Microwave Egg Boiler By A2U9SI5ZJUGN3R on 2005-10-02
It works great, and it's small (6" high, 5" diameter) and easy to use. May require some experimentation to get times correct for your own microwave. For me: 7 minutes for soft, 8 min for medium, and 9-10 min for hard eggs on high power (700W microwave).
It does get very hot, so you need to remove it from the microwave with a potholder or towel. I place the whole thing under the cold tap, then remove the top, and cool the eggs under running water for a minute before peeling.
The Best Egg Boiler I've Found By A3EY63GMPJMWNL on 2006-03-25
I can't boil eggs that come out perfectly, too many variables. But with the Nordic Egg Boiler, I am a happy camper. You have to experiment with the first two attempts to get the times right (your microwave power and time to cook the eggs per the instructions). But once you've got it down, you get "soft boiled eggs, medium boiled eggs, and hard boiled eggs (may I add, they are easy to peel, very easy!)". On my microwave, I set the time on high to 12.30 minutes. Thats it. I walk away. The microwave beeps at me. So what, let them sit there. When I'm ready I take them out of the microwave (use pot holders - it's still hot), and run them in the tray over cold water. Perfect eggs, whether soft boiled, medium, or hard boiled. I did not want a machine that had it's own heating elements, those machines in time, will break down from the moisture created, and this will result in increased cooking times or complete failure of the unit. The Nordic Egg Boiler works, it is easy to use, and it is simple to use. Nuff said....
Makes perfectly cooked eggs! By AR37H1R18GLSU on 2006-03-15
I've used many egg cookers and this is the best! It works so easy - fill with water, add eggs, and microwave for 8 minutes. The eggs come out perfect every time. Its very compact and easy to store.
It Works! Amazing! By A1STFKYNMSCXTA on 2005-05-08
I've tried some other microwave egg cookers. None of them cooked evenly. This is so easy, you can have 4 hard cooked eggs in 8 to 10 minutes, soft cooked in less. What's more, they seem to peel perfectly.
Horrible! Eggs blew up twice! By A58N07M0ZCYMB on 2007-09-30
I've been using this product for about 3-4 months now.. and eggs blew up twice. Seems you have to keep with the same brand/size of eggs or if you buy another brand (even if the same size), they'll take less/more time and then blow up in a microwave. Very scary to hear the huge BOOM and extremely unreliable! After the blow up, the microwave is very hard to clean - but the worst is the top part of the egg cooker, blown up egg sticks to it and nothing will scrape it off.. i finally threw out mine!
- Great Quick Eco-Friendly Egg Cooking
     By A3V6Z4RCDGRC44 on 2008-03-23
I love hard boiled egg - but it's so wasteful to turn on the stove to boil a pot of water just for me. With the NordicWare egg boiler you can cook up hard boiled eggs on demand, in a low-imapact, ecologically sound manner!
First, a warning. NEVER microwave eggs in a microwave without a device like this! An egg is a completely sealed object. If you just tossed eggs into a microwave and turned it on, they would explode and make a gigantic mess. Usually the solution for this is to "poke a hole in the egg" which as you might imagine is an iffy proposition.
So how does the NordicWare Egg Boiler Work? Well, it is actually pretty cool. First, you put the eggs, 1-4 of them, onto a little internal rack which is sealed by metal. Normally you don't want to put metal into a microwave because it reflects the rays of the microwave. In this case it's a good thing. It means the eggs are NOT touched by the microwaves at all. They are shielded.
So how do they cook?
Beneath that aluminum "protective cage", you put water. So the water DOES heat up because it's not shielded. You are in essence ONLY cooking the water. The water then steams the eggs.
So on our microwave - 1300 watts - I cook 4 eggs for 6 1/2 minutes. Then I let them sit for say 15 minutes to cool off. They are perfect! Also, it takes no "stove watching". I pop the eggs into the container, pop it into the microwave, and forget about it. Eventually I come back and either toss the eggs into the fridge for later or at them.
The cooker itself pops open in to 3 parts - the egg top, egg bottom, and the "rack" and all 3 go into the dishwasher without any problem. Super easy cleanup. It's not even like they are "dirty" - they only touched water, after all. So really you could just wipe them down if you wanted to.
I haven't had any problems with egg explosions. I cook my eggs to "just about hard". So if somehow I got smaller eggs in a batch, they might cook to "medium hard" - but they wouldn't explode. I think you would normally have to be cooking your eggs to "super hard" to get an egg to explode by going slightly smaller on the egg size.
Highly recommended!
- Add a little time and you'll have great hard boiled eggs
     By A1FU2YUUCWMFXI on 2006-01-30
I bought this on a whim for $5, and it has been handy to have. I add time to both the cooking time and the waiting time, and the eggs come out great. They were a little bit undercooked at the recommended times. I do find that the water is quite hot when I take the cooker out of the microwave, but nothing that rubber gloves can't handle with ease. I've only made hard boiled eggs with it that are cooled before eating, but I've been happy with how this little contraption works.
- Erm...
     By A1G6IXEKFE0ICU on 2006-06-16
I bought this because it had such good reviews... I got one and used it a few times perfectly without problems. until it blew up in the microwave. yep, BLEW up. Now Im sure i did everything as i was meant to.. so i really am being objective about this review..
what can i say? this was my experience, ive decided to buy a more reliable egg cooker which does not involve the microwave...
- Use it every day, usually with good results
     By A3BR71UJ21V9A4 on 2007-09-10
I've been using one of these every day for about a year now for hard-boiled eggs. 8 minutes cook time, plus a minute sit time, very consistent. It's easy to use and clean. I have no problem removing it using my bare hands. I then take off the top, put the eggs under running cold water, and lift the egg tray with the eggs by hand. I then put the eggs back in the bottom, with cold water for a short time to cool.
Everyone says they are easy to peel when done. I find this to be true, also, although I wasn't experienced enough with boiling eggs before getting this to compare.
Some eggs crack, and sometimes leak out, which isn't that big a deal. I think it depends on the eggs. Once I got a dozen eggs that seemed to have problems; one day, with those same eggs, they simply blew up, knocked the top off, and splattered themselves all over the microwave. A couple of other times it did something similar, but not so messy. But normally, it works well and doesn't require any puncturing of the eggs.
It basically heats the water from the bottom by shielding the top with thin aluminum, and the eggs are suspended above the water in a light aluminum tray with holes. So the eggs are steamed, not directly cooked by the microwaves.
- Easiest boiled egg youll never boil!
     By A16RGMORD80K9V on 2007-07-31
I really like this egg cooker!
Its so simple! Put in water, put in eggs ( I find fat end down works best ) put on the top & set it for your desired timing.
Two things:
1. I had to break a few eggs to get it right but I finally found the right time for my microwave & my taste.
2. I think a microwave with a turntable probably works best as it does with mostly all microwave foods.
AND, & this is a BIG AND, peeling these eggs is far easier than boiled in a pot eggs.
I suggest anyone who has a problem with this egg cooker to keep at it until you get it right. ( which should take about 3 to 4 times )
This is the fastest, easiest & most consistent egg cooker Ive seen.
By the way, I got mine at the Wal of Mart for around $5...
- Takes some tweaking
     By A3O2IBJGZCUYPS on 2007-12-23
The unit comes with directions for 600W, 800W, and 1000W microwaves. So I adjusted the time for my 1300W monster. Two eggs for 6 1/2 minutes were just shy of hard boiled. One egg for 6 minutes 40 seconds blew up like napalm all over the microwave. I think the time has to be adjusted for the number of eggs you're using. I'll just keep experimenting.
- Microwave Egg Cooker
     By A1GRQPYSU82RK0 on 2007-01-22
The product works better than expected. There is one sort of sour note, We purchased another one a Wal-Mart for $6.25 plus tax and gave it as a gift
- Love egg salad, hate boiling eggs
     By A24RK7ZP1RHPSH on 2007-08-03
When I boil 'em in a pot I always forget about it and overcook or burn 'em. This is great. Set it and walk away. Though I did boil my hand a bit the first time, a little careless with the hot water in the bottom. One of those rare kitchen gadgets that actually works. Even fits in my small microwave.
Mine did not have a manual in the box, though. I called NordicWare, got right through, the woman couldn't have been nicer. Gave me tips on using it, said she had one. I think she was telling the truth.
- not consistent
     By A2EVUQH0BMZR2E on 2007-06-22
Once I cooked the eggs at the exact time according to the manual, one egg burst and the entire lid popped off, each of the remaining eggs were all cooked differently, and not to the consistency I wanted. Poor quality egg cooker!
- works well, but difficult to open
     By A1MEV7S3HBT14Y on 2008-05-25
Nordic Ware products are generally well designed, but this one has a big flaw. It does soft- or hard-boil eggs as promised--though you will have to adjust the timing according to the strength of your oven--but it is very difficlt to open once the eggs are cooked. The surface is smooth and slippery, with no grips or indentations, and too big around the circumferance to hold firmly while twisting and lifting the top. The device must be kept level while opening or you will spill boiling water on your hands while trying to retrieve the eggs. I like the speed and convenience of using the microwave to boil eggs, but opening this device is a pain.
- A wonderful timesaver!
     By A2YQGU9A46P1AB on 2007-10-02
Boiled eggs as a side munch item while on Adkins is an ideal for me but there is the problem with the wait to boil or worse, forgetting they are on the stove while going about daily chores. The NordicWare Egg Boiler makes quick work of the eggs when in a hurry or a failsafe if I become sidetracked as the eggs stop cooking when the timer ends. It's a snap to use: Add water to the fill line, place the eggs in the aluminum tray, pop on the lid and set the timer in the microwave. I should have discovered this nifty item months ago!
- Good concept
     By A3O0ZJ2RNSHE2F on 2008-01-12
The concept of this is good. However, I have limited hand strength and this was very hard to open and close. I couldn't use it because of this. For most, it will probably be fine.
- Quick and easy

NordicWare Egg Boiler
Unlike other microwave egg products, the NordicWare Egg Boiler works eggsactly as advertised. Quick and easy, perfect results every time!
- Most Unique
     By AXLXMHNMUJS2E on 2008-04-19
I've owned mine for the better of ten years, and it does eggs correctly every time. Eight minutes, rinse with cold water, peel, and enjoy. Heed the warning about handling while hot, for this thing comes out of the 'wave VERY HOT. Have the cold water running in advance.
- Absolutely awesome!
     By A1056AHPW9368U on 2008-05-03
Love it! Love it! Love it!
Best innovation! The glowing reviews and (their) methods to 'cook' the perfect hard-boiled egg inspired me to purchase. I'm having eggs almost every day since it's so easy! I just leave the components in the drying rack for next 'cooking' time.
Highly recommend this no-fuss, energy-saving (electrical & self) semi-wierd device.
- It works! It's brilliant!
     By A2Q2688RQGUGG on 2008-06-27
8.5 minutes in a 1000 watt oven does the trick. No mess, no huge quantity of boiling water. Read the instructions-- it's easy!
- the perfect appliance
     By A3QA7DKFRCCQKW on 2008-07-21
Have had device for several years and cook one or two boiled eggs in it every morning. I set the microwave for 9 and a half minutes, put on the coffee pot and go take a shower. When i come back downstairs the eggs are usually perfectly cooked and the coffee is ready!
On several occasions the eggs have cracked and some of the white has blossomed out into an interesting formation on the side of the egg, but this has happened only seldom and it seems to be random. I have never had an explosion. I am not sure what the user who has explosions is doing wrong, but with the thousands of eggs I have cooked in this appliance, I think I would have had an explosion if there was going to be one.
It could be improved with a handle. It is very hot when done and one must be very careful not to spill the hot water.
- This thing is wonderful!
     By A2PK64OVZA1U8Z on 2008-08-01
I love boiled eggs and I love egg salad but I've never been able to boil an egg consistently well. It seems like I always undercooked or overcooked. Even when I got it just right, peeling the shell ripped chunks out of the egg white. That problem is now solved. I have a 1300W Panasonic microwave and cooking 4 eggs on high for 9 minutes yielded PERFECT results. I could not be happier. However, there is one flaw in this device that prevents me from giving it 5 stars and that is opening it after it's done cooking. This baby is seriously hot coming out of the microwave so you MUST use oven mitts or something similar to handle it. Trying to open this smooth egg with oven mitts is like trying to trim your nose hair with a weedeater, it can be done but it's not easy and will likely be painful. I'll have to invest in some fairly thick rubber gloves to be able to grip this thing well enough to get it open while it's hot but other than that I really love this little bugger!
- Works very well
     By A3OETP1TI73CAB on 2007-12-23
Once you get the times down for your microwave it works very well. My only complaint is the shape and smooth surface makes it difficult to open when it's hot and full of boiling water. I would rather have a more practical shape and texture to make it easier to open when using a pot holder. Alternatively if you can get a knife under the cover you can pry it open.
- Easy, inexpensive, and you can decorate your home with it!
     By AA5H0D9OTU96Y on 2008-01-12
Makes hardboiled eggs easily, doesn't get dirty (but easy to clean if it does). What more can you say!
- No more guessing
     By A2VFJBQ7K4XKEZ on 2008-02-18
If you are single and use a mirowave frequently this is a great product. One does not need to watch for boiling water, etc. Set it up and forget it. Worked right the first time for me.
- egg boiler
     By A1L1ZAK1FCQQMF on 2008-04-09
i was very skeptical of this thing when l purchased it . however it workes wonderful i would recomend it as a 5 star. as some else stated u do have to follow the directions very close. we have an 1100 watt microwave oven and it takes us 10 minuets for a good very hard egg.
- Super easy boiled eggs
     By A1WKPIXPDM7T5L on 2008-05-27
I absolutely love this little device. It makes boiled eggs with no hassle, no fuss. And it couldn't be easier- just pop 1-4 onto the tray on the inside, cover and zap. Your microwave will have its wattage information on it, depending on that you look at the provided sheet to see how long you need to cook for. For my microwave, it is 8 minutes.
And that's it. One thing I read here is that some people had problems opening and closing it. Mine was the opposite, the top seemed slightly looser than it should be, doesn't click on. Doesn't bother me, either way you need to take this out with two hands, one on bottom one on top. Doesn't affect anything, no leakage. Highly recommend!
- OLDER FOLKS LIKE THIS!
     By A2RI13Z75I2TV on 2008-06-08
I work for a 90 year old who recently bought one of these. She loves it! Mostly for ease in cleanup, and the uniformity of the cooking process. Reading the reviews, though, I do hope they make the "Egg" easier to open!
- Perfect every time! Once I learned to use it, that is.
     By AK462CDPSTMVY on 2008-07-23
I hadn't had much success with the enclosed instructions that come with this egg boiler and was just about to give it away when I saw a consumer report on them.
They said:
For hard boiled eggs to microwave on high for 12 minutes,
Let rest for 2 minutes and then
Run cold water over the eggs to stop the cooking.
It worked perfectly!
Since then, I have taken the time to experiment a bit more and have found that 10 minutes on high (1300 Watt) and about five minutes to rest works too. I was so happy with it once I figured it out that I got one for my daughter, too.
The best part is that not only are they cooked perfectly, they are also not cracked when they finish cooking. I love it!
