Does the job--at a great price. By A2TDEY1JQEI0NA on 2007-09-24
Digital audio cable (or TOSLINK, as it is also commonly known) is a very common interface in my home entertainment system. My aging Sony A/V reciever only has 4 optical ins/outs and my system of components using the cable standard easily doubles that. I've purchased optical cable switchers and have a lot of optical cable running in the back of my media center. In that regards, I have a number of makes and models of cables, from minimalist and very delicate in build quality to quite robust (and perhaps to the point of overkill). This Tripp Lite cable fits squarely in the middle...a nice solid cable that feels good, but not indestructable. I plugged it in and it works just fine.
Why does build quality matter? TOSLINK, a glass fiber based optical cable standard, is nice, thin and robust in its transmission speeds--but it is susceptible to breaking by overtwisting or sharp impact. If you're comfortable using thin cheap optical cabling because your system is sealed and the cabling rarely accessed, go for it. But for many of us, your system isn't in 'lock down mode' and you may have an intermittent need to rewire or get back there in the "rats' nest" on occasion. For that reason, I recommend this product as a good compromise between cost/quality...it will take the knocks/use (within reason) without breaking the bank.
In short--you don't need the more expensive solutions by Monster or Belkin (which I own and respect). Just evaluate your scenario/circumstances and buy accordingly.
An optical cable is an optical cable By A2GTVPUMKDP6GW on 2007-02-03
Don't fall for the rediculous notion that there is some difference between the quality of different optical cables. Unlike analog cables (like speaker cables) an optical cable only transmits a digital signal, so there is no "quality" to their performance. So, buy a great, cheap cable like this one.
Great cable at a great price By A21Q93IDJLZ5AI on 2007-07-13
I was so pleased to find this quality optical cable at a reasonable price that I bought two. I also appreciated that it was packaged in a simple ziplock-style bag, rather than the bulky, difficult to open plastic stuff that most cables are packaged in.
Good cable and low price By AA7A8OI1ON68C on 2007-06-26
I picked this up to connect my Sony PlayStation 3 (60GB) to my surround sound system so that I could enjoy the full benefits of Blu-ray. Being an optical cable there are no issues with signal distortion and the cable operated at the same level as other more expensive cables that I already owned. The only disappointment with this cable was the thin plastic bag that was used for packaging - while my cable appears to be fine I would caution any buyers to check for damage to the cable immediately.
CHEAP....BUT WORKS GREAT! By A2OG5EHQ8L8KUZ on 2007-08-22
I bought this optical cable to attach my Playstation 3 to my Yamaha receiver.
It works and sounds perfectly. Much better quality sound than using r and l
output wires. Less wiring to deal with also. Highly recommend!
- WOW!
     By A371W8DSXL6CFA on 2007-11-28
I just installed 2 of these TOS cables in my system (Onkyo receiver, cable box and Sony DVD player). The sound is AMAZING!!! If you REALLY want your cables (that are hidden behind your components) to say "Monster" on them, then by all means, spend the 50+ dollars. I'm glad I got these, and I recommend them with no hesitation.
- Best bang for the buck
     By A2LVHZJIIZ118P on 2007-08-23
Cable works great connecting my xbox 360 to my home theatre system. The sound is incredible. Don't waste your money on high priced cables, this one does the job very well.
- No complaints
     By A1INDDLW9J0NS7 on 2007-10-29
There is no need for a long, drawn out explanation of this item. If you are looking for an optical cable, then you already know what it is.
It works as intended & is at a great price.
- I'm Afraid of Monster! The Price, Anyway!
     By AGIGF7QG1WYPM on 2007-11-15
This cable does what it's supposed to do. Great audio quality, and a very affordable price. I just can't justify paying 50 bucks (or even $20) for a digital audio cable.
- A good quality toslink cable
     By AX5DNZ7O7AWII on 2007-11-30
Not much more to say. Most of your cheaper cables are poorly made but this one is well put together. It doesn't have the same level of protection as the really expensive ones but you really don't need it as long as you don't abuse them or tie them in knots.
Everything hooked up perfect and the difference in sound quality is amazing. If you've been putting off upgrading because of cable prices grab a couple of these and enjoy the improvement.
- Quality toslink cable that does the job
     By AIBRTGBN07D6A on 2008-01-10
For anyone looking for a digital optical cable, the Tripp Lite is a very affordable solution. It is not the highest quality cable, but since it is transmitting a digital signal, quality does not really matter. The only way quality comes into play with optical cables is in the housing. There are many cheap cables out there that can have the ends break off after a lot of reconnecting. This cable is sort of mid-quality in terms of housing. It does not feel cheap, but I also wouldn't expect it to last ten years like a Monster cable would. But at this price, it is a great choice if you plan on connecting it and leaving it alone for awhile. I have bought two and it sounds great.
Do not be fooled into spending $80 for Monster cables when this cable does exactly what it needs to. I have a premium "Monster-type" cable and there is no distinguishable difference in sound. If you are currently using component or God-forbid, analog RCA cables for your audio connections, I definitely recommend upgrading to toslink. You will definitely notice a difference in sound.
- Works great with my Tivo
     By A9XC6RHGU5EBP on 2007-10-17
Using it for my digital audio from my Tivo to my AVR. Works great... 5.1 and HD is a great combination.
- TOSLINK Cable 6'
     By A387N154PUSBG2 on 2007-10-30
This TOSLINK 6' cable works great, just as described. Would order again from this vendor. A++++
- good product
     By A1N24KEIJ8NMIE on 2008-03-12
I purchased two of these cables and they work fine. There is no sound difference between them and the $45.00 cable that I had purchased at a local retailer. The thickness of the shielding is not quite as good, but I don't move my cables around so I am not worried about it. These cables do the job just fine, no need to spend $45.00 plus on a cable that does exactly the same thing.
- TRIPP LITE DIGITAL AUDIO CABLE
     By A3VMU1CEID9KHP on 2008-03-18
This cable connects my recently installed DirecTV HD Receiver and a Yamaha 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound system. Overall sound quality is excellent. I haven't tried any other cable so it is not possible for me to compare performance but I'd be surprised if some "high end" cable would sound much better. The cable is a bit flimsy but the bottom line is that it works well.
- great cable
     By A3F99LRE32DG5X on 2007-12-03
i have this cable connecting from HD cable box to my Samsung theatre system and the sound is great. No need to pay more. A cable is a cable.

- Digital Optical Cable
     By A2FUB31VF55UZ3 on 2008-02-10
Very good price. Fast shipping. Shipping charges is a little steep considering it is coming from less than 10 miles away.
- Good cheap item
     By A33CHNOME6EIS3 on 2008-01-19
Cheap and works good. Not a nice fit - had to squeeze it in there - but is fine - also don't forget to remove the plastic bulb casing before trying to insert it - if you have never seen an optical cable before (like me). With shipping and handling comes to about 13 bucks - still cheaper than stuff u can buy at a brick-&-mortar store.
- Poor Connection
     By A9Y73FVAAZM6B on 2008-02-15
These cables are cheap and it shows. They don't "snap" into the port to make a positive connection like other cables I have used, and easily fall out with the slightest touch. I plan to send the two I bought back for a refund.
- Great Price and value
     By ANZ3GVYW66TBS on 2008-02-20
The Tripp Lite Digital Audio Cable arrived in a plastic bag. No flashy packaging or difficult plastic casing I normally curse when purchasing cable. (I HATE cutting through hard plastic cases to get to a product. Whoever invented that method should be cursed with a thousand boils.)
Just open the bag and put the cable to work.
It's sturdy and not at all flimsy like optical cables I've purchased from other companies.
I hooked my new cable from my cable box directly into my 5.1 surround system for crisp, noise free performance.
Great value for the dollar.
- Can't beat it for the price
     By A3L706G7TP4AWK on 2008-02-22
This digital cable is very bare bones, but it worked great for linking between my PS2 and my Sony receiver. It is able to carry the digital signal without a problem. Why someone would purchase Monster cables is beyond my understanding seeing that I spent a few dollars to purchase the same length of cable that could have costed 20 or 30 bucks.
- As advertised
     By A1X7VGXTAVHENQ on 2008-02-24
Optical tosslink cable. Works as advertised. I use it to connect my Mac Pro to the Logitech Z550 speakers.
- Does what it should
     By A9KBGCO18K52W on 2008-02-25
Digital either works or it doesn't. This works. Not the greatest connectors or the heaviest rubber sleeve, but it gets the job done. And that's all I need, especially for less than $10.
- Great Price, Fine Product
     By A34T4N7NUABPYA on 2008-02-28
I had my doubts about buying this product since I was unfamiliar with the brand. So far I have been using it for a few months and it's held up being switch around as my home theatre grows.
- Good value
     By A1A2IN4HAAI8Q3 on 2008-02-29
Very good product - reasonably priced. I am very happy with the quality we are getting from this digital audio cable.
- cable review
     By A1WLX8C7ETEKBF on 2008-03-07
It works overall as designed. The only complaint is that cable does not fit snugly into receiver and into PS3.
- Great Sound, Great Price!
     By A18INSAG4QF7ZQ on 2008-04-14
I resisted the marketing hype that was urging me to pay a lot of money for my fiber optic digital cables, and I couldn't be more satisfied with this product.
The sound is great for these cables - I am linking two cables between my Home Theater receiver, and my external CD player and DVD player/recorder, respectively.
The combination of the Onkyo HT-SR800 and these cables has netted me awesome sounding digital audio for my music and movies.
These come highly recommended...especially at this price!
- What? It's just a cable for Pete's Sake
     By A6AY2TPU1UPAA on 2007-12-13
Optical Cable. Plug it in. Configure your equipment to use the Optical Channel. That's all there is to it. It either works, or it doesn't. So far, it works !!!! Let's hope it stays that way.
- Great Product
     By A14H5C8FC62GDA on 2007-12-17
This product is really good, it is not expensive and it works as it should. Highly recommendable
