Very good product; Easy to install. Does what it is supposed to... By A1UPVJ7T3GXQDU on 2005-12-30
I researched different webcam/videophone solutions in order to purchase a gift for my in-laws and my daughter to communicate long distance. I wanted the easiest solution for them since they are not computer literate. Cost wasn't the first factor but I didn't want to spend $500 on a crappy solution. I looked at a couple of videophones, they seemed to be easy but they were definatley more expensive, and the reviews they were getting were not good. So I decided to go with a webcam, they were cheaper and had better reviews.
Since we both had laptops I chose the QuickCam. Let me start off by saying that it fit perfectly on both dell laptops. It was extremely easy to install on both laptops (running XP). I am not a manual reader so at first I was playing around with the software until I realized that the actual video conferencing software needed a subscription. So I decided to try a free messesnger webcam viewer. I tried Yahoo Messenger and found it to be very confusing. You had to broadcast, and sometimes you got super broadcast; and sometimes not even though I always have broadband.
That experience prompted me to try the software that logitech offers. They offer a 30 day free trial; so I downloaded, installed and registered. It worked great, the picture is clear and there is very little delay. It is easy to use and fairly impressive software. It really enhanced the camera experience.
The bottom line is that this camera is great for the price. If you want to fiddle around with 3rd party software (aol, yahoo, msn) the cost really great, but performance may take a hit. If your company owns professional software for video conferencing the cost is great. If you use logitechs videocall both parties need to use it and be subscribed with defferent accounts boosting the cost. BUT there is little delay, and it is easy to use.
Does what it's supposed to do! By AQC7M4SKR353C on 2005-12-10
I really like my webcam. The picture is very clear on MSN messenger and Yahoo. Furthermore, it works fine for me with only one light on in the room. My fiance has a much more expensive camera that is grainy with a brown-tint to the picture. In contrast to his camera, mine is clear.
The clip: For me, the clip worked fine. I have a Toshiba Satellite. Also, having no desire to move the webcam all around, the short cord is sufficient.
Overall, happy with my purchase. I have a logitech headset (note: Without the headset I did experience an echo when I talked) that I use with the camera.
I like the camera, and am (thus far) not disappointed.
Happy Shopping!
Who designed the clamp? Fire their ass! By A2ZOXQOG0DEZ51 on 2005-05-18
Quality of the video is excellent on Yahoo messenger. The face tracking is so so. Audio is good on messenger. Works great for video mail through Comcast.
You can take a snapshot like a digital cam with a button on the unit (once it is clamped down), or hold it and use like digital cam.
This would have been 5 stars if the clamp was worth a crap. It is useless out of the box on my Toshiba A75 laptop. It would have been better just to let it hang on the LCD rather than this clamping design. Velcro here we come!
Better than I expected By A2NK55ALSBZ2VE on 2005-11-07
I purchased one of these last week for my laptop based on the reviews I found here. Since it's a lower cost item I wasn't expecting more than basic quality, but I was very pleasantly surprised.
The picture quality is absolutely excellent. The color on screen isn't all that true to life, but the clarity and the resolution of the picture was really good. We experimented with the still pictures and with making videos to email to friends last night. Both of those features work perfectly. The storage albums and the photo/video editing tools were also easy to use and worked flawlessly.
I wasn't all that impressed with the face tracking. It does work, but I'm not sure it's that great of a feature. For certain, it's not good if more than one person is in the picture (not surprising) since it tries to center on one person and cuts the other person out. The feature can be turned off though and then you can put several people in the shot with no problems.
I was expecting the size of the files to be a real problem for my email since I have dial-up at home. Again I was pleasantly surprised. I sent a 30 second video via email to a friend and it sent in only a few seconds. I also sent 5 of the photos in one email and that also sent instantly. I was thrilled with that based on previous experiences with other media files.
Other people have commented on the clip being a terrible design, but it worked fine on my Dell laptop. It is a little odd to figure out, but once you do, it's a good design. (More instructions for that would be useful.) I do wonder how well the clip will hold up under repeated use long term (will it stay tight or will it eventually become loose and not hold anymore) but for now I'm satisfied.
The size and appearance is also appealling. It was smaller than I'd imagined it would be when I researched it online. Kinda cute actually.
The only thing I haven't tried yet is using it for online chat. I'll do that later this week when I'm on a high speed connection. Based on it's performance so far, I would expect that to also be a first rate experience. (I wouldn't expect it to be good on my dial-up, though I will try it and see when I get a chance.)
The setup was simple and straightforward. I'm only moderately computer savvy and I had no difficulty at all in understanding the instructions or loading the software. Both the software and the device are very user friendly in my opinion.
Overall this is a really excellent product for the price and I'd highly recommend it to anyone in the market.
Read this carefully ......lol By A3NIJ8XFB3BZJ3 on 2006-01-01
Trust me buddy....after seeing different brands of webcams I have come to this conclusion that Logitech is the best in the industry.... well I am not talking about the entry level webcams where it is difficult to compare as they all suck.
This one is as good as it gets. Look around for a decent discounted price (after instant or mail-in-rebate) and grab yours. This is perfect for my laptop. It fits nicely, the picture quality is great both under natural and artificial lighting conditions. It has a lovely face-tracking feature that gets you out of those days of webcams where you had to sit stiff without any movement.
The form factor is perfect - it is real tiny !! I don't understand why a lot of people complain about fitting problems. The fitting clamp is stretchable and expands upto one inch and that should be more than enough unless you are trying to set the cam on a desktop monitor !!!
Get one with your eyes closed !
- mount does not fit all laptops
     By A20JE8A4U4RLGM on 2006-06-03
guys think twice before u buy this. quality is good. but i had a IBM think pad and the mount does not fit. the mount design is so stupid tat it is not elastic enough. this camera mount fits only on compaq, sony vaio, dell laptops.
I have to change my laptop to fit this camera. stupid camera mount
- Good video - static problems with audio
     By A21TFOTU3WNQOL on 2005-09-12
I wanted a small compact camera for sending video emails of our newborn overseas. The Logitech was hard to find - after going to three local electronics stores (all whose websites said the product was available) I could not find anyone in our town who had one. Amazon was about $15 cheaper anyway, even after shipping.
The camera itself is nice and compact. Carrying case avoids it getting scratched and damaged. Video quality is good, even in low light although the low-light adjustment can make the picture a little washed out. Have had problems with static on the audio track - after having to pay a long distance call (no 1-800 number) to Logitech, found out that the speakers on the laptop are interfering with the mic. Have to mute the sound when recording. Kind of a pain if you forget and have to retake video, but an updated driver is supposed to come out soon.
All in all, one of the better web cams I have ever purchased/used.
- Poor Support
     By A1Y0XZHJKHJQBL on 2005-11-17
I have excellent PC and Mac computer. And this is what happen.
Pro:
It works good on Windows XP, but only "1 frame per second" when using messenger.
Con:
It comes with CD for Mac OS X, but it doesn't support any mac.
I went to logitech website for help, and still doesn't work out right.
Buy as it, and that's it.
- Works great, easy to pack, good value
     By A1E7KC8UU80ZNF on 2006-01-12
Got this unit for Christmas but have used a larger Quickcam in the past on my laptop.
Was using this camera with Yahoo IM...works OK but video was slow and choppy. Was not sure if this was Yahoo, the camera, or a little bit of both. This was the same as my old webcam.
But I upgraded my Skype today to the new v2.x that has video. Skype video works AWESOME....could not believe how good it looked and how smooth the video was...especially since this is still their first version. Sype even lets you go into a full screen video mode...looked good there too even at the native resolution.
But back to the camera itself....
Main reason I wanted this was for its size. I travel quite a bit and wanted something very small and easy to pack since I also lug around quote a bit of other stuff..PDA, cell phone, laptop, etc. 5 Stars here....nice little neoprene case with velcro is included.
The unit has a spring loaded tab-like clip at its base for attaching to the top of your laptop. I've seen the mixed reviews here about this and was not really sure what to expect. But it seems to work well for my IBM T41. Fits nice and secure. I would guess this is one of those areas where no matter what it will be impossible to make it perfect for everybody. It could probably be a little better...but then it might be bigger and more expensive. I'd bet this will fit just fine for about 90-95% of laptops out there...
The cable itself is only about 2 ft...good for me since it is only going from the USB port to the top of the laptop. But some people may find this too short if they wanted to place the camera on a table or elsewhere. Obviously a USB extension cable would solve that problem.
Small complaint...the unit does indeed swivel from its base...but only about 40 Deg. max. Would have been nice to have a wider tilt range...when clipped to the laptop you will need to move the lid of the laptop to "help" out with the tilt if needed.
Absolutely no issues with software...XP-Pro SP2 here.
I indeed recommend this product to road warriors like me.
- Its really good
     By A3624O60BEBA43 on 2005-09-29
I purchased this cam from amazon.com .really its worthable . i was using this cam regularly to chat with my family members i dont hv any probs so far.It having good clarity , resolution &automatic face tracking is included in this cam. I hope my review will useful to you.
- Excellent picture quality even in low light..
     By A2IZ1ME4GVAI6H on 2006-10-08
Almost all webcams out there have good image quality when there is lots of light. What separates the men from the boys in the webcams category is low light performance. Cheaper webcams will produce crappy images - with lots of noise and grain.
I am very happy to report that this webcam, small though it is, renders excellent images in all light conditions.
The built in mic is good quality too. Sound is clear and loud.
I dont know why so many people had issues with the clip on this cam.. The clip is adjustable, so it can be pulled out to accomodate screens upto 3/4 inch thickness.. I dont think there are any laptop screens that thick anymore.
I did not use the software that came with the cam. Just install the drivers and you are good to go.
In summary, this one is a keeper. Recommended.
- Logitech Notebook webcam is EXCELLENT
     By A2UOCPRTBMRF9X on 2005-09-20
I love this webcam. Not only does it clip easilly on my laptop, but the microphone is clear and the picture is sparkeling! You can see the sweat on a person's brow and I wouldn't exchange it for the world!
- Beware of undisclosed audio issues with Logitech webcams
     By A3V833HTMP9WVO on 2006-02-26
Before buying this camera, go to the Logitech website user-discussion forums, and you will see that many users (myself included) have problems when videoconference with this (and other) Logitech webcams. The problem is that during video/audio conferencing over the Internet, the audio will go bad and result in pure static. The only way to resolve the issue is to end the call and start over, or put the call on hold and then resume a few seconds later. This is really annonying as it can happen multiple times per minute. The issue is certainly a HW or SW issue, as it is platform independent and occurs with Skype, MSN, AOL, etc. Logitech aupport has given no feedback on their website, and I will be returning my camera to the buyer or requesing a refund from Logitech for a defective product.
- Great Cam - Does it's Job Well!
     By A31R5S441X773E on 2007-10-03
I have reviewed many of the webcams for sell here and consistantly see a 4 or 5 star product (such as this) get downgraded to a 1 star because of operator error or not applying common sense. Here is my take:
1.) The Cam is half the price and just as good as most of the other webcams out there
2.) The picture is clear and fairly crisp with adequate lighting provided. Stays in focus and works great with Yahoo IM as I use it.
3.) The still camera is a bonus - great for a little something extra if you need it
4.) Small, compact design and clips right on top of most all laptops without looking too out of place and can be thrown into the case with it when traveling.
A little advice for the nay-sayers...If it locks up your system - it could mean that either:
a.) you did not have enough light provided (it was overloaded constantly trying to update frame to frame - take a picture in the dark with no flash and let me know how it turns out...now go make a movie - duh);
b.) you were overloading your old, outdated computer from 6 months ago (kidding - mine is 3 years old and it works fine when used correctly);
c.) or you are using Windows Vista (Get a MAC or go back to XP)
If you want a high-speed, low drag web cam that fits and operates perfectly with your laptop - Then you SHOULD HAVE HAD IT BUILT INTO your laptop! This is an ADD-ON. Spend the extra $200 next time you upgrade hardware.
I use this daily from Iraq, with Yahoo Voice on a 1MB internet connection (IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT IF I'M LUCKY) and have had zero, zilch, nada, no problems what so ever on a 3 year old outdated Hp Laptop(XP) with one broken light in my room...and the picture is still 10x better and the cam is 1/4 the size of the one I had 3 years ago last time I was here - for the same price.
My 5 cents worth.
- Great Picture Quality, Even In Low Light
     By A1PY6HZAU46U73 on 2005-12-14
The picture quality on this camera is incredible for its size. It automatically adjusts for low light. The only downside to this camera is that it does not auto-focus, but that is the ONLY downside. The adjustable clip fits my tiny notebook perfectly, and I can just slip it in my pocket when I'm not using it. If you are debating whether or not to buy this camera, buy it. It won't let you down!
- doesn't fit my IBM T-series laptop
     By AMARQ3IGCI0LX on 2006-07-25
The camera itself is ok. But the spring that clip on the laptop screen is too tight, it hardly gets on my IBM T-40 and T43P (~0.75 in thickness). I have a QuickCAM pro 5000 at work which works much better, although larger in size. make sure you measure your laptop screen thickness before you buy this camera.
- Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Deluxe
     By A2TMX22A2LOGUX on 2006-11-26
This was my first webcam purchase so I did a bit of research before I actually purchased it. So far, I really love it and the camera is very cute (a lot smaller than what I had imagined). Installing was very easy and very quick. I was concerned about the clip when I read the other reviews, but it fits my Dell XPS M170 laptop very well. I purchased this camera to use with Skype and the quality of the picture is great. Although it seems the picture is better on the receiving end. When I see the image on my screen, it seems grainy to me. I had planned on just using my Logitech mic that I use for gaming but when I called relatives, they said that the mic sounded good and didn't echo. The USB cord is the perfect length since I already have a jumble of wires behind my laptop so that was a plus. Only thing I really would like is auto focus but once you focus it the first time, you don't really need to adjust it anymore. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase.
- Good webcam
     By A1CK036V177ZW7 on 2007-10-24
I purchased this webcam for use with Skype on a Mac laptop. It was very easy to install and clips nicely to the screen. For use with Mac I had to install macam (http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/) for it to work. It is good, I did not give it 5 stars as with a lot of light the image is not great, but works very well in dim light.
- really good
     By AICBU8K9I65V2 on 2005-10-28
most of features are very good:
- the precision lens
- the built-in speaker
- the light & color boosts
- the image quality
however, the resolotion is just 325x240
- Never with a Mac
     By A3V7LR5OROM8I on 2005-11-03
Although this camera comes with software for Mac OS never works in my iBook. Customer services never answered my request about drivers and have not found any on the web. If you have a Mac never try this camera. I lost 60 bucks.
- Good webcam but doesn't fit well on notebook
     By A1A14RMX74F3PI on 2005-11-22
I bought this webcam last week from Amazon, it works fine n mike is good too. It doesn't work great in light but with light filter and color booster, you can make it better, so its ok. The size is small which is good to carry to anywhere u want. It doesn't fit well on the laptop and this is contrary to what I thought. Anyway, its good one overall, so go ahead friends !
- Easy, user friendly, no hassle camming
     By A2UCVVYBZVA8YW on 2006-01-31
I love it. The software installed in my Sony VAIO with no problem and the camera provides a high quality video even at low level room light. Some of the accompanying software is annoying, but not a major drawback. I also have a Logitech on my desk top. These cameras have come a long way from the first Logitech I bought only a couple of years ago and ended up giving away because the software wrecked my computer! Unless you're Steven Spielberg, this will do the trick nicely.
- Awesome clarity !!!
     By A2L35CQM9Y917N on 2006-03-17
(...)
I think its a pretty nice camera with really good video quality...!!! i had labtec webcam before .. but this webcam is way too better .. I have compared the two webcams side by side.. and Logitec wins hands-down..!!
The additional feature of mic is really handy. I have not yet tweaked with face tracking provided with this webcam !!
- Good webcam for the price
     By A3KEDZXLI0XCE4 on 2005-10-30
I bought this webcam about one month ago. I feel pretty good about it. It is easily installed, and video quality is fairly good. One minor glitch is the design of clip used to fix the camera on my notebook. It will take a few trys for you to fix it properly. Overall, I am satisfied with the camera.
- Not bad
     By ADCDPI6YCDS4 on 2005-12-08
The camera is a great size and fits pretty well on my HP laptop. However, there is no ability to zoom out and the coloring is a bit green. The cord is also a bit short to move the camera around much, but overall the product is pretty good. I've used more expensive Logitech desktop cameras and they provide better quality picture, but are much larger.
- Good cam, may not fit your display
     By A3GS7OZXUEW48R on 2005-12-15
This is a very good cam for notebooks. The images are clear and faster esp. when you use usb 2.0. You have to enable low light boosting if the lights in your room are not bring enough!Integrated mic comes very handy in keeping the computer less clumsy. Setup is easy if you install the logitech software as well. I had trouble setting up the drivers alone. I havent tried face tracking; my computer is not that fast. I'll update when I do that. (Face tracking is not mechanical, but based on software. just a selling point and not realistic).
Read the fine print about the display sizes it fits, if you have a model with a thicker display, it wont fit!! May be the description should say it more clearly or logitech should make an adapter (which seems easy!).
- love it, love it, love it
     By AUJT9QELJ1Q4Z on 2006-01-17
I recently purchased this tiny little webcam for my Dell latitude and its great. Easy to install, clips on to the top of the screen very easily (although I dont understand the little rubber thing that came with it...) and the pictures are very clear. I'm fairly tech savvy, but don't have the time to fiddle around with difficult installations and settings. This was perfect for me. Quick and painless...I am recommending this for my parents. It takes great little avi. flics too...fun!
- Good Value - Focusable; not all are you know!
     By A66OQ16APB9DR on 2006-02-13
Bought for my corp. Dell Latitude D610. I also use it with my Samsung LCD docking station monitor. Not all webcams have focus control. Focus ring is small, but does work. Spring loaded mounting clip expands to accomodate different screen flanges. If you're handy, you can foam tape a block of plastic, wood, etc. to any monitor or surface to use this on other than laptop screens. It's a better camera and mike than many of the other non laptop styles. Metal case rather than plastic. IMHO Logitech leads the market in webcam quality and value. My friend, VP Eng. at Toshiba, recommended it as he uses for his laptops. I have to agree. Only request to Logitech would be to include the "adapter block with foam tape mount" that I will have to create for mounting on other than laptop surfaces. As mentioned, only articulates forward and back, not left to right. But, I don't see that as necessary. Software is easy to install and offers straight Email video/audio AVI recordings. I looked at all the webcams on the Amazon list, and although I'm buying for my nephew's convention CRT monitor, I'm getting this camera over all the rest, including the conventional webcams for CRT's.
- It's a good webcam.
     By AGDUHXTAKZZ4E on 2006-03-05
I would say the image is fairly good. Also I like the functions like take pictures and take videos. However, the holder design is terrible. It has no way to put on a laptop like Dell or IBM. So I have to hold it by hand every time I use it. I hate to say it, but the designer must carzy. They seem never tried it on different laptops before they put it on market.
- Best choice to travellers
     By A1NXD57LOUD94G on 2006-04-25
This webcam is really good. It is very small. Picture clarity is good and innovative face tracking mechanism works greatly. Just look at one factor before purchasing this item, make sure that your notebook's LCD thickness matches with the technical specifications given.
