great price, and the cables work perfectly By A1XXT99C9HO8CD on 2005-08-10
I have a Sony STR-K760P receiver with 6.1 channel surround. I'm feeding my DVD in through digital coax, but my DirecTV and XBox both supply Dolby Digital 5.1 via optical output only. While these cables seem a bit delicate (I certainly wouldn't want to step on them, and I was careful not to bend them around sharp corners during setup) they work perfectly! Digital is all-or-nothing, either you get the full signal or you don't. There's no need to buy $20 - $50 digital optical cables from Monster or any other manufacturer, these will work great. My XBox sounds amazing when playing DD 5.1 games.
MONSTER SCAM GOING ON OUT THERE By A1WUDN4ZCG69ZS on 2008-07-27
OK, you have been shopping for cables to finish off your new home theater system and time after time a salesperson tells you about MONSTER cables. Well, when it comes to HDMI or Red/Blue/Green component cables, getting something nice with gold fittings is the way to go but spending big bucks to buy the MONSTER brand name is way over rated. Search our some similar but way cheaper cables on Amazon.com. Now regarding these optical cables. Brand means nothing. Transferring a light signal is transferring a light signal. A gold fitting means squat. As long as the optical cable you buy delivers the light signal from a cable box to your TV or audio system, you good to go. Example, I purchased a MONSTER Cable on sale for $38 bucks before I saw this cable on Amazon.com. Glad Circuit City has a 30 return policy with receipt because I sure used it. Once my less then less than a buck optical cable arrived and I saw that it delivered a light signal just like the MONSTER cable with the MONSTER price did, I returned that overpriced cable faster than you can say jack rabbit. When installing your optical cable, look close at the shape of the fitting and the shape of the whole it goes in. Kinda trick to make sure you are placing it in correctly and push it in snug. Do not jam it in without lining up which side is up. Also, do not crimp the cable. You are dealing with fiber optics here so keep the cord from bending at a sharp able to keep your light passageway from getting blocked. ENJOY AND SAVE BIG BUCKS.
Why pay a ton of money for a Monster cable? By A2VQ3SSILWO5PZ on 2007-02-15
I wanted to connect my XBox to my surround sound system, so i did a search for "XBox optical" and the Xbox 100X Fiber Optic Cable by Monster Cable came up. I'm a total noob about audio, so i checked with a friend to see if the XBox needed a particular style of optical cable or if any would do. He suggested that any would do, so i found this 3' cable for about one tenth of the price of the monster cable. I'll cut the long story short: it worked perfectly. For me, it's not worth paying 10 times the price to get a similar product with a fancy name on it.
3" Optical Cable By A3IXGZU5O56AA1 on 2007-05-25
Excellent price, got order within 2 days and product works perfect. Can't Complain, shipping is high but still cheaper then purchasing from retail store.
Optical Digital Audio Cables-3 foot By A2TNW6NF868QAN on 2007-08-13
These cables were so much cheaper than the ones that you would purchase at Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc., that I was a little suspicious about their quality, and whether or not they would actually work. When I received them and hooked them up, though, I was very pleased. Delivery time was also good.
- Invest in a better cable
     By A3CITCUH3RG5V on 2007-12-22
This cable is of very poor quality. I believe there is something wrong with the fibre, as it cuts out frequently. I tried it with several sources, all produced the same result. Great, digital sound, but then it stops approximately every 20 seconds. I would definitely not recommend this cord.
- It works :)
     By AZPOFLFAWXON on 2007-12-23
It gets the signal from one end to another (in my case dvd player to receiver) and that's all you really need in digital world. The rest is on your components.
This one is cheap and works exactly the same as any other optical cable would (not better, not worse - EXACTLY the same)...so, why would you pay more?
- Since July 19 2007 and still going strong
     By AGKH2JMK2YIN0 on 2007-12-30
Installed this item July 19 2007 and had no issues. I have it connected from my Blu Ray player to ONKYO sound system. Although the quality may not be as good as others mentioned it seems very acceptable to me - btw, I rarely touch the cable. This was a low risk investment that worked for me. Now I enjoy the sound.
- Fiber is Fiber
     By A1NGZPJCA6MOFL on 2008-03-07
I picked up two of these cables for my new Home Theater setup and as expected, I am very pleased. The sound quality through my Sony HTIB is incredible. As long as you are careful with the cable (i.e. No sharp bends) you should not have any issues. We actually use the same thickness of Optical cable in our Telecommunications equipment at my work and it is as reliable as you could imagine.
No reason for a thicker or more expensive cable. This does the job perfectly!!!
- My first Fiber optic sounds!
     By A2JT8V3F64X3C0 on 2008-04-25
I can't say enough about how pleased I am with this product.
I have been using standard analog hookups for my HD dvd player's Dolby Digital and DTS sound until I received this item. The cable is just like the seller describes on this Amazon page...3 foot fiber optic sound cable.
And well, I plugged it into my HD DVD player and into my DTS Receiver--the set up was instant. ONE CABLE for all 7 channels and when I plugged the first end into the HD player, the other end of the cable LIT UP with a little red light so it was easy to see where to hook up the other end in the receiver. The optical sound is its own flashlight basically--and as soon as both ends were plugged in, instantly, I had to turn the sound from my original settings at 10 decibels to 3 decibels, because the optic sound was blasting out my speakers. The cable itself is 3 feet long and about 1/2 inch thick, and it comes with the optical tips covered by a sturdy plastic cup guarding the tips till you can hook them up. The cable itself is strong enough to withstand long-term use unless you have children pulling out your cables constantly. But from what I have seen, I feel it will maintain for years to come.
Seriously, it is TRULY an AUDIBLE MIRACLE from standard connections. For a mere $4 dollars(shipping included, it was the best money I ever spent! I have never heard such GREAT sound before!!!I highly recommend this! In fact, I love it so much I sat right down and wrote this review not one minute after hooking it up!!!
- Great Cable
     By A2U771QT9XAI5J on 2006-11-10
This cable works great and is fraction of the cost of the others. Do not waste your time and money on the name brand rip off's.
- Excellent value
     By A3QSYD9EOX6BTP on 2007-01-07
Woorks just as well as much more expensive cables. Save the money and pick these up instead.
- High quality - low price
     By A37CDON8E7QXH0 on 2007-01-30
Compare this cable to a $20 dollar cable (same length) sold in a fancy box with a equally fancy brand name, then ask yourself if you notice any difference.
It will cost you $24 total to compare, then you'll start ordering all of your audio cables from parts express and you'll save a ton of $$ in the future.
- Works well for half the price of other cables
     By A1X95HSAH44TOQ on 2007-02-07
I bought this cable to use with the Creative Labs USB SoundBlaster Live! 24-Bit External Sound Card and Logitech Z-5450 Digital 5.1 Speaker System. Work great and I have no complaints.
As others mentioned, the cost of shipping is high for such an inexpensive item.
- They work
     By ANJEBGHPRZ6RO on 2007-03-23
Not much you can say. They came quickly, they where inexpensive, even with the high shipping cost, and most importantly they work.
- Worked fine.
     By AD28CSPJ4VMAC on 2007-12-13
Couldn't tell the difference between this and a monster optical cable.... Digital is Digital.. The only thing is that the monster cable looks and feels more solid so it won't get damaged as easily. This cable is very thin, and I could see it getting damaged very easily.
- Works
     By A1027SH9Y6Q01Q on 2008-01-03
Cable seems like it's sturdy enough and it works on both my fiber TV set-top box and my DVD player. I even am running into a fiber optic switch box that takes two inputs and switches them between one output to the receiver and they all work just fine. I have not experienced any problems with them other than they don't fit as snugly as other cables I've used in the past... but they still work.
- Great
     By AX6V4MIP6L0IJ on 2008-02-03
This product is really thin but it does what its supposed to do. I have a thicker cable one and I tried switching it out and there was no difference in sound quality.
- feels like a pc of &%^#, works fine!
     By A3811QEYJOCC1A on 2008-02-14
What can i say, it works just fine. it feels cheap like it will break easily but this is not the case. defintely a better buy than the more expensive units. its digital so either it works or it doesnt, no halfway mark.
take care!
- Poor Quality
     By A16A8I7VYVFKZS on 2008-02-19
These cables were so flimsy that I am surprised they worked at all. I ordered the two cables based on the reviews and bargain price. Only one of the cables worked, but not very well. The other cable didn't work at all. Spend the extra $5 and upgrade to better cables.
- Works great!
     By A36YHJUOLVUP28 on 2008-02-23
Used three of these, through an optical splitter/joiner, to combine two outputs into the single input of my home theater amplifier. Works wonderfully. Perfect for the job!
- Excellent price, excellent pefformance, debatable quality
     By A1DEH0CBWXLWH4 on 2008-03-04
While the product works as described - one end did not fit as snug as I would have liked into the back of my CD player. It is possible that this is a issue with my CD player vs. the cable, but regardless, it is certainly worth the price! And certainly nothing a piece of tape couldn't solve. :)
- Optical cable
     By A3GK8JFJDCAK51 on 2008-07-05
Ended up being too short and required repositing of my music system. Great price and comparable sound quality to brand-name cables for a fraction of the price.
- Why pay $18.00 at Radio Shack
     By A1W5G9ITZQ64TN on 2008-08-09
If you only need a short optical cord, you can get this one for $3.00 with shipping and it works fine.
Why pay more?
- Don't Even Bother!!!
     By A3UXF7VLJHFSZ1 on 2008-09-13
I purchased 5 of these with one of the multiple Toslink switches. They didn't work for me at all. I tried each one seperately and none of them worked with the switch. Even more frustrating, was the fact that only one out of five work at all with my 5.1 surround sound system. Then I thought, maybe the selector switch was bad. But after purchasing name brand 3ft optical cables from one of the superstores, I found that the switch works great. Problem solved. I threw these things in the trash. I paid about 45 times more for the name brand cables. It was more than worth it. DON'T EVEN BOTHER!!!
