• A much needed addition to my Black & Decker yard tool set

  I have a set of 18-volt Black & Decker yard tools (hedge trimmer, line trimmer, and blower) that came with a regular slow charger. By the time I get about 2/3 done with any yard work, all 3 of my batteries are empty. I work through one battery at a time and drop it on the charger as I grab the next one. But the regular charger just can't do it fast enough. So I was thrilled to find the Black and Decker fast charger. It works great! Now when my battery runs out while I'm doing yard work, I stick it on the fast charger and by the time the third one is emptied, the first one is charged again. Hooray!

  This charger is good to have if you need your battery charged fast. Doing a few hours of yard work using 2 batteries, you can recharge the batteries alot better than the one that comes with the product. The light on it let's you know when the charging is done. Am very pleased with this purchase
  
  

• Not Very Speedy on the large 18 Volt batteries.

  I have several B&D outdoor 18-volt products and the batteries wear out pretty fast. I wanted a charger that would charge one battery as I work with the others. The charge light blinks when it is charging and is steady when the battery if fully charged. The product description states "less than 90 minutes" for a complete charge.
  
  I have charged about a dozen 18V batteries with this charger. The average time from when the battery is first inserted until the blinking charge light goes steady indicating a full charge IS ABOUT 3 HOURS 15 MINUTES.
  
  Since this charger is made for 9.6 volt to 18 volt, I believe the "LESS THAN 90 MINUTES" is referring to the 9.6 volt batteries. The 18 volt batteries take more than twice that long.
  
  The stock black charger than came with the products takes about 6 hours to charge an 18 volt battery, so this charge IS faster -- about twice as fast. But the "less than 90 minutes" statement does not apply to the large 18 volt batteries -- just so you're aware.
  
  Whether it's worth $25 to charge a battery in 3 hours instead of 6, you'll have to decide. For me, I was a little disappointed that the charging takes more than twice as long as what was advertised.
  
  
  

• Beware this charger

  The problem I had with this charger is my Black and Decker 18v slide battery would not slide into this charger. This is not a bad review of the product more really it is an inconsistency with Black and Decker's battery. My battery came with a complete Black and Decker home starter kit. The drill is the charger for the kit. However, I wanted to continue to use the drill while charging a second battery. The battery had 4 posts on it and the charger only had slots for 3, so the battery wouldn't slide into the charger. No where on the product page for this charger, nor on the packaging was this discrepancy noted. I had no way of knowing that the battery would not work on this specific charger. When I called the customer support line, they didn't understand the problem and referred me to a local repair facility. Thinking there was a problem with the battery. After much discussion with the repair facility, they found me a different Black and Decker charger that would charge the battery.

  This 90 minute charger sometimes indicates that it is charging for 6+ hours on a brand new battery. Generally it works fine and does charge my batteries in about an hour but there are those few times that just sits there and just blinks away for hours saying that it is charging. Because of this, I never use it unattended. The batteries that it tried to charge for a long time got pretty hot but probably still well within the safe zone. It just made me nervous enough to only use it while I am home.

  Initial reaction to this product gives it 5 stars. Features indicating charging, fully charged, & defective battery is a great feature. Appreciate the "quick charge" of depleted battery (approx 1.5 hrs). I have been disappointed with prior designed B&D chargers. If this charger performs over an extended life it will have earned this rating.

  This product charges batteries much faster than the included chargers with B&D tools. It's not a one hour charger though...it takes roughly 90-120mins to complete the charge of a 18V battery once it's initial charge is completed.

• It works, but not fast

  I have two of these chargers, and while they both work, I'd hesitate to call them "fast". A fully discharged battery can take several hours to recharge. Compare this with other vendors' products, which can recharge in as little as 45 minutes.

  I have two 14.4 volt batteries that were working properly when my previous charger melted. Both batteries are receiving the quick blinking light (defective battery) within 5 minutes of placing in charger. I cannot believe that both batteries are defective just from changing chargers. I am not pleased with this charger as now I'm not sure if the charger damaged the batteries; or the batteries are actaully defective. Without purchasing another battery or charger, I will never know.

  I've had the 18V cordless set (drill, circular saw, reciprocating saw, flashlight, dustbuster) for about 3 years, and I've used all the tools here and there, but by far the drill and saws the most. The 2 saws drain the batteries the quickest, and the drill is not too far behind. The problem is that the charger that came with the set is lousy - it's slow, and it doesn't tell when the battery is charged.
  
  I count is as a blessing that this charger died (yes, the charger died before the batteries gave out!). I picked this one up for $20, and it's great. It charged both my batteries in less than an hour, and it'll actually TELL YOU WHEN IT'S DONE. If you don't have it, get it.

• An absolute essential!

  If you own any cordless slide-pack battery tool from Black & Decker, do yourself a huge favor and get this charger, along with at least one extra battery. This charger does everything the included or built-in B&D chargers don't: It charges quickly, it charges the full range of slide-pack batteries, and it provides feedback about the charging process.
  In practice, I've been able to charge a depleted pack in less time than it took to run a pack down (although your milage may vary), pretty much eliminating any down-time. I should have bought one years ago!

  The charger did what it was suppose to do. I charge both 14.4 and 18v batteries so I am happy. Don't rate how fast it does it because I figure while it is charging, I have time for a beer or two or three. Don't want it to charge too fast in this Houston heat.

  This charger works much better than original one. Charges faster and the led light lets you know when it's charged. Not a bad price, but it would be nice if it came with the cordless broom, trimmer, or whatever you buy, and one for each battery would be nice, too. But, overall pretty good.

  This battery charger is better than the original because it lets you know if the battery pack you are trying to charge is defective. I found that one of my battery packs was no longer working & now I know that the drill doesn't need replaced.
  
  
• Love this B & D Charger

  We have both 14v and 18v B & D drills. The charger on the 14v quit working. When I saw this charger, I liked that it can charge both of our battery sizes. Also, my husband had always left the batteries charging for far longer than was recommended. This charger does the job in 90 minutes and then puts the battery in a storage mode so that it is not over charged.
  Well worth the money even if your B & D charger is still working.

  After battery is charged-light stops flashing. Get it--you will be glad when you are in the middle of a job in the yard or with your other B&D cordless itens---and you can continue and finish the work.
