  • ######## EMERGENCY MESSAGE TO ALL USERS/POTENTIAL BUYERS - READ! ########

    By A1NJV1EI28TLQY on 2006-01-30
Like all of the other people here, I bought this bar and it has performed magnificently. $15 is ridiculously cheap for the high build quality of this item, but **BEWARE**.

******* DO NOT USE THIS ITEM WITHOUT THE BRACKETS ******, no matter how strong you think it is.

I am approximately 165lbs teenager and was using the bar sporadically throughout the day just for fun. Again, I hung this WITHOUT the brackets, which I learned to regret.
One time when I was pulling myself up, the bar fell broke off and fell, leading me to land party on my back and neck.

I immediately got back up like nothing happened, but the next day my back and neck are experiencing shrieking pain.

The use of brackets is not only recommended, but required. It takes only a few minutes!!

  • Great chinning bar

    By A2ZTHPNEVR20KC on 2006-01-06
After reading the bad reviews for the everlast chinning bar, I settled on this one. I didn't see how this would work with the pics amazon had, but it's very sturdy and works great. I've posted some pics of the bar mounted. See "customer images".

  • Good bar, easy to install

    By A2AWAUSQ2ZIZU on 2006-04-07
I agree with all the positive reviews of this product, and agree with the people that say you really should use the mounting hardware and that it only takes a few minutes to put up. However, the screws that came with the mounting bracket are very soft, and the head of the first one I tried to drive in just turned to iron filings, so I grabbed 6 decent wood screws and put them in. As near as I can tell, the cheap hardware is the only real corner they cut.

  • Quality product but not a substitute for a self-standing pullup bar

    By AIBRTGBN07D6A on 2008-01-03
I bought this bar because of the excellent reviews and because I wanted to be able to do pull ups in my home. The bar is very sturdy and the grips are comfortable. It was easy to install, you just screw some brackets into your door frame. The problem is that you can't really do an effective push up unless you are 5' tall. I mounted it about 4" from the top of the door. At 6' tall, I have to bend my knees to do a pull up, then have to worry about hitting my head on the top of the door jamb. It was uncomfortable and I stopped using after a couple days, because I was exerting too much effort into trying to stay out of the way of the door jamb or keep my feet off the floor.

I don't think this is a problem with this bar, but with almost all pull up bars mounted this way. I would highly recommend that people over 5' tall look for a door-mounted bar that is pushed out and up from the door frame rather than one that mounts on the inside. Either that, or a full-standing pull up bar.

  • Great but caused wall accident

    By A2YPITDKP0F4KH on 2006-07-12
If you're buying this item I strongly suggest you put it IN THE DOORFRAME... i placed on the walls right in front of my door --my brilliant idea to be able to do it with the door closed, and also higher to allow taller people to pass without bending their heads. However, after about three days the pressure became too much and produced a good sized hole in my wall...
Thats when I realized that the doorframe would be stronger...
I repeat...DONT BE STUPID LIKE ME! USE IT IN THE DOORFRAME!
    otherwise, i like it.

  • Beware
    By A1YLAH9DQREU05 on 2007-05-03
I only had this for about 3 weeks and only used it 2-3 times a week. I was in the middle of doing pull-ups when I hear a loud pop and suddenly the bar spun around very quickly nearly throwing me to the floor. I was lucky enough to have gotten my feet down in time to catch myself otherwise I would have fallen back on the weights racked behind me. The bar broke free of the circle part that rests in the bracket on the thicker part where the pads are. Very disapointing to have a bar break that was practicly brand new. I e-mailed Go-Fit to voice my concern and never heard from them about the incident. It might have been a freak accident, but it was one that's made me nervous about trying Go-Fit out again.

  • Extremely strong chin-up bar.
    By A1GZB4T3JO4QU7 on 2006-01-20
After buying this chin up bar and reading its great reviews I decided to test its strength. I weigh about 165lbs. and the bar held me sturdily without the hardware. It also worked just as well without the hardware for my friend who is about 250lbs. Even when we both hung from it the bar held strong. I wouldn't recomend tandom pull-ups, however, because it put too much stress on the door frame. This is a much nicer product than the everlast bar. Buy with confidence.

  • Excelent Durability
    By A3SXDD5KRTHR87 on 2005-09-20
The product is very simple and straight forward. It does'nt have a bunch of little peices that you can lose or misplace. The one draw back to this product is that the mounting hardware is a little bit to small for drilling into a solid door frame(you will definatly need a power drill). One of the biggest benefits about this product is that it can be used WITHOUT THE HARDWARE! You can simply place it in the door jam and keep expanding it until it is locked ito place by pressure, awsome!

  • GoFit chinup bar- How to use if out of shape/starting...!
    By AGTO21BHY08LF on 2007-07-29
I haven't done a chin-up since way back (60 pounds ago- My record was then 27).
This was "now" MUCH to difficult, for me...!?

Then I talked to a fitness instructor, about my problem...?-

He suggested that I turn regular chin-ups into a "much easier/better" isometric exercise!-
Grab the bar (palms facing, for starters), and hop up (get a stool...), until chin is about even with the bar (you can support a little weight with legs on stool, if too difficult...).
Then just hold that postion for a few seconds... (increase time..., as is comfortable...), then let yourself slowly down.
Do this every "other" day (don't do/Arthritis...!- if joints or muscles, are sore...!).

I'm now up to four sets of 30 seconds bi-daily, and rotate palms facing or palms away (pull-up)-
My arms & back... have toned up, and I do so "!MUCH!" better at tennis/golf!

I can now do a regular chin-up, but the "extra" strain REALLY makes my joints (shoulder, elbow) ache!
I'll just stick with the isometrics...!

    Notes:
    1. I hung it in the bathroom doorway, to help remind me...!
    2. Yes- the bar rotates a little, if not gripped firmly (this is REALLY good, for toning your wrists...!)!
    3. I Love the cushioned foam grips, that don't cut off circulation to hands- like my old cushionless bar did!

  • try another bar
    By A2CMDNV9KR1OCF on 2007-06-03
I read all the reviews and noted that spinning or rotating of the bar is a common problem. Years ago (many years) I had a bar in my bedroom door way, it didnt spin and it would have bugged me if it did. Today I stopped at Sports Authority and their standard chin up bar, nice chrome bar real smooth
but amazingly its designed to solve the spinning bar problem. The ends are hexagonal shaped and they fit into the brackets in a way that they cant spin at all. The brackets themselves are not the most gorgeous looking things but use wise its worth checking into if a spinning bar is an issue with you.
Note also, they have a deluxe bar that does not have this feature and doubtless does spin, so look for the standard model, it was only $14.99
This bar is available at amazon as the TKO Doorway Pull up Bar for $17.99
    Happy Chinning :-)

  • Solid
    By A2B4R3V4FXLHB7 on 2006-03-24
I put up this chin up bar with the brackets. Installation was extremely easy. The cushioned handles are a nice touch. The only issue I have with it is that it twirls a bit in the bracket. That probably can be fixed with setting the adjustment a bit tighter, but it seems to be as tight as I can get it adjusted by hand. That being said, the bar works well and I would recommend it.

  • Use Me
    By A16KADFBQHVG3Y on 2007-01-12
I mounted this little devil at the bottom of my basement stairway. I demand of myself three pullups every time I pass under it. I feel very guilty when I ignore it.

  • DON'T ORDER THIS PRODUCT
    By AQTC9LJBBZWWJ on 2008-04-05
The wrong item is pictured. The chin up bars with the rubber stoppers on each end are no longer in production. However, Amazon and Go-Fit have failed to update their pictures in a timely manner and will send you a chin up bar with hexagonal ends that can only be mounted using the installation hardware. I ordered what I thought was pictured and received the wrong item and was then forced to shell out $15.85 to send the thing back. Don't order this item and don't expect courtesy or promptness from the customer service department either.

  • Product Longer Than Advertised
    By ALQVQS971BQGO on 2008-06-28
The product description advertises that this bar can accommodate door frames measuring 24" to 32" wide, however the product itself actually measures just shy of 25" when completely compacted. If you have a standard 24" wide bathroom door, this product will be of no use to you.

  • Super Heavy-Duty
    By A1W80ZMG4LOE6V on 2006-02-04
Well I read all the reviews about how this guy is this tall and weighs this much and it still holds, but I am 6'4 and weigh 200lbs. and even though I know I should have used the support brackets I didn't. It's still holding, no problems, and if I ever lose my car jack I think this could substitute.

  • GoFit Chin-Up Bar
    By AZ0V7UN48CGJL on 2006-08-25
The quality of this chin-up bar exceeds that of those in any of the stores in my area and the price is lower. It was easy to install. I use it on a regular basis. It is a great product.

  • Pretty good
    By A1VY1TCIYDIEE4 on 2006-12-21
Bar finish (chrome) and grips are good. Bracket finish not so good, detracts slightly from appearance. Interface between rubber (or whatever) ends of bar and screw heads inside brackets is a little funky. But overall it's great, perfect for a few in and out of the w.c.

  • Good concept, but not ideal in practice.
    By AYKG70DVFYST8 on 2007-11-16
These fit between the door jambs pull up bars are a good concept for an economical way to get pull ups in your home exercise routine. However I find the conditions just too cramped to enjoy doing pull ups. It is much more fun and think easier to do pull ups if you are hanging with your feet off the ground and not worried your going to bang your head on a door jam. Unless you are very short (or your doors are very high) these bars are too low and you have to bend your knees to do the pull ups. Personally I don't like that as much and I find myself wishing I had bought a self standing pull up station.

  • Useless
    By A18RWAXS8GMLYY on 2008-05-09
In college I had a chin-up bar that you twisted to tighten into a doorframe and I thought that's what this was as well. Turns out you need a drill (which I don't have) and you have to drill into your doorframe, which I can't do since I live in an apartment. What an absolute waste of money. If you live in a home and you own a drill, buy it, for the rest of us it's completely useless.

  • Perfect, No harware needed
    By A29GT94TNSYYT1 on 2005-10-05
Im only 100 pounds so I didnt need to install it with hardware, Just by pressure! Great Product it stays put, and very good idea to exercise regularily, just do one pull up every time you come in the room and that should be a way to stay fitter.

  • Great Product, Great Price
    By A38US0DF8C4RRO on 2006-01-08
This is the best pull up bar out there. It is very strong and feels solid. I put it between my doorframe and although it would probably hold me without the retention brackets (I'm only about 160lbs), I put the brackets in. It does it's job wonderfully and I am already seeing results in my strength! Great product don't hesistate to buy this.

  • Good bar
    By A37DVH6W6JZVH1 on 2006-06-30
The bar is very nice, and very secure. It was exactly what I wanted, and pretty cheap too. The shipping was fast, and the package was in good condition, so an excellent seller as well.

  • Great except for one thing
    By A2Q9GH8MOOHUPP on 2006-12-26
I would like to say that this is a great chinup bar and am very glad i made this purchase. My only problem with the bar was the screws that came with it are very low quality..... i would recommend that anyone buying go to a local hardware store and get some better screws. Other than that great product.

  • Does its job
    By A37PZR7AIHQ4N0 on 2007-05-01
Very simple, but it does its job well. Not very hard to install and easy to use. I do wish it had come with longer screws, but the ones it came with do seem to work. Longer ones would make me feel safer, though.

  • Not what I Ordered
    By A17EHIM7N7JTX6 on 2008-05-20
The model pictured here looks nice, but the model I received has very annoying square shaped mounts that will not fit most door-frames. It's also very hard to get the bar in and out of the mounts. Does not work anywhere near as easily as the model picured here with the round mounts. Hope I'm the only one that had the "switched-out" product.

  • ok item- not very good for wide grip pull-ups
    By AGKNNGJ03H88G on 2006-12-01
the chin bar is ok. there is some problem with the screws and I had to purchase new ones at a hardware store. The Bar will be good for chin ups but will not be useful for wide grip pull-ups. If you have 34 inch door, then buy the bar that extends up to 36 inch.

  • Good quality bar, soft screws
    By A2QX5K96EZIDOZ on 2007-03-10
I'm satisfied with this chin up bar. The included screws are quite soft, so be sure to drill large enough holes and screw in screws slowly to prevent stripping of the heads.

  • Not same as the old model
    By ALQXQ37DWTDNJ on 2008-08-09
I bought one in 2006 and it was the one in the picture with the round mounting heads that nicely hides the screws, and the padding was thick and comfortable. The new one with the hexagon shape mount sucks, it now has thin padding that is wrapped on by velcrose. The mounting pieces on the new model isn't totally flat and doesn't flush against the door frame. The uncovered mount also doesn't hide the screws and very unsightly. I was impressed with the original product and was buying another to mount upstairs. The company has cheapened their product to save a few bucks but they have absolutely lost me as customer.

  • Excellent Product at a GREAT price!!!!
    By A2J8Y6W1LD04Z7 on 2006-03-21
This pullup bar is so wonderful! My family uses it constantly and we even have pull-up competitions! It is really sturdy (I do flips on in) and you can store it if you don't want it up all the time.

  • Great piece of equipment - just add muscle.
    By ATUR9UBAVQ0A1 on 2006-08-23
Very solid once mounting brackets are installed - very easy to put together. Comfortable to use, just not easy for the non-initiated.
