD550. When I first open the box to see the card, I saw it was made in China and was a litte freaked out. But the quality didn't fail me at all. If you wanna snapshot your most precious moment, this is a must. And the price compared to other brand is so cheap yet it's working so well. Today I went on a trip and forgot my sandisk in my computer so I gotta borrow a Kingston 1GB (made in Japan) from my friend to take pictures. I was so pissed cos that card was so slow I missed most of my coolest pictures...
Bottom line: get this card, get this card, just get it :D

  • My Pocket PC Experience. Good.
    By A19XNXM00BSXV9 on 2006-01-02
I bought this card 14 months ago and used it heavily on my IMate Pocket PC then on my IPAQ4700. The card proves to be reliable.

I used it mostly to store images, e-books, documents, voice recordings, and Avantgo channels. In addition, I used it as a flash memory occasionally.

If you are a heavy user it is advised that you defragment the SD card on a monthly basis to reduce the possibility of file system being distorted. Using this practice I did not receive any errors, brilliant card.

I would recommend "Simple Tech BONZAI USB 2.0 CARD READER" ,which is a portable reader costing ($8 or less), in addition to this card as it would be possible to use this SD card as a flash memory accessible from all PC with Windows (Version 98 2nd Ed or later) or Apple Computers with USB1/USB2 drives.

If you want a faster and more reliable SD card that would stand more extreme weather circumstances I recommend "SANDISK SD Ultra II" that costs about $20 extra.

  • My experience with San Disk cards has always been positive
    By A1NB72U62SM9S5 on 2005-10-29
The 1 GB card I purchased is one of 7 San Disk cards I own. I have never had any problems with them. The only difference I can spot is that the 1 GB card does save slower as it fills up than a comparable one I have from a different manufacturer. It is not a noticeable difference unless you are excessively impatient or taking lots of quick shots. My remedy is to unload the card after each picture-taking adventure. I do not store on digital card so usually have no more than a few music files and 40-50 pics on a card at a time. No problems with failures or errors on these. Good product and good price.

  • It's Almost Too Big!
    By AWPODHOB4GFWL on 2005-06-19
I was always happy with my SanDisk 256 Memory Card, until even on one week vacations, I was deleting photographs to make room for more. That's a lot of pictures! This 1G is fantastic. Although it has many other functions (digital music players, cellular phones, handheld PCs (HPCs), digital video camcorders, smart phones, car navigation systems and electronic books, etc), I only use it for my Nikon 7.1 camera. Here is what I found out.

    For pictures:
High Quality Printable Pictures - 280 quantity
PC (low) Quality Pictures (Websites) - 4,100 quantity

    For Video Recording:
    TV Quality @ 30 f/s - 18 minutes
    Camera Quality (LCD) 15 f/s - 3 hours and 20 minutes

The only thing I am afraid of is losing it! One could always buy (4) 128mg cards or (2) 256mg cards, but this is a real bargain!

  • Great card but possible errors (speed problems) with Memory Card Error and or Card Locked
    By AD0J5KK4WQXNS on 2006-08-30
1GB card. Great. The problem is that it may not work with new Canon models like the Canon PowerShot S2 IS by giving a Memory Card Error and or Card Locked! error even though the card is unlocked. Sometimes you might not even be allowed to format this card in the camera. This may be due to some cards being faulty but it appears that many users are suggesting that the problem has to do also with the card speed and new Canon cameras. The only solution is to take the memory card back and get another brand. I got this card, it gave me the above errors. I got a different 1GB model (a 150X speed one) and it worked on the Canon Powershot S2 IS, no problem.

  • Very Useful
    By A10HMPPHWI3V0A on 2006-05-12
I've been using 128MB SD card for quite a few months now and had different devices with me all the time. Camera with SD card for pictures, Mobile phone (treo 650) with with SD Card and another flash mp3 player.

Recently upgraded to this 1GB card and now I can interchange this with camera, phone and my laptop (HP NC600) also which has a build in SD reader.

All in all, a great buy. I remember buying 1GB Flahs memory 1 year ago for $98. And this is just $50.

When you are buying any electronics, just keep in mind different storage options they have and try to interchange as much as possible. I know it doesn't relate much to this particular card, but applied to electronics in general. Now which this card, I could use my cell phone as a camera, mp3 player, ebook reader, immediately transfer data/audio/video to other devices, just amazing.

The performance with the computer has been resonable, Never had a problem in trasnferring data back and forth.

Worth the money, and the technology is widely accepted too (as long as you don't use Sony :)

  • Buy at your own risk
    By A1P43C3IQECL3B on 2006-06-06
On the surface, this seems to be a really good product, but I had something that I just wanted to share with you guys. I bought a 1.0 GB card to use in a SanDisk MP3 player and it has given me endless fits. The problem is this - I was loading the music files onto my card and one day an error message pops up that says the file cannot be created. Thing is, I only took up about 300 MB on a 1 GB card. It doesn't say it's full, it just says the file cannot be created. I took it to the store and even tried a different computer, but to no avail. The guys at the store said I might have a bad card. Now I have to pick and choose what I want on there, even though I've used less than a third of the available space. For all I know, my card may be one out of a million; maybe not. It's just frustrating to shell out 90 dollars for a product and only be able to use 30 dollars worth of it. Buyer beware.

  • A lot of memory in a small package.
    By A3NJCGROMKG9SR on 2005-06-15
I bought the SanDisk 1 GB card for my Kodak 5 megapixel camera. The 32 megs that come in the camera left me with a full memory, so I wanted more. It arrived quickly and installed easily. I'm amazed at how small a gig of memory is these days. My Kodak Dx7590 camera says that it has room for 632 pictures at the 5 megapixel maximum setting. At the 1.8 megapixel setting it says that I can shoot 1,554 pictures before running out of memory. Either of those is way more than I've had a chance to use before returning home and downloading them to my PC.

I got the 1gb after comparing all the smaller ones. I did think about buying two or four smaller SD cards instead of the larger one. Now I'm glad to have the whole gig of memory instead of two or three smaller ones. I don't have to carry the extras cards and open the camera in rain or dust.

I did some comparison shopping on e-bay and elsewhere and found that the Amazon price, including shipping, was equal or less and it wasn't from some vendor I've never heard of. If you have a camera or other product that takes the SD cards, the price is hard to beat and the convenience of a lot of memory is very nice. As the old computer pros say, "you can never have too much memory."

  • 1 GB SanDisk SD card
    By AOWPCVUSKH3RT on 2006-03-17
Great for digital photos - 1GB is the prefect size for vacation trip pictures. One caution, the prices are dropping quickly. I got a very good price from Amazon, but if you aren't in a hurry you may want to wait to buy and watch the prices. The new 2GB cards are out there now (...)

  • Great Purchase
    By A2RCW68DVTNZJL on 2006-01-03
I got this memory card a few weeks ago to store pictures from my new HP M517 and I must admit: it was a great purchase. It stores more than 350 pictures when the camera is on 5 Megapixel Best mode. I have lots and lots of space now. This memory card is also fast when I transfer my pictures to my PC. It is a very good item. Congratulations SanDisk on this great product.

  • Don't forget this important item!
    By A10CSXPWLDFUYV on 2006-07-01
When you are buying a new camera, don't forget to get more memory. After taking approx. ten pictures, we were out of basic memory in our new camera. Thank goodness we had remembered to bite-the-bullet up front and include the purchase of the 1GB digital card, with the camera package. Don't settle for the cheaper and smaller card, you'll soon realize that the gig is the way to go!! Especially when you are on vacation and away from your computer or printer and you always want to have memory room for that last important picture, however many "last" pictures become before you get home.

  • Excellent Storage Card For My Casio Camera
    By A9WZ2OBK7UFRV on 2006-07-07
The SanDisk 1 GB SD card worked perfectly and is fast enough that I did not have any problems with using it for my Casio camera. I read one review on this card when the reviewer was unhappy because his card would only hold a small number of files which was not nearly the capacity of the card. The SD card functions like a removeable hard drive. The root directory of a hard drive will only allow a limited number of files. You have to create at least one folder on the SD card and that folder will allow the entire capacity of the card to be stored in it.

the one gig sd card works better than i thougt it would. it is by far the cheapest one i've ever found and i'll probably get another one soon.
FYI: i use the card in my nikon digital camera. with the pics set to 6 megapixals and using the uncompressed format(approx 1.8 meg ea.), i have 190 pics and 10 short 1 min movies and the card is about 80 percent full.

    that is awesome...........barny B

  • Finally it's here!
    By A5JLAU2ARJ0BO on 2004-01-09
Sandisk has started production of the 1GB SD card and they will be shipped to distributors by late Jan. 2004, according to PC World web edition. This comes almost a year after the initial product announcement, and will be welcome news for digital photographers who take lots of 5+ megapixel TIFF pictures. I'll order one when Amazon offers it and post a review later.

  • Good Product
    By A235NETOI4XQJA on 2005-10-28
I recently got a digital camera. It only had a 128mb card. This card is pretty cool. Instead of roughly 16 pics, I can take like 125.
