Aerolatte Milk Frother, Satin Finishx$14.99

(86 reviews)

Best Price: $19.99 $14.99

Aerolatte Milk Frothers are the world-famous, award-winning, best-selling original steam-free milk frother. Safe and easy to use, the Aerolatte milk frother eliminates the need for expensive steam-based machines. It works directly in your mug or glass using an innovative whisk-head to turn milk that has been heated in the microwave or stovetop into rich, thick foam in just 20 seconds. Use for lattes, cappuccinos, milkshakes, and hot chocolate. Includes instructions, recipes, and 2 AA batteries. 5 year guarantee.

This cute handheld milk frother is fun and easy to use; British celebrity chef Nigella Lawson recommends it over steam-driven frothers. Plus, in addition to its most popular use--creating delicate foam for homemade cappuccinos, lattes, or hot chocolates-- the Aerolatte milk frother can be used for other, equally yummy treats. An enclosed recipe sheet offers ideas for fruit "shakes" and coffee frappes that can be made with any kind of cow, goat, sheep, soy or rice milk! Some restaurant chefs even froth milk to foam garnish earthy soups.

The frother is easy to use, with a simple black toggle button to turn it on. Hold the stainless steel head just below foam level to keep froth building. The shape of the steel-toned, satin-finished handle is curved in the right places and flattened on the sides for a comfortable grip. When it's time to replace the batteries, a black ridged cover slides off to reveal the battery chamber. (It’s important to use alkaline batteries with the Aerolatte milk frother.)

To clean, turn the frother on and dip the whisk in hot soapy water; rinse well, and turn again briefly to spin dry. Wipe the handle with a damp cloth; do not immerse handle in water. The whisk is not removable from the battery handle. The milk frother measures 8-1/2 by 1-1/2 inches. Two AA alkaline batteries are included, as well as a recipe and instruction sheet. Aerolatte guarantees the Original Steam-Free frother for five years. --Garland Withers MPN: 005 -

  • This works so well, it's INSANE (see my photos)

    By A1J1QS7I60O018 on 2008-01-02
I just got the box from Amazon, pulled out my new Aerolatte, removed the protective cover from the battery compartment (yeah, it even comes pre-loaded with a pair of "aerolatte" double A's!), and put about 2 oz of NON-FAT (skim) milk in a glass.

I nuked the milk for about 20 seconds, pulled it from the microwave, stuck the aerolatte in the glass and pushed the switch.

    DANG!!

Nearly INSTANT foam. GOBS of it. It formed PEAKS!! You could make small milk-animals out of it.

I really can't believe how well this thing works. The only thing that would ruin it for me is if it simply fell apart after a few uses, but frankly, with a little bit of care, it looks like it'll hold up. We'll see.

But in the meantime, call me Doctor Foam.

    UPDATE ***9 MONTHS LATER***

Notwithstanding the complaints of people who claim that their aerolatte lasted about 5 minutes, I just replaced the batteries for the first time since buying it back in January. (Yes, it still works, but I was disappointed that I was no longer able to make foam-animals!)

Well a couple of fresh Duracells later, and I sound like a deranged dentist with this thing in my hand. The "buzz" I had become accustomed to, is now a high-pitched whizzing sound, that actually made my molars uncomfortable.

But I'm back to making some seriously decent foam again!

  • Lovely!

Performs as described, makes loads of creamy frothy milk for your coffee. (I found that frothed half-and-half gets thicker and is foamier for longer than soy milk. The joys of extra fat.) We can make tons of cappuccinos and lattes at home with our own coffee. Starbucks who?

  • it works

    By A3EG6B2AS0GOZL on 2005-02-02
This works amazingly well. We've used it for a poor-man's latte by microwaving milk, then frothing it to simulate steamed milk, then mixing it with various coffees. We've also used it to froth hot chocolate. Doesn't work that well for making whipped cream.

  • It is great

I bought 2 of this item because it is realy useful and easy to clean.

  • Dream with out Steam.

This product is one of the best that I have purchased all year. You heat your milk in the microwave for a minute, stick the aerolatte in the cup for about 20 seconds, pour in the coffee, and you are done. If you are tired of cleaning your espresso wand, than this product is for you; the wand rinses in seconds. It is easy to use and does not make a mess. If you feel that the steam from the espresso machine makes your milk taste a bit off, than this product is for you, too.

  • Great foam!
    By APSDPYICC2ARD on 2005-07-22
I've tried many different devices to create the foamy milk or ½ and ½ for cappucino. This one really works!

It took two tries to get the hang of using the device. Now I'm turning everything to foam, even OJ! It worked great on cold chocolate milk too. I have a pair of rechargeable AA batteries to use when the original batteries give out.

  • Aerolatte is great ... rates 5 plus, plus, etcetera!!
    By A3BYLTNG61R0VX on 2006-11-12
I'm pleasantly surprised at the thick, firm, yet light, foam this product produces from homemade soy milk ... all that with my very first attempt! Now, I can experiment with some light flavors. Trust me ... this is a no brainer! My only regret is that I waited so long to give this little gadget a try. I'm at the bottom of my first large cup of coffee using this little frother, and the froth/foam had such staying power that I'm having to use a spoon to get the last it from the cup. Thank you Areolatte!!

UPDATE 12/22/06: Boy oh boy, how I love Aerolatte frothers!! I now own three of these little gadgets! I recently bought 2 more from the online Aerolatte distributor. The very newest top-of-the-line model is all stainless (even the handle), has a thicker stainless stem, and comes with a large stainless stand. Then, they have the black molded plastic one that comes with it's own sturdy grey, protective, plastic container with a cap on one end (not the one with the tin case) for on the road. I just can't seem to contain myself with how happy I am with this product! I hope this review is useful to some who might have doubt.

  • Love it!
    By A2DXXCKMI7WRZ2 on 2007-01-15
I admit that I cannot live without frothed milk now. I put 3 tablespoons of 1 %, 1/4 packet of splenda and a tiny drop of almond extract, (the perfect vessle is a high ball glass :) ) whip until frothy then put in the microwave for 15 seconds, pour over coffee or hot chocolate YUMMY!

  • Works well when the batteries are new. But you can froth milk in French Press!
    By AV44SJ05JM5O7 on 2008-02-09
I have owned this for about 5 years. I use a stover top espresso maker which works about as well as electric steam type. I have found that the electric pump type that are less than $250.00 don't work that well, and take up too much counter space in a small kitchen. This does work, but I found something that froths milk much better than this and much faster.

Use a small Bodum 4 cup French Press. Put your milk in the French Press (not the same one you are making your coffee in. Get a second smaller one) and rapidly work the plunger up and down for about 10 to 20 seconds. You have frothier milk in less than half the time and you won't need to change batteries every two weeks.

  • Great Little Gadget
    By A22B00Q3RNCD8O on 2006-09-22
This really works, and we get a lot of use out of it. As other reviewers have said, it does take a little experimenting to get the hang of it, but it's well worth it. The only thing I might add is while I have finally gotten to the point where I am getting good frothy milk, I don't know if I would go as far as saying the end product is exactly like a coffee house latte or cappuccino. But it's darn close, and a hell of a lot cheaper.

  • Great foam if you have the right technique
    By A2FA7JMUNF694P on 2006-03-09
This is a great foam maker - if you have the right technique. If you don't sink the Aerolatte deep enough into the milk, you will have too rough bubbles, and too deep will just stir the milk ;) We have the feeling that the batteries don't last very long, but on the other hand we use it every day for 8 weeks...

  • Frothes Great for a Great Price
    By A1PFRCYCXHGP7J on 2007-01-10
After getting frustrated with Capresso FrothExpress, I decided to try the much less costly Aerolatte. Where I couldn't get the FrothExpress to froth the milk at all after trying everything that their tech support suggested. When this device arrived, I had a frothed cappucinno in my hands in 40 seconds. Its fast, dependable, and easy to clean. I wish there was something with this reliability and speed that also heated the milk. For now, I microwave the milk and then froth it with this.

The FrothExpress? It went back to the store.

  • Excellent frother, weak batteries!
    By A21OD4DQYTZSX1 on 2007-05-26
I love my homemade cappucinos. I use exquisite quality coffee (Peet's Italian blend), a bit of Teeccino (coffee substitute), organic half-n-half, and a Krups espresso maker. Until recently, however, I was using a manual whisk to create froth. Serious work for very little pay off. The labor was worth it, since my homemade brew tastes superior to what you can get at most coffee houses. And my daily cup costs a fraction of the cost! I purchased this frother after reading many Amazon reviews and I love it! It makes excellent foam (esp. with half-n-half), and now I have reached cappucino nirvana. As other posters have said, though, the accompanying Aerolatte batteries SUCK. I gave the product a 4-star rating because of this inferior addition to this otherwise excellent product. I use rechargeable ni-mh and they work great. Enjoy perfect coffee every day.

  • Oh honey! Where did all the foam come from?
    By A6VPK7X53QNAQ on 2008-02-22
I read about this little gadget on Amazon, everyone was raving how good it was but still I wondered whether I really needed it.

I was already a proud owner of the Bialetti Moka Express, 6 Cup and with my Lavazza Italian Coffee, Caffe Espresso, 100% Premium Arabica Ground Coffee, 8-Ounce Cans (Pack of 4) I was making a wonderful espresso. My mornings were almost perfect, but something was missing...and the coffee lover in me kept me going back again and again to Starbuck's door. "Triple shot espresso, medium-dry" I would say each day, and think about how coffee could cost the same as lunch! So I gave in and bought the Aerolatte Frother and what a great move that was...

The Aerolatte can produce copious foam from just a little bit of milk. I take just a little low fat milk in my cup (1/8th cup), nuke it for half a minute with some Splenda and then froth it for about 15 seconds with the Aerolatte frother. Voila! the whole cup fills up with foam. Stiff and dense foam. Foam that forms peaks and valleys. Then, in the already warm cup filled with dense foam I pour in the espresso from my Bialetti Moka Express. A perfect little Latte. Take a look at the photos I posted and you'll see the reason for my new-found happiness! I've been using it for a couple of months now and each time I'm amazed.

And what about Starbucks? I still go there once in a while to "just chill" but it's not on my morning route any more. In fact, my friends have started dropping in for coffee at my place!

  • Handy little gadget
    By A1C00CGNPCEH2T on 2006-11-10
I am delighted with my Aerolatte frother. It creates large amounts of foam in microwaved milk without leaving the hard-to-clean mess of a steam frother. Right after using it, I simply run the metal parts under the tap, shake off the excess water, and put the frother away. This inexpensive little device is perfect for a quick hot milk drink.

  • Makes great Lattes!
    By A2HM62XPMVXEWP on 2006-11-24
I bought this item one year as a christmas gift for my husband and we have been enjoying great lattes ever since. We have used it almost every weekend for the past two years. It is fast, easy to use and easy to clean.

  • Effective, inexpensive, small, easy to clean, quiet
    By A27UE9HJRZ22YI on 2006-12-19
Great price, froths milk in less than one minute, easy to clean (I just put a little soap and water in a coffee cup and put it in the sink, then run the Aerolatte inside it for a minute, then rinse). Does not take up much space in the kitchen drawer. What's not to like?

  • I use it for everything.
    By ARLGF00MKWKAI on 2007-02-07
This is indispensable. Not only does it make incredibly frothy milk, but I've used it for about 3 years for quickly mixing anything, as long as it's not too thick. Light-bodied shakes, vinaigrettes, hot chocolate, fiber supplements, green drinks, lightly whipped cream, etc. You can't use it for stiff whipped cream or meringues, but for anything lighter, it's so much easier than getting out (and cleaning) the big equipment. It's great for quickly mixing anything with water or liquid that would normally clump and take forever to emulsify or dissolve. To clean, just spin it under running water or, if necessary, in a cup of soapy water. Then spin it dry in about a second. I keep it in a drawer next to the sink and use it several times a day. I like it so much I gave 10 of them as gifts last Christmas.

  • Works great and a must for lattes
    By AG958BJZ56V44 on 2007-02-10
I got the exact same thing for 1.99 at ikea. It works great and absolutely love it.

  • Nice but a bit underpowered IMHO...
    By A3IQF4MHR7LUUM on 2007-03-06
Nice little frother, mixer, whatever you use it for. Quality seems to be good. Weighs 102g with batteries. 8.25" overall length. The shaft terminates in a circular, quarter-sized loop wrapped with whisk-like coils. When inserted in liquid the Aerolatte slows dramatically and gradually generates full speed. Guess this is due to the drag of all the coil loops. I believe that the motor is underpowered and needs more torque for the agitator it is asked to spin. That is the reason for only 4 stars.

  • I LOVE my new Aerolatte milk frother!
    By A1B39ZQ9NUK5S7 on 2007-07-24
I received this product in the mail recently and have used it several times already. I have made cappucinos for my family by heating the milk and then frothing it before adding coffee. However, I have found that, conveniently, it works best when I add my usual amount of cold milk to the bottom of my coffee cup and then froth for about 20 seconds. A nice thick, creamy foam forms at the top. Very nice! I love this product!

  • The Best
    By A3MGLZ5X7SO64G on 2007-09-01
I love a Latte in the AM. I have used the steamer on my expresso mahine, a plunger type frother, even a stand alone steamer frother. This little device gives me the best, quickest foam. It is cheep too! Downside? is you need hot milk for you Latte, so I microwave my milk while I am expressing the coffee. After 45 sec in the microwave, I froth for 20 sec and voila.

  • I like it!
    By A4INSP6PHO5L4 on 2007-01-13
I have used this over and over. My kids like to use it for chocolate milk and cocoa, but i used to froth milk for coffee. I have found that 2% percent milk works the best for me.

  • Excellent and much improved
    By A31E13XZ2G6ZDF on 2007-03-11
The older versions of the Aerolatte tended to wobble. The new version is much sturdier and works great.

  • Doesn't work after repeated uses!
    By A155FFJZZ2TK2L on 2007-03-16
I originally loved this item! I thought that our days of Starbucks were over! It really worked well the first couple of times that we used it. However, after about 10 uses, it did not froth the milk any more. I was very disappointed!! There was not any reason as to why it stopped 'frothing'. It was not damaged in any way. I returned it. I would not recommend it at all.

  • IKEA for much less
    By APNWNUW7LT2DT on 2007-04-01
Decent, if not perfect, frother. Batteries die moderately quickly. Ummm... like previous post, this thing is $1.99 (or maybe $3.99) at IKEA.

  • Fantastic Frother!!
    By A3JIVXRMIJH4H4 on 2007-04-22
Have tried other milk frothers; we like our coffee with hot skim poured into it a la Starbucks. This frother is the best we've ever had, and we're ordering another one for our other kitchen! It whips nonfat milk into a really thick froth, I am sure it will do the same for soy milk which my kids love. We are excited to have it and have it work so well! Our other one purchased from Bodun gave out and just never had the "ooomph" this one has. Great value, easy to use/clean. Makes super whippy stuff!

  • Great Frother!
    By AOWT21CP1VAJE on 2007-05-12
I'm no expert, but this device works quite well. You do need to "play with it" just a bit to learn how to maximize your froth, but I find it works great. I have a lower end espresso machine, and I've switched to using the frother since I can heat my milk in parallel making my espresso and then quickly create my frothed milk (by not having to wait for my espresso machine to heat up for steam). If you are new to frothing, keep in mind that you do need a somewhat larger container to froth in since the froth works it way towards the top of the pitcher.

I've had this for a few months now and it has worked great.

  • This frother was a big disappointment
    By A3LI3YSQTAB5FU on 2007-12-07
I am not a coffee drinker but I bought this item as a gift for a friend who loves her latte. She was very excited to try it out but very disappointed with the result. The frother is now destined to spend the remainder of its life in the back of the kitchen gadget drawer.
The item's packaging states "The Original Steam-Free Milk Frother" and it mentions it is perfect for a cappuccino, milkshake, etc. Unless you are making your milkshake in a shot glass, this item will not do it .... the whip is too small. While this item is a steam-free frother, I now see why steam is used ...... for the taste! If you want to make a beverage so you can take a picture of it ...... buy this. If you want to make a beverage so it tastes similar to what you would buy at a coffee shop ..... steam it and don't use this frother. Buying this to make a latte or cappuccino makes as much sense as taking a cup of water, swirling in some white paint, and expecting the end result to taste like milk. It may look like the real thing but it sure will not taste like it.

  • FUN!
    By A4GHL04RZPRDR on 2007-01-12
This little gizmo is a hoot! Whips up a great steamy froth in seconds. Make's great gift and kid's love it.
