Scorched after very few uses By A2SS2BGQU3EMNC on 2005-05-27
This mitt is good at insulating handles from heat... one can hold the skillet comfortably without feeling the heat. I don't think this thing can resist as high temperatures as stated on the product description because mine has already scorched at the edge where it comes in contact with the pan and as a result the fabric is fraying badly. I have never left the mitt in place while cooking, I have only used it to move the pan from the stove to the sink or to lift the pan to serve meals from it so I guess that the black fabric covering the outside of the mitt is not very heat-resistant.
Pretty darn good, still have to be a little careful By A2D6VOCNGBDVF3 on 2005-12-19
I got this and the Lodge 2 Piece Hot Handle Holder Set at the same time, and this product is a lot better. It's more substantial, thicker, and because it's thicker (although the same size) it fits the handle more snugly, therefore less slipping around.
It does tend to get warm if you leave the holder on the handle while cooking. I don't think that it will ever get hot enough to burn you, though. You should, at worst, feel a little discomfort, and you can just let go before it gets anywhere close to the burning point. I like to leave it on the iron skillets because it's so easy to just grip the iron handle without thinking about it. I didn't notice any searing of the material of this Mitt.
The problem is that if the holder gets wet, it becomes useless as a heat-resister. It doesn't happen often, but all it takes is a drop of water to burn you.
I would recommend the silicone based holders, like HotHandle™ Silicone Cookware Handle Holder that I also got at the same time that I got the Lodge mitt. And no, I'm not a sales rep for them. Even if they get wet, the water doesn't penetrate through the mitt, so you're safe. Actually, I wouldn't recommend this one - It's sold by Target, not Amazon, and it's a little bit too long for most Lodge handles.
Great idea!!! By A3QZGKIA90JYD0 on 2006-02-17
I really didn't know what to expect when I bought this product, but when I got it I liked it a lot. I can see where it might burn if left pushed all the way on the handle, but I just simply slide it back towards the end of the handle, leave it there, and when I need to move or lift the pan, just slide it back down all the way on. It works like a good quality pot holder, and is a bit non-skid so it tends to grip pretty good. It fits in the hand well, and works as designed. Convenient to use with cast iron since the heat travels up the handles well, and you always need a pot holder or rag to keep from burning your hands. This is a well made product that works as intended. I'm glad I bought it.
great insulation, oversize for lodge handles By A2H8QIVNZNJA5E on 2005-02-16
Item is great at a great price, cannot feel the heat even at 450F. It is thick and sligtly loose so one has to grip it with extra force to prevent heavy skillets from slipping.
Good mitt By A2I7XR3VHC94AT on 2007-02-27
Fits perfectly over my cast iron skillet handles, and I can keep it on even while cooking. One word of caution, however, this thing is worthless when wet. If it gets wet it will conduct heat and burn you. (But, really, this is just a matter of physics and any cloth-based mitt will behave the same way).
- Saved my fingers !
     By A19P9AJYJF9Y3O on 2005-07-23
I wondered when I ordered this what on earth I'd ordered but after almost burning the tips of my fingers off last week now I know. It slipped over the handle of my Lodge skillet just perfectly and saved my hand from a major burn !

I got a set of two each for my mom and I. We purchased the cook's essential skillets from a shopping network. The skillets have a stainless steel handle (for use in the oven) and these handle mitts are perfect!! No more singed hands or fingers. I am ordering more they are so WONDERFUL!!
- more more

- Can you put a penny next to every picture, Amazon?
     By A19XRLSMBMT2TH on 2008-05-08
So, this is hilarious. I ordered this handle mitt thinking it was a regular sized oven mitt. When it arrived in the mail, I thought Amazon made some sort of mistake. I mean, I could only get two fingers inside this thing. I actually, for a second, considered trying to use it as an oven mitt--"Maybe I can just buy six more..." Anyways, it'd be awesome if Amazon had a picture of a penny or a regular-sized oven mitt next to every picture so us uncareful readers could get a sense of scale.
P.S. Does anyone want to buy a mini oven mitt for their kid/pet?
- Perfect for Pro-Logic pans
     By AXNZZY4X3CRA9 on 2007-10-02
If you have the Pro-Logic pans with the flat curved handle, this will fit perfectly. It works well on the regular handles too, but has a looser fit. It does what it's supposed to do. I've left it on the handle for the entire cooking process, at medium heat, and it still permits you to lift the pan by the handle.
- A little loose
     By AUGTFOAGSFND2 on 2007-10-24
I bought this for my 12 inch lodge logic cast iron pan. It does not fit very well and I am not able to get a good grip on the pan when I lift it.
- Iron pan handle mitt cover
     By AVDTTR1GQ7XWK on 2008-01-12
What can I say, slide it on handle and it protects your hand from heat.
I don't put it on handle until I am ready to lift pan. works good.
recommend for cast iron pans.
- Not a glove
     By APDJC4OH4L8Q0 on 2008-02-06
I had assumed this was an mitt that fits over the hand. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be 1x4". There is no description of this item in the ad, size or otherwise. I spent $10 for two figuring one for each hand, way too much money for what I recieved.
- Too small to use
     By A3DPWW2Z09KFKL on 2008-07-07
Maybe I don't know how to use these mitts, but they are tiny--too small to put your hands inside and too small to wrap around the handle to use. I don't understand their use. I unwrapped them before really looking at them or I would have returned them.
- Works great
     By A1PNQZI7NKZ7J8 on 2007-08-04
I feel no heat through this when I use it. I leave it on while I'm cooking on the stove top so I don't accidentally grab the horribly hot handle, and this thing is cool as a cucumber. I have several and love them! I have not tested the cheaper ones in the two pack, but these are reasonably priced.
- Handle Mitt
     By A27W9UU02603J3 on 2007-08-07
I kept forgetting my potholder and am always grabbing the handle on my iron skillet while cooking. This works out great for me. I can leave this on while cooking and not have to worry about burning my hand while cooking with my iron skillets.
- handle mitt
     By A2FJWKXKOKW9TG on 2007-10-31
It is black, resists heat well, and matches the cast iron skillets. I advise using with caution, because if you lose your grip while moving the skillet, it could slide right out the handle mitt and land on your toes.
- Good - But Can Scorch Easily
     By AEZCPBY1ZREIM on 2007-11-16
Fits nicely, insulates well. But, as reported by others here, it can scorch very easily. I didn't leave it on the pan when cooking, either. I'm still not sure if it started smoking because of the heat coming from the gas flame (using a small 9" cast iron skillet) or if it made contact with the side of the pan. Regardless, just be careful. Very pleased with it, now that I know its limitations!
- Just as advertised
     By A1YEV35NBFO4RT on 2007-11-25
I probably read way too many reviews for a $5 product but they were mostly spot on. It fits the handle of the Lodge skillet well, but the handle itself is often too stubby for lifting heavy amounts of food. You will still need another towel or pad for the handle on top of the skillet as one-handed pouring or moving is often difficult even if you have strong arms. It doesn't work well when wet, something that others have pointed out, but overall is well worth the small amount of money.
- Lodge Max Temp Handle Mitt
     By AF9C4F26JMN36 on 2008-01-07
This is perfect for holding the handle. I take it off when I rinse the skillet so it doesn't get wet, then replace it on the handle to store the skillet. Love it!!
- Very cute...like an oven mitt for kittens [UPDATE]
     By A2YGAIZO9C2BTH on 2008-01-07
This thing is very small. The picture kind of threw me off. It looked like it was going to work nicely, but my wife threw it out by accident before I got a chance to use it. Would probably have prevented me from grabbing the handle with my bare hand this past weekend. Thanks a lot honey.
UPDATE - I found it and have used it several times - works great. recommended.
- Perfect Fit
     By APU7YT7IBAR1H on 2008-01-24
Bought to accompany a Lodge 12" Pro-Logic, it fits perfectly, doesn't slide about too much and stays reasonable cool even if left on while cooking. (Although it WILL warm up after a while.) Good product, a must for a new skillet.
- The Lodge Max Mitt simply works great!
     By A1LG78X343YGRI on 2008-02-08
I don't know how hot some of these people have their cast-iron cookware up to, but you have to have the thing glowing in order for you to burn yourself using this mitt. I've had no problems at all -- The mitt works like a charm!
- This Mitt really saves burnt hands
     By A3573X5TK7I2U on 2008-02-13
I cook with a lot of cast iron skillets and when using a one handled pan, this mitt is perfect, will be ordering more for sure!
- Does its job
     By A1U8OR138UP78H on 2008-03-02
This mit although small does what it was designed for. It does keep the heat off of the handle of my cast iron grill pan. It's also easy to clean, just throw it in w/ your kitchen towels. It's a good buy.

These mits are a great ideal. I had to have them! I ordered the mits along with two more items, each item arrived at different times, but the mits never came. I called amazon's customer service and they were great! The mits were reordered and arrived a few dys later! Thanks Amazon for such quick response!
- Simple and it works
     By A29NV2YITU0EJK on 2008-04-05
What's to review on a tiny little handle cover/pot holder? It works when you put it over the handle. It keeps you from burning your hand. Fits the griddle and does what it is supposed to do.
- Skillet Handle Cover
     By AF7ABBYWNV1AY on 2008-04-07
I bought this without reading the measurement. I thought it was an oven mitt that goes over your hand. This goes over the handle on the cast iron skillet. That is better, it can stay on all the time, and anyway you can buy an oven mitt anywhere.
- Great mitt!
     By A1SFKURHT4I9NI on 2008-04-10
Can't imagine myself saying, "Great mitt,' without talking about a baseball glove. But this thing works pretty well, although I'm sure one day I'll forget to slip it on the handle and I'll burn my hand. One quality issue: when I clipped off the Lodge tags, the plastic dealie left a hole in the mitt, and now fuzz from inside is coming out of it.
- Basic, necessary pot handle.
     By A3W0LG5HQL2QPT on 2008-04-23
This pot handle is pretty basic, but the quality is fine and it does the job.
