  • Fantastic !!!!

    By A3I9VSSDDPG477 on 2005-12-03
It is superb !!!! it is basically an equivalent of bean bag mount for C series. it doesn't slip so easliy, even in rough turns. Garmin is truly an innovator !!! This mount works perfectly for a curvy dash board & for flat ones as well.
It is friction based, no adhesive, screws, stiking on windshield etc.

Only one Q: Wonder what will happen in a crash, will this fly & hit my children in the back ? this will be scary, i hope not. the reason i am worried is that the 3 bases are darn heavy !

  • much more portable

    By AQ3THKWYIHGPH on 2006-11-14
Dash-Mount is much better than the suction cup. It moves easily from car to car (in our case, between the Astro-Van and the VW NB convertible). It's easy to remove from the dash by picking it up. Will not slide on dash unless you tip the car over.

I wish this mount was the standard mount and the suction mount was the optional.

    PLUSes:

    + stays put
+ easily transfer from car to car
+ power cord stays attached to mount.
+ great price! here on Amazon.com

    No minus

  • Great accessory - this should be given with the product instead of the suction cup

    By A2MWCEW8KDP0J4 on 2006-10-10
I bought the C340 recently and have been very satisfied with it. However, the suction cup mount gave me trouble on my recent trip to california. I had attached the suction mount to the rental car. After two weeks of roaming in the California sun, I was stunned when I found out that the suction cup had fused to windshield. I couldnt get it off and so had to shop for a new mount. This dash mount is really good especially since it is not glued or vacuum attached to anything. The product description on amazon "the mount is hardware-free: simply attach the included adhesive disks--one for each leg--and then connect the StreetPilot to the top." gives the impression that it uses adhesive which is incorrect. I am very satisfied with this product

  • Dash mount non slip pad

    By AS4EMKTYY7VKU on 2006-03-26
This device should be the standard way of mounting the navigators. For security I like to place the device down on the floor out of the way while leaving the car parked. It is handy for moving the GPS from car to car. The original mount takes to long and is ackward to remove and attach to the windshield.

  • Better than the suction mount

    By A2T2B64HSQZFMT on 2006-07-22
I found out the hard way that the factory-included suction mount isn't very dependable, unless you find the perfect place on the windshield to stick it to. After mounting it onto the windshield and giving it a slight tug, it seemed like it had a pretty solid grip. However, midway through the drive while I was turning, the suction mount along with the C340 just fell off. I understand that the system is pretty heavy, but I don't like expensive technology falling to the ground at random times, so I ended up paying extra for this dashboard mount. Works great. I wish there was an option for including this in the original package, but business is business and Garmin wants my $$$, so I'll have to pay extra.

  • must for people who don't want the windshield mount
    By A3W33N3KYNS9OM on 2006-03-17
I bought this due to the California law mentioning that nothing can be attached to the windshield 'cause it blocks the drivers' view. This dash mount works better than what I think of. It never moves, at least in my car. I love it a lot. Highly recommended.

  • Forget Suction Cups
    By A2D6V8WQTJQU15 on 2006-10-05
I went to the west coast (CA NV AZ) for a vacation and this came just in time before our flight. I drove to and from the airports, Vegas to the Canyon to Sedona, and SF to Tahoe to Muir Woods and back and to Salinas-Carmel-Monterey then back to SF again. This dash mount performed excellently. No problem even with sudden breaks. It just moved a little, perhaps 1/8" even on those SF 45-degree inclines. No need for a velcro or glue. It's highly transportable, like my GPS. As long as there's room on the dashboard, any c340 is perfectly safe. It came with a cigarette lighter cord and charged my c340 too. The suction cup with my c340 does not hold very long, maybe 30 min., max. Although it is worth the extra money, this should have been included in the GPS package, in my opinion. It's a must attachment. I couldn't stress it more.

  • Great product - Works great with my Garmin C330
    By A1SC1O4D4RGYUK on 2006-08-23
I bought this Dash Mount to use with my Garmin C330 GPS for our trip to California. We drove from LAX to San Diego, back up to San Francisco, San Jose and back to LAX. It never slipped or fell even while driving on very steep hills in San Francisco. It works great not only in rental car, but I use it in my own car as well since it can be easily removed

  • An absolutely essential accessory.
    By A1IUTYIY6PW8DU on 2006-11-04
This is an absolutely essential accessory for your Garmin c-series GPS, for two reasons.

First, the windshield suction cup mount supplied with the GPS isn't as reliable as you might think and hope. It will grip tightly, but at completely unpredictable times, it will suddenly release, dumping your GPS onto the floor. When that happens, you'll grab for it, and the results of doing that at highway speeds could be catastrophic. I think this might be caused by changes in the temperature of the windshield as you drive into and out of the sun, turn the heat up and down, etc.

Second, in some states, it's illegal to obscure the windshield with anything, and the ticket for doing so can be significant. Even if it's not illegal, it's not a good thing, and this mount solves that problem.

The mount is well-built, fits the GPS perfectly, and works exactly the way it's supposed to.

  • Great Item, for the Garmin StreetPilot 320 Series
    By A17QV9OCXTZ1VI on 2006-05-24
Hey, at first I was a little afraid it would slide all over. But this thing is GREAT!
Does not slide and stays put. Plus with the power cord attached, makes it even better! Great Deal! As a added item, I added a screen protector, which appears to cut the glare of the face of the Garmin. Found elsewhere on Amazon.com are the plain ole' Palm screen protectors, that just happen to work. Just a idea that helped me.

  • Just as advertised.
    By AZ4352XO4HH3M on 2007-05-10
The mount is very study and attaches to the GPS with no problem. It's flexible and adjustable. The mount stays put on my dashboard even on bumpy roads.
It's great though I wish it was included with my Garmin C340 and was priced a little lower.

  • GPS Mount
    By A1CS9CXPG6KPOH on 2006-02-26
The GPS mount work excellent for on the dodge...........but on the GMC it slid because the dash doesn't have a big flat area.

  • Why buy it?
    By A3PHXSUVXX1D7P on 2007-04-26
I bought a Garmin c340 and heard about this mount. So I got one from Amazon. I liked the setup so much that I bought another GPS and mount for my brother. Many users wish it came with the GPS and gladly pay extra to get it. It has many things going for it that the window mount doesn't.

    1. The GPS unit does not have to be removed from the mount every time
you exit the car. This saves wear on the delicate contact points
and reduces possibility of damage from the many mounts and dismounts.

    2. Experience shows that with multiple drivers, units are often
improperly mounted, resulting in screen damage due to falling and
hitting the console. There have also been reports of drivers
losing control from trying to catch the falling unit.

    3. By placing the entire unit/mount on the floor when leaving the
car, there's no telltale sign that you have a GPS. Police report
thieves casually walk down Mall parking lots looking for the empty
window mount, thus knowing which cars to look closer at.

    4. The 3 legs of the spider mount are softly padded so as not to mar
or slip from wherever it's placed on the dash. Yet the mount is
flexible enough to allow it to be placed in a variety of positions
to accommodate different dash contours, drivers, and sun
conditions. The latter-sun conditions-can often make viewing the
    screen a problem.

    Get one...you won't be disappointed.

  • Not sure why this is highly rated
    By AZYWG20GP2ETU on 2007-07-21
I don't get it. This thing slides around and falls in my Avalon when the GPS is INSTALLED. Do yourself a favor and look at the number of reviews talking about sliding/falling off. The strangeness is these people rate it highly after the mount just let a $300 GPS hit the ground. There are more than a few of these. If you still want to order it then take it for a test drive (GPS installed) with a few hard turns. If it comes off send it back.

  • garmin dash mount
    By A3NJM8NEJBSE1X on 2005-09-26
The dash mount works great. The flexable arms allow u to fit the dash mount on flat or curved surfaces.

the only thing i have is that I wish it had more grip power as it will slide if you do a lot of braking and go on rough roads.

    Otherwise a great product.

  • What happens in an Accident?
    By A1G0DSL415NKXU on 2006-05-31
I don't think you need to be a PHD in physics to figure that out. It weighs a lot heavier than a infant/toddler/child-mirror, yet it doesn't have any adhesives to hold it down... only weight. Yet, if you get pulled over with small children on board, you'll get a ticket for having one of those child-mirrors.

A person is held down in his/her seat by weight alone, and what happens to a person who isn't buckled-in in an accident? That person can becomne a bouncing projectile, and kill the other 3 passengers who ARE bucked-in....

Now think about what a small, dense, hard object would do to children in a backseat...

  • dash board is better than suction cup mount
    By A11DHMW3KQOYUN on 2006-08-31
I got the unit at a good price from Amazon. Now I can easily move the unit away from the car window after I park and the sun glare is less when you move the thing away from the sun. It actually came with the car charger cord for the price.

  • slips around too much
    By A2GD1TQYSAODTQ on 2006-12-01
I've had this mount for a few months now and it keeps slipping off my dashboard. I drive a 2002 Honda Accord and when I accelerate or turn it always slips off. It has fallen off my dashboard numerous times. I'm highly disappointed despite what everyone has said about this item.

  • MUCH better than the window suction device
    By A1PGX0TMQM2G2D on 2007-09-15
If you live in a cold climate, like we do, during the winter you would be driving down the road one day and the suction cup would come loose and your $300 Garmin GPS would go FLYING across the dash and into the floor!

Luckily, I caught mine before it hit the floor!

No more - this device works GREAT and keeps my GPS in plain view without blocking the windshield like others that adhere via suction cup.

  • Garmin Dash Mount for StreetPilot
    By A31PVEXPK9MPPF on 2006-08-03
Great product; performs to my expectations. Holds securely the Garmin GPS to dashboard of car. What I really like about it is...their are no permanent adhesives to stick to your dashboard making it removable and transferable. Also because it sits on the dashboard it allows for a lower profile position as compared to the windshield mount.

  • Street Pilot c330 Mount
    By A2719HVO6ZV1DO on 2006-08-30
Arrived earlier than expected, and performs very well. I use it in two vehicles.

  • Great Dash Mount
    By A2J62GQQ8I04J3 on 2006-11-22
I bought this unit based on the great reviews it got, and when I went to use it, my C320 kept falling in my lap when I would accelerate. Then I thought about how I mounted it on my dash, and realized I had it backwards.

The Garmin name on the mount should face the driver. The single foot goes towards the driver and the two feet towards the windshield. I did it the other way initially, as I wanted the C320 closer to the driver.

I bought two C320s and have one mounted to the windshield with the enclosed suction cup mount and one in a second vehicle with this dash mount. As noted, the dash mount is very portable, and has it's own included power cord. It would be more cumbersome to move the suction cup mount into a different car, or to take with us on a trip to use in a rental car.

The only negative comments I can make are minor. The C320 tends to vibrate a bit, up on the dash mount. In addition, the screen of the C320 gets more direct and ambient light on the dash, than it does mounted by the rear view mirror.

Both mounts are working fine for now, and we are waiting to see if the windshield mount suction cup fails, as some people have commented on before we decide if we will purchase a second dash mount.

  • Dash mount won't stay on dash
    By A2RF2F637MR57A on 2007-02-10
I have a BMW, Audi, and Jeep. This mount won't work on the BMW because the cowl around the dashboard is too steep. On the Audi and Jeep there is a good flat spot to mount it, but if you accelerate or corner, then it flies into your lap, or into the lap of your passenger. I tried cleaning the dashboard really good and making better contact, but any driving above the typical grandmother level will send the thing flying. Then to send it back you have to refund Amazon its "free" shipping and pay for return shipping as well. So it cost me $15.00 to learn that this piece is a piece...

  • Accident concerns
    By A2YTC2BJZO3XDK on 2006-07-06
Um, I don't know if this thought has only crossed my mind, but if you get into an accident, it's assumed that you're moving forward right before you get hit, right? newton's laws of physics state that if there is a sudden directional change, an object will have the tendency to move in the same direction as it was before the directional change. therefore, if a car is moving forwards and suddenly stops, an object that is not secured down is going to continue to move in a forward direction. the unit would most definitely fly and hit the windshield in this case.

the only way it would fly backwards and hit someone in the backseat is if you're driving in reverse at a ridiculous speed and come to a screeching stop all of a sudden. and if you're doing that, your children deserve to get smacked around a little.

goodness gracious. it's basic physics! silly people.

  • Love this item!!!
    By A3GT7OY6REMXH8 on 2006-07-08
I had just gotten the Garmin C340 Nav system (with suction cup mount) when I found out that it is illegal to adhere anything to your windshield in California. Also, I leased my car so I didn't want to use the super-stick alternate dash mount it came with. I looked around for a weighted dash mount. When I came across this one, I wasn't sure that it would be sturdy enough to hold the C340... but I was thrilled at the results. The three-pronged "Mickey Mouse ears" are heavy enough to hold the system in place without marking up the finish. My dash top is relatively flat so it works great (however, on curvier dashes it can slide a bit). It's also flexible enough to be tossed in my glove compartment. The "ears" bend right up. This is a great item!

  • not as good as it claims
    By A1ONBF7UJNB01P on 2006-07-31
Basically, this Dash mount expects the dashboard on my cars(BMW M3 and S2000) is as flat as my dinning table so it won't fly like a UFO if i make a turn. Therefore, i have no choice but to stick with the one which comes with the original package of my C340. Honestly, i don't recommend it to the owners of Bimmer/Honda.

  • Fabulous!
    By A3QOAQUE929D33 on 2006-08-22
I bought this after playing with my son's Garmin and realizing that when I got my Garmin, it would be such a hassle to try to stick and unstick the silly gizmo to my Mini windshield each time I used it. This sits nicely on the dash and when I park, just slip it under the seat and no one is the wiser. No fuss no muss for me. Even on rough roads it moved ever so slightly. The best part is that my son has been the trend setter for electronic stuff and this time, Mom was the one to find something he didn't have:)

  • You wouldn't think this concept would work, but it does...perfectly!
    By A306ORH5W5IAB8 on 2007-03-09
I have a Garmin StreetPilot C330 and had it mounted in the car with the suction-cup cradle that comes with it. To my annoyance the suction cup would lose its grip after a while and sooner if the temperature outside changed drastically.

I got so fed up with having to put the darn thing back up on the windshield the round marks it left there that I decided to research the alternatives. I hate buying after-market/third-party accessories for anything I own...mainly because they almost always fall short of my expectations. Hence it was only natural for me to try and find out what Garmin itself had to offer.

This Dash mount was the best logical solution right off the bat. I was a bit skeptical in its ability to hang onto the dash when making turns because the actual "legs" don't seem to have much of a grip when you inspect them closely. As it turns out, I was wrong.

I have had this Dash Mount in my fiancé's car for about a year now and it has worked flawlessly. Once you have it on the dash, you can rest-assured that it will NOT move regardless of how many sharp turns you take. Unless of course you pick it up and put it down in a different spot.

The quality of the product itself is top-notch and it is much more aesthetically pleasing than its suction-cupped counterpart. Additionally it is much easier to adjust the viewing angle of the C330 while it is in it. I personally think that Garmin should ship out all its GPS Navigation units with THIS mount instead of the usual suction-cupped ones.

For anyone who is considering or already owns a Garmin StreetPilot, I would strongly suggest getting this right away. Trust me, your experience with your GPS will be much smoother.

  • Good except check out the shape of your dash board
    By A17MIPGI8MY5C5 on 2007-07-16
I recently purchased this and have had it for about a week. I normally use the suction mount (and love it) but am going to California for a road trip soon. Apparently the suction mounts are illegal there, so I decided to invest in the dashboard mount.
Overall, I like it and feel it was a good purchase. However, I wanted to mention a couple of things to a potential buyer.
First, the full "wingspan" of the mount is over 6 inches (I think it's about 12 inches.) So, because of how my dashboard is shaped (ie there's a dip right in the middle for a clock), I can't put it in my ideal spot (ie far enough away so that is in the corner of my eye when driving and still reachable without having to sit forward or reach.) One of the "legs" of the mount always seems to not lie flat and ends up in the "dip" where the clock is. With the suction cup mount, I could place it exactly where and how I wanted it.
Second, there's no way I would have noticed this earlier but my dashboard slopes down. I noticed other people have commented that they have slopey dashboards and haven't had an issue. I've noticed that bit by bit the mount will slide and twice now has eventually slid off the dashboard while I'm driving. Kind of a bit distracting while one is driving!
I think the next couple of weeks I'll probably fiddle with it a bit more to find a good place for it, but I think it's going to take some more trial and error than I had originally thought it would. And it'll be interesting to see how it'll work in the rental we'll have for that California trip.
Overall, like I said, I'm quite happy with the purchase. Just two things to keep in mind, especially since you can't play with the item etc beforehand if you're buying it online.

  • Required accessory
    By A2CSYZSTQ2596U on 2006-02-23
Works great. As good or better then the one included with our previous unit, 2610. This should be included in California packaging of C-series. It is not legal to use as windshield mount in this state. Very clumsy for me to use suction on dash.
