  • trust nintendo brand

    By A35MX4QYGZ25FN on 2005-12-01
good and comfortable controller (better than the N64 ones were). It works much better than a 3rd party controller, such as madcatz. If you plan to, or have played "super smash brothers melee"(great game) you will notice how much easier it is to pull-off moves with a nintendo brand controller. It is worth the extra money, no-matter what it says on the third party company's package (dont be fooled by a third party controllers extra button: the "M" button, it does nothing because a nintendo brand controller doesnt have one and developers design games according to nintendo brand controllers). I never use my cheap madcatz controller (madcatz controller often malfunctions as well), this one is much better, and black goes with everything. My rule of thumb: Nintendo brand game accessories are more reliable, longer lasting, eye appealing and overall better than third party distributers. *please vote yes if I helped*

  • Don't blame the controller

    By A3M4HWLZG1H84W on 2006-04-28
I really don't think you can blame the controller because you were careless with it and left it somewhere the dog could chew it up. That's your fault, not the controller's, and it's not fair to give a controller 1 star because of something stupid that you or your dog did. (Wow, this is a good demonstration of why kids need to be supervised online. You're supposed to be over the age of 13 to write a review.)

  • Controller Crazy

    By A3W4D8XOGLWUN5 on 2004-09-12
For Nintendo's Gamecube, there are really several choices you can choose from in the way of the controllers for the system. You can either choose the basic third-party controller from another company, that claims to be much better than the original controller's by Nintendo, or you can just stick with the traditional wired controller by Nintendo. The Gamecube controller is very simple and easy to master for several different video games for the Gamecube, and thensome. Nevertheless, many people may not want the original because of the price. It isn't the price, but the quality of the controller is what has to count. I like it in black, and Nintendo hits this nail on the head with controllers.

  • An actual review for this item

    By A1MQHP36X7M278 on 2006-01-02
The other reviewer seems to think that an item review is the place to rant. I have no idea what he is talking about. I have ordered dozens of items from Amazon and have never had any problems. My orders have always arrived before the expected delivery date.

As for the controller, there is no difference between the platinum, black, purple, and orange controllers. I have three GC controllers and they have all stood the test of time. If you don't mind the lack of a rumble feature, the Wavebird wireless controller is the better way to go. I do like the rumble feature so I stick with the corded ones.

  • An excellent controller.

    By A3OIC7GUFY941R on 2004-05-18
When the Xbox, PS2, and GC were first on the market in 2001, (PS2 came out in 2000, but wasn't in supply until the other systems came out) there was much arguement about which one had the best controller. PS2 usually will win, but I have to disagree. I find the GC controller to be the easiest to use. This controller is identical to the one you would receive when you purchase a Jet Black Game Cube. Please note that the Game Cube only comes with one controller, so if you're planning on playing two player games you'll need to get another one. Yes there are cheaper ones on the market, most notably ones from Intec, Mad Catz, Pelican etc, HOWEVER if you read the fine print in your warranty, using any 3rd party product such as those, will automatically void your warranty with the system. For the few extra dollars you spend it will be well worth your purchase. This controller is also very rugged I've had my Game Cube since 2001, and my controller has been stepped on, spilled on, etc, and it's in perfect working order. Save yourself the trouble, and get one of these.

  • Very Comfortable Controller, Only a Few Issues...
    By A1517476XFOC7A on 2004-10-13
I've always loved Nintendo controllers. Until recently, that was because I could only afford 1 system. Now that I own all 3 "next-gen" systems, I can safely say that the GameCube controller fits best in my hands.

All of the face buttons are in easy reach, but that isn't the case for the "Z" button, inconveniently located on the top right of the controller. Seemingly squished between the R and the face, this button is not used by all games, but is a pain to try to hit without straining your hands.

The right "C" stick is another odd addition. Featuring heavily in games like "Luigi's Mansion", this control pales in comparison to the analog sticks of the XBox or PS2, or even with the directional pad of days gone by.

That being said, this is a first-party controller, and your movements on it are translated precisely to the game you are playing. Since many games only require use of the left joystick and the face buttons, the above concerns will not reduce your enjoyment of the controller for all games.

I'm happy with my controller, I just hope that the next Nintendo's controller has all buttons within easy reach.

  • Great Controller! Great Color!!!
    By A38NXFUXX5OHPK on 2006-01-25
First off I want to say that I did not buy another controller for my GameCube yet, but bought the platinum edition system and it came with one controller. My first color pick for the GameCube was this, and that would be followed by Black and then blue, anyway I am here to review the GameCube controller in general.
It is nice and compact, and very comfotable to hold and play. The L and R buttons are a nice place to rest your fingers on when playing, I love everything about the controller. I admit the X Y and the kydney shaped ones are hard to get straight but they arent like the PS2's and Xboxes with all those shapes! Definetely get a gamecube! The controllers rock!

  • Great, but prepare to keep buying them...
    By on 2004-01-23
My daughter loves her GameCube, but the controller broke in only 30 days! My daughter takes good care of her things. When I went to Toys-R-Us to replace it, I was told to buy the extended warranty because the controllers always break.
The demo GameCube at the store had a broken controller too. Is Nintendo making them with short life spans? They get pretty expensive after awhile.

  • Great controller for playing GCN titles on your Wii
    By A1PYN888ETZQ2Z on 2007-04-07
I bought this for playing Gamecube titles on my Wii. Works perfectly, and fits my hands rather well despite its small size.

My only complaint is that the d-pad (cross) is quite small. Nintendo should have made those at least a little larger. The d-pad is ok, but third party alternatives offer larger d-pads (and usually less responsive buttons).

Still, this is the cheapest road to backwards compatibility for your Wii, and you need a corded controller if you want the rumble feature.

  • Best Controller for Wii (GC & Virtual Games), Best Also for the Gamecube
    By A1ODOGXEYECQQ8 on 2008-05-23
The Wii classic controller is a bit awkward and hard to use. Although it has an advantage of being wireless, you still need to attach it to the Wiimote (where it dangles like the Nunchuk). This is more of an issue when you play older Gamecube games and downloadable virtual games when you need to press a combination of buttons to run and jump at the same time. Too bad, the jump button (on the Wii classic controller) is far from the run button and much smaller than the original design. For these reasons, the original GC controller is still the preferable choice.
I have used other 3rd party controllers and nothing can get close to the original Nintendo controller.

    Pros:
    - Perfect response. The most annoying thing that some 3rd party controllers are notorious to is snapping back to the opposite direction when you wanted to have your Pacman or Mario guy turn right or left.
    - Perfect handgrip
    - rumble effect
    - Unlike the Nintendo "Wavebird", this is still available.

    Cons:
    - Wired
    - Expensive, as Nintendo has almost abandoned the Gamecube console for Wii and very few are left.

  • Durable, Perfectly Done
    By AKDV7P5ZNGOEM on 2004-10-09
Wow!! Nintendo has perfected the gaming system controller. All of the buttons have perfect positions and are very easy to get used to. Microsoft didn't do very well (" AHHH! THE CONTROLLER IS EATING ME ALIVE"). Sony really messed up. But Nintendo, a brand everyone trusts, makes it best. NOTE: DO NOT BY 3RD PARTY CONTROLLERS!! THEY ARE BAD!!!

  • Because you don't want to make your friends sick
    By A2R0XJ6X869AE0 on 2005-04-04
When I first went shopping for a second controller for my GameCube, I admit I was looking for one that matched my Platinum Edition controller. I couldn't find one that wasn't a Wavebird (nothing wrong with a Wavebird - the wireless controller - that I know of, but I was just too cheap to spend the extra $10). So I bought a black controller to match my TV. Now that I think about it, buying a different controller was a smart thing to do. Why didn't I plan on that in the first place? I spent part of the winter battling a cold or the flu at various times, and I can't underestimate the importance of controlling the spread of viruses and bacteria. Having different-colored controllers makes it easier to remember which controller I've been using in between nose-blowing sessions. When a housemate or friend wants to play GameCube as I lay suffering on the other couch, I am able to croak out the words "use the black one today. Trust me."

I also have a phobia against third-party hardware - so it's good of Nintendo (not to mention profitable for Nintendo) to sell spare parts.

The most important things about a controller are: does it fit comfortably in your hand, and are the buttons easy to find and use? The only thing I don't like is the placement of the Z button. The cord is plenty long, and the buttons are responsive enough. I also like that they're color-coded.

  • Almost my favorite of the 3 main systems' controllers.
    By A21Q29J3ZWPDNP on 2005-11-10
I've pretty much been partial to the Playstation controllers since I got my PS1 back in 1997. When I saw the Nintendo 64 controller, I nearly puked. The joystick in the middle didn't make any sense to me. I looked at the GameCube controller, and wasn't exactly impressed. It looked kinda goofy-asymmetric, maybe.

Well, when I finally picked one up, I found that it fit my hands much better than the PS models. This would be my favorite controller if Nintendo changed a few things.

    1. The Z button is too hard for me to reach.
    2. The C joystick and the D pad are in awkward positions.

Fortunately most games don't really force you to use these much, but if you're going to put buttons on a controller, make them all easily accessible. Due to these flaws, I can't really say it's better than the PlayStation's design. They're probalby tied.

  • Not just for kids. Comfortable, w/ a few glitches
    By AAR7NW23LWV5E on 2006-06-01
I will firstly say that I am not in the pre-teen average age range for GameCube, but I still like this controller. When I first saw it, I thought it would be too small for my hands, and that the button placement looked awkward. I couldn't have been more wrong. The controller fits comfortably, even into my larger than average hands (For XBOX, I prefer the bigger, older controller to the smaller Controller S) and all of the buttons are within easy reach. The controller is set up in a way that the controlls are very instinctive for most games. It also allows you to roll your thumb from button to button, allowing for smoother gameplay than on systems where you have to lift your thumb and press the buttons.
The R and L shoulder buttons on the controller are sensitive to the degree that they are being pushed, allowing more versatile controlls than on PS2 for shooters, racing games, and a few others.
The control stick is comfortable and precise. The C-Stick is usually superb, but in a few third party games I have found it awkward. Because it is not the same size and shape as most control sticks, it can be awkward using it as one. The C-Stick, however, performs admirably in Madden, where I find it to be preferable to the XBOX and PS2 controllers. The only quality issue that I have found with Gamecube is with the C-Stick. If you tend to slam your controllers on the ground, or leave them to be sat on, etc, the C Stick sometimes breaks, so that the system thinks that you are always pushing it upwards.

Overall, a very comfortable and easy to use controller. High quality manufacturing, with one glitch.

  • Its a controller
    By on 2007-02-14
Face it. Its a conttroler and its just that same as eny other. Don't go and by a sponge bob controler its JUST THE SAME!!! Do not bye this here on amazon. Buy it at wal-mart or target. I also sugest you get a wirless.
Pay a maximum of 20 dollars.

  • Perfect for Wii
    By A2VLQY59EF1ETR on 2007-12-24
I bought this for my Nintendo Wii...I didn't want to spend a lot as I'm not sure how many Gamecube games I intended to invest in, but I'm pleased with the product based on the use I'll get out of it. It's definitely not the nicest controller one could get, but it works great with Nintendo Wii.

  • It's pretty, but does it really work?
    By A11LS12ZU93SV6 on 2004-01-21
What you see is what you get. The tiny D-Pad is slightly out of reach, you have to press the L and R buttons in until they click for most third party titles when not used for analog purposes. I think the two kidney buttons (I said kidney, not kiddy!!!!!!!) look and feel a little weird, and sometimes make Street Fighter style games with different attack levels (ex quick, medium, strong) a bit confusing.
I wish Nintendo would make another style with the trigger buttons more like the X-Box and PS2. I also think a digital/analog switch would have been nice to solve that mandatory click problem in third party titles.

  • Better than G-force, Datel, and Pelican controllers
    By A1HCE29HCKS6AF on 2004-01-30
This is the best GCN controller. It works better than any other factory made controller so just rely on Nintendo products Made by nintendo and look for the Nintendo symbol on packages (I sound like the back of a game box). I don't have this controller but I have a platinum controller that came with my platinum Gamecube and it works alot better on Mario Kart: Double Dash than my controller made by Datel. That controller made me go really slow and the Z button and Start button had to get hit with a wrecking ball just to make it work. I will just sit that aside and buy a new black controller so I can tell which 1 is first and which 1 is second unlike my PS2 controllers.

  • Great for 2year's!
    By on 2004-06-21
I got this controller in June of 2002 after I got my gamecube for my BDAY. Today they both turn by themselves in games and my dad loves Sonic Mega Collection so it drives him nuts. Otherwise its good and I think 4 stars is generous. It has been stepped on by a 300 pound person when I dropped it on the sidewalk and survived so...

  • Comfortable, but not functional
    By A1U996YEDDRCD7 on 2004-07-19
Ever used an X-Box controller? Well, just think of the Gamecube controller as the exact opposite. The X-Box controller is enormous and has a very clunky feel, and it's difficult to use if you have small hands. The Gamecube controller, however, is very easy to use, and it molds into your hands no matter how big your hands are. The thumbsticks are both quite comfortable, making it a controller that you can use with minimal strain.

So what's wrong with the Gamecube controller? It is, simply, too simple (get it?). With only 6 buttons (not including Start), the Gamecube controller just isn't suited for games, such as sports and action games, that need a lot more than 6 buttons. While playing "True Crime: Streets of LA", I found myself having to press multiple buttons at the same time and sometimes I wished I had three hands because it was quite the inconvenience! And with the awkward button layout, it's hard to press two or more buttons at once, unless your thumbs bend in very unusual ways. Also, I've noticed the durability of this controller is lacking, the L and R buttons start acting funny after a while. Lastly, the cord is just too freakin' short!

Too bad it's the only controller Nintendo offers besides the pricey wireless Wavebird, because this controller at times just won't do. At least Microsoft released a smaller X-Box controller... Nintendo should release a BETTER gamecube controller.

  • GREAT BUY!
    By on 2006-01-24
My mom got this for me a few weeks ago and it is so much better than a crappy lookin' wireless controller!

you should buy this rather than a crappy wireless controller!

  • excellent!
    By AO9WOQEIEIQW1 on 2006-08-30
It has held up well with 4 kids and I am going to invest in 2 additional GC Indigo.

  • Great Controller, Ignore the Negative Review...
    By A1JBBR4MNGQ70G on 2006-10-22
Another reviewer gave this excellent controller one star just because he left it in a place where his dog could chew on it. This is a result of his on laziness, not the sighn of a bad controller. So, let me make it clear that is a true essential for all GC owners...that is, those how can keep it away from their pets.

  • Overpriced??
    By ALU2AP729EB5T on 2007-11-05
Why pay $35+ shipping to buy a new GC controller from these guys, when you can get a new one from nintendo or gamestop for $25+shipping?

These guys are trying to rip us off!

The controller itself is great btw, the best controller ever made IMO

  • happy with purchase
    By A1XCWJJ4KW1O1H on 2007-12-31
We needed to get a new controller to replace an off-brand one that was not working reliably. We had two that worked well, that were made by Nintendo, and one that was made by another brand. Great purchase. For us it has been worth it to pay for the name brand, as it's more reliable, even if it does cost a little extra. Looks sleek. Works really well. Color never seems to matter to us in how it works, but the brand name does seem to make a difference.

  • Knockoffs
    By A1185ANIR9AYFG on 2008-03-23
To be perfectly honest with you guys the controlers arrived on time. Very punctual timing and that's about as postive as its gonna get.
First and formost the controlers are knock-offs they might say nintendo on the image displayed when you first look to purchase the product, however when they arrive its a totally different story. In conparision to the regular nintiedo controlers size and weight are different. "The knockoffs are much lighter and durable and the size is much smaller. Me and my roomates used the controlers for 2weeks, and guess what they all stopped working. I purchased four of them all in different colors and every single one of them stopped working. So please if you come across this review DO NO PURCHASE THESE CONTROLERS!! im trying to save you money and dissappointment! im a victim lol

  • How I love this controller
    By A27RCH8PRJ16BB on 2003-12-13
This comtroller is soooooooo cool my heart will pound.this controller will pack most of a punch.

  • Amazing...the one excellent thing about the Gamecube....
    By A2U3VSOJK82M69 on 2003-12-25
I'm not too thrilled with the Gamecube and I think that Nintendo failed to create as good a system as they had done with N64. However, with everything they messed up with the GC, they created the best controller. It beats the Xbox, PS2, and N64 controllers in style, comfort, "ergonomicness", and function by a longshot. I could press the R and L buttons for hours...wow are they comfortable. It is such a great controller that there are very few GC games that feature bad controlls: it works well with almost everygame, and it is very easy to get used to. There's not much to say about it...except that it is an amazing controller.

  • A Great Controller
    By A29BQ6B90Y1R5F on 2004-01-04
The controller for the Gamecube is very good. The design isn't bad at all and the button placement works out fine...except for the D-Pad, which would've been better had it not been so small.

The button response is excellent and works great. The buttons don't pop out easily or anything like that, and if you have small hands it fits right in (it doesn't quite fit in my hands but it's comfortable nonetheless).

My problem is where they placed the D-Pad. They placed it right next to the C-Stick which wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't so small. The D-Pad is no bigger than the "A" button. The good news, the Joystick works WAY better than the D-Pad. Since the D-Pad is so small, pressing UP will make you go Up and to the right or left. Still, the conroller works and its the msot durable. My biggest gripe however, (and why it got four stars) is that the cord isn't long enough. It's rather short, actually.

Either way it's a good controller and it works great. If you've got a gamecube, buy it.

  • gamecube controller
    By on 2004-02-27
the only problem with the controller is that the cord is too short,i have had the controller more than a year and it works great , has never broke,my little bro and his friends played and still fine.
