  • Excellent for small, enclosed

    By A1NBLOZ2PZZYJV on 2005-02-18
    Pros:
    Small footprint
Heating element well hidden inside the machine
    Redundant safety features
    Relatively quiet
    Competitively priced

    Cons:
Thermostat is not as accurate as I like
Not good for "spot" heating, like warming up just the rocking chair area when watching TV.

This heater suits best for heating up small, enclosed spaces (about 14x14sq.ft.). I use it in my bedroom and the result is great.

The air outlet velocity is low and non vectorized by design. It relies on low velocity, de-facto free, convection as a prime source of heat transfer. This mode of heating carries an advantage for not drying skin (Example, a typical hot-air blowing heater acts like a hair dryer!), and heat very evenly within a small area. Thus make this a bad choice for "spot" heating.

Advice the last person who gave this machine a bad rating. You are like complaining about a Toyota Corolla not able to reach 200mph. Please spend some money to insulate the place and buy a bigger heater, or two for your application.

The unit was solidly built, has overheat and tip-over sensor, and the heating element was located in a remote location and it's impossible to touch. Therefore, it scores really high on safety. However, please use common sense when using this unit (keep the unit away from small children, moisture, water, drapery...)

The unit uses a "Mechanical" thermostat and it does not control the room's temperature very well. It would be better for Honeywell to change it to a digital thermostat.

Conclusion: Use it for what it's best for (small, enclosed space or 14x14 sq.ft.), and you will not be dissappointed.

  • Does what I need it to

    By A2BTBAAQ6EQESL on 2006-04-02
This little unit works very well in my bedroom and heats up very quickly just on the low setting. In the living room I've used it on the high setting and it also works pretty quickly. I use this unit when I am the only one who is cold and don't want to use the central heat. I really like the option to use 360/ front function and the thermostat capability. As per the directions, you turn on the unit with the thermostat on full heat and when the temperature is as hot as you want you slowly turn it down until the unit clicks off. Then it will automatically shut on and off to keep that temperature. My only complaint, which is why I didn't rate the unit 5 stars, is that it is too noisy for me. I mostly wanted this unit for nighttime use and when the unit clicks on and off it wakes me up.

  • Quick, Hot, and Safe

    By A2OCEWSNGZNSUH on 2007-02-01
I plugged this in yesterday for the first time. It seems very safe. The ON nob has a childproof turn system. At the hottest temperatures I can still pick the heater up by the metal grate. Most impressive is how fast it heats up. As soon as it turned on I felt a lot of heat, as if it arrives from the factory with hot air waiting to blow out upon first use. It has a little bit of the "heater odor", like when you turn the heat in the car way up. It heat my room up really fast, but it's a small-medium sized room. I looked around a lot for heaters and read a lot of reviews. This one worked out perfectly for me; I am very happy with my choice.

  • weak heater

    By AU8DH6AOA1YOJ on 2006-02-26
With the door closed in a small area (bedroom), the unit struggled to produce any measurable benefit. The unit was heating air, but heat was rising straight up from the unit. After a cold night we returned it and purchased an electric blanket and a quartz heater which we love.

On the plus side, this unit is overbuilt for safety. The elements are encased in a mesh grill, and the unit will turn off if tipped over. Unfortunately, it just doesn't produce as much heat as I wanted.

  • These babies work!

    By A2C3XVKTR9EYV2 on 2005-02-05
I have a 2 bedroom apartment outside of Boston. When the temperature outside drops below 20 degrees or so, the interior temp. struggles to remain above 60 degrees or so. I have deployed three of these great heaters in my apartment and the temp. now can get well above 65 when it is really cold outside.

A+ machine, sleek design, definetly not ugly and will get the job done.

  • Great For A Small Room
    By A2J3DFJXKX85X4 on 2005-10-17
If you have a small room, it will heat it efficiently. Just make sure to close the door. It won't work for a larger room, but the price is so cheap, you can get a few for each room. It does the job for the price. It would heat up a child's room perfectly on those cold winter nights. It is also safe and if tipped over, it will turn off automatically. Not bad for the price. You may even find it cheaper than the price here at Amazon. I purchased it at Linens & Things for $24.99 (sale price) The regular price was $29.99.

  • Doesn't seem to have a strong output
    By AZSQXNL9SPI38 on 2005-01-23
Well, there is a reason I am here on Amazon.com shopping for a heater for my dad. And that is because he currently has this one.

Before I trash the heater entirely, however, let me say that the room we are trying to heat was once a single-car garage. It has been converted (complete with fireplace (which he can't use since he is on oxygen)) but I don't think people who converted it did much in the way of insulation. It FEELS like a converted garage a lot of the time. So maybe it would be difficult for ANY heater to heat this room properly.

BUT.... it still doesn't seem to do what it claims.
We have tried to use the 360 degree feature, and only feel a bit of a change with the warm air being felt ABOVE the unit -- rather than in front.
When it is on front-heating, I have placed my hand in front of it trying to feel the hot air blowing.
I CAN feel hot air coming out -- but it just isn't coming out strong enough to make a difference unless you are a foot away from it.

When the temperature was about 40 or 50 outside, and he was using it just to take the chill out of the room, it worked fine.
He even had to turn it off at times because the room got too warm.

However, once the outside temperature truly became winter-like, going below 30 (and currently in the teens) the unit isn't doing the job at all.
It doesn't even warm the room if left on all night.
    It just isn't powerful enough.

So, to nutshell this: If you just need something to take the edge off a room, this might work well.
If you need something to actually HEAT your room under cold conditions, it can't handle it.

  • Thermostat a real problem
    By A3EFU2TTY7IK1T on 2006-02-10
The concept of this heater looked great, but it has one fatal flaw--the thermostat. It seems to think the room is much hotter than it actually is. As a result, even at the highest setting it shuts off after a short period of time. Yet the room is still cold--and there's no way to turn the heater back on. You basically have to wait 20 minutes for the heater to "cool down" enough to work again. We basically don't use it, and we went out and bought another.

  • it's melted itself
    By A348HLGTL33FOA on 2007-11-06
It's warm for small room. I used it for almost 7months and, one day it "melted" itself :( may be because I turn on it too long...

  • Melted itself open
    By AC74VXLY4G3YP on 2007-11-07
I bought this heater last year and used it all winter very happily. It worked very well and kept my computer room comfy and warm.

This year i brought it out to use, plugged it in and on the second day it started turning off on me after about 3 min of use. I unplugged it and let it cool off since it got amazingly hot after that 3 min and i discovered the black, round casing with the holes in it that goes around the top, had melted itself open in the back.

I loved this heater last year but can only give it 2 stars due to longevity.

  • the best darn space heater, EVER
    By A3GVRQGJ7DYLQ2 on 2007-01-16
i consider myself a space heater pro. i have tried so many heaters and only this one, this year, has been worthy of a review. BUY THIS HEATER. i love it so much that i bought two more when i loaned my original to my sister:)

it is great. the tower has two heat options that are fantastic. it heats the whole room if you need it to.

a must have for chilly nights.

  • Good desk heater
    By A2L2X9BPC1WFAU on 2007-03-25
I bought this heater for a lady at work. While it is not the quietest heater, it is perfect for heating under a desk in a busy office.

  • Love this heater...
    By ALKWALPE2D874 on 2005-12-13
It's freezing in my office at work, and this little heater is great!! Exactly what I was looking for. I have it under my desk so it warms up the area right around me. Thermostat is nice too, so that it shuts itself off every now and then and you don't have to worry about it. For $19.99... couldn't ask for more.

  • Excellent!
    By A1NXNNINGM779D on 2007-01-10
When my husband and I moved into our new home in May06, we found in the basement back room two of these heaters. We contacted the pervious owners and told them they had left the heaters, they had left them for us and told us these are good heaters and where we should place them in the house to help keep the bill down. When the weather begin to cool down we used these heaters, the house was warm. So we order three more and they help us to keep our heating bill down. They work very well and it does not take long for the area to heat up. During the day when we are home we turn on all the ones in the house and it is amazing how well they heat the house up, the cord does not get hot and they have a shut off componet, it is just a great product. I would reccommend this product to anyone who is shopping for heaters. I give it 5 stars! and label it Excellent!

  • Nice little heater:
    By A4P7K2U6RQID9 on 2007-02-15
I previously had purchased this same heater about 6 or 7 years back in the white, and it recently died, so I opted to purchase again the same one, only this time in black (or is it charcoal grey?)!

It's a good and dependable heater and doesn't use a whole lot of energy, and it just perfect for the small room that it is kept in, which isn't insulted very well and can get quite cold during the winter months...

I do recommend this heater for small rooms - there are two other models of this heater which would accommodate larger rooms. This little heater I will say is not meant for large rooms and for that, I would get something bigger and more powerful!

  • Honeywell HZ-2200 Mini Tower
    By A1AAA09BIEOTFR on 2007-02-20
Well built little heater, lightweight and warms without any issues. Will not heat a very large area but has worked well for the kneespace under the desk where I use it...

  • Perfect heater !!!
    By A1AX6GWBJF84W4 on 2007-03-04
I bought this heater three weeks ago for my small room ( i was literally dying of cold)and i haven't regretted it one bit. It warms up very fast and the 360 degree function makes it heat up my entire room pretty quickly. The heater however emanates a 'heating smell' when its turned on, which you have to get used to.I strongly recommend this heater for anyone with a small room because of its safety features and performance.

  • Works great at the office
    By AETDR9NE6FAB on 2007-03-23
I bought 2 for under the desks in the front office, seems to be quite drafty there, the little heaters are perfect for that area.

  • Honeywell HZ-2200 Mini Tower Surround Heater
    By A1LV7D498AJK6D on 2007-04-02
I bought this little heater because my dorm room was way too cold or way too warm. During the cold weather the heater did wonders and my dorm room is a decent sized room not a really small one. Also since the weather is becoming really nice the fan is doing a really great job as well! I definitely recommend this heater. It is a bit loud though, but once you get used to it, it's really not a big deal at all. I'd rather have some background noise than be freezing. All in all the heater provides a good source of heat.

  • Work great for size and price
    By A1DW5A6PZH9UNV on 2007-07-28
I'm using this heater in my office, and it works really well for warming up this space. It also has a fan only mode, so it's great for moving air around without putting heat in the air too. The ability to use the surround feature or to just have the air go in one direction is handy too.

  • Poor fan/heat dispersal
    By A3S9DOTT4Z8JF9 on 2008-02-05
I own three of these- bought them all at the same time when a local store had them on clearance for a super-cheap price. I had the same problems below with all three units.

The first problem is that while they generate a great deal of heat, the fan fails to spread that heat across any meaningful area. Rather than force the air away from the unit with a sideways fan, this fan is located at the bottom, aiming straight upward. The interior of the upper housing is somewhat cone-shaped, the idea being to guide the air out of the housing at an angle. This idea fails in practise, though.

Since the air isn't forced away from the unit, and since the thermostat is particularly sensitive, the unit heats the area immediately surrounding itself and then shuts off, leaving the rest of the room unaffected. This unit will do the job under your desk at work or for bathrooms but don't expect it to reliably heat anything larger.

By the way, if all you need is a bathroom/work heater you can find units that perform that very basic task for half the price. (DeLonghi DFH132 SafeHeat Fan Heater, for example, works quite well)

Durability is another issue. The unit eventually becomes completely useless after several months- also due to the poor thermostat. The heater will only turn on for about thirty to forty five seconds at a time- just long enough for it to really warm itself up, then *poof*, it shuts off- even at the highest temperature setting.

Another concern is that the housing gets extremely hot- even the plastic. After a few months of use the top housing had warped to the point that the switch between "directed" heat and "surround" heat became melted in place.

Overall I would summarise this unit by saying that for the price, you can find a lot better performance. Alternatively, for the same performance you can find a lot better price.

  • Heats Well, Inexpensive, Looks Nice; but Noisy
    By A2QRXQPHDMFCQV on 2008-02-23
This fan/convection heater is inexpensive, easy to use with well placed controls, is only 6 lbs and easy to carry from room to room, looks nice, and works well. Downsides of this heater are that it is relatively noisy and there is no handle to carry it.

  • Good for small rooms
    By APMDET6Q27F3K on 2008-03-01
I use this heater occasionally to heat up the bathroom before a shower, or for extra heat in my small, home office on particularly cold, windy days. I have found the heater to be well-built and dependable. Because the heater doesn't blast out hot air, it's perfect for small spaces. My old heater put out more hot air with more force, but it didn't seem as safe, and I often felt like I was being 'toasted' on one side. I prefer the even heat of the honeywell.

Two cons: I wish there was a grip or handle on the top, so it could be easily moved. I also don't like the placement of the air-intake slots. Air goes into the heater right above the dish shaped base, and if any dust or hair has collected in the 'dish,' it gets sucked into the heater and stinks. So it's important to make sure that the base is dust-free before turning on the heater.

  • Excellent addition to my office...
    By AEX8KI6RYFU75 on 2006-12-02
I'm extremely pleased with this little heater. I've had two other brand heaters to die on me in the last year but this is an excellent replacement. My office is frosty yearlong so this heater is great because I'm able to run it at any temperature without any problems; the metal surface area does it hot so it's safe...it automatically cuts off if you tip it over and doesn't "overheat" or short circuit after running it for an extended period of time. I would definitely recommend.

  • Pretty good heater
    By A214W2ZF1Q36KH on 2007-01-09
I have purchased alot of space heaters in the past and feel like this is the one. I only use it for the bed room and it is also very cost effective to run.

  • Good product received in good condition
    By A1S40CBMJJU7 on 2007-07-26
I purchased this heater mainly to use it in my office. It works perfectly, and I like how the thermostat sets the temperature. It is a bit noisy, but honestly I don't even notice the noise! It also has a fan, which is great! I highly recommend this product.
Thank God for Amazon, because I bought this in summer and none of the stores had any heater left. So thank you Amazon!! I no longer freeze at work.

  • Fierce little heater!
    By A2G2WFV5K8ZBE1 on 2007-09-28
I purchased this HZ-2200 on Amazon consumer rating. Must I say the consumers were right on! This little heater is much better than what I anticipated. Within 60 minutes on high, it will warm a moderate size room. Afterwards, turn the thermostat to where it will regulate to room temperature.
    I do recommend this product.

  • Don't Buy This Product
    By A1JYMHFO4ZENMW on 2008-05-23
We have bought three of these heaters -- not from Amazon but at Wal-Mart. My advice: Despite the low price, don't buy it. The first died within two weeks, and we exchanged it. The second one's thermostatic control malfunctioned by the end of the winter, and the heater kept turning on and off regardless of the temperature in the room. Foolishly, we tried a newer model of the same heater the next winter. It lasted three months, first losing one of its fan speeds and then dying altogether. We're now moving toward summer and don't need a room heater, but when I buy a new one next summer, it won't be this type and probably won't be a Honeywell product.

  • very dissappointed
    By A2CBTTDER0HKY3 on 2006-12-17
this heater works great... if you're sitting less than 6 inches away from it. otherwise you will feel no effect, even after hours of heating.

  • Honeywell HZ-2200 Heater-
    By A18L3FIRK9WO03 on 2007-01-11
Honeywell Hz-2200 Surround Heater may be small but it is a powerful heater with child resistant power switch for safety with a extra long cord so you can put the heater in the center of the room. It can be use in halls, bathrooms, small office, etc. It has a three auto shut-off sensors and the price is very reasonable.
