I think this is as good as the expensive over $60 HDMI cables. I wouldn't spend money on the expensive ones. First of all, I'm not a cable junkie nor an expert. However, according to my research, there's no difference in performance b/w the expensive version nor the $12, $15, $20 version when it comes to HDMI since it's all digital.. hole buch of zeros and ones. The durability of the cables... I don't know. But unless you're someone who constantly plugs and unplugs the cables for some reason, it wouldn't matter. Normally, you'd connect the cable and keep it that way for a long period of time, so the durability is not really relevant. Bottomline: This is as good as the expensive ones. I first tried out the expensive Monster brand which was $85. Then I returned it after purchasing this, for the quality was the same. Don't buy the expensive ones.
This is the HDMI cable that you ever need By A1A84KUHBVCK9K on 2006-03-07
Don't spend your money on the brand name cables. They all the same as far as delivering digital contents. Connect between my Sony DVD and Toshiba TV. Whoala, awesome picture.
A great cable at a great price By A2492XE7PBMELT on 2006-12-02
I had an overpriced HDMI cable to compare this with because earlier when I bought my HDTV and wanted a cable "right then" I was able to buy a $60 cable half-off at BestBuy (it was open box). I completely agree that this cable does the trick at a fraction of the price. Movies played on our new upconverting DVD player look luscious. I also like the way the cable is constructed--sturdy, with a very flexible covering. The cable came with covers over its tips, as well, to protect it en route. Nice touch.
I need another cable because I just realized (duh!) that if I'm routing the cable box IN to our new home theater receiver I need another cable to route the receiver OUT to the TV, plus I want some other types of cables for the audio, and I'll purchase all of these from one of the Amazon online sellers. It's worth the short wait.
Cheap cable same Picture Quality, Less durability in this case. By A22T896H16J4TJ on 2007-01-17
You're not going to get a better picture spending more for an HDMI cable. However, if you buy a cheap cable, you're more likely to get one that'll break easily. That is exactly what happened to one of these cables I bought. The connector on one end of the cable broke the first day I got it as I plugged it in a jack a couple times while setting up my home theater system. (Fortunately I should be able to get a full refund from Amazon).
I would recommend the Impact Acoustics cable over this one. It may be a couple bucks more, but it feels much more sturdy.
any reason to spend more on expensive cable?? By A2FRJDELMU4VNR on 2006-08-11
Nice cable, I don't see any reason to spend more money on brands cables. I tested this and then changed to a Brand named ... NO DIFFERENCES.
- LOL - Don't Overpay for HDMI!!!!
     By A1YLFD3KY8KN8M on 2007-01-01
Hey folks - I'm an electronics technician and network engineer!
LOL... LOL... LOL... Don't OVERPAY FOR SOME PLASTIC AND METAL!!!
HDMI cables simply transfer digital information from your DVD player to your TV/Receiver. It's essentially 1's and 0's directly processed by your TV/Receiver. It's not a an audio or high frequency signal that's succeptable to interference, crosstalk, or anything else.
Your main concern is signal degradation due to distance. If the distance of your run surpasses the specifications for HDMI transmission, then you will simply need a device that amplifies/repeats the signal so that it reaches its destination (your recever) unchanged/degraded.
3 ft and 6 ft cables are sufficient for most applications. If you want gold plating, then these cables are gold plated.
Why gold plating? Gold plating prevents corrosion. Actually its been over-played by marketing. If your equipment is not in a damp place, or outdoors, then even if you don't have gold plating, your electronics may die before the cables corrode.
Buy these cables and laugh just like I did. I initially bought a $39.95 Phillips cable from Wal-Mart cause that was the cheapest one I could find, but I still felt that I'd been taken! Then, I did some research and found this cable. I bought 3 - then took the overpriced Phillips HDMI cable back to Wal-Mart!!!
Why 3 cables? - I'm waiting on a PS-3 and an AFFORDABLE, true HDMI switching receiver. Currently I'm using one cable directly from my Hi-Def Sony DVD Changer to my Samsung 50" DLP, and running optical audio from the DVD Changer to my Onkyo 7.1 system - Suhweet... (for now).
P.S.
...For those of you that think that you must have Monster cables, go ahead. They're not bad - Just Overpriced!!! I used to work at Circuit City back in the day of commissioned sales people, so I know the profit margin on this stuff. I had to flex on a BestBuy associate a few years back because he kept insisting that I buy a power conditioner from "Monster Cable" for my big screen for $100.00, even after I'd already bought a (throw your money away) service plan!!!
Hey - Get this cable, it's of high quality and it's Safe!!!
- Why pay more?
     By A2FT93TB9CX2IS on 2006-09-03
These HDMI cables work just fine for me. Now I've not used any of the $100+ cables that are on offer (and all you can get in Circuit City/Best Buy etc.), but I would expect them to be of a higher quality in terms of how they're made and the picture and sound they deliver. BUT for less than $10 who can complain? They look and feel fine and deliver a better picture than the analogue cables I was using. After spending $750 on a new HDTV, I'm not prepared to spend another $130 on a cable! Not to mention I needed two of them (one for my HD upconverting DVD player). Delivery was prompt too, just taking a few days. I couldn't recomend these enough, given the alternatives at at least 10 times the price.
- A cable is a cable is a cable
     By A289ARF9YKYKD4 on 2006-11-27
When I got my HDMI capable HD TV and wanted to hook up my Upconverting DVD player through the HDMI output, I was confronted with outrageous Big Box store prices for HDMI cables. I wasn't about to pay almost as much for the cable as I had for the DVD player. Fortunately I found this cable through Amazon.com at a very good price (a WHOLE LOT less than the Big Box stores) even with shipping. Don't be fooled by all the hype about needing high end cabling for your HD TV and DVD players. This cable works very well and as intended. By the way, using the HDMI output of your source to feed an HDTV's input is the only way to go, even when you are upconverting standard DVD discs. The image is startlingly good!
- Fantastic Quality Cable at Rock Bottom Price
     By A199E35MSW16HW on 2007-02-08
Most retail stores are essentially using HDMI cables to commit fraud these days, often telling consumers they must pay upwards of $150 for an HDMI cable to use their new tv or dvd player. The monster, belkin, etc, cables that these stores sell are marked up well over 500% in many cases, and the cables themselves are of sub-par quality and simply covered in a lot of pretty plastic.
These low-price HDMI cables available through amazon, of which I have purchased several, are incredible quality, gold plated connectors, and a simple black cable without alot of frilly colors added for no reason. The connector housings are well made and durable, and the cable itself has a nice flexibility to it.
- Dont pay for monster
     By A2PRRXYC4NWPF3 on 2006-11-22
I just hooked this up and the picture is every bit as good as it was with my 129.00 monster cable..Why pay the money when you can spend it on something else like another cable if you only have 1 hdmi hookup on your set..Got 2 of these cables and a splitter for under 50.00..SHOP around, the deals are out there...
- They break easily
     By A3RT6NJ89RF190 on 2007-05-03
Price was tempting, but I pushed my DVD player in a bit too hard and the end broke right off this cable...pay a few bucks more and get something better.
- Don't pay high prices for this thing!!
     By AY1AH6JFEURNZ on 2007-04-17
I read all the other reviews and followed their advice, now I'm passing along that advice: don't spend big money on monster brand, etc cables when this can do the job. You won't notice the difference at all. I got this for $9.99 from amazon. I got two, one I have in use with my Tivo/TV and the other for when I get my HD DVD player or Blu-Ray DVD player.
- Looks and performs just as good as my much more expensive monster cable
     By A3635S3IY6WZLT on 2007-05-19
Excellent product, Cables Unlimited has had every type of cable I have ever needed and is always the cheapest. Cannot complain about anything, product, service, shipping or cost. I cannot believe I wasted money on a Monster HDMI cable;these cables cost 90% less and do the same job. Highly recommended.
- Great cables at a fraction of the "brand name"!
     By A1P7MAO0LW6HCZ on 2007-07-06
When I purchased my new HDTV at circuit city (sorry Amazon, I needed it same day and had to pass on your better price...), the salesman there tried to sell me a "Monster" cable for nearly $100. I said no and went to Radio Shack, where I thought surely, I can get a cable for a lot less. Not true. Since I didn't need the HDMI cable right away, my next stop was Amazon. And as usual, I found a cost effective alternative. $9.00 vs $100. Sold!
Swapping out the component cable with the HDMI resulted in a noticable improvement in the picture. As cristal clear as the picture is now, I can't see how another $90 could improve it.
Delivery time was longer than expected, but worth the wait.
- Excellent Cable
     By A2ZDIJH3UMSVBO on 2007-08-09
Wake up people: don't even think of spending big $ on HDMI cables. Companies like Monster Cable have been scamming consumers since HDMI first came out. I was even stupid enough to pay $160 for a 20ft HDMI cable back when there weren't any other options. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE between this cable and a Monster cable, NO DIFFERENCE! But this one and you will be stoked with the performance.
- A good deal on a good cable
     By A2YRL0QFMPDKW1 on 2007-08-22
I recently bought a 42" Sharp Aquos LCD, so to maximize its performance, I upgraded my cable box to the HD box ($6/mo.), and bought two of these cables (one for the cable box, and one for my future HD DVD player).
I read a lot of the reviews of these and more expensive HDMI cables, and I opted to go the cheap route. I had a $25 gift certificate from my birthday, and with free super saver shipping, both cables cost me about $3 out of pocket.
I'm very happy with the image quality I get from these cables. There doesn't seem to be much difference (if any) than the signal I get from the component cables that came from with the cable box. In fact, when I change channels, there is a slight "delay" where the image loses brightness for a second, then fades up. I guess that's just the nature of a digital signal, though. With the component cables, I got a "freeze" for a second when I changed channels, so, six of one... But I like that I can get audio & video to the set through one cable.
Ulitimately, these cables work fine. I agree with other reviewers who say to avoid the designer cables unless you have money to spare. My guess is that the super-expensive cables probably would make somewhat of a noticeable difference, but not enough to justify spending $100 more.
I would also add that these cables should work just fine for anyone who plans on hooking their equipment up and leaving it alone. They do have a stiffness to them, and if you are planning on connecting and disconnecting them to different devices regularly, you might want to go with a more flexible and longer warrantied cable (though, these do have a 1 year limited warranty). Plus, a little more flexibility would be helpful in bundling my TV cables, though it's certainly not a reason to avoid these cables, especially considering the price.
All in all, a very good cable for a very good price. 4 stars would have been 5 if the cable was a bit more flexible.
Cables Unlimited makes a good product. This is the second cable purchase I've made from them. I also bought one of their Firewire 800 cables for an external HD, and it has worked flawlessly.
- Monster who ?
     By ARIPTEZ3T6E4Y on 2006-12-20
Anyone who is considering the expensive cables, dont.
I was also in your shoes. Sure, the expensive cables come in the
nice fancy packaging, but what happens to that packaging once its opened ?
You throw it away. These cables will give you the crystal clear picture
you are looking for. I have a Directv hddvr hooked to my hdtv. The picture is wonderfully
clear and the sound is superb.Dont think that you will be getting an inferior cable , just because
it doesnt say, Monster. You cant tell the difference. I didnt !
- Worth the wait
     By A1AOZB35D5M4MI on 2007-01-02
What is there really to say about this cable? It didn't come in an impossible to open blister pack (good). It took about a week to get here. No biggie. I paid 1/3 of what it would have cost me at a certain big box electronics store. If you can manage to wait the week, just go with this cable. I plugged it in and it worked fine between my Panasonic plasma and Playstation 3.
6 foot cable with gold leads. Color, black.
- Awful quality
     By A2VAW6FA4XNSOC on 2007-03-20
After connecting the a digital cable receiver to my HDTV, the signal was much worse than using component cables.
AVOID!!!
- The right cable for the right price.
     By A2PXOP8AOGXQCO on 2007-04-25
Don't spend severty-five dollars at a box store when you can get the same thing overnighted from Amazon for a fraction of the price. HDMI is a digital signal, so paying for custom coating on the connectors just isn't worth it.
If you're reading this, you should stop waiting and just buy this cable if it's something you need. You're NOT going to find a better deal at a brick-and-mortar store. Trust me, I looked.
- awesome
     By A3OOFPTLZ1M3SP on 2007-04-27
ATTENTION TO ANYONE LOOKING FOR HDMI CABLES!
There is absolutely NO need to spend money on the ridiculously priced HDMI cables that are found in retail stores. Stay away from the ($150 +) Monster cables or anything priced over $30 for that matter. Digital cables either work or they don't. There is no in-between. Certain cable manufactures and stores (best buy) would love for you to think otherwise, but don't let yourself be suckered into that garbage. Save yourself a lot of money and go with these cables instead. They work perfectly. Spend a few dollars and do a comparison test if you want to. You will see no difference in quality between these and much more expensive cables.
- THE BEST 1.2 HDMI CABLE FOR INTERCONNECT
     By A31T035CF3HE78 on 2007-06-24
Don't pay a $170 dollar 6 feet HMDI monster cable when you can get this huge bargain for less than 5 dollars (with shipping). The item I received works with 1.2 HDMI with my Syntax Olevia LT42HVi 42" HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV. I'm also using the DVD DV-696 AV-s by Pioneer and works marvelously with 1080i upscaling.
According to previous sellers who did comparisons on both the bargain and retail products, the monster and bargain HDMI connects don't make much of a difference if not totally similar in terms of quality. Comparisons were read on NewEgg dot com and Amazon dot com.
The perfect purchase for the price sensitive buyer and video/audio phile's of the world.
- save $$, buy this!
     By A2NZMP2V3S94QN on 2007-06-27
MUCH cheaper than HDMI cables in stores and works great! Don't waste your money on the expensive cables...for this price, what have you got to lose? Might as well try the cheaper cable first.
- Perfect and very good price
     By AYMD77ITD15PT on 2007-07-22
Saw HDMI cables in the local stores for a lot lot more than this product. This cable does the job and does it well. Why waste money on a more expensive HDMI cable.
- Don't waste your money!!!!
     By A1PCSTOWCGN9FO on 2007-09-17
Having just purchased a LCD HD TV, and spending a ton of money on the TV itself, I was not thrilled in spending more money on a bunch of cables. When I found these, I couldn't believe the price, after seeing so many HDMI cables at exorbinate prices. So I tried them, and after hoping they would work as I had hoped and read in reviews they would, NOTHING, no signal, weak signal, blank screen.
So I called up Dell and ordered some very expensive Belkin HDMI cables and will see if they work.. (They better for that price or they go back)
I am highly disappointed but like my father always told me (didn't take his advice this time)YOU ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, and he is right.
Please, please don't waste your hard earned money for junk, because that is what this cable is, JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks like they were home made.
Now I am off to buying some optical cables. Any suggestions?
- You don't need to purchase the expansive ones!
     By A5L6CANI1E6VD on 2006-11-06
I bought these for less than 20$ and they work as great as the expansive once.
Maybe an specialist will see a difference but for me it is just the same.
- Great Quality
     By A2U771QT9XAI5J on 2006-11-10
Just by picking up this cable you can tell it is made well. How they can sell this cable for the price is beyond me. I ordered this cable plugged it in to my HDTV and awesome picture. Do not waste your money on the more expensive cables!!
I will be buying more of these!
- Don't spend a fortune on a cable.
     By A2EP045UGYLZ6G on 2007-01-16
Works perfectly. I don't see how the picture on our Sony 1080p rear-projection television could be any clearer. Just goes to show you -- don't spend a fortune on cables. Cheaper versions work just fine.
- Cable review
     By A3RIIDJN83KZ4W on 2007-01-29
This is a very good cable. My tv picture went from ok to WOW. I would recommend this to anyone that asked me about it.
- it gets the bits there
     By A1VT9LTTBYKMWL on 2007-03-10
This cable is now connecting my Scientific Atlanta cable box to my Philips 42" plasma, and works without even the most minor of glitches.
Simply put, it gets the bits from point A to point B, which, with a digital signal is all that matters. Highly recommended.
