CAN NOT BE USED as alternative for USB flash drive if you are using an SD card By A1FT6MICEVFPWJ on 2006-03-09
Like one user said earlier, THE SD card slot is on the side, and MOST of the SD card will stick out when you plug it in.
so You can NOT just plug the SD card, and leave it there, and use this card reader as usb flash drive, IT WONT WORK. (u can not carry it out with you with the SD card sitcking on the side).
However, using it as card reader (which is how it is intended to be used), it works perfect for me. I use it with my Patriot 2G 133X SD card, and it works flawlessly.
Not a good product By ADUHDNN5MS4KR on 2005-09-07
Sandisk usually makes good stuff but the MobileMate SD+ doesn't fall into that category. After using it with a TransFlash card no more than 12 times the unit would not recognize the card without constant pressure on it - presumably to make proper contact inside the unit. Needless to say this is unacceptable so now I am off to find another reader for my TransFlash cards. I was skeptical of this before I even bought it and now I know why - I like to stick with PCMCIA card readers for my laptop and will be looking for one of those now.
Mediocre product, but gets the job done. By A3U41ZL33SS92P on 2006-10-10
I bought this a few weeks ago to transfer things between my SD cards, Treo 650, and MacBook Pro. I found out recently that it also fits in the front USB ports on my Xbox 360, so that's kind of cool too.
It works pretty well, though the rubber slot protector is pretty worthless. I'm sure it will fall off in the near future, from keeping this reader in my pocket.
Sure, it has some design flaws (as others have already pointed out), but it does what it's supposed to do. For what it costs, though, it isn't any better or worse than other items in the same price range.
Works well By A3OA8R6RXHZ3C6 on 2005-03-14
This thing works great. It reads and writes quickly to SD cards. I had some trouble getting a Windows XP and Mac OS X computers to write to my SD card (kept complaining about being write-protected), but this was resolved by inserting the SD card not quite all the way. I have not tried the MobileMate with a Multimedia card. My major complaint is that the cover for the card slots is not permanently attached. If one attempts to swing it out of the way to insert a card, it falls off. A drop of Super Glue was a quick and permantent fix. Another complaint is that this tiny thing is power hungry. It must be attached directly into a computer's USB port. It over powers any USB hub - even the USB hub in a Mac keyboard.
Works like a dream and a great price!! By A12IYXH4GTXKAA on 2006-03-20
Can't go wrong with this one. It reads MiniSD cards without using the adapter. Previous reviews are correct to say that it can't be used as a jump/flash drive with the card inserted as the card makes it stick out like a sore thumb.
I bought this in conjunction with a 1gb MiniSD for my Verizon Wireless LG9800 cell phone and I use it to watch videos and listen to mp3's. It's as quick as using the phone's internal memory. Used a 'regular' SD card that I use for my camera and PDA, and it's nearly as fast as moving files to and from another hard drive. Using this reader is faster than using each device directly to transfer files!
It comes with a handy 6" USB cable that lets you fit the adapter into tight spots. The whole end of the device lights up when it's plugged into your computer. I'm very satisfied with the performance of this item!
- Falls short
     By A39T0UI3LF4B88 on 2005-12-07
Elegant design, poor execution. I like the form factor of this multi-flash reader, and the fact that they included two caps, one with a connection for a strap. However, it falls short because of trouble writing to SD cards. Since day 1, it has intermittently given me some trouble. It normally refuses to write to a non-write-protected SD card if the card is seated all the way in. I have to wiggle it out a half millimeter or so to make it work. Have had no problem with my 16MB and 32MB MMC cards, but I only use them when I need to transfer data and this reader is refusing to work properly. Have had no problems with a new Mini-SD card. I have not tried it with RS-MMC or TransFlash.
- Easy
     By A34UVV757IKPVB on 2007-03-16
How can you go wrong? Easy, cheap, it works. Well, that's pretty much it. Got a memory card or 2? Wanna plug that baby into your laptop? This is what you need! It works. What more can you say? There's not much to it. It's an adapter. It doesn't grant wishes or taste like Pop-Tarts so, really there's not much more to say about it.
- Why have a jump drive?
     By A172ZOU09VRN9O on 2005-09-14
This MobileReader eliminates the need for a USB jump drive - just use the flashcard from your phone, pocketPC, or etc. It also saves a bunch of time over using ActiveSync to transfer data to your PocketPC's flashcard or to download you vacation photos from your camara. Very handy and easily a must-have for the price.
- Nice & compact
     By AXURUQUQ5U5RW on 2005-10-19
Works well except mini SD is hard to put in. Just used the SD adapter that came with the mini SD Card & it worked fine. I'm very happy with it. Makes it easy to move data back & forth from my computer to my LG VX8100 phone.
- Poorly Designed
     By AJUAW8KR4226V on 2006-03-11
I bought this thinking that some how the entire SD/MMC card would completely fit into the device therefore making it like a flash drive where I can upgrade the memory as larger capacity cards become available. I was wrong. The card sticks halfway out of the drive at a right angle making impossible to slip into vertically positioned USB ports without the extender cable.
Furthermore the rubber slot cover is useless. To insert the card you need to bend back the rubber slot cover which doesn't hinge back. It just bends back. Of course if you leave card in the drive for any decent length of time, the cover will "remember" being bent back and basically stay bent. You'll never have it seal the card slots securely again. Ultimately, I regret getting this. Sure it's small, but if you're looking for a USB thumb drive substitute don't get this. You're better off just getting a drive with built in memory where you can stick it into the port without suffering 2-3 more steps or an awkwardly shaped flash drive wannabe.
- BEWARE: The Product Description is Misleading
     By A2N0AYCJT8N6H6 on 2007-04-21
The Product Description for the SanDisk SDDR-103 MobileMate SD+ 5-in-1 Reader is misleading! It implies that this reader can use SD, miniSD, MultiMediaCard, RS-MMC, TransFlash, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo, Memory Stick PRO, and Memory Stick PRO Duo cards. This is incorrect.
The MobileMate SD+ SDDR-103 can read SD, SDHC, miniSD, miniSDHC, microSD, microSDHC/TransFlash, MultiMediaCard, MMCplus, MMCmobile, RS-MMC, and RS-MMC Dual Voltage. However it does NOT read Memory Stick.
The MobileMate MS+ SDDR-107 can read Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo, and Memory Stick PRO Duo.
I need to read a Memory Stick PRO Duo card and mistakenly bought the SDDR-103 based on this product description. I don't know how the SDDR-103 performs because I can't use it. But I gave it one star to get your attention. If you are reading this review then maybe you won't make the same mistake that I did.

This is a very easy to use device which is much better than hooking up the camera to download the photos. Glad I got it!
- Take your chances - very unreliable for me
     By A26HUPN2WZLX8I on 2006-04-17
I was hoping to do away with my USB drive and have a single media for my camera, PDA, and laptops. I have tried several laptops and none recognized the adapter (actually they do, they just don't see the media). I even tried it on my Linux laptop and no luck either.
I have read other reviewers praising this product. Believe me, I was rooting for it. However, this was a terrible dissapointment.
- RE: Good little card reader
     By A2UM83YH40CQHG on 2006-07-05
My friend and I have camera phones that came with a really small micro SD card (64MB :-( This little card reader is a quick way to transfer pictures and video off the phone and upload to e-mail. We tried using the internet connection on the phone and using the phone as a USB modem - if you're used to cable ot T1 speeds, its not appealing at all to use the phone connection. The SanDisk Mobilemate offers an affordable and compact solution to the file transfer problem.
- Great for saving battery power and very convienent.
     By A2R9Z9CLLE4MPA on 2006-02-27
For the money, $15.99, this device is so nice. I can just drag and drop my photos into the folders of my choice. No camera software automatically starts running like it would when I would plug the camera into my USB port directly. I have a Canon SD550 and I couldn't figure out how to stop the automatic transfer of photos when I plugged the camera into my computer. It also needed the camera powered on during the transfer, draining the battery. I would highly recommend this little "toy". It's powered by the USB port on the computer and you can put your stuff where you want it !!!
- Unreliable, doesn't work at all now
     By AZNG24H0G1JYL on 2006-06-03
I bought this device about two or three weeks ago and have used it maybe 10 times. Now it hardly works if at all anymore. I've erased the registry entry like the support site suggests although it worked briefly after, now it's gone back to not working at all.
Took it to a friend's PC and it didn't work on his either, although his Windows 2000 seemed to fix it after messing around with it.
I'm going to return this as soon as possible. Very disappointed as I use a lot of other Sandisk products and have had no problems with them.
- Fantastic
     By A2P8PIJ9JLZ1D on 2006-07-01
Works great.. Use is with Mac OSX 10.4.7 and works like a dream.. LOVE IT..
- Didn't work!
     By A2RSQ8QIUPZYB1 on 2006-07-25
The computer sees the unit, but the unit doesn't see the Mini SD card, so the computer asks me to "please insert disk". Tried putting in the Mini SD every way possible, but it doesn't work!
- A very handy adapter
     By A3788Q83ABJHFS on 2007-02-15
I must say, I can't live without this adapter. Since both of my phones take MicroSD/Transflash cards now, I am constantly needing to transfer files between my laptop, my phones, and my PC. This does the trick with flying colors. It is about 5 times faster than transferring the files from my phone using a USB data cable. It doesn't need any drivers installed and is plug and play on both my Windows XP and Windows 2000 computers with absolutely no problems. This is a must have accessory!
- does not work for mmc cards
     By A3P0FU1JZTB10V on 2005-01-17
i bought this item hoping to transfer the pictures off on my nokia 3650, but alas the thing does not work. do not buy this reader if you have mmc it soes not resd it. windows kept saying that i did not have a 2.0 usb port for it to run off of, which is crap i have four.
- It does what it was desinged for.
     By A280OCRWM50U5G on 2006-03-14
I bought this to go with the transflash card for my cell phone. Works great..I can easily and quickly load/unload pics and mp3's and other files to and from my transflash. At work I can plug it in directly, at home I have to use the included short adaptor cable for the USB connection. Since it is a card reader, it is not meant to be used as a true thumb or jump drive. Stick your card in, transfer your files, and unplug it. I can see if you leave it sitting there for an extended period of time with the cards in it, the rubber cover will stop closing well or at all.
I've had no problems with my card sticking, falling out, not reading. I'm very happy with it.
- Take It With You
     By A2MHY04JJSWE7U on 2006-03-21
This is the most convenient way to read your SD card [or the others, I suppose]. Rather than carrying cables, I slip this little mate into my brief case ... it is great.
- SD on the go
     By A1ZRJ3AIP3URN7 on 2006-11-15
This is a great product for those who need to transfer files from a digital camera without the hasle of software. Its easy and quick. I use it every chance i get, and it fits in your pocket, what more can you ask for :)
- Quick and Easy To Use
     By A440JI9ZQTKFT on 2007-05-15
I really love using this product. It is small so I can take it anywhere, and it is very easy to use; no software to download at all! I don't own my own computer, so it has made sharing photos much easier (I don't have to bother with connecting my camera to a computer via cables and cords). I strongly recommend this item to anyone who likes to share photos and doesn't like to lug around a lot of accessories and equipment.
- amazing
     By A2DF892EK1BWSI on 2005-09-04
It's very handy. Using the camera and cables to transfer pictures to PC is such a hassle. This is a very convenient and efficient device for camera freaks.

I took it out of the package and in minutes had transferred files from my pc to the flash card for my phone.
- Works great

- Massive Memory For a Great Price
     By A2BMHPIAWXSGBJ on 2006-08-30
This tiny piece of plastic with metal contacts packs more whallop than you could imagine. Sure, memory geeks like me may find little things like this more awe-inspiring than the next...but practically speaking it is good for more than just the techno geek. What this large amount of memory provides is a way to store tons of pictures, movies, ringtones, etc. over a long period of time...and then you can "dump" it onto your computer. The other thing you can do with it is store a lot of music to play on your phone...
- SanDisk SDDR-103 MobileMate - good luck
     By A2ARE3W36LIYZA on 2006-11-06
The reader didn't read my 2G MiniSD. I have another reader that does so I dumped the MobileMate and took the lost.
- About This Thing
     By A196JCFWRL67MR on 2006-11-10
This product is not for the heavy handed
after 2 weeks of use one of the slots was non functional because spring leaf to hold the card against the contacts some how managed to get bent into the path of the card, and seeing that the slot is for a flash card it is almost impossible to get any tool to fit to do any 'repairs'.
on the bright side it did work with the stated flash types.
