Excellent, when it works By A25W5Q2RSMB841 on 2007-01-18
This headset has a good sound and, because they are lighter than other similar headsets and they have very soft cushioned ear pads, they are extremely comfortable to wear. I have also been extremely pleased with the quality of the sound recorded from the microphone. I've used this headset for voice-over recordings, online gaming, and talking on Skype, and I've been thrilled with the quality. I've recommended this set to numerous friends and family members because of the high quality combined with the low price. However, although this set has a good sound and records very well, this set won't last very long. I bought my headset about a year ago, and it has worked splendidly for the last year. But, today I was using it to record some audio for a project and it crapped out on me. The earphones still sound fantastic, but the microphone no longer works. However, because of the cheap price and great quality, I've decided to purchase another set. Some people have reported sound problems, which also happened to my sister. I suspect that problem might be related to the long cord. The cord on this headset is about six feet long, which is great for an extended reach, but bad because it means there's a bigger chance that you're going to roll over the cord with your chair or snag it on something and yank it off your head (I believe my sister did that, which damaged the headset). So, if you're careful you may be able to avoid that problem. In my case, the mic stopped working, so I assume that the wires in the positionable microphone have become frayed or loose. Although I'd expect that to happen over time, I do not expect that to happen in just a year. However, this headset is so cheap and the quality of the sound is so good, I'm still going to purchase another set. The bottom line with this set: Fantastic sound reproduction and recording capabilities from a cheap-as-dirt headset, but you pay for that in shortened lifespan.
These Stink!!! By A2WDWX7MA81ZWS on 2006-10-29
I am on my second time around with these headsets. The first set I lost sound in my left ear, and because I loved the comfort and sound quality (I thought it may have been a fluke)I bought another set. BIG MISTAKE!! They also lasted less than a year, and I lost sound in the right ear. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!
Nice Sound Good Price By A230L0WI75QQOF on 2007-09-20
I decided to give the Plantroincs Gamecom 1 PC headset a try for a few reasons:
1. Good luck with other Plantronics products in the past
2. Reports of Comfort
I'm happy to say that so far they have lived up to expectations. Good quality sound and the foam pads are much more comfortable than the faux leatherette pads found on products like logitech. I can wear these comfortably for hours even though I wear glasses. Highly recommended.
Excellent purchase By ARG7S3967QD84 on 2007-09-12
Purchased these from an Amazon partner company for less than $12 refurbished, but I believe it was just an "open box" set. I've been using them to play online for about a month now and am completely satisfied.
I trashed a set of Altec Lansing AHS615 because the inner speaker sat on my ear along with the surrounding support cushion - after a couple of hours my ears started to hurt.
I can wear the Gamecom models all day without a problem and, based upon other reviews, think they may be one of the best on the market. They're also very light in weight.
Sound quality is great, decent bass and high-to-mid frequency output levels - all are mixed very well.
Overall I would recommend these to anyone looking for a nice headset/mic combo that provides quality performance without being overpriced.
Works great...for a year By A2VFLIOFRDIWNL on 2006-10-02
Well, it was a great buy for the first year. After that it started loosing sound in the right ear. I figured I could live with that. Now it looses sound in both ears on and off. I go from sound to nothing to one ear all the time. It is the most annoying thing I have ever experienced. Buy a better headset and don't spend the money twice.
- Two dead headsets in six months (updated!)
     By A2WE0HN92S08ZM on 2007-05-26
This is a comfortable headset and it sounds great for voice chat, but I've gone through two of them in the last six months. The first, purchased about five months ago, lost sound on the right side about two months ago. The second, which was purchased immediately afterwards, lost sound on the left side less than an hour ago.
Were it not for the repeated failures, this headset would get four stars from me.
UPDATE: It's been about eight months since I wrote this review, and the replacement I received from Amazon for the second dead headset has now lost sound on its right side. Stay away from this headset!
- Affordable, comfortable, total immersion.
     By ALDYVPJB1J69N on 2007-08-10
I got these headphones based on reviews i've read other places. I got them for under 20 dollars shipped and recieved them about a week later. They are very comfy and highly adjustable to fit anyones head (in fact my tower pc wears them when i am not)
I play a lot of battlefield 2 and other online games. Before the headphones i was a marginal player, but with the headphones and the built in mic, you have total immersion into the game. You can hear enemies approaching from further away that you couldnt hear before, not to mention that i hear ambient sound effects from the game that i didn't know existed. There have been times i have heard things to think that it was something in my room and it turned out to be the headphones. the sound is Excellent and i would reccommend them to anyone who plays games online. The mic is great and works well, it even folds up out of the way when you aren't using it. The bass is FANTASTIC and it makes explosions feel very loud and rumbley in your whole body it seems like.
The cord is about 10 feet long and although it is very thin and would probably break easy, i am not rough on my equipment. I think it will last long enough to get WELL over my 20 dollars worth. It also has a built in mic and volume control as well as a mic mute button in the cord. this comes in handy when you arent using the mic or when you want to mute your cursing when you get killed ;-)
Bottom line... if you play games online, get these. If you play games by yourself but want to crank the volume and play loud at night, get these. If you just want to hear the games the way they are supposed to sound, get them. I will get another set of these if they break.
Also, music is not bad, considering the price. Although there are sets that are better for music, these headphones do it all and very well. Cannot go wrong!
- Just love this item
     By A2IHFBO375RK9O on 2007-10-19
I sing on a voice enabled chat room - not a gamer - and This is the best headset I have found. Noise canceling is outstanding - voice quality evokes remarks and inquiries very often.
- A Great Product - While it works!
     By A1KX9668CDCCHA on 2006-09-19
I've owned 2 of these headsets... and none of them have lasted me more than a year. They fit my head well, and are comfortable for long sitting, but require delicate handling. I kept buying these headsets because they worked so well, but I think I'm going to try logitech after this. The first headset I had, the cord got yanked out of the headset. The second one still works, but doesn't have sound in the right speaker, which makes it very hard for FPSes. Overall, it's a good headset if you take care of it and don't abuse it.
- a great value
     By A18OL1IJXGFF94 on 2007-05-14
I have had a Plantronics DSP-500 (since discontinued I think and replaced by the GamePro 1) for several years, it has been great. When I saw the price for this one I bought it for my wife so we could use Google Talk. I was able to talk to her for free over the Internet from on the opposite side of the Earth and the voice quality was excellent. The headset itself is essentially the same as the more expensive Gamepro. The difference is that the higher-end models plug into a USB port and can be adjusted as a separate sound device on Windows or via a control on the cord, that is very handy. This headphone plugs into the sound card in your computer and it is more of a hassle to adjust. I wound up buying a little USB converter which accomplishes the same thing.
The cord is long, you DO NOT want to roll over it with your chair or you may easily sever the internal wiring. I have done this with two other previous headsets. Tape the cord to your desk and run it in such a way as to eliminate that possibility.
- Cheapo!!!
     By A1HCJHULV5F8UA on 2007-09-05
I'm thinking of sending this junk back. I will if I can't figure a way to keep them on my head. The tension bar across the head, isn't strong enough to apply any pressure to hold them to your head. If you move your head fast, they will almost fall off. I will buy no more of this brand.
- Save yourself and pass on this model.
     By A1TR1TBPEW9LSQ on 2008-01-26
The cheap price is the get what you pay for deal. I had a pair of these when they originally came out, and they lasted awhile but the cords have very thin insulation and that tore and broke the wire rendering them useless. A year later I bought another pair from amazon and the audio quality was terrible, not sure if they sounded like that the first time around. I had them a month and the cord got a cut in it again so in the trash they went. I tried to repair them the first time it happened but had no luck. This is also my 4th plantronics headset. The other two laster longer but the same thing happened to the cord. The first set was $110 and the the clip for the volume and mic controls actually broke the wires. So now i tend to stay away from plantronics. YMMV
- Very Good Headset
     By ANLD3P4XEGI0A on 2007-01-09
This headset is just great! it feels soft and very comfortable. Always the best quality from plantronics.
- High quality as usual
     By AZ49SUYYQKJND on 2008-02-08
This is the second Plantronics headset I've used, and as usual the audio quality is excellent. The earphones are comfortable, although they don't fully enclose the ear. I use this product everyday for VoIP chatting and gaming, and so far it's served me well.
- Not bad.
     By ACYG5MNACHIRB on 2008-04-28
For the price, it is very good quality. If you are really into gaming, I recommend getting one of Plantronics top-of-the-line headsets. Also, I recommend getting one with a USB.
- Best Headset I've ever used!!
     By A3FMBG22UT88BN on 2008-09-01
I was concerned as any buyer to the claims about comfort and performance. Except for just having bought it, and not being able to vouch for the claim of another reveiwer that this product will likely run out in a year, it fully meets and to my surprise, I would say, exceeds the claims I read from other reviews here on Amazon. I would easily say this is the best you could buy for comfort and price without forgetting the quality one would hope for in a simple headset. I haven't yet tried the mic for online chatting yet, but I doubt there will be a problem. Simply put, if you can accept the testimony of a concerned buyer who HATES being scammed or tricked into buying something, I would say go for it. This will no doubt be worth it even if it breaks in a year. ...Hope this helps! 8D
- Not a single complaint..!
     By A2FUPOCTSGYW1Y on 2007-07-28
My girlfriend has been using these since we bought them and she loves them, never complained abotu them once.
- Great headphones for a Great price!
     By A2OPFMU0I3V8LP on 2007-11-11
Very comfortable, i can wear for hours on end and they don't bother my ears. I have a $200 pc stereo system and these seem to give me better "surround sound" than my expensive stereo. I don't have a sound card but they sound great!
- Headset
     By AAR0SVPLEEYAS on 2007-12-01
This headset was alright. It's really light, I like how the colors isn't a plain black. But like all headsets, the more you tug at the cord, the more likely one side of your headset would die out. But other than that, this headset was decent for it's price.
- Gamecm 1 headset
     By A1DSWBW2ZVW25C on 2008-01-19
These is a great headset. It does a good job of blocking outside noise. The sound quality is great. The mic is flawless. I have nothing but good things to say about this product
- good for the price
     By A1QFWOB4YE484H on 2008-02-06
this is a good headset for the price, however it has a few negatives.
the overall weight of the headset is a little much ... if i were to tilt my head forward or backward it could easily begin to slide off.
the microphone quality is only as good as those other cheap computer mics you can get at wal-mart ... but what do you expect?
the sound quality is middling - not very bassy, but it could have something to do with the thick earpads which put lots of space between your ear and the speaker.
the headset is very comfortable though. the lower top bar going over the head is made of rubber (more comfortable than plastic) and not permanently attached to the sides, so it can come off, which is annoying. i haven't figured out why someone would want to take it off.
The mic boom is extendable and bendable, which is nice. It can also rotate upward while not in use.
- Decent for the price
     By A1NJIG00VCYM67 on 2008-07-05
There is nothing outstanding about the headset. There is nothing substandard about them either. For the price, I paid 19.99. I'd say it is a good value.
It is perfect for voice over I.P. I Skype. I also audio/video blog. The mic is adequate. It sounds a little tiny but I does the job. The headphones, again, are adequate. It is what I expect for the price.
If you are a casual user, they are a good deal.
- good headset
     By A2B0RJBZJ8CBAM on 2008-07-29
well i ordered this headset because my fiance always forgets to get one. Now that hes using it, it's great.. clear reception and comfortable to use. I recommend this one.
- Good for the money
     By AD7VU3JYNRPZ8 on 2008-09-23
This headset is excellent quality, especially if you aren't willing to sink $100 on a gameing headset. I bought two, which was convient since my dog ate through the cord on the first pair. My husband has had a pair of these same headsets for atleast 3 years, and he had the same brand before that. The first pair he had did just stop working out of the blue one day, but he had them for 3 or 4 years. It's still better to buy a new pair of $20 ones every 3 years instead of purchasing the $100 version.
- GamePro 1 from Plantronics
     By A1M3R9Q45VK017 on 2008-10-14
Poor workmanship! They work great but I've yet to get the full year warranty offered by Plantronics. The wires must be very thin as they break very easily causing the loss of the earphone, microphone or both. I'll look for a alternative next time!
- Amazing
     By A3OWAUQQJ4JQU5 on 2008-10-15
I have used many a pair of headphones and these are not only the most comfortable but the most reliable after many (and i mean MANY) hours of consecutive gameplay. All around, these headphones are fantastic.
- Perfect for World of Warcraft!
     By A23K81INPP3IIB on 2008-10-17
I bought two of these headsets, one for myself and one for a friend, after reading some nightmare reviews about comfort and quality in other brands. So far we have used them every night for 2 weeks and they have been perfect. We play World of Warcraft together using the Teamspeak program and they are comfortable and do exactly what I needed them to. The sound quality is fine and the mics are pretty good too not to mention I can wear them for hours on end and not have any problems with my ears getting sore. The mic is adjustable if you are worried about the darth vader effect. Might not be as high quality as some other brands out there but for 20 bucks they definitely get the job done. If something goes wrong, rest assured that I would purchase this model again or at least an upgrade from the same company.
- Good price, good quality, and comfortable.
     By A3QEIPJMT9ISQ on 2008-11-04
This is the second set we own. First set had the wires sucked up by the vacuum and stopped working. They are comfortable with good sound, and we haven't had any other problems with them. We have a mac which requires USB, so we found a USB hub that converted it over to USB. After we got the second set, I took the first set apart and the wires broke free of the little circuit board in the volume control, so I soldered those back on and it's working again. We use them for an online class and a little gaming. I would buy these again, and I think they are the best headphones you can get for $20.
- Great comfort, great quality, and an even better price!
     By AEZW4YJPC2PDJ on 2008-11-08
Before I had purchased the GAMECOM headset, I had been using a cheap logitech headset, but I hated it because the backstrap was annoying, and it cut into my ears really bad. This headset doesn't bother my ears at all, its very comfortable. The mic quality is very good, I use it with Ventrilo and it works greak. The wind screen on the mic is a nice feature as well, it helps to block out other sounds besides your voice, such as your keyboard. The mike boom allows you to fold it all the way up so it aligns with the strap that goes around the top of your head, putting it out of your way which is really an awesome feature, especially if you just want to take a break from gaming or whatever and listen to some music.
What REALLY surprised me when I plugged in this headset was the sound quality, if you play any of the battlefield or call of duty games, and you have a decent sound card, this headset will put you right in the middle of the battle, and this headset is just as awesome for listening to some music. It has some really great low end sounds which makes it even more enjoyable sniping people in CoD4 with your .50 cal.
Summary : Get this headset, you cannot beat all of these awesome features that you would expect from an expensive headset for just a low price. I really do not understand why some people gave this product a one star rating, maybe they got a faulty product or something, but mine worked really great.
- Comfort and Bass Response vs Quality
     By A2ZS34QB2U46D5 on 2008-11-19
The comfort of this set for long periods of time is worth the shoddy craftsmanship.
The bass response is very good for the price of this pair.
They don't last long, a shorted wire will come about sooner or later, and most likely sooner. This pair wont last more than a year, and most likely only about 6 months.
I'm buying another set right now because my current one is shorted out on one side and I really can't wear anything else. Why companies decide to use vinyl instead of cloth for the ear pieces is beyond me.
Even when purchasing a $60-$100 pair of headphones, I encounter a shorted wire sooner or later.
