  • Not bad

    By A110LZFBUFYWN7 on 2005-08-18
These stories are pretty good and are from season 7, which was the last season directed by David Mitton. The stories are narrated by Michael Brandon, who is on the border between a good narrator and a bad one. He has a good voice but sometimes, he makes the engines sound dumb. The story stops are:

    PERCY GETS IT RIGHT 9/10:
Percy comes across a broken track while traveling on Toby's line so he goes back to tell Sir Topham Hatt. When he tells him about the problem, Sir Topham Hatt ingnores him and sends Thomas down Toby's line, which has the broken track on it.

    SOMETHING FISHY 8.5/10:
A new line at the harbor is opened and Arthur hopes that Sir Topham will pick him to run it but Sir Topham Hatt ends up choosing Thomas to run the line. Thomas isn't the least bit excited since he hates the smell of fish. Arthur still wants the job, will he ever get it?

WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH HENRY 9/10:
One day, Henry isn't feeling well and is leaking water everywhere. He doesn't want to tell Sir Topham Hatt because he that really useful engines don't complain. Soon, he send Thomas, Percy, and Henry to pull some freight cars and Thomas and Percy think that Henry is just lazy so they play a trick on Henry.

    THE OLD BRIDGE 7/10:
The old bridge is collapsing and Skarloey gets stuck on it one day. After he is pulled to safety and the bridge gets repaired, Skarloey refuses to cross the bridge again; but when it comes to saving his friend, Rheneas, will Skarloey be able to face his fear of crossing the bridge?

    TRUSTY RUSTY 8/10:
Rusty's job is to inspect the island for damaged spots and he comes across a weak bridge. He goes back to warn all the other engines but Duncan decides to cross it anyway.

    BILL, BEN & FERGUS 9/10:
Fergus comes help Bill and Ben at the quarry. He is very cautious and always warn Bill and Ben to be careful and to do it right. Bill and Ben soon get annoyed with Fergus and decide that the next time Fergus tells them to do something right, they will do it wrong.

THERE ONCE WAS AN ENGINE WHO RAN AWAY(music video) 7/10:
A song about Fergus and the time when he ran away.

It's going to be a good video/DVD; but i've seen most of the episodes on PBS.

  • Very nice release

This was a very good DVD. It covers a large variety of characters. Here are the episodes and grades:

1.Percy gets it right (B - Kids love Percy and Thomas they will like this)
2.Something fishy (A- Thomas, Arthur and Salty. Thomas does not want to pull fish so he tries to do it all in one trip and crash!)
3.What's the matter with Henry? (B - Henry is sick)
4.The old iron bridge (A - Skarloey almost falls on the bridge and won't go on it again. My kids found this to be very engaging)
5.Trusty Rusty (A- - Rusty saves Duncan from a bad bridge. Ironically this is very similar to the story right before it?)
    6. Bill, Ben, and Fergus (A+ - Our favorite. Bill and Ben are very funny. This also includes Mavis)

As always, the DVD has games and a song. It also has two computer games that you can load on your computer. Not a bad deal at all. Ours came with a shiny Percy which made the whole purchase a steal since the trains themselves generally run $9.99. Great buy.

  • The secrets behind this DVD! By The Z

    By on 2005-03-30
This epsiode definately sounds intersting! Starting off with "Percy Gets It Right" Percy must save Thomas from Toby's Branch line tracks. Then in "Bill, Ben, and Fergus" Fergus returns and has to save the quary from Bill and Bens mischevious rampage. Next in "The old Bridge" Skarloey must overcome his fear of the old bridge and save Rhenaes. In "What's The Matter With Henry?" Henry has to recover from a horrible cold and a nasty trick by Thomas and Percy. Then in "Something Fishy" Arthur returns and has to save the docks from a runaway train and save his new job from destruction. Finally, in "Trusty Rusty" Rusty must save save Duncan from the old bridge before its too late. Based on everything here, this DVD sounds like a very interesting episode.

Remember when "Races,Rescues, and Runaways" and "Spills and Chills" were popular back in the 2003? HIT Entertainment has tried constantly tried to come with up some idea for the episodes but they finally came up with some killer episodes for this DVD. After some research, I have found the following: First, the episodes will be using the Season 7 animation. Second, Michael Brandon will be narrating the episodes. Finally, the DVD will have the regular 6 episodes. The story sstops are:

Percy Gets it right-Working Title: Percy saves the day. Co-figure..

Bill,Ben and Fergus-About time Fergus got another role!

Something Fishy-This way comes... *Sniggers evilly*

The Old Bridge-Let me guess: Another narrow-gauge story I bet.

    Trusty Rusty-Rusty returns!

What's the matter with Henry?-I don't know? What? Is he sick?

  • Very good

This is a good Thomas release. Michael Brandon does a good job narrating the episodes (though his new Rusty voice leaves something to be desired!) and most of the episodes are enjoyable. The new music is alright, though personally I prefer the original version. All in all this is worth having.

  • Great Addition to Our Collection
    By A23FC8MKBH69OD on 2005-09-08
My two year old son loves this DVD as much as the rest of the collection. The metallic Percy that comes with it looks awesome. It is a great bonus and we look forward to the next DVD coming out in Sept. 2005.

  • Better than "Hooray for Thomas"...but only just
    By on 2006-01-12
This DVD suffers from the same problem as Anchor Bay's last Thomas release, "Hooray for Thomas," did...a good set of stories, let down by the narration and music.

Michael Brandon has improved slightly from his shoddy performance on the "Hooray for Thomas" DVD, but he still isn't much good as a narrator. To be fair to him, he has changed his Skarloey and Rheneas voices to ones that suit them better than the ones he previously gave them. But he has also changed his voice for Rusty, who now sounds like a squawking nuisance. Arthur sounds plain and dull, and Fergus's voice is far too high-pitched and childish...same goes for Bill and Ben. And Duncan has been given what sounds like a bad Italian accent (presumably Brandon was trying to make him sound Scottish but it came out wrong). Brandon's voice in general also irritates me, and he just doesn't say his lines like he means them. Whatever happened to the man who wowed me with his narration for "Steamies Vs Diesels" and "Thomas and the Jet Engine"?

The new music also falls short. Most of it is bland and unmemorable, and on numerous occasions it fails to suit the mood of the scene. I don't know why HIT felt the need to rescore the episodes anyway...the old music worked fine as it was, and it was so much better than the new music we're being given here.

The episodes themselves aren't too bad (I especially like "Something Fishy" and "What's the Matter With Henry"), and children could learn useful lessons from them. My personal favourite moment from this DVD is the music video at the end, "There Once Was An Engine Who Ran Away." It's a fast-paced little jazz song from the original music composers, telling the tale of how Fergus ran away (a tale which will be detailed further in an episode on the upcoming DVD "Thomas and the Really Brave Engines"). For me, that song makes these DVD worth owning.

If only it wasn't for Brandon's narration, this would probably be one of the highlights of my Thomas DVD collection.

  • Great Birthday present.
    By A2BDIWVM3AZ17U on 2007-04-05
I love the Thomas toys and my kids love the movies. This video isn't just about percy (he only saves the day in one of them, and isn't even in some of the others) if you were expecting that. It really should be named "Look who saved the day" because its all about different Engines doing just that.

The toy is nifty. I mean, if you bought a Percy toy new it would cost about as much as the toy and movie together, and this Percy is sparkly! My kids loved it.

I've never seen the music video! Kate669 can you bring more music videos like Troublesome Trucks & Salty. I'm going to watch a music video called "There Once Was An Engine Who Ran Away."
