  • Great Quality

    By A2GANR9I6XHTU9 on 2006-08-21
I had a hard time finding a laptop bag in the stores that was big enough for a 17 inch widescreen and when I did see a couple here and there they were of inferior quality. Then I came on Amazon and saw this one. This is the Perfect bag with ample room to store all you need. You can fit a lot in the bag besides the laptop. It contains several other compartments to store whatever else youd like to take along with you. The bag is made of high quality leather and has an adjustable strap you can either attach or just carry the bag by the handle. This is a very well made notebook holder and you will be proud to carry it. Highly Recommended/Good Value for the money.

  • "Excellent Product At A Very Reasonable Price"

    By A161L5ZRHYAF2P on 2006-03-24
I own a HP Pavilion zd8000 laptop with a 17" screen and I wanted to buy a light leather case for it. I searched HP website and they highly recommended the Targus TLE400 for my laptop. I am glad I bought it because my laptob is already 9 lbs in weight and all the other cases for sale out there are too bulky and too heavy. This case is very light considering is made of leather, it only weights 5.1 lbs.
Even though is a light case and it will accomodate a 17" screen comfortably and you still have room for the power cord and other miscellaneous components you might need to carry with you.
It's rugged and I am sure that it will last me a long time but at the same time Targus offers a Limited Lifetime Warranty, so you can't go wrong.

  • A Quality Product

    By AWI5RI03379E0 on 2006-07-31
My new MacBook Pro 17" fits the Targus TLE400 case with room to spare and padding to protect this expensive laptop. I also carry around the power adaptor, a mouse, file folders and paper for meetings, and frequently a GPS sensor. The case is relatively lightweight, but made of good material. The leather is very nice, but there is also a lot of plastic in this case. However, it is also of good quality. I like the rubber skids on the bottom of the case and the double zippers for most closures. The removable velcro mesh pocket is great for storing the Mac's power adaptor and an ethernet cable. I never use the cell phone pocket, but I do use the pencil/pen holders and the various size pockets for media, spare batteries, etc. I enjoy the comfortable shoulder carrying strap, but I frequently also use the smaller handles when picking up or moving the case/computer. I would buy it again.

  • When a Roller Bag won't do

    By A2GGKJ318HO2GE on 2008-03-21
Sometimes a roller bag is overkill for my 17" HP Pavalion Laptop. For an inhouse or local city meeting - I needed a carry an over the shoulder strap attache for my 'puter.

    The Good:

Carries my 17" laptop and a suite of accessories in convenience and style. Swallows the power brick, backup & software disks, travel mouse, 4 port powered USB hub, 160 GB pocket drive, a case of w/r DVDs, A Canon point and shoot digital camera, extra SD memory chips, 4 AA spare batteries/charger and a power strip.

    The Bad:

Needs slightly more padding for my taste. Bought a padded sleeve that has become so popular these days as an after market computer accessory doing double duty - after judging the level of shock protection offered was inadquate and the zippers are possible lethal weapons - not able clear the laptop w/o scratching the big hunk of plastic case. An ok - inexpensive workaround.

    The "Ugly"

Ok, not really ugly - but I liked the movie metaphor.

I'm a guy - so what do I care about how luggage looks, right? Well - I expected genuine soft cowhide leather and got something a little less. My rollerbag ...Targus TXL717 17 XL Rolling Notebook Case is nylon - ok - I expected Nylon. Targus constructed a notebook case using nylon in less exposed areas, and what is probably SPLIT leather - still attractive till you get up close - and then you see how it met its pricepoint. If I'm going nylon, I 'll get nylon. This bag is a mixture of materials with leather surfaces. Bought it as an impulse item. Next time I'll spring a few more bucks for quality leather - harder to find for a 17" laptop case. The case is still worth 4 stars in my judgement. Based on price and convenience - I dinged it a bit for construction and engineering. Would I buy it again? - yes (but would have slightly lower expectations)...

    Conclusion:

An ok bag in what I think is split leather at an attractive price. Buy a padded sleeve for your laptop - gives it extra shock and scratch protection using this case. The sleeve then becomes a PITA at the airport - a two step process to take the laptop out for TSA inspection. A better padded roller bag or case is a better choice here - leave the sleeve and this case home when you take your 17" laptop for an airplane ride

  • No complaints

    By A340H40KL7X4OO on 2007-01-23
I've been using this case ever since I got my laptop back in early December, so after using it for two months now I can honestly say I have had no complaints. I can easily fit everything I need into the various pockets/compartments. Plenty of room for my power cable/adapter, USB full-sized mouse, car adapter, and even room for my portable USB speakers. I have a 17" laptop and it fits perfectly fine in the middle. I'm only a college student, not like a high-class business professional so I will admit I was a little skeptical when I got it that it would look maybe a little too "glossy" or something, but after a day or so I barely noticed and it really does look nice.

Great product and it definitely does what it's supposed to do, I recommend this product based on my use thus far.

  • Great Deal
    By AIO5Y7PPYR3JJ on 2007-06-11
This is a great case for under fifty bucks. It looks professional, is solidly made, and has plenty of pockets. The space for the computer could use more padding, particularly since it has room to spare. (Don't use this bag for any computer smaller than 17".) I didn't notice any odd smell, as another user noted.

  • Not so "deluxe" - OK but could be LOTS better
    By A3R2M5ABAYL63P on 2009-03-27
First, I have an 8-year-old leather Targus case that I REALLY LIKE.

I just received a monster HP HDX-18 (yes, 18-inch display) from work. I needed a new case. The TLE400 is only sorta OK - my honkin' "laptop" fits, but there are a few design details missed for no good reason, and at the time I got it, no other leather case was available from Targus.

    What they missed:

    - no fully-opening "lid" on the case. An 18-incher is HEAVY and hard to get in and out of the case. This is far and away the major flaw with the design. Zipper handles moved to either end get lost behind strap attach shackles.

    - 2-loop handle is annoying. Thin. Nylon is annoying. Each loop is off center, so bag hangs funny if picked up with only one loop. If full lid were present, only one (centered) handle with larger leather pad would work fine.

    - better front-pocket design with mesh pockets so I can see what's in them. The key-clip is good. Stretchy pen loops aren't - the elastic is gonna die eventually.

    - Slightly heavier leather with wider-radius edges is needed. Maybe this is a break-in issue. My old case is wonderful, so I wonder how the thinner leather of this case will age.

    - Needs better shoulder strap with larger pad. Strap shackles hang up on edges of case, hard (almost impossible) to unwind strap while walking.

    - Ditch the cell-phone pocket. Risky leaving phone there, and it sticks out annoyingly.

    enough for now...

  • Great Bag for the Money
    By AQYVOZ5DYAF3Q on 2008-02-08
This is a great bag for the money. I did a lot of searching online, as well as in stores, and for a low price, this bag had the most room inside for my new 17 inch macbook pro, even when I have it in it's protective padded sleeve! Many other bags I have tried, were advertised as fitting a 17 inch computer, but I had to squeeze the laptop in! Think of getting into your skinny jeans after the Holidays, it's like that! Plus, it's a good looking bag, it falls nicely against your body, and it has a comfortably padded adjustable shoulder strap. It also has a lot of nice little compartments inside the outer flap for accessories. I spent my budget on a top grade computer, the bag was secondary. All top grain leather bags start around $250, and go up to $400 and more... So, if you want to impress people with a designer leather case, this is not the bag for you. The Targus bag looks nice, and has a ton of room, but you won't see this bag on the fashion runways in New York. However, it is a great bag when you are heading to the runways... at the airport!

  • Great bag and excellent price
    By A3NQOLG52M7ID1 on 2007-07-05
This has been a great purchase. Plenty of room for a 17-inch laptop and is a high quality case with plenty of extra places to store other items.

  • Doe not feel like a true laptop bag, most likely will scratch laptops with glossy finishes
    By AVKNZPKFNVE28 on 2008-11-12
This bag is just not for me. The bag feels more like an executive brief case and not a true laptop bag. My biggest complaint is NONE of the zippers open the bag up completely, making it difficult to remove the laptop and place larger accessories in other slots. (I knew that before ordering. I did not know it would cause this problem) If you have a nice laptop, like I do. Over time a laptop will end up scratched many times over due to the friction of pulling it over the zippers in and out.

  • HORRIBLE!
    By AIB7GH9622AXM on 2009-08-17
No the bag isn't horrible, but the other reviews here are horribly misleading.

The glowing reviews would lead you to believe that you could waltz into a business meeting with this bag and feel confident about your professional appearance. The moment you open the box this bag SCREAMS budget. I don't why other reviewers thought the quality of this leather was good... it is very budget leather even if it is real leather (which I'm not sure of even after prodding and poking it several times).

The other misleading thing is that thing bag is HUGE!! 17"?? This thing could probably easily fit a 19" laptop! I own an alienware 17" bag that has just gotten grimy over the years, and I thought THAT bag was big... this bag is wider by several inches in each dimension so I am sure a 19" would easily fit...

BOTTOM LINE... make no mistakes... this is a 19" budget laptop bag. High/school college student, rough/travel use, back up bag, go right ahead and buy it. Professionals or anyone with taste, steer clear.

  • Good quality, sturdy notebook bag
    By A1J9THN17WP2N1 on 2007-03-22
It's a good quality notebook bag that can fit 17" laptops/notebooks easily. Balances well on your shoulder (unlike some bags that rest lopsided). Good, strong stitch. It can get heavy, but then again you're carrying around a 17" laptop.

  • Targus Notebook Case
    By A2XOYNLPHXAB03 on 2007-01-20
I was pleasantly surprised. It has all the room I need for ancillary items besides my computer.

  • Picture looks better than actual product
    By A3Q8BN1RDHLGSS on 2010-05-27
Not a deluxe model by any stretch of the imagination.
In my opinion this is very poor grade leather, if it even is leather all over. It just feels like imitation leather, kind of plastic/rubber feeling.
This has an unattractive bulging outside pocket for a cell phone, (the large older type cell phones), not classy. Handles uncomfortable if holding a long time. It is a just functional bag, the one I received had stitching coming loose and separating the handle from the case. I returned mine the next day, and was cheerfully given a refund.
It also felt bulky and heavy, the edges IMO were rubberized material.
If this were 25.00 cheaper I would say try it out, but it is too costly for the quality of this case.

I purchased a different laptop case (almost the same cost) from Amazon and am glad I did, well made and sturdy, and clean lines. I didn't pick the value line, it wasn't as nice or well made as this one I purchased Caselogic PNC-17 17-Inch Slimline Laptop Case (Black)
You really can't beat Amazon customer service if any issues come up.

  • Targus (TLE400) 17" Deluxe Leather Notebook Case
    By AIRWNCDPRRG4C on 2008-10-12
The Targus TLE400 is a perfect case for my Dell 17" laptop and my Canon LiDE90 scanner. The laptop and power cord fit nicely into the center compartment and the scanner fits into the "file compartment" side. There is plenty of room in the compartment on the opposite site of the case for the mouse, cables and miscellaneous items. I am very pleased with the case and Amazon's usual prompt handling of my order.

  • Overall, a good product
    By AIST7V8XF4A18 on 2007-11-29
This is a good product for someone who travels a lot and needs a good looking, sturdy bag that has lots of pockets and space. As one reviewer observed, this bag is not 100% leather. But, it's from Targus and the quality/price ratio is pretty good. I would recommend this product!

  • Targus Notebook case-Exceptional value
    By A3EUVDLAD4NNLN on 2007-11-03
Although the Tatgus TLE400 notebook case is a bit on the expensive side, this Deluxe Leather case is well worth the extra expense. It is roomy with plenty of pockets for periferals, cords, USB drive, Power adapter or whatever. Plus a side pocket for your paperwork that will hold legal size folders and an end pocket for your cell phone. The leather is suptle and the comfortable, padded shoulder strap is angled to help stay in place. Downside, it is a bit heavy when fully loaded and the zippers are a bit stiff to use. Also it could use extra padding strips for the notebook compartment. But if you have a 17 inch notebook, this is the case for it; the only case I found that actually fits my Acer 17 inch perfectly. Or, even if you have a 15 inch notebook but need to carry legal size folders this would be the case to have.

  • Very good buy
    By A143FWC8Z0MMFJ on 2007-07-27
I have purchased several 17 inch laptop cases/carriers and found them all to be too heavy, too bulky, and/or lacking file folder section or other storage elements. The only way that this item could be improved would be to add wheels and a telescoping handle without increasing the bulk/weight.

  • disapointed
    By A608GTCJPP5RZ on 2010-04-05
The case isnt cheap so I expected it to hold up better. The handle tore at the point of attachement and I almost dropped my laptop in the street. I had only owned the case about 8 months and think it should have lasted longer. Its fancy, but not durable enough for my life style.

  • Targus TLE400 17 Deluxe Leather Notebook Case
    By A2PTI0A4TZ9I73 on 2010-03-02
This is the first Notebook Case I have ever purchased and will be used for a new Dell Studio 17 Laptop. I recommend considering reviews from others who have had experience with laptops and travel cases first. It is a well constructed product for the selling price and I expect will adequately protect my laptop under routine use, perhaps with the inclusion of a "sleeve", which has been suggested by others. The capacity for peripheral equipment is tremendous as well as documents and folders. This is a large bag and should be presumed heavy. I would estimate the typical carrying capacity up to 30LBS+ if necessary. The materials used are appropriate by a major manufacturer for the intended use of the product and price range and I think Targus knows what they are doing. I travel internationally frequently so the true test will come. I am a retired Operations Manager with FedEx and have seen years of package handling and abuse and am confident with this purchase. Again, an inner protective "sleeve" would be an excellent additional and inexpensive safeguard and definitely do save the dessicant packets used in packaging to reduce moisture for your use. Regarding styling, the appearance is respectable for the price range, and I work regularly on Fifth Avenue, Madison Avenue and Broadway in New York and would not feel slighted by carrying this bag. Disregard reviews that are extremely negative as these individuals appear to have particular expectations that may be beyond typical consumer/user needs.

  • Targud leather quality fading
    By A27YCPYI4ZRLXY on 2007-12-29
I have bought several targus products over the years. Their quality standards were always high. With the TLE400 17" the leather quality is poor. If i would have known this before I bought, I wouldn't have. Targus has lost my trust.

  • Will not last long.
    By A1V95FVM1YXG4C on 2010-06-01
I was forced to buy this bag, in a way. I couldn't find anything else other than the Targus XL Backpack that would fit my 17" Dell Inspiron. Since I was trying to replace the XL backpack this became the only choice. The one good thing about it is my laptop fits in it. I had tried other backpacks such as various NorthFace products which advertised they could fit a 17" laptop but none really could. The Targus bag looked OK on-line but when you see it up close its different. It's not all leather it has its fair share of pleather and plastic. It wears out fast. I have used mine for 3 months and it already looks worn and haggard. Only buy this if you can't find another bag that will work for your laptop.

  • Great bag for oversized laptop
    By A26ZQ8STNQXTAO on 2009-05-10
I had to hunt to find a bag to handle my new oversized laptop (HP HDX 18). This laptop has an 18.4" screen.

As I researched, I wasn't even sure this bag would handle it, but was hoping as it is designed for 17" laptops.

To my delight, it handles it with a tad bit to spare.

It has convenient pockets for many things and I am able to store paperwork, etc..

Overall, great bag that makes it comfortable to carry a behemoth laptop.

  • This bag fits Sony Vaio AW 18.4" laptop
    By A1NVJ7AXS8OFI5 on 2009-02-16
Whoever has Sony Vaio AW series 18.4" screen, this bag will fit your laptop.
I have the laptop and was looking for the bag and was very hard to find the bag to fit the laptop.
I found one review from this bag that it fits the laptop so I bought and tried.
It perfectly fits the laptop but you have to be careful little bit when you remove or put your laptop in and out so the zipper won't scratch your laptop.

  • nice computer case
    By A3ANBM4WO3ZIM8 on 2009-01-11
I bought this computer bag for my partner as a Christmas gift. He decided he didn't want that big of a bag, rather a smaller "brief" size case. I write this review to let folks know that although the bag was returned, it was a very nice bag - especially for the business man who carries his computer PLUS other stuff - briefs, pens, cords, network cables, etc. The quality of the craftsmanship seemed very good as well. If it hadn't been for the fact that he wouldn't be taking this computer with him for work for this job, he would have kept it in a heartbeat. Hope that helps everyone!

  • Super Notebook Case... for HP9500 17"
    By A709E88FBCWLT on 2008-01-25
My new HP9500 17" is wider then most and this notebook case has room to spare. Offers great protection and is very stylish to boot. I like the flat bottom so that it stands when you put it down. The leather is of good quality and should hold up for a long time. It's easy to carry. No qualms in recommending it. It's not a lightweight, but that's offset by storage for other items. Great product!

  • GREAT PRODUCT!
    By AQAF94DFJRZKM on 2008-01-02
This is a great bag. Tons of space for file folders, cell phone, jump drives, disks, etcetera. The bag also fits (tightly) a 17" notebook computer, and holds it securely. The bag seems well-made, including zippers, handles, and material. Great for the price! Five stars. I hope this review helps you.

  • Lots of space for the 17" dell vostro 1700
    By A2IX9EO0C3ZEWB on 2008-01-01
I bought it for my dell vostro 1700 and am glad with my purchase especially because of the all black leather complements the all black colored Dell Vostro :). Its quite spacious too so you can keep several other travel accessories like mouse and stationaries. I went for this one as i was quite satisfied with my purchase of 15" backpack from targus which i use for my work laptop and have been using it for almost an year now.

  • BIG and heavy
    By A3V53U0Y23JZH7 on 2007-09-01
    a lot of space inside
If you carry around a lot of gear this bag is foryou
If you don't need to pack EVERYTHING... buy a smaller one
It's too tall for a 17 widescreen. The width is ok
The fabric inside looks and feels cheap
The outside is OK- looks and smells like leather

Good for the money and for going on longer trips (I think you could fit a few personal higiene items in there and some light clothing )

  • Tons of space
    By A1TZJSJWPLGSVA on 2007-08-23
I really like how much stuff you can store with your 17 inch laptop - makes for a heavy carry-on at the airport, but books, cords, etc all fit very easily.
