  • Yes, another problem on the adjustment.

    By A3G2G872VHVJMA on 2006-05-02
Yes, it's a decent speed rope for the money and yes, it's extremely frustrating to adjust. For me, the problem wasn't so much in getting the metal cap off (easily done with a simple, sturdy flathead screwdriver pinned in the center of the tab) nor was it in actually adjusting the length of the rope. The problem was in getting the tab back in the handle. The cylindrical metal tab has to be snug in the handle lest it fly off during your excercise, but OH MYYY!!!, getting it back in requires an incredible and equal amount of pressure on all sides at the same time. I spent almost an hour before I finally got lucky and was able to push it back in. Good luck!!

As for the review concerning knots, I can see how they might prove to be cumbersome with the hindering of the motion of the rope. However, I'm not sure why anyone would want to tie knots in the first place. Just cut away the excess rope.

Now that my frustration is gone and my rope is fixed, it does a great job.

  • not easily adjustable

    By A3EFSLEMHNPP6A on 2005-11-09
I have to agree with the other reviewers here- it's a great speed rope, but it's not easily adjustable. You have to remove a cap, tie a knot around the ends, then slide it back in. Fortunately, I'm 6'1", so I didn't need to adjust the rope! Not long enough for people taller than 6'3" in my opinion.

  • easy and fun

    By A1IZ2GZGYTNRLO on 2006-08-02
I read some of the reviews about the valeo jump rope. I should say complaints, because of the difficulty to adjust and cut and pop the top or whatever. I don't know what these people were talking about. It was simple and easy to push the rope up through the handle to make the button on the top of the handle pop off. Then you measure the tube, cut and tie. And then of course jump rope. It's great exercise that you feel, and notice right away.

  • Good, but not perfect

    By A18N1CSWPUU3P5 on 2005-10-17
I haven't owned a speed rope in years, so I am unable to compare/contrast this rope with others on the market. My only complaint is regarding the adjustment. In order to shorten the length, it looks like I'll need a set of pliers to remove the metal collar that is crimped onto each end of the rope. Otherwise, the rope seems sound.

  • Ball Bearing jump rope

    By AF2SHCYORRTAJ on 2005-09-05
For the price it is an excellent jump rope that is capable of pulling off most moves.

My only gripe is that it is a bit hard to adjust.

  • Useless
    By A1D8RRG5LESEHH on 2007-02-28
The adjusting is not the problem, took 2 sec (though remember to measure twice, cut once) The rope itself was useless though, winds up into a useless ball

  • Good Bargin Jump Rope
    By A1QQLK1PWH32V2 on 2006-01-24
Hey, for $8 this is a great jump rope. I had a hard time adjusting it, but I figured it out and now it works perfectly. I would recommend that everyone buy a jump rope. It is a good cardio workout, portable, and cheap!

  • adjusting problem
    By AB6Z9DCEUZT90 on 2006-02-26
As other reviews note, adjusting is an issue. It isn't so much the ease of adjustment, but when you shorten the rope, you tie a knot in the rope and put it back in the handle. Problem is, knot is too big for the handle and negates the functionality of the bearings. So I'm going to have to remove the metal end that is crimped on the end of the rope and re-crimp it at the desired length. Kind of a pain.

  • Good Rope for the price
    By A2RRG6WBTTTEPW on 2006-11-02
a DURABLE ROPE WHICH HANDLES WELL...NOT TOO HEAVY, NICE SMOOTH ACTION

  • A first jump rope I can be proud of
    By AHS4BAJJ4Q37I on 2007-05-16
It took just a minute to adjust the length; the instructions on the flip side of the package cover made it all very clear. It's true that the rope seems to want to twist a little after jumping a bit, but I think it's probably just my inexperience. With time I'm convinced it'll ease up. I like the quality of the handles and the color (solid black). For the price, I don't think you can beat it.

This is a good Jump Rope. Rubber, I think. It's nice and heavy and has a nice swing.
It's pretty easy to adjust the length. Just in case you need a Rule of Thumb for that:
Step on the rope and hold the handles in both hands, elbows close to your body. You have the right length if your lower arms are parallel to the ground and the rope is tight. I actually leave mine a little longer.

    By AMO2LZM0SRXOY on 2007-01-21
Easy to adjust length. After about a month's use, it still kinks and curls up, even after soaking it in water and stretching it out a bit. Jumps fine, but can get tangled up when you stop. I'm a beginnner at jump roping and I'm satisfied with this rope for now.

  • Good Rope
    By ANFGCHPJEZQZM on 2008-04-07
OK, the first point is: this rope costs less than $5, delivered.

    For the price, it's fine.

The handles are lightweight plastic, with a foam cover. They feel comfortable, but I would have prefered if they were a bit longer. There are some rough spots on the handle, left over from the plastic-casting process; these are annoying but easily remedied. In any event, the rough spots are not on the part that you hold when you are spinning the rope. The foam is comfortable and useful, but it will pick up dirt if you lay the rope down in a dusty spot. Each handle has a plastic end cap that snaps into place. I suppose it's conceivable that the end cap could loosen and be lost, but it hasn't happened to me. If it did happen, it wouldn't affect anything at all other than by altering the rope cosmetically.

The rope is adjustable, but you'll need some pliers (and something with which to cut the rope) to do the deed. With tools, length adjustment takes less than a minute.

    The ball bearings work fine.

The rope itself is kinked when it comes out of the package, but this is par for the course with most speed ropes. It's not a problem because as you swing it at a normal pace while jumping it will straighten itself out. Hang the rope when not in use and it will straighten out in time.

There are faster ropes out there, but you will pay a minimum of 3 times as much.

Unless you're a jumprope athlete who has already developed a preference for some other brand or style of rope, this rope will serve you well.

  • Works for me!
    By A1BMT2QBD6Z517 on 2008-06-09
I saw a few complaints about adjusting the length of this rope. However, I had no issues pulling the caps off the end of the handles and did so by hand. Then I measured the length I needed - to measure a jump rope correctly, stand on the middle of the rope with both feet. The ends should come up to your armpits. There were two extra crimp bands included, so I just cut off the extra length, used a pair of small pliers to crimp the new band in place, and put the cap back on. I recommend you use a rubber band wrapped around where you think you need the crimp band first, try jumping with it for a few rotations, then put the crimp band on where the rubber band was. Too easy.

  • an OK product
    By AJGY89N8LUBAN on 2007-09-27
Decent product, really long so you have to cut some off more then likely. Only real downfall of the product, is if you have it rolled up like the picture, or folded, or in any way compacted, it really likes to stay that form, ie not straightening out for the workout.

  • Valeo Speed Jump Rope
    By A9U7U9VVWMGSP on 2007-12-03
I love this jump rope. In my opinion, the rubber ropes have a better feel (in terms of actual rope weight) than the leather ropes. The ball bearings make this rope unbelievably smooth turning. The only reason I have not given it a 5-star rating is because I have not tried adjusting it since it came at the perfect length for me. If making a length adjustment is user friendly, then this is definitely a 5 star product.

  • Very happy with the rope
    By A2A3SZIKFHTYGQ on 2008-01-14
I'm very happy with the rope, despite other reviews it is very easy to change the length.

  • Not A Speed Rope
    By AVVU57OLB2BRV on 2008-02-20
I did a video review on Harbinger Speed Jump Rope PVC 9 Ft Adjustable (Black) in which I also gave it a 3. As speed ropes, both should really be rated 1. All the details are in the other review. (Update) Interesting, an actual demonstration of the ropes in question and a comparison with a lighter rope, and that was unhelpful to 3 people. Makes you wonder who they might work for. Only one unhelpful on the almost identical rope this review links to, wonder why. Maybe that's another reason to avoid this rope - trolls with an agenda. May 21, 2008 - Now 0 out of 4 found it non-helpful. Wonder why they don't leave a comment explaining why.

  • Great product!
    By A2CBLCOD71PWYH on 2008-03-07
This works much better than my Reebok rope and was easy to customize the length.

  • A Hop, Skip, and a Jump
    By A2IDJ0LEN6G1QN on 2008-03-16
I bought this jump rope for the ball-bearing feature. I have gone through several other ropes and they have all failed due to lack of rotation. They usually wear off at the end of the handle. This rope eliminates that problem by smoothly rotating during use. I am also able to increase my speed during jumping. I use this rope mainly for H.I.I.T.

This rope will most likely need to be adjusted by removing the handle end caps. A little finesse is needed when un-crimping the ends. Also, I have had a hard time getting the kinks out of the rope itself. I have had the most luck using a heat gun to limber it up prior to jumping.

Overall I would recommend this rope. Good price, nice handles, and smooth action.

  • Good rope at best
    By A3K6097ACJXYT3 on 2008-04-17
I have been jumping rope for 2 years. I am not an expert, but in my humble opinion I like the speed ropes(the Master is best/the Aero is good too!) from Buddy Lee the best. This is not to say I disliked this rope, but I feel the Harbinger and Buddy Lee ropes performed a bit better. This rope felt a "bit light" at the handles. The handles are comfortable-I removed the sponge grips which I felt gave me a better feel of the rope.

  • You Get What You Pay For
    By A2TLZY19868EXT on 2008-04-19
Used it everyday until the rope broke right at the handle. I adjusted it and then the other side broke. Worked for about three weeks.

I suggest finding one that has a better rope not made out of rubber.

  • It's almost perfect
    By A26NCOPSN97O05 on 2008-04-27
I bought this product a few weeks ago. It's a bit too long for me, I'm 5'6' so I wrap a little bit of the rope on each side. It makes a loud wooshing sound, which was a bit of a downside for me because I prefer to exercise discreetly in my yard. It also leaves welts on your body wherever it hits. You learn not to make any mistakes lol.

But it's a fine product and almost perfect.

  • Good deal
    By A2K6AYUAP5O9NH on 2008-05-20
There are better jump ropes with leather ropes and ball bearings in the handles but if your useing this as part of a regular exercise routine it's great and so isn't the price.

  • A little unsatisfactory
    By A3R6RTYKWNAXYK on 2008-05-23
It works, but is not an ideal jump rope. It is easily creased when folded, causing small kinks in the rope from being folded while packaged. It is not quite as heavy as it needs to be for the best jumping. I liked that it is adjustable.

  • Does the job
    By A23QJJST14T7A9 on 2008-05-23
I needed to buy a new jump rope after my old leather one broke at the handle. I decided to go with a speed rope because I have a Valeo workout ball that has lasted the last couple years for me. The jump rope is a lot faster than a leather one, and the first couple times i used it my arms took a beating from the plastic rope. Once I got used to it though it greatly improved my cardio workout. I use it outside on my concrete patio and it's shown a little bit of wear at the point of contact with the ground, but for the price, I can deal with it.

  • Good flow and rhythm
    By A3IOW6AXC8P8TY on 2008-06-13
But watch your skin, it hurts if the rope hits you as it is some plastic/vinly material that is pliable but strong.

  • Works Well
    By A28ZE634GKCCRE on 2008-06-18
Jump rope is amazing and provides a good workout that is fun. I'm about 6 foot and the rope was a little too long. It was rather easy to alter the size. You just need to cut the rope at one of the ends and use pliers to re-lock the rope. You'll see what I mean when you order. I use every other day as a warm up before the gym. Its comfortable on the hands and is easy to use. I would recommend for beginners and experts.

  • An OK rope, but adjustable? Not easily.
    By A1QCUMGX7UHFL5 on 2008-06-23
As others have said, the big surprise was when I wanted to adjust it. If you don't have pliers, you're going to be stuck. I didn't get any extra crimp pieces with mine, so I had to use a metal pick (typically used for removing cotter pins) to bend one of the existing stops off the end of the rope. Then I cut to the appropriate length, and re-crimped the end with pliers. Was more effort involved than should have been since it's advertised as "adjustable."

The actual operation is pretty smooth. The bearings allow the rope to rotate freely without a lot of friction. The rope itself is some kind of rubbery plastic coated with vinyl. It's pretty heavy, as far as the ropes I've used anyway. The bad thing is if you jump rope in bare feet, this bad-boy nails them when you screw up, and lets you know via stinging pain that you did indeed screw up. Not a big fan of that. I'll more than likely get a different rope just because I'm no jump roping expert, and it'll probably take me a while before I can become good enough to never get nailed in the feet. (Wearing shoes isn't an option since I jump rope on martial arts mats, and I don't feel like grappling on a surface that has had shoes all over it.)

  • It does the job.
    By AHWMZKJ5EKXRZ on 2008-08-07
Well When I did boxing I used jump ropes quite a bit but haven't since and well this one is just as good as the one they had there. It's quite long so you'll have to most likely use it outside. I can't adjust it and I don't know truly if it can but it definitely deserves a 4/5 It does the job I don't understand the difference between this one of any other.
