  • Great toy!

    By A365747SS3PLHQ on 2006-05-21
My daughter got this for her birthday (3 years old). Even though she is not old enough yet to really count the money she has had a blast "ringing things up" on the scanner and paying with the credit card. She also really likes the coin slot. When she puts the money in it tells her what the coin was. She has done this over and over again. She is also having fun going around the house collecting items in her shopping cart and then ringing them up.

I can see this being a toy she will play with for many years. It has math games that seem like they will be fun and educational. Very nice, oh, and my dad observed that the coin slot works with real coins too!

The negatives... The drawer shoots out quickly and the plastic coins tend to slosh out. Also the weighing tray comes off easily. I'm going to put that away till my daughter gets a little older.

    Overall- a great toy!

  • Fun and Learning

Bought this for my 5 year old. Both he and my 7 year old have enjoyed playing with it. They especially like the silly things it does, like sometimes telling them their credit card has been declined, etc. Seems well constructed and has some good learning games, too.

  • Best toy register I've seen!

I got this cash register for my daughter when she started learning about money at school. She is 8 now and still loves playing "store" with her 5 yr. old brother. We've had it well over a year and haven't even had to replace batteries yet. It is durable and fun. The electronic voice is very easy to understand and all the buttons function as they should. I highly recommend this toy.

  • Cash register not child-friendly

You can't turn the register off, you just have to wait the 5 minutes of inactivity for it to automatically shut off. And there are different buttons to push to select different games, only one of them works, coin quiz. On level 2 of that game, it gives you an amount and you have to put various coins in to equal that amount. You'd think it would acknowledge when you got to that amount, but it does nothing. You press enter and it does nothing. If you put more in it tells you that you are wrong, but then it's too late. What a disappointment!

  • Not a good experience

This toy only comes w/coins and paper bills - nothing to scan w/the scanner, and nothing to weigh on the scale. I went to the company's website to see if a separate purchase was required, and nothing was listed. The directions were no help - they seem to imply that the items to scan come w/the unit. To top it off, the toy wouldn't respond to the buttons pressed. The instructions say to press the reset button when the unit acts up, which was strangely not installed anywhere on this toy. After fiddling w/it for awhile, we got the math games to work, but inconsistently, and the toy leaves no room for open ended, imaginative play if a child can't use the scanner or scale. The kids got bored really quickly w/just the number identification and math games. We were really looking for a toy w/more creative options.

  • This one's worth it
    By A1QFM9CFEUXZK5 on 2007-12-30
Unfortunately, I wasted a little bit (or more) of money this holiday season. I'm glad to say that this particular toy was absolutely NOT a waste. I had the older model for my older kids, but got rid of that one when they outgrew it. Remembering how much they enjoyed playing with it (we even used it for our garage sale), I bought this one for my youngest daughter, who is four.

This is an excellent cash register! It comes with a lot of play money and provides hours of learning fun. Really, my daughter just loves playing store, scanning items, using her "Kroger Card" and the credit card. She enjoys hearing the machine say "Credit Approved" (or declined!), and she loves putting the coins in the coin slot and having the register recognize which coin it was.

This cash register has many more features than the older one (which I truly liked), and that adds to the play value, I suppose, especially for a younger child. There are some simple math games on this one, too, but the games are really geared to kids just a bit older than 4.

However, my daughter has only had this for 2 days and she has already started to grasp some money concepts that she didn't have before. We've gone over coin values and she's undertanding that the paper money has different values, as well-- although we really haven't begun to go over that. And, interestingly enough, she's asked about some of the figures on the bills and the coins. She's especially interested in Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln.

This is a great toy. And, as I mentioned before, it really does work as a cash register, as well. So, you can use it for simple sales such as garage sales, lemonade stands, etc.

  • Great toy for little kids... very satisfying
    By A3CN9CCJUNIPKT on 2007-05-13
If your kid is into "playing store" and handling money, this is a fine cash register toy. It has a calculator/sound card component that uses batteries, but they are not absolutely necessary. Even without batteries, the drawer will still open and a coin slot still works (with a very satistfying spring-action device that chucks the plastic coins into a holding tray...) With the AAs plugged in, though, you get plenty of ding-ding-chingg stimuli, as well as math-game options that may be quite rewarding for kids who are ready for arithmetic. The age range is pretty wide for this toy, and different kids at different developmental levels can get a lot out of it. My only complaint: the synthetic voice that calls out,"Play With Me!" when you leave it alone for a while, and then signs off when you really quit. Other than that, this is pretty spiffy.

  • Great gift

I got this for my granddaughter who just turned 3. I thought she might be too young for it but she's fascinated by it! She was every toy under the sun but this is the one that she consistently wants to play with. I had read the reviews before I bought it and was skeptical that it would live up to it's reputation but I was wrong. It was a wise choice, and I highly recommend it.

  • Excellent toy--learning, fun, durability all in one
    By AUM498YHT3DFS on 2007-01-18
I almost bought my daughter the Dora the Explorer cash register and I'm so glad I bought this one instead! The cash register is nice and sturdy and comes with lots of play money that is also very durable and the coins really resemble real coins--there is a coin deposit slot that tells your child what each coin is. This was by far my 3-yr-old's favorite Christmas toy and one month later, she is still playing with it non-stop. The "scanner" will call out prices on anything you place on it and display the numbers at the same time. My 9-yr-old played with my younger daughter and liked that it added up however many items you gave it and gave you a total. Sadly, the thing my youngest likes best is the credit card which she swipes like a pro! This was much less expensive than the character registers, and so much better quality.

  • Great Fun and Great Learning
    By A15RSBPVT3O5WF on 2007-02-02
I have this cash register at work and have noticed that all the children love it, from 2-year-olds to school age kids so bought it for my 2 year old son for Christmas. It's fun to see him learning about the coins and using his imagination to "play store". It's great to know that this toy will be with us for a long time as it actually teaches you, talks to you, works on math skills, etc. (I've kept the instructions to refer to as he gets more advanced in his development/play.) He loves it now and will grow into using more of it's features as time goes on.

  • Excellent Learning Cash Register
    By A16Q4442N28VSZ on 2007-01-11
This cash register is far more than I expected. I bought it for my four year old for Christmas. All three of my children enjoy playing with it. The best feature is that the coin slot recognizes real money as well as play money. My four year old now knows all the coins by name and is learning their values. The games are great too. The kids love the coupon discounts that it registers when you slide the coupon card. The credit card is a big hit too. They love scanning objects and having the price automatically come up. It teaches great math and real money skills with the way the cashier rings up the objects, puts in the amount of money tendered, and makes change. It also works as a calculator. The size of the cash register is great too...it is far larger than expected with nice big buttons. Very sturdy and high quality. Definitely worth the price!

  • perfect gift

My husband and I bought this for our three grandchildren for Christmas. It is one of their favorite presents. The two year old loves to open and close the drawer, push the buttons, and put change in the slot. The four and a half year olds love to play store and are now getting interested in the games. They are really enjoying learning to add. A very well-made, fun, educational toy.

  • Cool Toy!
    By A33Z1V7ETNUNSH on 2007-01-10
When you use the credit card for this register, it sounds like it's checking your credit. And the money that's included looks like real money and it tells you what denomination is being inserted into the coin bank when inserted. The only problem I've found thus far is that the batteries don't last very long.

  • Great item!
    By A14VMYVR2MRTS5 on 2007-01-10
We got this for our four year old for Christmas. It was a huge hit with my 8, 11 and 14 year old as well! It truely grows with the child. I was amazed at what it could do. Seems to hold up well. A very good investment.

  • Keeps them busy!

I bought this cash register for my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter for Christmas. She liked it better than all her other toys. She loved playing with the money and opening the cash register and counting. She played store with her grandfather and weighed her plastic food at the register. Very good toy.

  • this is GREAT!!!!!
    By A2CKTBO6ZYCAKO on 2007-01-29
This is the best thing I have purchased for my grandson in a very long time! We've been having so much fun with it that we haven't taken the time to send in this review ~ sorry! He doesn't yet realize that he is LEARNING while he's playing with the built in "games' that he loves to do. The unit is sturdy and very well-made....a great price for a great product! Thanks for making the perfect gift!

  • Sadly disappointed
    By A1E110DL61QL3R on 2008-03-18
My child loves to play with the toy at a friend's house. Unfortunately, the cash drawer stuck on the first one we received. Amazon exchanged it - no problem. The second one arrived and I played with the coin recognition feature before giving it to my child. I noticed it was not 100% accurate in naming the coin I inserted. I went very slowly to give it time to answer before putting in the next coin. So I returned the 2nd one. I'm not sure if we just had bad luck and got 2 bad ones; I was unwilling to try a 3rd. This product has great features and my child loves it, but I wasn't willing to risk confusing her. Amazon however has won my loyalty with their quick exchange and acceptance of my final return.

  • fun toy, but can be picky
    By AWSZQ1MRHT9CK on 2008-06-09
My two young daughters really enjoy this register. It has some great features like the credit card and coupon discount card, which are lots of fun for the kids. The money looks like real money and it helps kids learn about making change and counting money. My only beef with it is that sometimes the register acts up and sticks and has to be completely reset. So it sort of has to be handled with care.

  • A GREAT GIFT!!
    By A3JV9XMZLQO82N on 2007-01-10
WE ACTUALLY PURCHASED A DIFFERENT CASH REGISTER FOR MY 3 1/2 YEAR OLD SON, BUT RETURNED IT AFTER MY SON PLAYED WITH THIS ONE AT A FRIEND'S HOUSE. IT HAS A LOT OF GREAT FEATURES THE OTHER ONE DIDN'T HAVE, ALTHOUGH MOST ARE TOO ADVANCED FOR MY SON'S AGE. HE ENJOYS IT ON THE BASIC LEVEL FOR NOW AND WILL SURELY ENJOY IT AS HE GET OLDER AND BETTER AT MATH.

  • Awesome learning toy
    By A3C5RRG32IXNC9 on 2007-01-12
This item was a great learning toy, yet lots of fun for the kids. It really helps identify the coin. It tells you how much change you need to return, which makes the kids add the coins. The scanner just simply scans the item and places a random price on it. No bar codes or anything needed. The family really enjoys the product.

I have a nearly 3 year old daughter who uses reciepts as comfort items and so, what better gift could her parents get her for CHRISTmas, than a cash register ;) She has actually been playing with one for a few months in the school lobby that no longer had "play cash" or batteries. She is absolutely thrilled to play with this everyday.

My older children (ages 5 & 8) also love to play along with her and learn simple math money skills as well.

  • never arrived
    By A3EIWSKG71SO3B on 2007-01-17
I orered 2 of these cash registers a few days apart for two different kids for Christmas. Order was cancelled without telling me and meanwhile the kids were told to expect them but never arrived. I had to call on Jan 17 to find out for myself that orders had been cancelled. Disappointing. I'm not sure if I can trust to reorder. No explaination for the cancellation either.

  • Great toy - big hit with all the kids
    By A1MERSQ02BXP5G on 2007-01-05
Santa got this for my 5 yr old son and he LOVES it. In fact all my kids (7,5,4) and all the kids that have come for a playdate love this toy. It teaches math skills and is loads of fun.

  • Train your child to scan groceries
    By AQO71UDADXLXX on 2007-01-09
I want my son to be operating a cash register some day, maybe even bagging groceries if we're really lucky, so we got this for Christmas. He loves it.

It's well made. My only complaint is the spring on the drawer causes it to shoot out at about 80mph, sending the fake coins all over the room. Other than that, it makes all the noises and does all the things that kids like. When my son is older he'll understand the games you can play on it (counting, sorting, matching coins, etc.) For now, he'll just sit there putting coins in and opening the drawer.

At some point I'll break it to him that the money's not real.

We purchased this item for my 3 year old daughter, and she loves it. We pretend like she is really shopping for groceries. She will bring her grocery cart to me and I place items on the register for her and the register comes up with a random price for each item. Then she hands me her coupons and her pretend VISA card and I run those through the register. It is so much fun! I know that she will be able to use and play with this machine later b/c it teaches addition, subtraction and how to count money. A GREAT machine.

MY CHILD HAD ENJOYED PLAYING WITH THE CASH REGISTER SINCE SHE HAS RECEIVED ON CHRISTMAS. IT HAS HELP HER A LOT WITH COUNTING MONEY AND INTERACTING WITH OTHER CHILDREN. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE

  • Great for fun and learning
    By A69M0NJ1LRMWA on 2007-05-07
My 2 and 4 year olds LOVE this cash register. It is fun and has great educational value that will last probably through middle school. It has games as easy as coin identification and as hard has adding/subtracting double digit numbers with carrying. Doubtful that we will be able to keep track of all the coins as long as we will have the register... luckily the activities work with real money too!

  • Great Cash Register !
    By A2SCN2SMSM50FI on 2007-05-12
My 3yr old son loves this cash register ! We've started teaching him with the cash and coins, though this is a toy he'll be able to use for years as he learns more. I recommend this toy.

  • Much better than the cheap character ones!!!
    By AJ1VIHNVZUC9G on 2007-05-13
I bought this for my kids when my oldest was 4 1/2. It has held their attention for hours on end, even without the play money (I put it up when the baby is playing). The thing I love most of all is that it both inspires creative play, lots of shopping trips, and teaches money. I can also see that the kids will continue to grow into it as they get older, using the more advanced functions as they understand them better. And, it seems pretty durable, as my 18 month old picks it up and drops it at least once a week!

My 5 year old grandson was quite taken with this toy. At his birthday, it was the one toy that he returned to several times.
