  • Not baby blue, but NOT purple either- great watch!

    By A1PAGHECG401K1 on 2006-05-27
I almost did not buy this watch because a reviewer stated it was a "bright glowing purple". But I needed a new watch and decided to go ahead with it.

I was very surprised to open the box and find a watch very similar in color to the one shown in the photo. I'm thinking the gentleman who received the purple watch was most likely shipped the wrong item. I'd call the color of a watch a perinwinkle/cornflower blue, at the most. It certainly reads blue from across the room. It's not a "glowing purple" at all. And after a few days in the sun/in chlorine, the color is going to fade a bit. It's impossible to prevent in any watch.

In addition to loving the color, I really like the function and design of the watch. Very easy to set (which is a relief compared to the newer watches on the market that require a complex series of button presses that must be executed within a specific time frame), and very comfortable to wear. I love the updated design features of the watchband- I especially love the rounded pewter buckle and the way the wristband "locks" into place under the slider. Most of my Timex watchbands usually wore out before the watch itself did, and I can tell the design improvements are intended to extend the life of the band. Everything is designed to prevent the cracking and friction that causes the band to break, especially for those of us who are going to expose this watch to a lot of chlorine.

I swim two miles a day, so I need a watch that's going to hold up well underwater, exposed in chlorine, and used under the sun. The watch is very easy to read, even during quick glances during turns. Easy chrono- starts and stops with the press of a large button on the face.

    Indiglo is a bonus, too!

I sort of strayed away from Timex a few years ago, but I'm really glad I ordered this. I love the design, the really nice color, and the funtionality.

  • The ironman watch that lives in fear of water!

    By A20XNKM7ZL6E71 on 2006-09-13
I got this for my wife. She had an older model and it lasted for years until the case cracked. So I got this as a replacement.

The first swim it went dead, water got into it. So we returned it. She has had the replacement for 6 months and swims in a pool with it once a week. Well the second one has died, once again from water. I am trying to get this replaced, maybe the third time will be a charm.

It is getting to the point that we will have spent more on shipping for returning the watch then what we paid for it in the first place.

I will update when we see how the third watch does

  • Even great for moms on the go!

    By A2OU9Y8IE1M8UL on 2007-08-01
This is a great sports watch but I realized an additional plus. It has a timer feature! We were recently on vacation and when our three year old acted up, we had an easy way to time his "time outs". I really love the "chrono" feature and the fact that it can be paused. The intervals are great for walkers/runners. The watch is super easy to use. To be honest, I'm kind of retarded when it comes to anything technical but I can work this watch! I like that it's water resistant and it has endured weeks of beach time, kayaking and swimming.

My only complaint is that the alarm is much too sweet. Again, on vacation, it was too gentle too wake me. Luckily, it woke my husband who woke me. Timex, you may want to look at that alarm. I appreciate that you leaned toward "not obnoxious" but this alarm is almost lullaby-like. While it may not be a function meant to wake people, when traveling, some us do rely on our watches...

All in all, I am super pleased and I would recommend this to anyone who wants a sports watch. It's been my companion through all of my summer activities and has done just about everything I hoped it would.

  • 3 years old, band just broke, swim weekly, a mom's timer, GREAT!

    By A2SUIJQCHBHXML on 2007-06-25
I have worn this watch for 3 years and only taken it off for date nights out with my husband. I've had no complaints and only minor wear and tear. One corner of the watchband partially released from the watch a year ago. I superglued it back and never thought about it again. Now, the band has cracked halfway through at the holes and I'll have to replace the watch. Bummer. THe silver rubbed off the faceplate after the first year and a half. I wish the aesthetics were more durable but it has worked great. My neighbor has a 2 year old blue model and her colors have not faded, altered, and her faceplate color hasn't worn off. They may have fixed my issues in the manufacturing in the past 2 years. I have used every function except the interval timer.

Instant "Time-Out" timer and bedtime alarm. I'm a mom of preschoolers and kindergarteners. I got this watch because after 3 months of testing every timer out there, this watch switched modes to a preset timer in two quick touches of one button. I can have the 3 minute "Time-Out" timer in the right mode (without looking at it) before I can get my child's butt on the floor. AWESOME! It also has three alarms so I have bedtime, schoolbus leaving, and 5 minute warning for the schoolbus return alarms. The alarms let you choose daily, weekends, or weekdays for each of the three. Very helpful. The bedtime timer changed bedtime overnight from a whiny event. There was no negotiating with the watch. It said it was bedtime so it was time to go upstairs. No more 5 more minutes more, etc. It was time. It has grown well from toddlers to preschoolers to school age kids with me.

Water resistance. I have had this watch in and out of hot tubs, pools, showers and baths for 3 years. No problems. I use the buttons to time how long the kids hold their breaths in the pool and hot tub, and for the last 6 months I time my swim laps weekly. I have had no water issues. It didn't go dead on contact with water and I push the buttons underwater every week. I see from the reviews that others have had these problems. I hope my next one doesn't. I'm definitely getting another one. My husband recently got the men's version and he uses it to time run and swim splits also, no complaints.

  • Great for a while, then poof -- trash!

    By AFWQKYGT6N1FV on 2006-08-19
I bought this watch in November 2004 and I loved it. I've worn Timex Ironman watches since I was in college (circa 1987) and this was my favorite one of all time. Crisp clear display, great functionality, easy on-the-fly timer operation, 3 alarms! The first thing that started bugging me was how dirty the band started to look. Not a terribly big deal, but it was very grungy looking after a fairly short time. The resin band just seems to absorb dirt. Then the resin band peeled off from around watch face. I superglued it back, but it peeled off again eventually. Then the little tabs holding it in place broke off. Then the plastic face cracked and kept falling off. I could snap it back in, but eventually it fell off without my noticing and I lost it. Then I went swimming and water got in the watch. Then it died. End of story. It is now August 2006, so the watch lasted less than two years. That's hardly what I'd call "taking a licking and keeping on ticking" and definitely not what I've come to expect from these watches after 20 years of wearing them.

  • warning: the wristband is purple (looks faded blue in the picture, but its a bright glowing purple)
    By A12NIJ04O5DCI7 on 2006-05-16
i chose this watch because its blue color perfectly matched my wife's running outfit and her gym bag. sadly when the watch arrived the wristband was PURPLE not blue.

i called in and amazon couldn't help me. they looked at the picture and said that the image was indeterminate - could be blue, could be purple. but, in reality the picture is a pretty faded blue and the watch itself is nothing like the picture, it is instead a bright glowing purple.

they said return the item and choose another one, which is frustrating, time consuming, and another two weeks without a watch.

otherwise the watch seems to be great. works great. has great features. too bad ugly. who wants a bright purple watch?

  • Great Watch!
    By A35UMXTCPJXXNY on 2006-11-10
This watch has all the features I wanted and more! It hasn't fallen apart like many of the reviews claim, and I don't think it will anytime soon.

The only downside I have found is that if you swim as much as I do(2 hours daily), the color fades and you have to wash it constantly to keep the mold from growing on it.

When I got the watch, it was a very pretty color...not exactly what was pictured(more purple than blue).

    I definetely reccommend this watch.

  • Sleek and stylish.
    By A1OMXVXXP07F05 on 2007-05-19
This is a great watch for the workout minded female. Very cool and sleek. The band is awesome. I wish they would come up with something similar for the guys Ironman since sweat soaks into our bands, rather than just slide off for the womans.

If you have a wife or girlfriend that runs or works out, you will not go wrong with this purchase.

  • DO NOT BUY THIS WATCH!
    By A3SN7M8CY1180T on 2006-08-19
When I saw this watch, I thought it was perfect! It had all the settings I wanted, the color and everything. It was working fine until I went swimming with it!!! Then it stopped working! Water got in, even though it says it is water resistent up to 100M.

And, not only did this watch break on me, but another one exactly the same, also broke in the water too! How can this watch claim to be an Ironman Triathlon watch when it can't even go in the water and get wet?!!!!

This happened to me twice on the exact same make and model of watch, so I would DEFINATELY NOT RECOMMEND THIS WATCH TO ANYONE!!! It sucks. it is NOT water resistent or water proof and does not work in the water!!!! I am very, very disappointed with my purchase!!!

  • Not water resistant
    By A228TCABRT07JG on 2006-09-14
This watch has worked well for me as a running watch for about 6 months, but I agree with those who said that it's not water resistant. I wore it in the baby pool with my kids where it was never more than inches under water and not for very long each time, and the watch filled with water. I dried it out and it still works fine, but it's certainly not a watch to wear swimming. (and my watch is indeed blue, not at all purple).

  • Looks great and easy to use
    By A26MU55GSI0LSY on 2006-11-09
I am very happy with my watch. The buttons are large and easy to use. The functions are also easy to understand; I learned to operate everything without reading the manual.

  • Terrific watch, crappy band
    By A3HW59Y7ZHK43Q on 2007-04-08
I'd give the watch five stars, and the band maybe two stars, or possibly three considering it's not like it fell apart, unlike some of the Timex men's watches. It sure has faded, though, from a pretty blue to kind of grubby looking gray. Unlike the reviewer who said her watch faded from the chlorine in the pool, I think mine has just faded from use and exposure to sweat and body oil, since it's faded on the inside of the band as well as the outside. I rarely swim, and use my watch mostly when running.

That said, I like it enough that I recently bought another one with a black band. I am no electronic whiz-kid when it comes to watch functions, and this is the first chrono I've had that doesn't cause me to say "*^$@*!!" when trying to actually get it to do something besides just tell time! It's very easy to use, even while in motion. The numbers are easy to read and the alarms are audible in a noisy environment. Overall a good functional product with a disappointing band.

  • Iron Maiden Watch
    By A1PG98L1ZC2AC5 on 2007-06-13
I received this watch just a few hours ago, from Amazon. Shipped very quickly. Local store sells this watch for $59.95. Pretty colored band, slightly on the purplish side, which is a nice feminine color. The band is flexible, comfortable rubber. Light weight, numbers clear and easy to read. Looks like real Timex quality to me. So far, I am happy with this great value purchase. If I change my mind, I will revise this review.

  • I love this watch
    By A2H0CQ56W2YNOM on 2007-06-17
I was a little nervous about getting this watch because of reviews I had read about it not being water resistant, however, I have worn mine in the water a couple of times, taken it on water rides, and showered with it, and it is still perfectly fine!

I use it mostly to time my laps, and for this it is perfect. The function is really easy to use, and the lap button big and easy to press in the middle of a run. I would even go so far as to say that this watch has helped me to become a better runner.

As for the color, I feel it is the very similar to what the picture indicates, mine is nowhere close to being purple.

My only complaint would be that the watch band gets a little sticky when I sweat during a run, but that is to be expected, and really doesn't bother me too much.

  • Pretty, sporty, intuitive
    By A1ID0I0M8JTCZE on 2007-01-09
This is the first one of this kind of watch that is so intuitive I have been able to set and reset without careful review of the instructions. I actually had to ditch my previous sports watch because the functions were not only not intuitive, the instructions made things worse. This watch is a pretty periwinkle blue and is quite functional. Excellent purchase.

  • styling functionality
    By A1IN577UE7Z7E6 on 2007-04-10
Great features -- easy to use while running, but not particularly durable -- the band falls apart. This is my wife's third in 3 years. Despite limited durability, cost, looks, and features rate it 4 stars.

  • Watch with gusto
    By AOY6U0LL1UYGR on 2007-06-02
I enjoy being able to have a watch that my children can tote around as a teething ring and Bracelet. This has been very durable. I wear it around a belt loop and it has held up wonderuflly.

  • bought this make and model twice--failed me both times
    By A33LHYEOM70UTM on 2007-07-07
I bought this watch in the same make and model twice. I loved the color and the many functions and still do BUT they were both not water resistant. Like many others before me have said, once it got wet, it died on me. The first time this happened it died after about 8 months and I thought it was just a fluke. So I bought this same watch again and it died on me in less than 6 months this time after being exposed to water. I used to think timex ironman triathlon watches were great because I got a black one just like this 5 years ago with the same exact functions and it actually was water proof. But after about 3 years of extreme wear and tear the strap got hard and broke. However, I would prefer 3 years of good use to 6 months of limited use. Don't make my mistake!

  • I love this watch!
    By A12VUMIPD8QAT3 on 2007-08-23
I got this watch for a birthday present a while ago, and wore it every so often. In the beginning of June, I started wearing it much more regularly as I began to train for running, open water swims, and biking. I'm still working out the instructions (I didn't really have the attention span to read all the fine print) but I'm so happy with the watch! I've worn it in the pool and in the bay, with absolutely no problems. One note on the water resistance, though, that is clearly stated in the instructions: DO NOT PRESS THE BUTTONS UNDERWATER.

The color is very nice, the alarm is loud enough, the glow is nice, and I like the interval program. The only wish I have is that you could store more than one set of intervals on there... but then, maybe you can and I just haven't worked it out. The band is still intact after all the use, and just a little dingy, but it's nothing some cleaning won't fix.

  • sports watch
    By A1E1UZ6QOLR930 on 2007-05-12
I am well pleased with this sports watch - which I mainly use on weekends - especially to time my bike rides.
The only (slight) problem with it is that the words on the buttons are very tiny but I'm not sure how this could be solved with the space limitations.

  • Awesome Watch, but didn't even last a whole month in the water!
    By A2TIX0LAL1XWHG on 2007-07-10
I wouldn't say I am an avid swimmer, but within a month my watch was already chipping and now it won't work at all due to water leaking into the face. A little disappointed in the quality, and hoping that my replacement will be more sucessful.

  • Great Watch
    By A2EITOHRI0D6R2 on 2007-08-18
My purpose to buy this watch is for swimming. I was hasitating after reading the reviews. However, the deal is so good. I figured that it was worth to try. It turned out that I made the right decision.

I have it for a couple of months. It becomes my every day watch. It is light and stylish. I don't feel much on the wrist. I wear it in the pool, in the shower, in the pond, and in the office:)... It has no problem in the water. I did push the button a couple of times in the pool and there is no leakage at all!

So far, I love it a lot - the best watch I've ever had. Recommended!

  • loving it!
    By A1S4RSRTVJOGCR on 2006-11-05
I ordered this watch b/c I began training to run a 5k and I need the stopwatch on it to time my laps. I LOVE it! It stores up to 50 laps, which of course is more than enough! The buttons are easy to access and I also use the countdown timers to switch up my running/walking. The color is great to, kind of a blueish-lavender!

  • Great Product
    By A2Q16BANNPYBNX on 2006-11-07
The description on Amazon matched exactly what I received. I received the item in a timely manner in great condition.

  • Great Bargain
    By A29Q6CGX6CDEIO on 2006-11-07
Bought this for my wife a couple months back. Dual timer function was mandatory. Continues to work great. Has seen good usage with no complaints and nothing but good things to say.
Haven't spent any time swimming with it, but has been out in the rain.

  • Great watch
    By A34IU4CT2WP4GI on 2007-01-10
Love it! I used it to train and time my run walk ratios for a marathon. I may not have aways followed through, but it has definetly held up to it's end of the bargon.

  • Beautiful watch
    By ALYWHDOKN3VDI on 2007-10-12
After wearing drab black and navy sports watches for years, this Ironman Triathalon is a refreshing splash of color! It's light weight, simple to program, and is sized perfectly to fit a woman's wrist. I've had it for over a month now, and have worn it ever since I took it out of the box. The timers are easy to use and the cut outs allow my wrist to breath while I'm working up a sweat.

  • Pretty but Uncomfortable
    By A3I342JPIIC4RN on 2008-04-03
Although I thought this was a nice-looking for a water-resistant sport watch, and the actual timepiece worked, I found the band very uncomfortable. I ended up losing the watch after less than a year, because I took it off somewhere because it was hurting my wrist. Also, very quickly the rubberized band got dirty (I wore it camping) and I could not find any way to clean it: I tried various soaps, shampoos, rubbing alcohol: nothing worked.

  • Nice and functional!
    By AD4NF78XL3OLG on 2008-05-20
I purchased this as a gift for my 26 yr old daughter. She LOVES this watch and not only wears it while running and biking, but all the time now! She's an MBA student and several classmates bought one after seeing hers!

  • Great value-for-money
    By A3IMX38N3YEBCI on 2008-07-10
This is my second Women's Ironman. For the price, I highly recommend the product as a travel or activity watch. Features that I particularly like are the indiglo, the two time zones, the timer, multiple alarms, the fact that it's waterproof to 100 meters, and the "strap leash" that keeps the strap from flapping. I've never used the "sports" features like lap and memory. I have a relatively small wrist and the average sports watch swims on it, but this one fits great. Buttons are large, setup is intuitive. The color is more blue than purple -- a bluey periwinkle? The one negative is durability. Based on my experience, the watch itself can take a beating -- I've worn them rafting, hiking, climbing, and on a trip around the world -- but the casing doesn't fare as well. On both this and my last watch, the silver paint on the face scraped away almost immediately (revealing white plastic underneath), and I had to get this replacement when the band of my old watch separated from the face, popping one of the buttons off with it, and then the strap itself cracked where you fasten it. This happened after about (I think) two years. Because the band wraps around the watch, there's no way to replace it without replacing the whole watch. I'm trying to make sure I don't over-tighten this one in hopes that it will last longer. But for the price ... I'll be back to buy the same watch!
