  • Meets a specific need

    By A31MFTFJTNTTP6 on 2005-07-15
If you need to add an extra monitor and can't use a standard video card, then this is for you.

On the other hand, this can't match the quality of a standard video card, and motion will look somewhat choppy. If an extra PCI or IDE video card would work with your system, then that would be the better choice.

    PROS
    * Can be connected with only a USB 2.0 port.
    * You can plug or unplug it from the USB port without problems, and the monitor will be immediately added to or removed from your desktop.
    * Up to 1280x1024 resolution at 16 bits (near true color), with 32-bit true color available for 1152x864 and lower resolutions. (You may need to download the newest drivers for high resolution).
    * Can support a flicker-free refresh rate of 85 Hz at the top resolution.
    * The display on the attached monitor is crisp and clean.
    * Small, attractive design with a blue LED.
    * Powered through the USB port.
    * I've been using one without a problem for nearly a year.

    CONS
    * While the newest drivers (downloadable from Tritton) are easy to install and have passed WHQL testing, the older drivers that may still ship with the device aren't as polished.
    * Attaching the device to a different USB port means installing the drivers again (apparently the manufacturer saved money by not giving each device a unique electronic serial number).
    * Motion on the attached monitor is somewhat choppy. It's fine for things like email, word processing, or web browsing, but it's not fast enough for games or video.
    * DirectX 3D windows (including any DirectX9 window) won't work. This means that some games can't display if you drag them to the attatched monitor.
    * The driver puts an icon in the Taskbar's notification area (system tray), with no way to get rid of the icon. (On the other hand, the icon's popup menu may be convenient.)
    * The connector is standard VGA, not DVI.

Again, it's a good device, as long as you don't want to play games on it.

  • Very nice, but with a few limitations

    By A2OTC3L3AT0ERF on 2006-07-29
I've been using a laptop with the built-in screen and connected to an external monitor for several years. Most modern laptops will do this, and once you get proficient with two screens, it's impossible to go back to one.

Now, I bought the Tritton adapter for add to my existing setup as a 3rd screen. Just to make sure this is clear, my laptop screen is screen 1, the vga port on the back of the laptop goes to screen 2, and the Tritton goes from USB to screen 3.

I'm hooked. One screen good, two screens great, 3 screens fantastic!

Now, they are't all created equal though. The tritton is much slower than either of my other screens. Dragging a window around is choppy as is moving the mouse around on a "busy" screen. For instance Word and Notepad are very responsive (mostly white paper) but a development environment such as [...]

If you've ever used a remote-controlling tool such as Terminal Services, Remote Desktop, Citrix, PC Anywhere, Laplink, WebEx, etc, then the response on the Tritton is a lot like that. The mouse kind of hops around a bit, and it takes a bit of getting used to before you hit the icon every time. But it's just that, something that takes some getting used to.

I run a lot of things on my USB port (laser mouse, thumb drive, docking station hub, keyboard, Maxtor hard drive, etc. Will all of these plugged in and running the Tritton is still very usable. Anyone running less on their USB port will probably see somewhat better performance than I'm seeing.

Installation was a breeze. Pop in the mini-CD, it auto-installs the driver requiring only a "Next" and then a reboot. After the reboot, connect the adapter and the monitor and presto you're in business. The screen enables by itself so immediately after install you should be able to see something on the new screen. You may have to tweak your monitor settings to get it to position exactly where you want it (it defaulted to the right of my existing screens) and the resolution defaulted to 1024x768. Use Control Panel > Display Settings or the Tritton icon in the system tray to change the resolution.

I wonder if you could run two of these on the same PC...... Please post here if you have tried!

  • DOES NOT SUPPORT WINDOWS VISTA!!!

    By AXARTAQU05PFL on 2007-02-15
I mistakenly purchased this item hoping to use it with my Windows Vista laptop. Don't do that! The tech support case that I registered to simply ask when they expected to have a Windows Vista driver went unanswered for over a week. Good thing I stopped waiting for an answer after about three days. Thus far, the only Windows Vista compatible device that I have found for using more than one monitor with my laptop is the Matrox Dual and Triple Head2Go devices. I am using a DualHead2Go right now, but I really wish I purchased a triple. What I didn't think about when buying the less expensive DualHead2Go is that the center of my screen (where most messages default to appear) is right at the split between two monitors. The TripleHead2Go would not have the same problem as it uses three screens as one, so the center would be in the center of the center screen (instead of divided between two screens as in the Dual).

  • Great for office work on a laptop

    By A1IBRZ4M36BERT on 2006-05-24
This thing is fantastic if you have a laptop that cannot support dual monitors. My ThinkPad T43P has dual-monitor support while undocked by using the built-in LCD panel as one monitor, but once you dock it and close the lid, you're stuck with a single monitor. I tried the Matrox DualHead2Go first, which tricks your laptop into thinking 2 monitors are really a single loooong monitor, and that works fairly well. I bought the SEE2 to add a 3rd monitor. Don't even think of doing anything that is graphics intensive - but it is great for holding a reference document, or leaving your e-mail up while working. If you need something that doesn't get bogged down when redrawing graphics, go for the DualHead2Go or even the TripleHead2Go.

Also, since my primary monitor had a USB connection to my laptop (in addition to the VGA cable), I just daisy-chained this sucker right off of my other monitor and didn't have to run another cable.

All in all, for basic office work, it's a winner. And extremely easy to set up.

  • Excellent within its limits

    By AR1U412KDDF03 on 2007-04-26
The Tritton is an excellent product as long as you bear its limitations in mind. It is definitely not the equivalent of a high-performance graphics card, but it is great for extending your desktop to one more monitor. That's what I needed and that's what I got, easily and cheaply.

I use Windows XP on a Sony VAIO laptop with one external SVGA port. Some of my work is very graphics intensive and some is not (e.g., email, programming). I needed more screen space, i.e., multiple monitors.

Using the Tritton SEE2, I now have ample room to work on three screens. In addition to the laptop screen, I use two external LCD panels, one connected to the laptop's SVGA port, and one connected to a USB 2.0 port using the Tritton. I use the SVGA port monitor or the laptop monitor for graphics-intensive tasks, and the USB monitor for primarily textual tasks.

The instructions are good, and the basic setup was easy. After installing the drivers from the CD, I set up an Extended Desktop configuration in Windows XP. The laptop recognized all three monitors and allowed me to set different resolutions and color depths as needed. I run the USB monitor at 1280 x 1024, with 16 bit color. I run the SVGA one at 1280 x 1024 with 32 bit color, and the laptop at 1280 x 800 with 32 bit color. Configuring the SVGA port external monitor as the Primary Monitor took some trial and error, but worked OK.

This setup is not completely perfect, but its a vast improvement over what I could do otherwise. The monitor running through USB is somewhat slower than the one running through the SVGA port, as one would expect. If I run the graphics-intensive tasks on the USB monitor, I find the slowness annoying. But for textual tasks, it works great and I'm very happy to have it.

Previously, I tried the Matrox DualHead2Go product. It worked very nicely, and both external monitors were equally fast, but it would only allow me 1280 x 768 resolution due to my particular graphics chipset, which I found insufficient and annoying. If you can afford the higher price for the Matrox, and it is compatible with your graphics chipset at the resolution you need, you may be happier with the Matrox approach. Otherwise, using the Tritton for low-intensity graphics is a great way to get more screen real-estate.

Overall, I am very pleased with the Tritton SEE2 product and wouldn't want to be without it.

  • Great device IF you consider its purpose
    By A1QIG7QE1K73JW on 2006-09-19
I got this for a home office to run dual 19" monitors from a laptop. For this purpose, it's GREAT to be able to have 2 1280x1024 monitors working together. These are primarily for business applications, so I'm not playing games or trying to watch movies. The extra screen real estate for working between multiple applications is fabulous, and with the dropping price of LCD monitors, I don't see any reason NOT to work towards this setup.

It DOES have a few odd quirks, such as when launching certain programs, the 'extended monitor' setting turns itself off for no apparent reason. It's simple to turn it back on (done from the taskbar), but by then it has alread collapsed all of your windows back to one screen.

Overall though, I'm extremely happy with the performance for the price!

  • Does what I need
    By A72JN2M86RQUB on 2006-12-20
I bought a MacBook Pro to set up as dual boot -MAC OS/WIN XP. Then found out that the DVI port did not function reliably in windows (this is an Apple driver problem not a windows problem). Bought this to try and it seems to do everything I need. One problem though was the CD that comes in the package, it is one of those tiny little CDs - they do not go into the MAC Book superdrive, or more precisely they may go in but they do not come out. But it was no problem to go to the web site and download the install files. It did take a few minutes to get the resolutions set right.

If all you need is to use it as a second screen for Office apps or for powerpoint it works great and the price is right.

  • TRITTON SEE2 USB 2.0 TO SVGA
    By A2WXE5337QTILN on 2007-01-05
Easy to set up. The only problem I had was at first I tried to hook it up to a USB hub. When I went directly into my computer it worked fine. The only con I have is the monitor hooked up to the Tritton is slower.

  • Adds an 3rd screen to my laptop
    By A34WEBB4H85OL0 on 2006-11-03
Allows me to have 3 screen off a laptop. LCD, VGA output and this extra one. Very helpful when on the road

  • Works as advertised, barely
    By AK31YJQT6YRFJ on 2006-11-04
Not a bad product but has serious issues. USB 2.0 just doesn't seem fast enough for a video card. The screen takes a long time to update and can't run 32bit resolution at 1280x1024. I used this product with a 19" Dell Ultrasharp, and it just didn't do the ultrasharp justice. Product is now sitting my drawer, gathering dust.

  • OUTSTANDING!! DOUBLES YOUR PRODUCTIVITY
    By AQECNEJ5L9TD1 on 2007-02-06
As an office worker, I would be lost without this device. You can use the doubled room on your desktop for anything and it comes in handy. Keep your email open, work on vastly expanded spreadsheets without scrolling, talk to your significant others via webcam on the other screen; Anything is possible with this $75 tool. It will pay for itself in a day and you'll be wondering why you purchase it sooner.

  • *Almost* Unbearably Slow
    By A18UDDEE5PQVU5 on 2007-05-07
I have two monitors at work and found it difficult to switch between that and my one-monitor laptop at home. This definitely lets my laptop use two monitors like it has two graphics cards, but the one plugged into the Tritton was so.....incredibly.....slow......It was tricky to type email, hard to use Dreamweaver, and I didn't even try using Photoshop (but I do put the Photoshop pallets in the window). In short, would be good for laptop users without a 2nd graphics port, but if you have a desktop, crack open the case and get a 2nd video card.

  • Great Product
    By A27K80SBJQQQDS on 2007-05-17
Easy to set up and worked for what I needed without any complaints.

  • Recommended
    By A1EZ8Z72PHMLLQ on 2007-07-05
Running it on the maximum resolution, 1280x1024 with 16-bit color. Works fine for standard office work and Windows Media visualizations look good. Haven't tried it on any more intensive graphics or video tasks, but I recommend it for anyone who needs extra desktop space for simple tasks and who doesn't want to deal with having to put in an internal video card - in my case, because it's a company computer and they won't let me put one in.

  • Solid product with limitations
    By A4NKGU8QRDMKM on 2007-09-09
The adapter works good for relatively low resolutions and for applications that do not require excessive dynamics such as Word, emails, browsing, messaging etc.
It is quite useful for my case that I just need to extend my work desktop. I am not going to use for watching video, gaming etc. Need to clearly understand the natural limitations of this product and you will be happy to use it for which it is for.

  • Good but flawed
    By A2402T2C9WU5Q4 on 2007-09-15
First, let me say that I use this video card to add a THIRD monitor to my setup. My primary is my laptop screen, secondary is a CRT via serial port, and this runs another CRT. The performance of this video card is a bit sluggish, but it gets the job done. In fact, if I had no problems with it, I'd rate it 5 stars.

The problem is that I also use a webcam. When you plug a webcam in, for some reason, there is some sort of hardware conflict between the two devices and at that point, the video card freezes. Then after using the webcam, you have to reset the video card, rearrange your windows again, and go through the whole process again.

  • It works!
    By A397FDB1NFYZX4 on 2007-10-27
    Well, it works.
I bought this video card because I would extend one more monitor in my laptop (now I using three monitors.. rocks!). If I was using a desktop computer, sure, that I will buy a regular video card.

This usb card has a little delay, so the mouse get "little frozen".
But it really works for texts, emails and stuffs like that. If you have a laptop and want one more video card, I recommend it. If you have a desktop, buy a regular video card!

    Cheers,

  • Gotta Have It
    By A2L46F55P3XXNP on 2007-10-29
If you use PowerPoint and a second monitor or screen, you must have this! It's way easier than buying and installing a dual video card, plus cheaper.

  • Memtek TRI-UV100 Tritton SEE2 is a BA's life saver
    By A1VBOWZAVL7SPM on 2007-11-06
There are already lots of reviews for this item. But I'll add my 2 cents. We used it to test and document a complicated billing/accounting application in UAT, and it was a real life saver. It allowed us to exercise the application on one monitor and document the results, with screenshots, on the other. As is stated in other reviews, the refresh is not terribly fast, but it was not problematic for our purposes. Some other devices may be faster, but the Memtek TRI-UV100 Tritton SEE2 is inexpensive - it was about half the price of some competing devices. We used it for more than 100 hours with a variety of PCs, monitors, and a projector, and it worked flawlessly in every situation, and it worked perfectly with SnagIt and LogMeIn, as well. Selecting on/off, functions, and resolutions from the system tray is effortless, and it turns on and off with no fuss. When you turn See2 on, it remembers your last resolution; when you turn it off, your primary monitor instantly resumes its previous function. See2 is great for road warriors, too - it's not much bigger than a mouse and requires no external power. Several of my team mates on the project promptly purchased their own.

  • Not so great
    By A3Q4MR2J2KQBGS on 2007-12-18
This device was used with a 17" LCD at my business. I am a network admin and needed a second screen. My workstation is a small form factor and won't allow the installation of another video card. I generally run terminal windows and spreadsheets, no video.

The Memtek did provide a second screen at many different resolutions, however I could not find any combination that was not dark and blurry. I tried a different monitor and had the same results. I decided to return the Memtek and try something else.

It will provide a second screen but be prepared for dark and blurry.

  • Good enough for me
    By APTSQOV6IABM9 on 2007-12-22
There are some rather severe bandwidth issues that occur when converting data from USB to VGA but this little device does the best it can. Getting really high frame rates and resolution is a nigh impossibility but this converter will get the job done. I added my third monitor at 1280x1024 and it works fine. It browses and does office work without a problem. It also runs YouTube quality videos just fine. Anything other kind of video results in some frame rate loss. I tried to open up an HD movie on it and the thing crashed on me. It supports at least 16bit color up to 1280x1024. Higher resolutions it will recommend lower color settings. And it works really well for the 1024x768 resolution.

Be sure you get the new drivers because they promise support up to 1600x1200. If you want to add and extra monitor but lack the extra VGA or DVI ports this is the way to. It will work fine unless you are gaming or running HD videos on it.

  • Great product. Does what is expected.
    By A1RETZE165IHP8 on 2008-01-12
I was able to install the software and plug it in in less than 5 minutes and everything is working great! To adjust the resolution you have to right click on the icon and choose the correct resolution. I use it for work and wanted a second monitor. My computer does not have any slots for a VGA adapter so this was a great solution. I didn't run any movies or games so I don't know how it performs. I have a feeling it will run fine too ... but for regular editing work (MS word, browsing internet etc.) is great.

  • Add a monitor
    By AFZ71HWHHDG9D on 2008-01-14
Seems when hooked up and using that monitor, mouse seems sluggish and hard to move in certain programs that appear on the second monitor hooked to this port.

  • It Serves its Purpose
    By A1GHJQGX1S41KM on 2008-04-12
Dont' buy this if you want to do video intense activities; but if you want to expand your office desktop and do things like word processing, email, etc. then this product is great. I use two 22" widescreen monitors for my home desktop and wanted to do the same with my laptop. Only 1 problem - laptop only has 1 vga output.

Be careful with your cabling - the adapter on the non-usb end of this is a female adapter- you will need a male-male to conect to you monitor (or a DVI/VGA adapater, etc.)

  • 6 to 1 half a dozen of the other
    By A2WZM8JI5MWQ2G on 2008-05-20
    this product is OK.

I bought if to use with an older laptop that is my workhorse but after using it for about 3 months I switched to the matrox dual head 2 go device.

I do not game (use my xbox 360 for that) so reviews on use for office apps are right on the money. Older laptops will have throughput issues as the USB port will delay any screen activity and give you jitters!

May work better on newer, faster hardware!
