  • Valeo AW10 Ankle/Wrist Weights

    By A276ZQ40HLF5EL on 2006-10-08
I'm male, 5ft-5in (165cm), 130lbs (60kg). I use these Valeo AW10 weight as ankle weights. I also have similarly designed weights which use cast iron inserts, but for use as ankle weights I prefer these Valeo weights, as the softer inserts are much more comfortable.

When tightened snugly against bare flesh, the 10-lb cast iron ankle weights dig painfully into the top of my foot, and the bones of my ankle. I also wear these Valeo weights "upside-down" so the thick bottom seam doesn't dig into my foot. (Don't worry... the inserts aren't going to "slip out".)

The Valeo AW10 weights fit me snugly enough, but I have them about as tight as they CAN be closed, and the smaller diameter of my ankles is probably similar to an average-sized female, so smaller women may have trouble with them slipping. I don't think anyone smaller than a large male could possibly use these as wrist weights.

Overall, I have been satisfied with the design and construction of these Valeo AW10 Ankle/Wrist weights.

    By A2LXJV0MYJ5EIW on 2006-05-01
    Notes:

-Won't work on wrists at all
-After awhile of usage, it started leaking grains of some type of metal

Other than that, it's a cheap and good bye

  • Valeo AW5 weights are THE BEST!

    By A10CUBZA3HEAV2 on 2005-08-09
I have also purchased weights called 'The Cuff' & another brand - but they don't compare to the Valeo weights. Not only can you remove individual weight packets from each weight attachment - but the entire design is SUPERIOR: Valeo weights close with a 'D' ring plus velcro straps, so the straps don't stick out (I wore a rubber band around the other designed weights to hold the strap down, lest it catch on something &/or come loose) & the Valeo's are SECURE & SAFE! They stay exactly where I put them around my ankles when I walk through brush, etc. The Valeo's don't twist or loosen, regardless of what I'm doing. I would recommend these over all the just 'wrap around velcro straps' closures, without the 'D' ring design, to everyone considering buying any wrist or ankle weights. Don't waste money on the inferior designs (that actually cost MORE!).

  • awkward

    By A8MFQXBVIUA7W on 2006-02-23
I bought these weights to go on my wrists so I could build up strength. I have a hard time wearing them because they fit very awkwardly. They don't adjust tight enough to fit my wrists (I'm a woman) so they eventually slip off. They are kind of long so it makes it difficult to wear them while doing other things. What attracted me to these weights was the adjustable weight (5-10 lbs.) but after you take a weight out of its pocket it is a real pain to get back in.

  • It was unclear to me

    By A34I7EOTD1HQZ on 2007-05-08
This product is 10lbs total. Each leg is only 5lbs. Just so you know.

  • ankle weight slips during use.
    By A63AAUWRJ18PF on 2006-03-20
It's impossible to keep it from slipping around on your ankle no matter how tightly you pull the velcro strap. It could have been designed better.

  • confusing description!!!
    By A2MQI4XJHLMA4D on 2007-05-23
I was expecting two 10# adjustable ankle weights. Instead I got two adjustable 5# weights. Description was not clear. Not worth sending back due to the weight and cost of shipping. If you are very weak, these might be adequate. But even older adults doing strength training soon are able to lift more than 5 pounds per leg. Difficult to put on. Would very much benefit from a velcro stap to hold weights on ankle, until strap is put on and tightened. I like the 7 1/2 pound adjustable weights by Millenium better.

  • good product
    By A160QFTFJ2ACLT on 2007-10-06
no complaints except the title says 10 lbs, thats both weights together, not ten pounds each!

  • What more do you need?
    By A146H6A41B26QT on 2005-08-11
These weights are easy to use, well-padded, adjustable in 2 pound increments, and should fit limbs of all sizes. Why pay more?

  • bulky and slips off
    By A22R2DCWAUS79V on 2005-12-04
The weights are not very good for using around the wrists. I have medium/large female hands and it falls off easily unless you strap it in this awkward way (I have to tuck a lot of material under itself so that the velcro can be adjusted tightly enough). Also, the insertable weights themselves are bulky and cut into my wrists. Other than this, though it seems pretty functional and as described is adjustable for heaviness.

  • velco straps break easily
    By A1SGUICR4I25BV on 2005-10-21
After having this item for only two months one of the velco straps broke. I wouldn't purchase from this manufacturer again. I have similar ankle weights I bought at Big 5 over 20 years ago and the straps are still holding strong.

  • Heavy, Heavy, Heavy, but Adjustable
    By AVXGN90BU95P8 on 2007-03-23
While ten pounds on each wrist or ankle may not sound too extreme, any extended period of time with these weights on is going to fatigue just about anyone. Having said this, it should be noted that adjusting the amount of weight is a simple matter. Given the range of weight options, the overall appearance is somewhat large and bulky. If you are wearing these things, you really can't hide it. However, if you want to give a turbo shot to your daily walk or other activity, these things can't be beat.

  • Excellent Product
    By A15VFI41YO06LS on 2006-03-07
I am very happy with this product.Able to adjust to either leg which is great since I have recently had surgery and it helps to augment the physical therapy. I highly recommend this product.

  • Not Exactly What I was Expecting
    By A2UG3FMD9U52K6 on 2006-11-09
I wanted ankle weights to wear during workouts. These weights are so bulky around my ankles, I can't walk or run normally. They are fine for leg lifts and stationary exercises.

  • Nice and heavy
    By A11FV5SOPO09DK on 2006-12-20
I'm rather large (6'3" and 240lbs) and I needed more weight than the average person.

These fit the bill. They are comfortable and adjustable (2 lbs at a time).

They go well with Jumpsole shoes.

I get a really good workout with these, an X vest, and Jump sole shoes. I walk my dogs twice a day and on at least 1 of those walks I'm loaded with weights. More exercise in less time. These ankle weights are the key to a great workout since you must lift your leg with every step.

I don't know that running in these would be a good idea though. May be bad on the joints. But I'm no doctor.

    Great quality and great comfort.

  • Good product, Great price!
    By AR1W0OYRD7JHT on 2005-11-22
I am happy with the weights and they are definately worth the money spent. The weights have removable 1 lb. sand packets and have 2 velcro straps that actually work! I think this is a great addition to a workout or just cleaning the house. :)

  • barely acceptable
    By A1Y053Q4TZ9NFR on 2006-08-21
I have one big problem with these ankle weights: they slip down and don't stay on well. I keep tightening them to no avail. so exercise is an exercise in frustration. Other than that, they seem to be well constructed and of good quality. I'm sure they will last a long time. But I don't recommend them, regardless.

  • Not good for wrists
    By A2N06H1BF36WBQ on 2007-01-09
This item is advertised as ankle/wrist weights - they are way too big for wrist weights but as ankle weights they are great.

  • Not what I expected
    By A3NEISC2GFWM67 on 2007-05-07
The product is ok. It's not great. It's a little bulky to have on your ankles, and is way too bulky for the wrists. The sandbags are difficult to take out and put back into the slots. It would probably work better if you were a bigger person. It's too big and b ulky for me. I'm 5'2" and under 100 lbs.

  • Excellent

I bought these for my mother, and they are great. It is very easy to adjust the amount of weight and they are comfortable to use.

  • Valeo AW5 Ankle/Wrist Weights
    By A276ZQ40HLF5EL on 2006-10-08
I'm male, 5ft-5in (165cm), 130lbs (60kg). I use these Valeo AW5 weights as wrist weights. I also use wrist weights similarly designed, but using cast iron inserts, which are smaller for the same weight. For my wrists I have found the cast iron weights superior, as the smaller size allows them to concentrate more of the weight at the farthest possible distance, so they feel heavier than the slightly larger Valeo weights.

However, I also have the heavier (10-lb) version of these weights (Valeo AW10), which I use as ankle weights, and I feel the softer inserts are superior to the cast iron version when used as ankle weights, simply because of the painful pressure the cast iron inserts exert against the top of my foot, and against the bones of my ankle. The softer Valeo inserts are much more comfortable for use as ankle weights. (I even wear them "upside-down" so the thick bottom seam doesn't dig into my foot. Don't worry... the inserts aren't going to "slip out".)

The Valeo AW5 weights fit snugly enough, but I have them as tight as they CAN be closed, and the small diameter of my wrists is probably similar to an average-sized female, so smaller women may have trouble with these weights slipping off. (Try holding something in your hand to keep your fist clenched.)

Overall, I have been satisfied with the design and construction of these Valeo AW5 Ankle/Wrist weights.

  • Not Bad
    By A2UP86RWPBHO95 on 2005-07-19
The weight is good but sometimes it becomes difficult to put on and starts hurting your ankles.

  • Leg weights
    By A1983FHJZRDDJY on 2006-08-14
WOULD HAVE PREFERRED METAL WEIGHT INSERTS THE SAND FILLED ONES
DIFFICULT TO RE-INSERT. NEXT TIME WILL ORDER SUCH.
ALSO THE VELCRO WEARS OUT SOMEWWHAT QUICKLY. THIS MY FIRST USE OF LEG WEIGHTS AND YOUR PRICE WAS THE MOST RESONABLE.

  • aaa
    By AVTV4VHK1PUGQ on 2007-02-03
Well made, but you have to be a King Kong to wear them on your wrists.

  • Terrible
    By A2AVQJVUIPURNR on 2007-05-08
These are terrible...once you take the "weight" out of the pocket, it's virtually impossible to put it back in...the strap broke after i used it twice, and the actual removable weight leaks some disgusting black stuff that got all over my floor...not recommended at all!

  • Best wrist weights ever
    By A29T4H9JDG5OD4 on 2007-12-07
I'm thin, quadriplegic and working out on a daily basis, i've had many wrist weights but this one tops them all, and of course, it has a great price.

  • Ankle Weights
    By A31LDKO0TT46G9 on 2008-03-06
I am quite satisfied with the construction and ease of use of this product. The velcro is strong. The weights are easy to insert and remove. It is easy to strap them on my ankles and take them off.

  • Bulky and cumbersome
    By A3KOE23N2B4YU3 on 2007-09-14
I've been weight training for years and even do competitive stairclimbing. I bought these with the idea that I would use them to train for stairclimbing.

I'm not a small woman...5 feet 8 inches, 135 lbs, but these weights were almost impossible to keep on my ankles...they just don't seem to be made for an average woman's ankles.

I may pass these onto my husband who is 6 feet 2 and 220 lbs. I would not recommend these for an average sized woman.

  • good for walking
    By AJGY89N8LUBAN on 2007-09-27
Really, this is a great product for walking, or cleaning, or just being around the house...But don't run with these since they don't stay in place. I like mine, and use them in spurts.

  • Good for larger ankles
    By AONYJQJUEQCEU on 2007-12-06
These weights are heavy. However, if you are a female with small ankles, these weights will be to large. Would not recommend for small ankles. I can not even wrap them around my wrist because they would fall off from not getting tight enough.
