  • Spectacles for the nerd in all of us

    By A1AWIMIVWGIER on 2005-03-24
Don't expect pretty. These specs aren't that, not by a long shot.

You can probably expect your spouse to turn up her (or his) nose once you put them on. Mine did. And I knew what she was thinking: tacky.

But they are neat in a nerdy sort of way. You'd have to be psychotic to lose them, which is helpful for space cadets like me. And when you pull them apart at the bridge, small children think you are magical.

One thing, though. If the size of your head rivals a pumpkin like mine does, these specs will be a tight fit.

  • Adjustable & There for you when you need 'em.

    By A3BAQJ2ZT4Q90X on 2005-05-20
I love these glasses. I used to keep both reading glasses and sunglasses on chains around my neck and they constantly got tangled. Another problem with chains is when you lean forward the chain swings out and the glasses catch on stuff, you stand up then chain and/or glasses break apart. These glasses solve the problem. I ordered them for my husband to try, but I want my own now. Ladies--just wear them under your hair along your neckline ! (I live in land of big hair in the sunny south and we are NOT gonna wear anything that screws up our hair) Also, the reviewers that complained of the glasses not being large enuf--the metal arms of these glasses will extend in and out of the plastic portion and will fit all sorts of head sizes. It takes a good grip to pull the arms in or out to adjust--I think these other folks never tried that. Maybe the manufacturer should include a slip of paper on bright orange paper w/ those instructions for people who don't realize that they are adjustable.. and as to style, if this companyis successful w/ these, maybe they'll add a cat-eye style like I'd like. But meanwhile, the extra convenience of these basic ones make up for the lack of jazzy colors and sparkley stones, etc...like my other reg. reading glasses. Try them.

  • I love these glasses!

    By AJV0L3Q5ZUNFU on 2004-11-24
Now I never have to be worried about losing my glasses again! The CliC reading glasses are very convenient and I love the colors. I am buying a pair of these for all my frineds for the holidays.

  • hairy problem

    By A2P54HXM2QY2SK on 2005-09-08
These glasses are a great idea. However, they do not work with long hair. The back "strap" of the glasses has to ride high up on the back of the head for the lenses to rest low on the nose (so you can see over them for distance). Long hair lays on the back of the glasses and pushes them down in the back, making the front of the glasses pop up and placing the lenses right in front of the eyes. I guess most people who need reading glasses don't have long hair?

  • Pretty Color but doesn't do for reading in bed

    By A288ZT2GGNWM42 on 2006-02-23
I bought the glasses hoping that I would be able to use them after some upcoming surgery. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that instead of being pliable similar to many string arrangements for hanging glasses off one's neck, these are rigid. Consequently, when I tried to use them in bed the rigid "string" meant that the glasses were several inches away from my eyes and unusable when I'm lying down.

These glasses are fine for daytime activities, but they won't do for reading in bed, reading at the beach, or similar situations.

  • Not for those with hair
    By A23WDMLCXU8S20 on 2005-05-18
I bought 2 pair of these and returned both. Cool looking but not on. They don't work with long hair- duh. And my husband's head is too big.

  • Not so easy to use...
    By A20FMIFVWZ3UDE on 2005-08-15
These glasses fit around your neck fine, however putting them on is quite a challenge for me. The back of the glasses stick out on my head, they are way too large and they slip off.
They look quite funny, I don't use them at all.

  • movie 'The Jerk' inspires glasses
    By A2WSGQ7OGS6FGB on 2005-05-15
I think its great that the joke idea that made 'The Jerk' rich in the movie was actually made into a product to make some real life people rich.

  • OH, MY, PEEPERS! THE BETTER TO SEE YOU WITH!
    By A2H4HNXAI01CTY on 2005-06-06
As a writer, historian and webmistress of WWW.CookingUpHistory.com my eyes are my tools and sometimes I am hesitant to carry around my expensive prescription spectacles, especially since I would be lost at work (and penniless) without them. So...I have these snazzy and slightly nerdy pair of clear frame magnified specs that work great for reading menus in dark cozy restaurants are haunting old book stores. They are exceptionally handy to carry and they pack effortlessly, meaning you can reach into a jacket pocket or tote bag and pull them out without being concerned about tweaking the frames.

  • Not as useful as I'd hoped
    By A24KI852YSYME3 on 2006-01-18
I've had these for six months, and have concluded I don't like them. They don't lay flat against my head if reading in bed, and yes, I know the sides expand. The most irritating factor is the magnets pinch the skin right above the bridge. Save your money. Yes, it's a novelty, but there are much better solutions out there.

  • Too-short-strap for anyone who isn't small?
    By A1UVUFYKDK4N41 on 2005-08-09
WARNING! Though these glasses are advertised as "Unisex, one size fits all", they are specifically designed with a permanent strap with extendable arms which allow for VERY LITTLE ADJUSTMENT. In my experience, even with the arms fully extended, the strap was simply too short for practical, comfortable use.

Most people like to have enough "slack" in their reading glasses to put them low on the nose so as to peer OVER the glasses to see things far away, and look DOWN through the glasses for assistance in seeing things close up. The strap on these glasses holds them too tightly against the eyes to allow me to comfortably place he glasses low on the nose. They also, by virtue of their too-short-strap design, hang very close around the neck, which I also find uncomfortable.

I am a medium size man 6' tall and 190 lbs. A large professional-athlete sized man might not be able to get these around his head at all.

I will say the magnet concept is attractive (no pun intended), but I would recommend that unless you are a "small" person, you will likely be disappointed in these particular glasses. I gave mine to a diminutive girlfriend who, I hope, will be able to get use out of them.

  • Constantly entertaining
    By A23QA8VX84OE00 on 2006-03-29
If you don't like getting attention, these are not for you. I'm often surprised by people's astonished reactions to the act of putting them on and taking them off; I'm so accustomed to pulling them apart, that I forget how unusual the viewing public finds it.

I have been wearing Clics for nearly a year. I pretend that I don't need glasses, but of course I do and have for nearly a decade. Popped the standard diopter lenses out, and put in my bifocal prescription. It worked great, despite a warning from my optical shop. (And even if they had broken from the experiment, the price is right: I could try it again.)

Previously I was wearing glasses on a chain. Besides the various difficulties noted by another reviewer, I also found that the plastic loops that connect the chain to the arms of the glasses have a bad habit of stretching. Then the glasses slip off the chain at inappropriate times and the frames break.

I call the color of mine "magenta" - which may or may not be the same as the online "red" - I bought them in a shop (**gasp**). My short hair is not a problem, but I agree that reading in bed doesn't work. So I use a different pair for those occasions.

  • GREAT-GREAT-GREAT!!!!
    By A2GBKB7A264ANU on 2005-07-13
I wasn't too sure about these glasses when I first ordered them but I am now...I love these things!! Convenient, confortable and very handy to use and wear!!

  • i was wondering
    By A7PMQ52VUTJ4P on 2005-08-31
this is a fabulous idea. how many times have you lost your reader glasses? not anymore. these will stay around, hugging your neck. lightweight and adjustable. the only problem is all the curious witnesses wondering what they are...

  • everyone asks me about it
    By A1GGO381Z3041R on 2006-04-07
These glasses are time-savers; I do not need to chase after my reading glasses anymore and shifting is much more easier than any other hanging-around-the-neck ones.I can't count the number of people who asked me how/where to get one. It makes a great gift to anyone who needs reading glasses too.

  • CliC Adjustable Front Connect Reader
    By A3LAJNW799E73F on 2006-07-17
I purchased these after seeing a physician friend of mine using them. I absolutely recommend these to any active person who needs to have reading glasses at the ready. I clip them on in the morning use them on and off throughout the day and never misplace them. I have purchased these as gifts for other professional people. One pair that I purchased were a bit narrow at the temples. I heated the back band with a hair dryer gave them a little side to side pull, placed them on and they fit just fine. If you are a particularly large person this may be necessary.

  • Definite learning curve
    By AGCCVY8YL1OLS on 2006-11-07
I agree with others here that they are not for everyone or every situation. In my professional life, I have to constantly take them off and put them on. I have a huge head and initially I had some problems with them coming apart. You need to adjust and experiment a bit. After giving them a second chance, I do enjoy them a lot. I used to have to search everywhere for a pair of my reading glasses. Now my biggest problem is crumbs. When properly adjusted, they work well. They have only a limited range of lens strengths, however. They are easy to peer over...and a bit more sporty or dare I say macho than a pair with a chain!

  • Definitely not one size fits all
    By A3Q904OS3JZUS8 on 2007-08-23
I was amazed the first time I met a guy wearing these. The concept is great, but when I ordered two pair for my husband, he couldn't even get them past the outside of his cheeks. They didn't fit my neighbor nor did they fit me. You've really got to have a small head for these, even the adjustable ones.

  • These things HURT!
    By A3U5EMSDYKI06T on 2007-10-09
The reviews are mixed... some say they don't fit, others say that they're adjustable and those with problems just don't know how to adjust them. I trusted the latter half and decided to try them, since those that liked them really liked them.

I'm 5'9" and have an average-sized head. These barely adjust far enough that the neck loop doesn't cause them to pull against my nose _much_. (And I know how to adjust them.) I have to be very careful when snapping the magnets together, because I have so little clearance that I get pinched by them if I'm not.

But the glasses touch my nose only on the bridge at one narrow point... the sides don't touch my nose at all, and after about ten minutes, my nose started to get sore. I need my reading glasses (I had stepped on my last pair), so I kept wearing them until they gave me a headache, and my nose was still sore the next morning.

I bought nose pads to cushion the bridge and they're still uncomfortable... the band doesn't let them slide down past the bridge of my nose where the sides can rest on my nose, even with the additional thickness of the pads. They're very heavy compared to any other glasses I've owned, too, which adds to the discomfort.

These glasses were a total waste of money. The problem isn't that some people can't figure out how to adjust them, the problem is that they were made only for people with small heads.

  • Beware...
    By A8H987C9DJK8Z on 2008-01-02
I wear a 7 3/8 hat and these will not fit, not even close. Seems that the manufacturer makes a "long" model also and recommend that is what I need. FYI

  • clic too small
    By A1D5HUCLVDXI2V on 2008-06-02
Clic glasses good in some aspects but for people with a little larger head the adjustable frames could use about an inch more, they are too tight on the head. People with a lot of hair or thick hair will experience the same problem, will not order any more until they adjust properly

  • Clic reading glasses
    By A3VEFXNLDBYNQU on 2008-10-01
I have 2 pairs of these type of reading glasses but I never thought I would have to return a pair. I got a pair for my husband and they fit too snug. I never thought to check his size before I ordered them.

If they can make a size wider they would be a perfect fit. Otherwise they are great.CliC Adjustable Front Connect Reader, 1.50 Strength, Tortoise Frame

  • Clic Readers
    By A3MPHQNL72CE3I on 2007-03-09
I had my original clic readers for about six years before I had to replace them. I love the quality of the lenses, the ease of use and the fact that I do not have to remember where I put them when I took them off. I never take them off and have even ordered several pair for other people at work. I am a carpenter and other than having to clean sawdust that accumulates on them once in a while, find them to be one of the most useful tools I own.

  • They do exactly what they appear to
    By A307Y3LMCVEZS1 on 2007-04-11
The magnet is solid, the frame wiggle perfectly to make it clic and fit just like the picture shows. Lenses are clear and functional. However, they need to give a bit more space to accomodate larger heads, since it can get snug and this is NOT your usual glasses. Notice that the frame encircles the head, making head size an issue.

On the plus side- the glasses won't fall off when you bend forward, they stay around your neck after you unclick 'em, and they are functional.

  • Best reading glasses I've found
    By A1JPKJL3EBEVJ7 on 2007-06-04
These are easy to wear-almost invisible (clear version) and work very well in all situations. The lenses are interchangable SO I order one pair in each magnification I need (1.25 and 1.75) and switch the lenses. PERFECT!
People ask me about them all the time. The tinted version is great for the beach and the computer screen.
I should bring extra pairs on my sales trips and make a few extra bucks. Buy these! You'll love them.

  • CliC a Hit
    By A25U4F7Z6ZTNDY on 2007-07-09

The main features of this product are (1) great scratch resistant reading glasses, (2) because of the way they work, when they are not being used, they ride higher, and are not swinging from your neck, getting in your way, and (3) they are always ready and are "loss resistant".

  • Fashion over useful, not
    By A3KX1POMM1TJCG on 2007-08-16
Where are my glasses? never again though you will not be the coolest person in the room.
thus you are stuck with a dilemma. Do I see when sight is needed or squint till you find those readers. If fashion is important get fashionable glasses. If seeing is important get the clics. Simple as that.
I work as a paramedic/firefighter. If I doing intubation or starting IV or reading an EKG my patients don't complain about how I look, only did I save their life. If seeing is important and you need readers this is an excellent, reliable product. If seeing and being seen is important buy a dozen cool readers and leave then everywhere.

  • CliC it and you won't forget it
    By A10BJE3U631L85 on 2007-08-23
These reading glasses are TERRIFIC. My husband was constantly purchasing the cheap reading glasses and leaving them all over the house--or better yet, putting them down somewhere and unalbe to find them. They are light-weight around the neck and the magnet is strong making it easy to put on and take off. These are a fabulous invention. I highly recommend to those who need magnifying glasses at a moments notice.

  • Great product but not for the big guy.
    By ACX8HDEOB8O93 on 2007-08-23
My wife loves them, but they are really not usable in bed as the angle that you look through is not comfortable while lying down. Also, I tried them on and they are not for someone with a wider forehead. They do not comfortably fit around a bigger guy's head, but she loves them and wears them a lot around the house.

Build quality is great and they do the job for her and since they were bought for her, they are fine.

  • Wish to enjoy them someday
    By A3CEXTZJGVT0JM on 2007-08-28
I wish Clic could design one for larger forehead person. I remembered seeing an auntie here in Thailand using them one day. I felt in love with the design at first sight and non-stop searching where to buy them. I finally found in the website and showed the design to my sisters and in-laws who just said to go ahead and ordered them. We have 5 of them now. I could not use them but seeing my sisters and in-laws enjoy wearing them so much make me feel really good. A bit envy of them though. I still wish to be able to enjoy the Clic glass reader someday.
