I LOVE IT By A32Q5HN7RQN6GL on 2007-08-25
I looked at about 8 different cooling stands all over the net until I narrowed it down to this one and something called the iLap, which was over 3 times more expensive than this one. My primary criteria for the stand was that it be able to be used while lying down flat on my back not just while sitting at a table/desk or upright on my lap. Another criteria was that it keep my clothing from getting hot from the laptop but that it not have to use one of my USB ports or electricity to power a fan like some of the cooling stands did. And lastly that it fit my 13.3" MacBook. Both Kensington and iLap fit all of this criteria. I ordered this one from Amazon and the iLap from the Apple Store. Both had near 5 star reviews.
The Kensington arrived about 3 days later and I began using it immediately. My primary worries turned out not to be issues when I opened the box and acutually was able to see the product. Those worries concerned two issues. 1. That the laptop would not really be cooler because it would touch the base of the stand which appeared to be a flat sheet of V shaped plastic. The unit actually has a large square hole on the top side to allow air to flow to the laptop base. 2. The laptop would slip around since there didn't seem to be anything to hold it in place (the iLap had a removable suede cushioned lip to hold the computer in place). Again this was unfounded because the same large square hole in the top side had a rubber (or rubber like anyway) ring all the way around it which holds the laptop in place. As a bonus it also fit my 15" Dell laptop. Both the 13.3" and the 15" laptops hang over the sides of the stand but that's not an issue. And the unit can easily be used while laying down in bed without raising the laptop too high or requiring me to place my hands at a weird uncomfortable angle in order to type or use the trackpad.
On the other hand the iLap arrived a day latter and was totally unusable. The removable suede cushion on the iLap required me to place my hands high above the laptop in a really awkward position in order to use the keyboard while lying down and using it without the cushion so I could position my hands comfortably resulted in the laptop not being stable and sliding all over the place. Additionally there was no opening in the iLap to allow air circulation although the stand was made out of aluminum with sand-blasted and silver anodized finish.
Bottom line I kept this Kensington stand (and I'm using it right now) and sent the iLap back for a refund.
I highly recommend this stand. And if it turns out not to be too durable as some have hypothesized and only lasts a year that will cost less than a nickel a day and I will just buy another one. However I don't believe this is going to happen.
Less Than Expected By A3PST6S3QMWSQR on 2007-12-03
I wanted something basic, but this is more basic than I expected. There is a U-shaped metal bar that supports the stand, lifting the top piece up from the bottom. Although there are two slots for it to go in (only), the slots are just an inch or so apart, meaning they are about the same height. The angle of the laptop goes from shallow to slightly shallower.
The description said that it's made for up to 17" laptops. Well, my 17" MacBook Pro is mighty wobbly, and I have to slide the computer down toward me so that the front is sitting on the table top, thereby preventing it from rocking even with normal typing. As a result, I also don't get any height adjustment to the front of the machine, and have about six or seven inches of stand sticking out behind my computer. Now that I look at the product photo again, their computer is slid down on the stand, as well.
The steeper angle is not terrible, but I'd like it steeper, and I've half a mind to chop off the useless back third of the stand with my jigsaw so that it won't take up so much space in my drawer. If I'd bought this locally I'd return it and get something more flexible and more compact.
Good cooling stand on a budget By A1818MQS73JMXK on 2007-07-14
I didn't want to spend a fortune for a cooling stand with fans, etc. This works wonderfully well if you tend to use your notebook in your lap. I found my legs (living in Florida and wearing shorts) got too warm directly under the notebook.
My notebook does slide off it a little when it's on a tilt, but no biggie. This is a good, reasonably priced, way to go. Nothing fancy, but it does the job.
Does the job! By A3HREQMG17BUWQ on 2008-01-24
Five stars seemed just a bit too generous for such a cheap plastic pad. Maybe 4.5 would be more accurate? Anyway, we wanted to conserve battery life by avoiding the fan driven cooling pads. I'm happy to report that IT WORKS! It keeps my mom's 17" HP notebook nice and cool. A simple and inexpensive solution; you can't ask for much more.
Poor quality but functional By A1Z7KLHMPZGAVA on 2007-10-10
The moment I opened the stand, the plastic hinge at the back broke off. This is made poorly and is very flimsy. However, it is light weight, portable, and functional. For the price, it wasn't worth the hastle of returning it. I am using it broken and it still functions.
- I recommend the Kensington Lift-off cooling stand
     By AY4E8YF2YR4RN on 2007-08-15
It does keep your laptop cool and it is small enough to carry with you.
- This is worthless!
     By A3Y1704RKF2OL on 2007-10-03
This item is essentially worthless! The laptop wobbles endlessly unless it is so far forward off the front of the stand that it almost hangs off the front of the desk - 2/3's of the stand just takes up space behind. If you put the laptop solidly on the stand, the front of the laptop is elevated close to an inch above the desk surface. If you accomodate by raising your chair so that you aren't reaching up to type, then your feet will dangle off the floor. Avoid this item.

It is not what I expected. It is not one size fits all.
- Does a good job
     By A30SOMPVXH1BSJ on 2007-03-09
I travel a lot and this Cooling stand does a good job, It keeps my notebook cool. The only issue is the rubber stripping will eventually ware off.
- reasonable price, does the job
     By A3CKMSAIMV22L5 on 2007-07-03
I was having trouble with an overheating laptop and this solved the problem instantly. I have a small 13" however, and it slides forward sometimes. The rubbery rim around the hole loosened and slipped a bit because of this, but I simply pulled it up and stuck it back in place. Not exactly something you expect from a quality product, but it only cost me $15 and suits my needs perfectly.
- Functional but uncomfortable
     By A1YN5SU6F7A91D on 2008-05-19
I bought this stand because I use my laptop while lying in bed and wanted something that would allow air flow to help cool the computer. One of the other reviewers indicated that this stand was perfect for my application, but I could not disagree more.
First of all, the "hole" that is supposed to promote colling through air flow. In my opinion, the hole is too small OR they should have more holes spread out to accomodate the various fan locations on laptops.
Secondly, there is not a lot of room for angle adjustment (the adjustment is very limited).
And finally and most importantly, the hinges on the stand protrude so that they tend to "dig into" your stomach area when you are lying in bed or leaning back in a recliner. After a while it can get pretty uncomfortable, so you canot use it for very long (hope that makes sense).
Overall I would say that it is a decent stand for use on a table, desk or on your lap in you are sitting up erect. If you plan on using this stand while reclining or lying down in bed, I woul pass on it (mine is on it's way back to Amazon).
Hope this helps.

- great for your lap top
     By A1183FKPBWTLYL on 2007-01-21
i sit on a large chair using this product to hold my lap top. it is light, sturdy and keeps my lap and lap top cool. great buy for the price.
- LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT
     By A1CMB57FAE8A1S on 2007-09-04
At first, I kinda skeptical about buying it, but once I opened it, I knew it was exactly what i needed. It is so so light about the weight of the TI 83 calculator. It holds my computer perfectly (12.1 inch and about 4 pounds.) The only thing is that it doesn't lift up as high as i would like it too, and there are only 2 adjusting levels. I bought it so i wouldn't have to look down for an extensive time to read, and also I could carry it around campus. It works wonderfully for my purposes. If you want FREE SHIPPING with the price of 11.99 then call office depot, and order on the phone, and ask for free shipping. I did that. Okii, hope this helps.
- Great Product

Works great, but the rubber is starting to come off after only a couple of months. Hopefully super glue will hold the rubber.

This fits easily into my carry bag and is incredible easy to set up and use. It is molded well without any scratching edges and seems to be quite durable. I only use a MacBook Pro 15" and find I use it at home all the time. My order arrived in a timely fashion.
- laptop cooler
     By AJ8V7U9F39Z4 on 2007-09-27
I found this product to be a quality product, that delivers what it says it does. There was an immediate reduction in the heat level from my laptop.Plus there are no fans to deal with. My only concern was i thought it was a little pricy for what it is. Other than that i would recommend this product to any one who wants to reduce heat from a laptop.

I was not sure what a laptop cooling stand was when I ordered it but delivery was prompt, price was reseasonable and I am satisied with the product. It does get my laptop off the table and allows air flow underneath it.

- Helpful product
     By A35KERVSMVS4KZ on 2007-12-05
I have used this stand for several months to prop my iBook G4 (14.1" screen). I have been very pleased with the product. It is not too heavy and fits nicely into my laptop backpack. In conjunction with my iBook it makes typing more comfortable. It only has to levels for height adjustment, but this has not been a problem for me.
- Does What It Says
     By A32OW9YS91F4VI on 2008-04-14
I purchased this to help a problem I was having in my neck and shoulders because my head was tipping to see the notebook's screen. It's working just as expected and I am having some relief in my neck/shoulder area. The gripping material on the top which prevents the computer from slipping holds well. The only drawback is the limited number of choices in adjusting the tilt of the stand.
It does just as it says!

     By A1F8FI234KPE6S on 2007-10-22
This item is convenient to use however, it needs to be about an inch wider to fit my laptop. I like its light weight and the handles make it very easy to pull out of my briefcase for use. I really like it and I'm glad I bought it!
- Kensington Lift -off Portable Notebook computer cooling stand 60149
     By A3UQF0WHU05H68 on 2008-01-18
I like the product, it works well; although, one of the two little plastic pieces broke off rather quickly (the small piece where the stand extends, allows the two pieces of the stand to move/separate). Broke off after 1 weeks use. So far, I am still able to use the product.

It is a inexpensive, convenient stand. And it works well. I carry it in my computer bag and it also use it in bed. It helps my neck and back a lot. I like it.
- The beauty is in the simplicity
     By AGZ6R5S37BGYK on 2008-03-04
This stand works simply by creating more air surface for the notebook to naturally cool off. For most work areas, the stand also correctly positions the notebook for greater typing comfort. I would be concerned about other products that work with fans or other electronics. In this case simple is better.
- Great for the price
     By AAK40URD2KVG2 on 2008-03-31
It does keep laptop cool. Although when you type, it wobbles somewhat, but this could be because mine is a 17. Overall this was a great, inexpensive solution.
- Kensington Lift-off Portable Notebook Computer Cooling Stand - 60149
     By AWHGB7SDTYYO2 on 2008-04-24
I found the stand held my computer on my lap with no problems and definetly direct the heat from my computer away from me during use. I like the product very much and use it constantly each day.
- Good Product, But Not Worth $20
     By A3JILVXOQD1JI1 on 2008-04-28
I like the product and it does what it claims to do; but if you can find something similar for about $10 or less go for it. It's just two pieces of plastic on a hinge with, for lack of a better word, a little kick stand to give you two different heights. The price is the only reason that it did not get 5 stars. Then again maybe I'm just cheap. Lol.
- Worth what I paid
     By A3AYSYSLHU26U9 on 2008-06-18
This is an inexpensive item for a laptop stand. I only paid $19.99 and it is not worth more than that. Nice for occasional use like what I needed, but not durable for everyday use.
