  • Sweet bargain, great performance

    By A97R2RMCBRVTY on 2006-07-14
I got this HDMI cable for under $10 just to see whether it will work as well as the expensive ones and it was well worth the risk. I tested it with my upconverting LG DVD player on 1080i resolution on my 42" 1080p Westinghouse LCD TV and it works just like any other HDMI cable, including those loud names who charge you ten-fold for "golden plated extra special micro gravity nanotechnology space age wireless high conductivity low noise extra gauge supercalafragilisticexpialidocious" cables with no difference in performance. By buying this cable I avoided the huge "naive citizen tax" included in these products. Considering its price, this is an amazingly good cable.

  • Works for me and I'm a moron.

This cable has received a lot of attention on Amazon, so I thought I'd throw in my two cents. I'll write the most simple review I can:

Me buy this cable. Me plug this cable between Sony PS3 and Philips 42" LCD TV. Sony PS3 say "HDMI Detected". TV say picture from source is "HDMI 1080p". Me point to Monster cables and laugh.

I will now go back to banging coconuts together. Thank you.

  • Price performer!

    By A2MXSBNJ84NOJG on 2006-04-01
HDMI is a digital signal. That means it's all or nothing--not like analog where you may have degradation due to signal loss, crosstalk, radio frequency interference, etc. As long as you have a decent HDMI cable to transmit the digital bitstream from point A to point B, you're set. I just purchased the new Sony Bravia S-series 32 inch LCD TV. To go with it, I trashed my old Apex with the missing remote and got a deal on a Sony DVP-NS70H upconverting DVD player that can synthesize "extra" lines of resolution. The player can send 720p or 1080i signal to the TV. (Current DVDs are 480p; that standard will change eventually with Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.) I knew that the upconversion feature only works through a digital connection, so I'd need to get an HDMI cable. Started checking prices and, no surprise, they were all over the place. Some were in the $100 range. Despite mild skepticism, I decided to try the cheapest one. This little beauty arrived in 3 days in a plain brown wrapper and a clear plastic bag. The cable is surprisingly robust, with nice build quality, supple insulation, and good connectors. I started to feel vindicated. So I plugged it in, put Harry Potter in the DVD player and WOW!! The DVD player and TV did their magic. Spellbindingly great picture and sound. I haven't tried a component analog connection--those cables are REALLY expensive and quality matters more there--so I can't compare component versus HDMI. Bottom line: this is an unbeatable price performer for around $10 incuding shipping. And no, this is not an April Fools joke.

  • great price...save $$$ buy this cable

    By A1CYTBE7LLUQ8F on 2007-06-07
Living in Europe, I had to bite the bullet and buy an overpriced (approx $50) HDMI cable from the store that sold me my TV. I ordered this HDMI cable from Amazon and picked it up on a recent trip back to the US. As far as I can tell there is absolutely no difference in performance with this cable compared to the overpriced one on my other component. The spotlight reviews do an excellent job of explaining why this HDMI cable works just as well as the overpriced alternatives.

  • This is not compatable for 1080p

    By A274XIW1BP3IHU on 2007-03-10
I ordered this to hook up my 1080p TV to a PS3 and the best resolution I could get was 1080i. I contacted JVC and Sony and after both trying to blame each other at first, I was finally advised it was the HDMI cable I was using because it was a generic cable. I then talked with a 3rd party, my local Gamestop, who advised that the cable was indeed the problem. The GS rep. also advised that there brand of the HDMI cable will not pick up 1080p either and that several people have had the same complaint with the PS3 and TV not picking up 1080p resolution. In every case scenerio he advised they ordered the Sony brand HDMI cable and the problem was solved. Most people do not have 1080p TV's yet so if you do not, this cable will work fine. I gave this 1 star since I do have a 1080p tv and it does not work correctly for my needs.

***UPDATE*** I ordered the Sony HDMI cable made for the PS3 and I can now get 1080p resolution with it. So if you want to view 1080p DO NOT buy this item, get a Sony cable.

  • Why pay out the wazoo when you can get this cable?!?!
    By A35WPBXSCK1OM5 on 2007-06-18
OK - here's the story. I was going to buy a Toshiba HDTV. I had picked it out already and was ready to purchase it and that was when I found a promotion at a local retailer that if I bought a Toshiba HDTV then I can get $200 off of any of the Toshiba HD DVD players. The HDA2 was normally $399 but was on sale for $299 and with the $200 off I got it for $99!! You can't beat that!

Well, I got that on Tuesday and it was an unexpected purchase. I asked the person at the store how much the HDMI cable would be so that I can hook it up as soon as I get home. He said, it's a Monster Cable and it costs $124.99! Whoa! I went up to the shelf and saw the sticker that said $124.99 on it and on the sticker it said "Financing Available"! What?! I'm not going to pay more for the cable than I did for the DVD player! These guys are crazy!

I told the guy "You are nuts if you think I'm going to pay that amount" and I logged onto Amazon and purchased this HDMI cable I'm doing the review for. I paid, with shipping, less than $9 for it. I was a little worried about it though - I'm sure that there must be a difference between the $124.99 cable and the $9 cable. So, I took the test. I went and purchased the $124.99 cable (mostly because I was too anxious to try out the new HD DVD player and couldn't wait for it to arrive). I plugged it in and of course the HD DVD I played looked absolutely amazing! The very next day I got the $9 cable (pretty fast shipping by these guys by the way) and I hooked it up. I was worried what I would find but when I started watching the same HD DVD that I watched the night before on the $124.99 cable I could notice NO DIFFERNCE WHATSOEVER between the two cables' results. So I returned the $124.99 cable.

You will not be sorry if you purchase this cable over the other ones in the major retailers. Don't let them tell you "it's a better quality cable" or anything like that. This cable is built very well - you can just tell when you hold it in your hand that it was made well. You don't get the fancy plastic packaging that you have to tear into with a knife and cut your fingers on though (oh what a bummer!). Get this cable. It's great!

The only thing you will want to research is that I have seen in some literature that there are two different kinds of cables. I think there is a special one for 1080p DVD players (dont' quote me on this). So do your research before purchasing just to make sure that this is the correct "type". As far as build quality - picture quality, for use with an upconverting DVD player as well as the Toshiba HDA2 HD DVD player, it's an absolute steal.

  • DO NOT GET THIS HDMI CABLE
    By A33TJKF8E3MD26 on 2007-04-17
After reading the all the positive reviews I decided to order the $3 HDMI cable (with $6 shipping that according to the post office only cost $2.50 some cents!!!). This was a mistake and a rip off.

I plugged the cable in and the first thing I noticed immediately was that it now took my TV about 3-4 seconds to tune to any HD channels. This was very annoying, it didn't do that before. Using their cheap cable I'd be staring at a black screen for 3 seconds then the picture would finally show up.

2nd thing I noticed was that the picture on the screen bounced around slightly. I especially noticed it when there was text on the screen. It made me dizzy.

I double checked to make sure the cable was in all the way and both problems still existed.

So I swapped the cable with a $50 HDMI cable that I already had and it fixed both problems immediately. My only conclusion, the cheap cable was to blame.

This is just another one of those online rip off artists who sell a product really cheap with a "Full Money Back Warranty on all orders" then jack up the shipping & handling price so if someone dares to complain and return the item they don't have to refund their shipping charges, only the $3 for the item.

"Full Money Back Warranty on all orders."...yea right, it'd cost me $3 to ship it back to them.

I know, I know. It's my fault for buying an item that seemed too good to be true....and guess what, it was.

    My recommendation:
Spend a little more money for a better cable and be happy. You don't necessarily need a $100 HDMI cable, but there are other better quality alternatives than this $3 cable for less than $25.

    Be warned.

    EDIT:
They refunded all of my money including shipping after I left this review. They contacted me, I didn't even contact them. Maybe I was just unlucky and got a bad cable, or maybe they were hoping I'd take my bad review down....who knows??

  • You get what you pay for..........
    By A2QBVMPF53HXYD on 2007-12-15
Purchased this cable and used it on a brand new 720p Panasonic, 32 inch set with a 120hz refresh rate. My Verizon FIOS rep left an HDMI cable as well during install, so I compared the two. The Verizon cable performed flawlessly. Great picture, sound, and no problems. The inexpensive cable was subject to breakup, picture clarity was diminished, and the sound was not on par with the Verizon cable. Mind you, we are not talking about a Monster HDMI cable here, but the difference was striking.

I also tried this cable on my older Hitachi 51 inch set. Compared to high end component cable (which is what I have been using), the HDMI underperformed as well. The component cable was clearly superior.

If you want an inexpensive cable that will carry a signal, go for it. If you want a clear, jump off the screen picture, keep shopping.

  • Why pay more?
    By A1CPRP3VFJRS1R on 2007-09-04
HDMI is the standard cable you would use to hookup your high definition cable box, satellite TV, and other HD sources to your television.

Circuit City charges between $40.00 and $100.00 for this same cable. Since digital is digital and this one costs $1.00, there's no reason to pay more.

  • Just like every other HDMI cable, but cheaper.
    By A1VPIMN9U4K90A on 2007-07-18
Since HDMI cables carry a digital signal, it is nearly impossible to build one that works better or worse than any other.

This was the cheapest one I could find, so I bought it. Its performance is absolutely identical to the $50 one I got from Radio Shack (and which I promptly returned once this one arrived in the mail.) I am 100% positive that its performance would be identical to the $100 HDMI cables peddled at home theatre stores.

Thinking that a more expensive HDMI cable will give you a better picture is like thinking a more expensive network cable will give you better email.

  • Not the most current HDMI technology
    By AG7E2P1YPYRR3 on 2008-06-29
This cable does not seem to be HDMI version 1.3 so be careful if you are using with blu-ray or PS3 as it will not give you 48-bit color.

This is a good price , but you absolutely should make sure you buy a HDMI Version 1.3 cable. For those that are interested to learn the truth, go to the source, the HDMI website, and you will learn that Version 1.3 is the most current version of HDMI and it has very significant advantages over its predecessors.

You won't see a different in the quality of your iPod music when you use a gold plated gas injected USB cable to transfer the songs from your computer to your iPod! its a digital signal. Why should the HDMI be any different? Stick with this, clear and simple, if you want to read on, be my guest:

I purchased an HDTV 1080p TV with true color support about 2 weeks ago and a PS3 about 3 weeks ago. I had my PS3 hooked up with a $130 monster cable because the guy at the store convinced me it would make a difference in my picture.

While surfing the web, reading video and audiophile reviewers comment about HDTV related stuff, long story short I came across the cable debate and thought I'd test it out myself. I hooked up the PS3 with the monster cable, played clips of Black Hawk Down in Blu Ray, then hooked it up with this cheap cable. No difference at all. I guarantee you I am so picky with the picture and sound aspect of home theatre (well isn't that the point of home theater!) and would not subsidize quality to save a few bucks.

The picture is exactly the same as the monster cables picture. For those who complain about durability:

First off, the cables more durable then the monster cable. The monster cable was so thick it began to angle itself on the HDMI connection port. All that unnecessary crap was weighing it down and bending the connector port. Secondly, you don't say hey check out my super durable ultra quality HDMI cable that does the same thing as a $5 cable, you do that with cars and clothes, not cables. Therefore the performance is what should count not the brand name. Thirdly, digital signals have no loss, no matter how bad the cable is. This cables quality isn't bad, its actually very good, but assuming it was so bad that it was crap, the picture simply would not go through instead of going through poorly.

Injecting gas and having 10 coats of plastic around the cable won't increase the bandwidth of it, either. Only the HDMI version certification can do that. An HDMI 1.1 monster cable has the same bandiwdth as a $10 HDMI 1.1 cable because its meant to support the expected bandwidth requirements of an HDMI 1.1 unit/tv/ps3, etc. The same goes with HDMI 1.2, 1.3, etc.

  • 1/10th the price - 100% the performance.

Shopping around for an HDMI cable and seeing the $80, $90, and $100 price tags out there, of course I was skeptical about a $5 product. Then again, it's only $5 dollars, so the risk isn't that much. Turns out the risk was well worth it. Cable works wonderfully. Very sharp, clean picture. Audio through the cable is excellent. It's nice to replace the YPbPr-video+L/R-audio (5 cables) with one HDMI cable that does it all and does it better. Another positive note on the product, it was shipped extremely quickly.

  • Has audio problem
    By AU45S68F0LSHA on 2007-07-09
I couldn't see the difference in the picture quality, but there was a big problem for the sound. i have Yamaha RX-V2600 receiver and Toshiba HD DVD player.
So, when i connected this cable from DVD player to the receiver, i just got 2.0 channel PCM signal no matter what i play (DTS/DTS ES, Dolby Digital/Dolby Digital EX, Dolby TrueHD). On the other hand, when i switch to monster cable, i had no problem; the receiiver was getting the same imput when playing DTS/ES, DD/EX, and MPCM (5.1 channel PCM) when playing Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus.

    By A3ROVE7SYZOF1I on 2005-03-27
The cable is not that good, I have experienced some digital dropouts not as good as my other brand HDMI cable.

  • Works great
    By ATONM1IKQ5WBF on 2007-03-19
It's a cable. I plugged it in. I got really pretty pictures on my 50" at 1080i. Why does it cost so much less? I think the real question is "Why do the other brands cost so much more?"

  • It's cheap for a reason, people!!!!
    By A2U00MW8SAX2N on 2007-09-20
I am going to be as honest and straight-forward as I can. I would LOVE to tell you that this cable is perfect, and as reliable as the expensive ones... but the old saying is true: You get what you pay for.

This cable worked fine (not amazingly, just fine) for 4 days. It was not noticeably better than component - I switched back and forth and could not tell a difference in picture or audio.

However, after 4 days, the audio started to cut out every few seconds. It became unwatchable. Component worked fine, so it was clearly the HDMI cable.

SUMMARY: The cable was AS GOOD AS component (NEVER better) for 4 days, then stopped working properly.

    Beware.

  • Garbage! Stay Away!
    By A3K8ELMGNF89H2 on 2007-05-23
I bought 2 of these. One I connected from my cable box to my Samsung 46" LCD and the other from my Sony up-converting DVD player to my Samsung. The picture from the cable box immediately lost picture quality, the image color faded slightly and was nowhere near as vibrant as with regular component cable. The DVD playback was fuzzy even on 1080i. Will buy the more expensive ones.

  • Does NOT Work! DEFINITELY NOT FOR 1080p
    By A3JW3MXF0HWZL6 on 2007-10-01
Sorry to put a downer on all these good reviews, but I ordered 4 of these HDMI cables, 1 didn't work at all, and the other 3 showed video on the TV, but the sound was all messed up. I have an LG 1080p TV connected to a HD-DVR and also a Playstation 3. At first I thought it was the TV since I had just bought it, but then I went to the store and got a proper HDMI cable and it worked like a charm. I know a lot of you guys are probably thinking, since it's a digital cable, it either all works, or nothing works at all (common misconception among digital cables). But you have to take into consideration bandwidth. These cables probably have a low bandwidth (the amount of data that can be streamed per second), somewhere around 2GB per second. Blu-ray, HD-DVD, and other 1080i/p sources require higher bandwidth; somewhere around 5Gbps. You can go to Sam's Club and pick up a decent HDMI cable for under $30, or even get one off Ebay. If you've invested a couple thousand for a new TV, HD box, and Blu-ray, it's worth it to throw in the extra $50 for a good cable so that you can experience HD in it's fullest.

  • Cheapo cable doesn't work!
    By A2DWM62373POV3 on 2007-12-18
I own a Sony Bravia KDL-46V2500 (46 inch LCD) which is full HD (1080p) and my Sony VAIO VGN-FZ180E/B 15.4" Notebook has a Blu-Ray drive. I researched quite a bit online (incl. cnet and amazon customer reviews) and kinda concluded that this was a good product to buy at the low price advertised. When I hooked up the HDMI output from my laptop to the HDTV all I got was a blank screen. I purchased a Monster HDMI cable subsequently, which was super-expensive compared to this product, but it performed flawlessly and now I am happily watching Blu-Ray movies on my HDTV. If you wanna take a chance and say,"Hey, I can't go wrong at this price" you are probably right - but then you may end up like me (needing a higher quality purchase later on)

  • There must be a difference!
    By A1M3TN8RR94760 on 2007-12-26
Unfortunately these cables did not work Christmas morning on our new PS3. Our TV said no HDMI signal detected. We had to wait until the 26th to go out a buy a much more expensive HDMI cable (I decided to go ahead and get Sony's)and it worked immediately. I know there isn't supposed to be a difference - but I probably will not risk it again - esp for Christmas morning. I was very disappointed.(the seller as offered to replace - so we'll see if these work).

Jan 1, 2008 - the seller did replace these cables and the new cables worked on the first try just as well as my more expensive cable. But I would be cautious buying these again because judging from the reviews, the quality of these cables are not consistent.

  • Fantastic Cables
    By A1EN4XAKX9LK4A on 2008-07-28
This cable sucessfully connects my Playstation 3 to my television. It has failed to snap and hit me in the eye, nor has it burned my home to the ground. The data must transfer quickly or my hand-eye coordination has become spectacular. I believe they have no intention of strangling anyone in my family.

  • Best HDMI Cable
    By on 2004-07-12
I have tried quite a few cables over the past months with my HD setup, and this is by far the best cable I have used. The quality of the picture is amazing with HDMI, but you need a cable of this quality to make it worth it!!

  • WOW! Don't pay $95.99 at Best Buy - this is the cable you need!
    By A3H6LBQJL8GMMM on 2007-01-14
I have a 56" Toshiba HDTV, and recently got HD digital cable. I used Component video cables in the past, and relized I now had HDMI connection. My first stop was Best Buy, and found their 2-3 brands of cables, all running over $80!!! For a CABLE!? So I checked on Amazon, and found this one sold by Abacus24-7 for $6. I figured I would get what I paid for, and nothing too great, but it was worth a try before blowing $100 at the store. Got my cable in 3 days, hooked it up and WOW!! Color and clarity of picture is awesome, and the sound was fine (just as good as before) I can not imagine the picture being any better by buying a Monster cable or anything else for 15 times the price. I HAD to write a review because this is a great deal, and I realized those other high price cables with the fancy name and packaging are probably not worth the money. Great deal. great product, fast delivery and hassle free buying. Thank you.

  • Not for sony 1080p tvs
    By A2X4UAUKJWO26O on 2007-12-09
Please do not buy this cable if you own a high def sony tv because all you will get is a blank screen. Very poor cable for high def needs.

  • Price Crusher
    By A3BJCGK49AAR0Q on 2006-07-27
Its a cable c-a-b-l-e. It is a conduit for electical signals no more no less. This particular one works great we noticed an improvement in the picture between our SAT receiver and DLP from the component cables we had been using. I can not offer an A & B to a name brand but from the picture I see the footballs would have to be actually flyig out of my screen to make the name brand price difference worth it.

  • The reviews tell the story
    By AU4ZDB7EVHTNL on 2007-02-11
The cable met my expectations. The picture looks flawless and the sound was fine too.

  • PS3 Owners Read This!
    By A2LDVJX3UER809 on 2007-06-25
This cable IS compatible just fine with the PS3 and it is capable of 1080P.

I just watched X3 in 1080P over this cable and it looks out of this world. I current have a LNT4665 Samsung.

So to put your fears at rest this cable DOES work fine with PS3 and 1080P.

  • Best HDMI cable value around!!!
    By A935P1RD65R1R on 2007-06-28
This is the first review that I've written here. I've spent thousands on products from this site on all kinds of things. This is the best value that I've come across.
At first I was leary about buying it because if it's to good to be true than it usually is ... right? Not in this case. You get exactly as advertised. The cable even comes with caps for the plugs so that you don't get dust in them and transfer it to your componant.
I won't say how, but I do know for a fact that Monster Cables are a rip off for basic home use. They are a high quality product for professional usage. Think of it like dropping a big block V8 engine in Toyota Prius. You know that you'll never use more than an 1/8 of the engines capacity. When I visit my local electronics store and see the average Joe grabbing the $100-$200 Monster Cables and put them in his cart along side the Panasonic All-In-One Theatre Sound System I shake my head and try to tell them the technicalities of the mistake their about to make.
Which is bacically this- You need to transport an ALL DIGITAL information thread from one place to another. It will get there or won't. You won't get a "weak" signal or "strong" signal. This isn't the 80's. The concepts don't even apply here.
Buy the cable plug it in. If you get the sound or picture than it's working. Plain and simple. If you have distortion or bad peaks than it's something else.
