  • Perfect

I bought this 3-pack despite the negative reviews here. Visually, there is almost no difference between these and the original stylus. These are lighter than the original stylus (which I thought was overly heavy anyway), but are still comfortable, with a metal shaft. The fact that a pen is included more than makes up for any loss in weight. The reset pin is kind of useless since you can just use the stylus itself to reset a TX, but it could come in handy for resetting someone else's Palm. It comes with interchangeable snap-on caps so that they will work with some other Palm models (Tungsten E/E2 and Zire 72).

For my old Palm I paid $12 for the Pentopia stylus with a pen, and for the same price you get 3. I liked the Pentopia's springloaded stylus tip, but this one is fixed, just like the original. Also I don't think these are refillable, but I don't use this often enough to run out of ink, just when I don't have a pen handy.

This is a great product, don't be scared away by the bad reviews.

UPDATE: After a year I am still on the first of my three styluses, so they are durable. The pen runs dry under heavy use, but then works again later. Where the tip end screws into the shaft, it gets loose, so I put some glue on the threads to help hold it in place. The cap on the pen still snaps firmly in place.

  • Too lightweight, no reset pin

    By A1ONV776L3J7XO on 2005-12-20
After purchasing the stylus, I immideatley noticed that the styli were far significantly lighter in weight than the factory included stylus for the Tungsten T5. Even worse, after a fatal exception and hard lock on the T5, I noticed that these styli have no built-in pin to hit the reset button with.

  • Not the OEM stylus at all

    By A163S6S1WXMGV8 on 2006-10-23
This is a cheap lightweight substitute made to sell at a low price point. I would gladly pay $20 for ONE of the original weighty styli that came with my TX.

  • Not the best design for such a multi-functionally cool item

    By A2S7NQG0TLL4XM on 2007-01-12
I'm not a negative person, in fact I try to see the best in most everything but when it came to actually USING these stylus with my Palm TX it JUST WASNT WORKING.

Frustratingly the stylus easily slid in its holding area in my unit but when it was needed, when sliding it out, it ALWAYS separated before actually COMING out of the holder.

I have identified the problem: the interchangeable 'head' or top piece (used to adapt this stylus to other units) which simply SNAPS on should actually be a screwed on piece as, with use, the SNAP part fails and thus it no longer functions as one piece causing the problems mentioned above.

TWO of the three stylus dont hold when removed from the handheld (failing snap part).

FRUSTRATINGLY I've switched back to my original stylus knowing I have only ONE operational backup stylus even though I purchased a three pack.

  • Well worth the money, but a few caveats
    By A2HN5AMWG02F1 on 2007-06-27
These styli are well worth the purchase price, but a few things are worth mentioning. The bottom portion of the stylus is screwed in (that's where the reset pin resides) and regularly becomes loose. When it first happened, I thought that the tip was mounted on a spring and it actually made the stylus more comfortable, though I suspect that the threading would wear out if one used it for long in that manner. One of the three styli had the plastic tip fall off. It's easy to fix with a drop of Krazy Glue, but if it fell off unnoticed, it would have rendered the entire stylus unusable. Keep an eye out for loose plastic tips! My final criticism is cosmetic. With heavy use, the chrome plating dulled within a couple of weeks where it makes contact with the skin (and I'm pretty sure I don't ooze hydrochloric acid).

With these or the original stylus, I strongly recommend the use of plastic screen protectors. The tips are relatively soft, but prolonged use will leave irreparable marks on an unprotected screen, especially on spots where you tend to tap most often.

Other than that, it's a great little product. The weight is good, though lighter than the original stylus, the pen writes very nicely and smoothly, and the reset pin is solid metal and doesn't bend out of shape like the flimsy plastic one on the original. With the appropriate (included) cap, it fits perfectly in the Tungsten E2 slot. I'll leave it to other reviewers to comment on the fit with other models.

  • Cheap substitute
    By A1D676Z8ZD6BEV on 2006-10-09
I bought this product at Staples. I thought I was getting a quality product, but as one of the previous reviews says, these styli are very lightweight and don't feel at all like the original (which I unfortunately lost). I wish I could find a legitimate, original replacement instead of these cheap imitations. The stylus end screws on and off and it keeps coming loose while I'm using it; plus, it is not straight so I'm constantly rotating the whole thing to find the correct angle to tap with. I suppose the only saving grace is the hidden pen, which I didn't know was there until I read these reviews. No matter, I don't like it.

  • Nice Upgrade to the Stock Palm Stylus
    By AX6M9C62GMQ6X on 2007-03-09
The pack includes three (3) stylus that include a pen when you need one. These stylus are not as heavy as the original but they are a good balance between weight and features. The stylus works great with the Palm TX.

  • Handy but not Weighty
    By A15ZEIL6ELAXKK on 2007-06-01
I lost my original stylus and thought this replaces it because it is branded as a Palm product but it feels much lighter and doesn't have the nice weighty feel of the original. Don't know where you can get an original replacement? This works but doesn't feel the same. The pen function is handy though. It works, just doesn't have teh same quality feel of an original stylus.

  • Great price for replacement Stylus
    By A2QPRBDFOJ7A9W on 2007-08-27
Great product. I lost my stylus. These fit perfectly into my Palm TX's holder, and are identical to the original stylus except for the ballpoint pen inside. My wife replaced her original just to have the pen. I gave one to my brother to use on his GPS's touchscreen because some of the "buttons" are too small for accurate finger pointing. Now I'm out of spares so I'm buying a couple more sets to last the life of mine and my wife's Palms.

  • Good but not reliable
    By A224OKDBTUC41J on 2007-09-09
I have gotten this product twice, which should say something about its reliability. The idea of a stylus/pen combo that fits my E2 is terrific, and when I am out and about, it comes in handy. But at home and in the office, I have a stylus from an old style palm that I use. These are the reasons why:
    1. The screw-off tip of the stylus end comes loose always. Its rattling makes the whole device feel unstable.
    2. The pen works pretty well, but after using it several times, the "cap" tends to get loose, and I have lost more than one.
    3. And this is the biggest complaint I have: the rubber tip of the stylus pops off, usually without my knowledge, so I can't find it to put it back on. This makes that end of the device worthless, and I have to replace the whole stick. This is probably why they come in packages of 3, but it would be nice for it to last a lot longer than it does.

  • No Guilt in Losing These
    By A1ACZ3PO92E4AH on 2007-11-04
I too would gladly pay $20 for the same stylus that comes with the TX. Although a bulk pack of styli is great for those who are on their PDAs constantly and often misplace styli, I prefer the weight and sturdiness of the original. Since I've begun using one of these new ones I've noticed that the weight feels too light and that both the top and point of the stylus often come unscrewed, which is unnerving. I like the fact that I can lose any of the 3 and not feel bad, but I don't like the quality of these, so I'll keep my original stylus protected in a box and use these cheapy ones for now.

  • Palm Stylus
    By AXN2TZYC6LZYZ on 2007-01-10
It was really a good product, more than of what I'm expecting. Looks very elegant. It's a perfect design for my Palm.

  • Stylus
    By A154Z6GKV46ZJT on 2007-07-04
Thses are great except a little light in touch when playing games on my palm. They are very comfortable in my hand too.

  • Palm replacement stylus (s)
    By A2RTIN52Y53A11 on 2007-11-03
The item was shipped in a timely manner and was as described. It fit my Palm Tx perfectly, and now I have two back up's in case I lose another.

  • Definitely prefer my original stylus over these (TX).
    By A1YW5ZQBEIFN5Q on 2008-04-11
Thankfully I found my original TX stylus right after I ordered these. I didn't bother cancelling the order, because it's nice to know I have spares immediately should I lose my original again.

These things are very light compared to the original TX stylus, and writing with them is not nearly as comfortable as with the original. I never understood why you'd really need a pen in your Stylus, so this is worthless to me. I haven't had any problems with the tip coming loose, but I don't really use these that often. I can definitely see how they'd come loose when carried around. they are backup. I don't necessarily like them, but I'd deal in the event I lost the original for good.

Maybe I'm just spoiled because the original TX stylus is nice and weighty and solid feeling. I feel like I could easily just bend these between my 3 fingers if I felt like it. Cheezy. Seriously Palm, why can't you sell exactly what comes with your Palms instead of this half hearted attempt?

  • Palm Stylus 3-Pack (3178WW)
    By A2049E0SQ3C516 on 2008-07-06
I bought the palm stylus 3-pack as a replacement for the original Palm TX stylus. I was a little discouraged to buy this stylus pack because of the bad reviews associated with it. Inspite of the bad reviews, I bought this pack as it is original palm accessories. I was not dissappointed. The stylus pack is a solid product that is fun to use. I could not give it 5 out of 5 rating as it is lighter than the original stylus, but it is not so much annoying, sometimes I feel it could be more comofortable.

    Finally:

    Advantages:

1- Fitting into my Palm TX in a very nice way.
2- Helpful when you are in need of pen and there is no full sized pen around, but don't expect an pen that you can write a novel pen, it is just an emergency pen .
3- Easy to use as a stylus.

    Disadvantages:

The only disadvantage is that it is lighter than the original Palm Stylus but this was not affecting my normal use of this stylus.

    Finally:

The Product is highly recommended for Palm TX users.

  • Nice price and function
    By ATXL4ZIBT3Q8U on 2006-05-16
These stylus come with several end caps of different lengths in order to fit most new palm-pda. The pen works well, but since it's very light it feels strange to write with it. It does have a reset pin, but you have to un-screw the tip to find it. All-in-all a lot of stylus for the money.

  • Great price.
    By A180BFLABGLO47 on 2007-01-18
These are priced great and have a pen inside. Better than the stylus that came with my TX.

  • Nice stylus
    By A3SWS3XC6828NX on 2007-03-14
This is a very nice stylus, nice feel in the hand. The only problem I have found is that it sometimes falls out so you have to be careful. I never had that problem with the original stylus but it is still worth the price.

  • i like them
    By A1QCJOGQL05KRI on 2007-04-30
I really just wanted a supply of replacements for the stylus that came with my Palm TX but didn't see any on ebay. The only ones i could find were on the Palm site, but the price added up pretty high with shipping. I have Amazon Prime, so...especially after reading positive reviews here, i decided to go for it. I can't feel any difference between these stylii and the one that came with the Palm. There's a slight visual difference in shape on the writing end, but not noticeable or problematic to me. The pens write great. what more can i ask. It's nice to have the pens just in case one is needed. I would buy more of these, gladly.

  • Highly recommended.
    By A2TUPLNRVDE0P6 on 2007-05-13
The main problem with my Palm TX is the fact that I'm forever misplacing the stylus. I now have several on my workstation, they have built in pens as well.

  • Excellent replacement Product
    By A2143HQFPJNGP9 on 2007-05-16
This stylus is great. I had it after loosing my first one. I recommend this product, Because It is as accurate as the one offer with my Palm. This works great with a PALM TX.

  • Just great
    By A2VLTBQXGGO8O5 on 2007-05-29
I think I ruined my old Palm by tapping on the surface--without a protector--using ball point pens, paper clips, etc., etc. In the end, nothing registered. These styluses, used in combination with a good screen protector, make the process so easy. They are much better than the old hard-tipped stylus I had (and lost). These have a rubber tip that must be more gentle to the screen surface. Naturally, I like to have a small backup supply, because it's easy to lose them.

  • Nice Original one.
    By A2PL55CHHFIMP1 on 2007-11-04
This is as good as original that come with my for my Palm T/X works perfectly well. I do not have any issues as yet. Apart , I got them at quite reasonable price.
