  • Entertaining and Educational

As the mother of twins, one hearing and one deaf, I have had the opportunity to check out many programs for teaching ASL to small children. This is by far the best series out there. Most other products are so boring that parents must struggle to stay awake during the production, and there is no way a toddler would tolerate a viewing. My 2-year-old twins request Signing Time all of the time. At home they want the DVDs playing almost constantly. In the car my hearing daughter starts asking for the Signing Time CD before I even have her strapped into her carseat. My 2-year-old deaf daughter is using 5-sign sentences, which is almost unheard of for the deaf child of hearing parents. My extended family owns a total of 6 sets of Signing Time. Whenever my daughters' cousins have a birthday they ask for the latest Signing Time DVDs. Children of all ages love this product.

  • What a fun way to learn!

    By A1187BNHGJ1G8W on 2005-01-04
We have all 6 volumes of Signing Time and they are the best way to teach kids signing. Not a bad way for the rest of the household to learn either! We started signing with our youngest son, William, when he was a baby. When he started Early Intervention (he has Trisomy 21, aka Down syndrome), the speech therapist recommended signing not just for communication but also to boost his speech. After trying various baby sign videos, books, etc., a friend on an online board raved about Signing Time. Volume 1 had us hooked, and we quickly bought 2 & 3 and anxiously awaited news of more volumes. William absorbed the signs, and we watched his communication skills grow.
Our set of volumes 5-6-7 arrived shortly before Christmas and my husband immediately opened them to watch. William and his siter (7), have quickly picked up the new signs from them, and we all go through the house singing the different songs~ the favorite right now is "Do you know the colors of the Rainbow?"

Since the arrival of the new set, William's speech and communication have taken off at warp speed! His first day at school yesterday since the holiday break amazed his teacher and the aides. They wanted to know how he learned so much while on the school break. Of course I told them it was his new signing time DVDs! The first thing he did when we got to school in themorning was to go up to one of his friends and point to her shirt and say "Green shir... Nemo 'n Dori on" He's known his colors for a couple years now, but after watching the DVD he points out everything and signs & says the color. He didn't just tell them some of the new signs from the set, he was directing the other kids in complete sentences! Huge milestone for him! His aide said when they cleaned up to get ready to go outside, he said, "C'mon, les ge backpacks on 'n go outside!"
I even watch them when the kids are at school, in hopes that I can become more fluent in signing... momma's never too old to learn too!

  • I highly recommend this series!

I took sign language in college and learned the value of it immediately. When I had my daughter I immediately started using a few signs and found that she picked up eat and more at about 5 months. Then I found the Signing Times DVD's. I was so excited so I bought them all and started watching them with my daughter. These DVD's are the best thing I have bought for my daughter! She is 2-1/2 now and knows about 60 signs! I have never really had a problem with temper tantrums and our communication is wonderful! Plus she speaks so clearly already. I am very proud of her! I would recommend these videos to anyone - with or without children. They make learning some sign language fun!

  • Great ASL!!!

My adult son is an ASL interpreter and I was researching to find a good child's ASL video. This is it!!! Lots of fun and good teaching.

  • favourite of all the Signing Time! DVDs

    By A34D601PVKXLS2 on 2007-01-22
Most likely my favourite of all the Signing Time! DVDs. Shows ASL signs related to colours, fruits and vegetables and activities. This DVD is presented well and is a lot of fun to watch. The vocabulary and language concepts presented make it great for all children, especially 2-3 year olds.

  • Fantastic
    By A1XEHWJW9DIWD3 on 2007-02-01
My daughter (now 20 months) just loves signing time. Because she is in a dual language household (her grandmother speaks only Japanese), her language skills have been slow to develop. Signing has helped immensely with helping to communicate with her. All of the shows are her favorites.

  • Come and Sign with Alex and Leah!
    By A3A6MY7WKGLPPU on 2005-01-10
These anticipated products lived up to their expectations! My 4 year old and 20 month old love to sing, dance and sign with Alex, Leah, Rachel and their friends. We can, and often do, watch Signing Time all day. They have given us a means of communication that has helped with the "terrible twos" and word recognition. My husband and I find ourselves signing with friends and family and love it.

  • My 22 month old twins and my 5 year old LOVE this!
    By A1A0RG3DDSDRSP on 2006-10-30
My 5 year old has been very interested in sign langauge and although we have the entire series of baby sign, I was looking for something that was a little more advanced with more signs. I picked up this video the other day at the library and I'm blown away by how well done it is. I couldn't believe that my 22 month old twins were so glued to the show. They aren't to the other baby signs video by another company. My 5 year old remembered 20 of the signs a few hours later after only watching it once. I'm going to get all the videos for my kids and their version of signing for babies. It is really fabulous.

  • Wonderful!
    By A1R1MASK3AYY7D on 2004-12-20
The video covers the signs for red, orange, green, blue, purple, rainbow, several fruits and vegetables (including the words "Fruit" and "Vegetable")... carrots, potatoes, beans, corn, lettus, grape, peach, strawberry. She also covers many action words like "Jump, dance, walk, run, sit, swim, and swing".

Once again, it's only 30 minutes long, but worth the money. The songs and videos are catchy and they really draw children in.

I hope Signing Time continues to put out videos for years to come!

  • Do you know the colors of the Rainbow?
    By A11HPYUT1FLLK4 on 2004-12-28
My 19 month old son, Ethan does.

We started signing with Ethan almost a year ago, as a result of a NY Times (Jan 6, 2004) article which told of the benefits of signing even with a hearing child. Since infants can move their hands better than they can control their tongue, signing allows them to communicate before they can talk, and stimulates language development. They tend to be less frustrated (as are we) because their 'requests' are understood, and they tend to learn to talk faster because they already have word concepts.

We tried signing using another system, but Ethan only picked up a few, important words like 'milk' and 'more' However, we found a set of three videos called Signing Time which showed common signs along with catchy songs, and videos. The 'host' Rachel Coleman demonstrated the signs, and her deaf daughter (Leah) and hearing nephew (Alex) did various videos showing the signs and helping to make connections. Children in different developmental stages demonstrated the signs as well, to show how you might actually see them, since babies sometimes do not sign perfectly, just as they don't pronounce words perfectly.

Ethan loved these videos, and learned a number of signs, including Thank You (which he uses and says 'tank' st the same time)and when we found out that there was another set of three videos coming out, we immediately pre-ordered them.

The new videos are even better, with lively songs, pretty graphics, and even better explanation of signs. My son wakes up and signs for 'sign' (Signing Time!)

We were playing a game with some friends and Ethan came into the room from his bedroom. He climbed up onto my lap, and I showed him the game pieces. He was able to identify the green (doing the sign for green and saying 'ge' and the yellow ('yeh') pieces that were not being used to play. He's still working on purple, but he is learning his colors.

He also has learned signs for many foods, and during the latest playing of this video, signed a number of different signs for fruits when Rachel showed the sign for fruit. He loves these videos and we love the effect it is having on his learning curve.

I HIGHLY recommend the entire Signing Time! series for babies and children who are learning to sign.

  • Welcome to Communication!
    By A18VQWDMNU2BTY on 2004-12-30
This DVD and CD (the whole set of 6, actually) opened the door to new communication with my nondisabled 6 year old, who loved having a "secret language", my nondisabled 2 year old nephew and my speech delayed 2 year old daughter, I don't know how we ever got along without it! A MUST HAVE for any parents interested in seeing what their child has to say!

  • Signing Time Vol. 6 Is one of MY favorite things
    By A3GQWBQLT4I2X2 on 2004-12-30
We discovered Signing Time while researching ASL (American Sign Language) as a 2nd language for our children. We knew we wanted to teach ASL as a 2nd language because of the many benefits such as earlier communication. You can communicate with your baby as young as 8 months old, maybe even younger. What a gift to know what your child needs before they can tell you with spoken words! For more information on the benefits of ASL check out the Signing Time website at www.signingtime.com

We love this volume of Signing Time. The songs are wonderful and work very well in a school setting as well as at home. The rainbow song teaches all the colors of the rainbow. The song I'm really good at... introduces many opportunities to discuss the strengths that everyone has. We are all good at something so let's celebrate. The songs are very catchy so you will find they get stuck in your head. They are fun to sign along with and do not move too fast so even beginning signers will be able to keep up with a little practice.

We love that we get to hear Leah's voice. What a positive experience for children who are Deaf and Hard Of Hearing to see another Child who is Deaf proudly using their voice. Leah does a great job. It is also great for children who are hearing to see that children who are Deaf can and do use their voices. Alex does a great job as well. We love to see the 2 friends/cousins interacting together. We also enjoyed the addition of the frog Hopkins. He helps transition from one theme to another smoothly.

We like that the written word comes on the screen first and then they show the sign. It is very helpful for practicing the signs. It is like a video flashcard. It also helps children develop reading skills because they start to recognize the written word that goes with the sign. We love watching the children do the signs because you see lots of different kids and lots of different skill levels. It gives you an idea of how your child might make the sign at different ages. Rachel also does the sign so you can clearly see the proper way to do it. She has paint on her fingers to help you focus on her finger positions. This is a new addition for Volumes 3-6. Some people find it distracting at first but I found it very helpful.

Each DVD has a section on the menu of ASL tips. This is a good way to get additional information. On this volume they show signs for different types of meat and explain "your welcome". The signs for meat are often the same as the sign for the animal so be prepared to explain this to your child if you let them see this section. The question of how to sign your welcome is a common one so it was good to see it addressed here.

The song during the credits is a great way to learn additional signs that were not covered in the show. You can really add to your signing vocabulary if you pay attention. The new version of the theme song is a little slower (so you can sign along) and has an additional verse. Some may not like it as well as the original but we loved it. We love the original version too so make sure you get both. The older version is in Volumes 1-3. We liked the new verse "Where friends can meet and find we're not so different after all" Isn't that what Signing Time is all about?

I highly recommend this volume of signing time as well as the other 5 in the series. As a mother and a teacher I can say it is truly the best educational tool I have found for teaching ASL to children (and adults too). I hope they make many more and I will buy them all without hesitation. These shows are a labor of love for these families and we are thankful they chose to share with us.

  • More volumes to the perfect gift for any child!
    By A2CPBQ5W4OGBX on 2004-12-31
We were so excited about the next volumes of Signing Time! These are perfect for expanding a basic knowledge of ASL.
Volume 6 would be my favorite if I had to pick. It teaches colors, fruits & veggies, and activities. I am very happy that my 21 month old can now distinguish colors and identify them easily. I do not know why that is easier to do with a sign than a word, but it really is!

Signing Time is a great way to introduce children to a second language, ASL. It is also the perfect way for babies to communicate before they develop speech. I can't count the times we've prevented a temper tantrum! These videos have really given my daughter confidence because she knows she can use signs to tell us what she wants, even when she does not know the word or cannot yet speak it clearly. The second 3 volumes have helped expand our signing vocabulary and really allow us to use ASL more and more. I really like the format of 4, 5, and 6. The signs are grouped into themes and there is a song for every group that really helps us remember the sign. Rachel's enthusiasm for signing also shows and makes learning ASL really fun! The colors on Rachel's fingers have made it much easier for us to learn the signs. I can also pick out the signs in the songs better. I have learned many more signs in the second set than I could pick out in the first set.

  • Time to Sign
    By A2VRQ5Q6JV3LUJ on 2005-01-02
I studied ASL in college and was looking for a way to help my children learn a language that I have come to love. Signing Time has been an answer. My favorite Things has helped expand my boys' ASL vocabulary. It is really nice to have something this entertaining to support what I teach my boys'. My siblings, husband and parents are starting to sign after watching these.

  • Signing Time -- WONDERFUL!
    By A24WKDO1E46NRJ on 2005-01-04
I got Volumes 1-3 right after we had my 2 1/2 yr old tested for language delays. She barely missed the cutoff for services, but we were still concerned. She only had 30 word appoximations! Well, after watching the videos for 1 week, she had picked up 15 signs with the clear spoken word to match! by the end of 5 weeks, she could speak and sign all 100 or so signs from the set! (I also have a 4 1/2 yr old who has also improved with these videos. Plus, my 7 month old daughter is often enthralled with them. She recognizes the sign for "milk" and gets excited when we sign it!)

My husband is Deaf, so we do use sign at home, but she refused to pick up EITHER language. These videos provided a way for her to communicate! Now she is picking up the signs/words from Vol 4-6 just as quickly, and she is stringing words and signs together.

The songs are so fun! You will be singing them even if there are no kids around! I love these videos and what they have given to my daughter!! :)

  • This is definitely one of MY "favorite things!"
    By A7IZ68GS7VZUY on 2005-01-04
My kids got Volume 6 of Signing Time for Christmas, and already my 21 month old daughter is naming colors as we're out and about. "Red car!" or "Green bike!" she says.

Signing Time is fun, but more importantly, it helps babies and kids to communicate more effectively. Afterall, if Mom understands what she's saying, a toddler doesn't have to resort to screaming in frustration. ;-)

  • I love these!
    By A1EQ5DW29LUOYP on 2005-01-04
I may be an adult, but these DVDs couldn't make it easier for someone like me - who learns better from a video than a book - to learn sign language. And 'Signing Time!' is FANTASTIC! The children modeling the signs are adorable, and Rachel Coleman's wonderful songs at the end help incorporate all the signs learned. I can't think of a better way to learn sign language - child OR adult - than with 'Signing Time!'

  • Fantastic!

Volume 6 is awesome! I love learning the colors of the rainbow and fun foods that my daughter loves! This is been my sanity saver because my daughter doesn't have tantrums she isn't frustrated since she can communicate with me! I recommend this to everyone!

  • Fantastic
    By ARX4IZZ7C17TX on 2005-01-06
Vol 1- 6 are all great! No repeat of signs or songs that I can tell. You will learn many many signs and have fun doing so. I highly recommend any and all of them!

  • It's a Veggie, Veggie, Fruit, Fruit, Veggie Day!
    By A3KJU1VI27599Z on 2005-01-06
We can't get enough of Signing Time! My kids love this one! They are asking to eat fruits and vegetables that they would never touch before just because they want to be able to show us the signs that they are learning. This video also teaches a lot of action signs. Walk, run, sit, swim, swing, dance, sing. It's been the best. We can't sit still when it's playing. Great exercise for the kids. The best part of all is the song during the credits. "Shine" is a powerful song. All parents can relate.

  • Outstanding!
    By ALMMFNI74BLBU on 2005-01-06
I have all of the Signing Time DVD's.. and this one is a must have! It's fun to watch and learn WITH your child! I have a 20 month old son that has full hearing and he can't live without these videos! He signs all day long! The songs are wonderful.
I can't say enough about these DVD's... BUY IT! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

  • Signing Time Volume 6
    By A1VXOD67BV1F54 on 2005-08-03
This DVD is wonderful. We have all the videos in the series. We have used these tapes to teach my daughter (who is not hearing impaired) to sign and she now has 25 signs. The songs are incredibly catchy as are the images on the screen. I highly reccommend this DVD.

  • Signing Mom
    By A3CGXJBHJ31YYD on 2005-08-31
I love this series. I introduced them to my son at 10mo and it's been such a success. He's now almost 2 and it's so wonderful to be able to understand what he is saying. Everyday when we get home he asks to watch Signing Time ("Si Ti"), both verbally and in sign language. These DVDs have actually helped him develop his verbal communication a lot more quickly.
I highly recommend this series to any one.

  • Our Favorite

We are huge Signing Time Fans! We own almost all of the Signing Time Videos, but this is our very favorite! We have given it as a gift several times. The music is catchy and makes the signs very easy to learn. My son is two and knows all the words to all of the songs! I highly recommend this DVD!

  • Fantastic

My 2 1/2 year old son has PDD and this entire series of DVDs has helped tremendously in our efforts to learn sign language. My son's attention span is generally limited, but he'll sit down and watch an entire Signing Time DVD. What's move important, he retains what he learns. This series is not just ment for people with special needs, it's for anyone who wants to learn ASL and the combination of music and demonstration is just wonderful.

  • WONDERFUL!
    By A10IRMPXV0QGOP on 2007-08-14
My 2 year old loves all the Signing Time videos we have, and the sign language has helped us out 10 fold since he was about 5 months. I would recommend all the signing time videos to ANYBODY if you are interested at all in learning sign language, and especially if you have children at home. A super easy to learn format, lots of music and fun visuals for kiddos. Signing time has got to be the best product I have ever come across for my family.

  • Wonderful for teaching children and adults!
    By A12M5WFQOJ9RNO on 2007-08-23
My granddaughter who is 2 loves these and she can now sign well over 100 words and is learning her alphabet. She can say her alphabet and try's to sign them as she says them. It has created a wonderful bonding time for her and I. We will talk to each other in sign. It is so fun!She has been learning with these since she was 6 months. Never to early to start.

  • Excellent!
    By A2FZZYBZKXBD3P on 2007-09-23
The Signing Time videos are excellent! They are so fun and catchy! This one, that shows the signs for the colors, is my son's favorite. We're slowly collecting all of them, since they are just so fun.

  • Signing Time is Best Sign Language Series for Kids (and parents)
    By A1JO36IAFPSSNT on 2007-10-22
The Signing Time video series are great. I began teaching my hearing child sign language when she was 5.5 months old. She now knows over 200 signs--largely because of this series. She even knows her colors (and she's only 17 mos old) because of this series. Forget Brainy Baby and Baby Einstein. Give your kids something really great to watch. You'll love it, too.

  • My kids love this DVD!
    By A2VN63U2FWA29R on 2007-11-10
We have several in the Signing Time series and this is by far the favorite. We have 3 daughters -- 5, 3, 1 -- and we began using Signing Time with my oldest daughter when she had some developmental delays. We loved being able to sign with her and have continued with our younger girls, as well. We find ourselves singing and signing the songs throughout the day. You will not be disappointed with a Signing Time product!
