• Well made and does what it's supposed to

  I was hesitant at first to purchase a suction-mounted bracket because I never have luck with these things; they always seem to fall off at the most inconvient time. But this unit stays firmly attached to the windshield. The GPS fits perfectly into the holder and can be tilted and swiveled to the perfect viewing angle. The USB/power cable clips neatly into a cutout on the back of the holder and it can be left in place there when you remove the GPS.
  
  My only complaint, if you can even call it a complaint, is that it does tend to sway while driving - which is to be expected with such a long neck hanging down from the mounting point. The sway is not bad during normal street driving but I definitely would not recommend it for off-road use unless you come up with a method to keep the bottom from swinging like a pendulum.
  
  Overall this product is well worth having if you plan to take your eXplorist on the road. Oh, and I will also mention that this bracket is for the 100-600 series only, not the XL.

  I purchased this item a month ago and it works well for me. It sticks well to the windshield, the handheld stays in place and is easy to adjust. I am quite happy with this purchase.

  This item supports only Magellan Explorist models 500 and 600, I have bought it to support XL but it is very small.

• Decent mount, bad design

  I own the Explorist 500LE and bought this mount and the cigarette lighter adapter for the unit to use in my truck. As noted in some of the other reviews the USB connector, which also provides power to the unit, has a ridiculous screw on method of attachment. Understanding that it may be necessary to have a non standard USB type of connection for water tightness, there must be a better way to accomplish the connection.
  
  When you have the mount stuck to your winshield and try to connect the USB/external power cable it is nearly impossible to 1) get the power connector through the mounting bracket and properly aligned with the back of the Magellan and 2) be able to screw on connector that is rather tight between the back of the cradle and the mounting bracket arm that attaches to the windshield. (The same screw type connector that is used on the back of the Magellan battery compartment.) It apears that the USB connector is supposed to clip/snap into place onto the back of the bracket so you can remove the Magellan and leave the cord in place on the bracket. I couldn't get it to hold or keep the connector. Eventually the main tab that is supposed to hold the USB connector in place eventually just broke off. I found it impossible to insert the Magellan into the cradle and connect it to the external power cord without removing it from the windshield.
  
  When I received the bracket, the head was loose on the end of the flexable arm. I removed a few screws and tightened the head, which wasn't a big problem. I found the bracket itself keeps the unit as steady as can be expected and does not droop or change position over time. Whereever you move it to, it stays put. I do like the side to side pivot design of the mount that allows me to turn it to face me when I need it and can be centered so the kids/wife can see it when I don't need to.
  
  If I was just using the mount to hold the unit and didn't plan on using the external power adapter, the mount would receive a 4 out of 5. I'm a Professional Engineer and in my opinion, this system needs to be sent back to the drawing board for a new design.

  This mounting bracket does what it is designed to do. It sticks to the windshield fine, doesn't slip around. Greatly enhances the usefulness of my eXplorist 600 for vehicle navigation. My 600 just happens to fit on my dash without the mount if I wedge it between the trim, covering my speedometer. Using the bracket is much better and way better than fumbling with it in my hand.

• Doesn't Appear to Work with eXploruist XL

  This is a "qualified" bad rating of this bracket because it doesn't appear to work with the XL model of the eXplorist GPS.
  Just took delivery of the "Vehicle Mounting Bracket -P/N 702210" which is widely advertised to be suitable for the Magellan eXplorist GPS series. Well, I can tell you that either something was left out of the package or more likely, this bracket is NOT suitable for use with the larger eXplorist XL GPS. I hope someone can provide directions as to how this puppy will hold the XL GPS, but until they do (I've asked Magellan for clarification as to the suitability of this bracket with the eXplorist XL model), be very carefull if you plan to use this bracket with the larger eXplorist XL GPS.
  
  NEXT DAY UPDATE: Response from Magellan to my question about suitability of P/N 702210, Magellan Vehicle mounting bracket for explorist(tm) GPS, for use with eXplorist XL was to recommend that "... I request you to get the swivel mounting bracket for this unit. ..." I read that to mean the eXplorist XL will not work with this product. Magellan Case #209051 pertains.

  I have an Explorist 210 and this bracket fits it like a glove. Good sturdy bracket, uni-directional, with strong suction cups - installed over a month ago and still has not come loose from windshield. Great product for the money (in my case $30.76 + free shipping). Purchased a second one for my other vehicle.

  I bought the mounting bracket to use while geocaching. It holds my Explorist 500 securley and where I can see it. Great while using turn by turn map programs. Good product.
