Swaddling Soothes Newborns and Reduces Symptoms of Colic by recreating the familiar, comforting snugness of the womb. Swaddling also reduces the incidence of the startle reflex, which can upset babies and increase the frequency of waking and crying. Swaddling Can Reduce the Risk of SIDS and help babies sleep through the night. New research shows that swaddling can help reduce the risk of SIDS by promoting better sleep when infants are on their backs. Pediatricians Have Long Recommended Swaddling to soothe and comfort newborns, but loose blankets do not stay securely in place. The SwaddleMe provides the simplest, most effective way to swaddle newborns. Swaddling Can Reduce the Risk of SIDS and help babies sleep through the night. Didn't measure up By A37PLX712HL242 on 2005-07-08
I am unhappy with this product. My newborn baby is 22" long and weighs 7 pounds. I purchased this item after speaking to the rep about size. I've found that my son can easily get his legs out of the bottom pouch through the opening. I think that if there was a longer strip of velcro instead of the short square, this would be prevented. He also can get his arms out of the top. If the velcro strip could be larger, going more toward the back and side of the product, this would not happen. Maybe my son is more narrow at the top than some children and this is not a problem for many, but I think this would make the product more useable, one size fits all. Also, he is long, and the small size was too cramped. I'm assuming the next size up would have been too wide for him and therefore making it impossible for his arms to stay inside - which is happening anyway. I like the product idea and the fabric and construction,(which is why I gave it 2 stars) but this product did not work for me. I have recently purchased The First Years swaddle blanket, but have issues with that one as well. I am currently searching for one to fit.
We had problems too... By AOCJMVO9TKNUN on 2005-08-03
I agree with the first reviewer,"Cindy"--I love the concept, but the proportions on this swaddler just aren't right, unless you have a really tiny baby or one that doesn't kick his/her legs much (my one-month old boy weighs 11 lbs and is 23 inches long.). The velcro doesn't hold because the patches are too small, and the knit fabric is too stretchy. However, I put him in the larger size SwaddleMe today, and it fits much better.
Nice blanket, but... By A2KK9JWB7W9TNC on 2005-11-04
When preparing to have our first child I bought one of each kind of swaddle, not knowing what we would like the best. We've also tried the standard 'receiving' blanket and some nice stretchy ones. This one we liked the least. My baby wiggles a lot when settling for sleep and every time she moved she would hear the velcro coming apart a little and it would bother her. She had a very hard time falling asleep in it. The Miracle blanket works best for her because it does a better job at keeping her arms down than others and doesn't have noisy velcro on it. I've also tried the sleep sacks. As she's getting more and more arm control I'm finding that she is slowly liking the "Halo Sleep Sack" better, but at night she still needs her arms confined. I also like the sleep sack idea because it is only one layer of blanket (where this SwaddleMe is two in the front when closed. The other thing I didn't like about the SwaddleMe or the Miracle Blanket is that with my baby's wiggling she invariably ends up with a gap between the feet sack and the top part and since we tend to use t-shirts rather than onsies her belly gets exposed and cold. So, I wouldn't recommend this for an active, noise sensitive baby.
Helps Baby Sleep By A3NZF19UWLZA76 on 2006-10-08
When my daughter was born, I didn't know about swaddling, and it would take me HOURS to get her to sleep! I would feed or rock her in my arms until she falls asleep, then put her in her crib... and she'd flail her arms, wake up and cry, and I had to start all over! What a nightmare!
Then I figured out that since her arms wake her, it would make sense to wrap her in something so she couldn't move them as much... so I started wrapping her in regular receiving blankets. It worked! It became much easier to get her to sleep. But then she wiggled out of those receiving blankets and wake up again.
When she was a little over a month old, somehow I came across SwaddleMe blankets on the Internet and immediately bought it. It worked like a charm! It was so easy to wrap my daughter in it, and it stayed put. My daughter started sleeping so much better!
I wish I found those blankets sooner - it would've saved me from so many sleepless nights!
I consider this blanket one of the most important baby items you could buy. It should be a must for a new mother who wants to get some sleep!
Don't bother By A13GBT88UWFEJY on 2006-01-28
This did not work for us at all. I found that I couldn't get it wrapped around our newborn without her kicking it off. If you know how to swaddle then use the hospital blanket or another thin blanket made of cotton.
- Don't bother...

We got this as a gift and have used it 0 times. It's expensive and poorly designed. A large receiving blanket works well and is cheaper, easier to fold, and nicer looking.
- Couldn't live without this!

My twins are 3 months old and have been sleeping through the night for a month because of these blankets. They are super soft and keep my babies nice & warm during cold nights (especially their hands). I worried about them pulling their blankets over their faces at night and swaddling with receiving blankets wouldn't hold them (they wiggle a lot) so these are the perfect solution. I'm ordering 2 more in the large size to get us through the winter. I highly recommend and will be gifting these to my expectant friends in the future.
- Great Swaddling Aid
     By AJSGL1NN10GU7 on 2007-05-01
This has been a very helpful product for us. For the first eight weeks after our daughter was born we swaddled her in a receiving blanket and then placed her like a little burrito into this swaddle sack. This "double swaddling" technique was the only way to keep her swaddled- if we used only the receiving blanket, or only the sack, she would wriggle out, but both together was perfect! Now that she is older and not so wriggly we just use this swaddle sack. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the velcro areas should be larger to accomodate different sized babies.
- Works great for our infant
     By A2EIQZ5S74VCVN on 2006-01-14
Our son, now 3 mo's old, is a great sleeper when he's swaddled in this thing. Without it he thrashes his arms and legs and startles himself awake. With it he settles down and sleeps like a champ. We've been using it since he was a newborn. The little square of velcro doesn't hold the bottom part on well at all, but it's winter so we dress him in sleeper jammies underneath the Swaddleme anyway so it's not a big issue. When we came home from the hospital at first we tried swaddling using receiving blankets but our son wiggled right out. We're huge fans of the SwaddleMe and now give it as our standard baby shower gift.
- Could not survive without this.

My son loves this. He has reflux and sleeps in his Papasan infant seat (bouncer). The harness slit in the back allows me to buckle him into his Papasan while he is in his Swaddleme. The combination of the Papasan and the Swaddleme works wonders for him. By two months old he was usually sleeping from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. waking only once for a feeding around 4 a.m. He outgrew the small size Swaddleme within a couple of months, but he has plenty of room to grow in the large. I love the velcro because it holds him in securely. Sometimes he will fuss and wriggle for a minute or two after he is put down but the Swaddleme holds him in securely and really helps him calm down. This is one of the very few products that I consider a must for new babies.
- These are the best!

Our little 2 month old has been swaddled up nightly in these blankets since we discovered them. We were swaddling her the old-fashioned way in blankets until I found these. These are easy easy easy! Also work great in warm weather, seems like the perfect amount of warmth for her, without her getting overheated even on warm nights. She loves these blankets-- they calm her right now even at her fussiest moments!
- Great Wrap!

My Daughters love to wiggle and squirm and can get out of anything I wrap them in! This wrap seems to do the trick! Yes, they do get out of it sometimes but it is the best thing that I have found to swaddle them with!!

I got these blankets for my baby shower and I love them. They make it where your baby stays tight and can't move around to wake themselves up. My daughter would move around while she was sleeping to wake herself up and with this blanket, she slept longer.

I can't say much about this as I have not used it yet. My baby is due in July but it seems to be really nice and I am sure she will use it when she comes.

- Lifesavers for Getting Baby to Sleep
     By A1TTEG3OK3IBZ5 on 2008-04-06
Our 2 week old cannot stay a sleep longer than 10 minutes without her hands and feet waking her up.
Thanks to the Swaddler we are able to get her to sleep for a full 3 hours (or until she wakes up to be feed).
This is a must have for any new parents.
- Great Sleep Aid
     By A3B4UPBV2NPGR3 on 2008-08-16
I love the Kiddopotamus swaddles. I have bought several (8) for our twin girls. They really help them to go to sleep by keeping their flailing arms & legs wrapped up tight and warm. The slit in the back is perfect for keeping them wrapped up while transporting them in their carseats. The swaddles are soft, easy to use and clean up well.
The reason I gave this one in particular only 3 stars is because this one (100% cotton knit yellow small) and only this one (not the green dot or circle bear pattern) had the velcro patch in a different, less convenient place. I don't know why because the other patterns that I mentioned were all the same. But the yellow ones don't work as well. Also, Kiddopotamus doesn't seem to make swaddles in size medium. The girls are now too big for the small size but the large size it just a bit too large. We still use them, but they're not as effective. Medium would be best at this stage.
- Quick, easy, affordable way to swaddle your infant
     By A2KLNHP1M7XL9L on 2008-09-13
This product was an essential during the first 2 months of our son's life. It was very easy to get him into a secure swaddle with the SwaddleMe. We tried and tried with regular receiving blankets, but one of his arms would always sneak out. Most newborns love the swaddling feel, as it reminds them of the womb. The swaddling keeps their arms and legs from twitching, which will often arouse them from sleep. The price was very reasonable, I think we ended up with 5 of them as we used them every night and most naps!
- Love it!
     By A18FIBX0LSHSG9 on 2008-09-16
These things are great - we recently went to visit the grandparents and accidentally left it at home, and it was a disaster! She was up every 3 hours instead of her usual 7-hour stretch of sleep at night (this was at 3 months). I definitely notice that my daughter falls asleep faster and more easily and stays asleep longer with this blanket. I haven't had any issues with the velcro coming undone (the velcro doesn't always match up with the "sticky patches" it's supposed to attach to but I find it sticks to the regular fabric too) or making noise, or with the top and bottom parts separating, even though my baby moves a lot in her sleep. Pressing on it firmly when wrapping it seems to do it - she wiggles around like a little worm but with this blanket she stays swaddled up tight. In fact, I'll only use this or a 'sleep sack' if I'm not going to be right there when she naps, because I've gone in to find regular blankets bunched up around her neck and shoulders because she's been waving her legs around in her sleep! And I love that the bottom can be undone for diaper changes with the arms staying wrapped! I've never used the "harness attachment opening" - I can see how the idea is a good one, but putting into practice seems like it'd be awkward and impractical. I haven't tried it though, so I could be wrong! All in all, we consider this blanket indispensable.
