  • Great Gift Idea!

    By AT858QB81VN0Z on 2005-11-14
I bought this toy for my 2 year old daughter. My 5 and 8 year olds could not put it down. They loved hearing the personalized phrases. Not only can you personalize it to say the childs name, but you can also name 3 family or friends names that pooh will use in context. This is a really great toy and would make a unique gift. You are able to personalize it without even taking the doll out of the box!

  • Pooh Doesn't Know My Name

    By A3A7FQM9QBDTDK on 2005-12-25
I saw this and just HAD to have it for my son! How cool! A toy that says my child's name in it's own voice, instead of recording mine! And it was great that it came in a Pooh variety instead of being stuck with the ever popular (but totally despisable Elmo). But when Daddy and I went to go program Pooh before giving him for Christmas, we couldn't find our son's name! Now, we understand that Kyncaid (or regularly spelled Kincaid) is not necessarily popular, that's why we chose it and we know we'll run into this problem with lots of toys for years to come. But I'm disappointed that Pooh would know Abednigo, Kalavati, Zoltan, and Norshawna, but not Kincaid. I highly suggest you visit their website and check their names list before you purchase this toy.

Additionally, it's great that this toy allows you to pre-program it before giving it as a gift. But beware, there is no off switch. So if you program it and wrap it, and the present is just sitting there under the tree it will announce meals as you programmed them as well as naps and bedtime. Not much of a surprise if you're opening it at these specific times.

  • Pooh needs some TLC

    By A2DL24T60W8MCO on 2005-12-28
We are on our second Pooh. The first one had all of the download problems listed in previous reviews. We tried on 2 desktop computers and a laptop multiple times, using different cables and replacing the batteries before throwing in the towel and exchanging for a different Pooh. A couple of things that we did differently was connecting the USB cable before selecting the personalized information and making sure the connection is really tight. (During the first download of our first Pooh, the USB connection was not pushed in completely and my computer geek husband said that may have damaged the flash memory).

So, the second Pooh is working very well. My 18 month old daughter LOVES it and is throwing it around with + It is also quite amusing for the adults (an added bonus for toys with sound). Occasionally when Pooh says her name it sounds a little rough, but for the most part the name just flows, like he is really talking just to her. I was disappointed in the food selection - she goes crazy for peas - but alas that is not a food choice.

*note - one of the reviews mentioned that there is no "off" button - that is not true, it is on the voice box on the side where you plug in the USB cable*

  • Loosing time

    By A3L1FSC3A2L42D on 2006-01-06
We got this for our son for Christmas and love it. Lucky enough it did have his name and his sisters name to program. However, the daily schedule looses about 30 seconds everyday, and before you know it, it's telling him it's time to eat dinner at 4:30 rather than the 5:00 I had it set for. So I have to re-sync it with the computer every few days. Also, Pooh has yet to mention my son's birthday or do the 'countdown', and that was a feature we were really excited about. All in all, it's a fun toy, and we're glad we got it for our son to play with.

  • POOH DOESN'T SAY MY SON'S NAME RIGHT

    By A3HTSJLOEF2SQ1 on 2005-11-19
I WAS IN TOYS R US TODAY AND SAW A DISPLAY FOR THESE DOLLS. U CAN PROGRAM THE DISPLAY TO SAMPLE HOW YOUR CHILD'S NAME WOULD SOUND IF U PURCHASED ONE OF THESE DOLLS (ELMO, DORA, OR POOH) MY SON'S NAME IS DOMENIC BUT WINNIE THE POOH SAID DOMENIC FUNNY, DORA DIDN'T SOUND LIKE IT AT ALL!!!! BUT THE ELMO ONE SAYS HIS NAME PERFECT. I WOULD RECOMMEND TRYING THE DISPLAY IN THE STORE FOR YOUR CHILD'S NAME BEFORE PURCHASING ONE OF THESE JUST TO MAKE SURE.

  • Pooh knows my name
    By A3OJR90YOO9DQP on 2006-01-22
I purchased both the Pooh and Dora dolls for my daughter. Both dolls had her name, but Dora was the only one that had options for pronounciation. Her name is Avery, pronounced "Av-ree" Pooh will only say "A-ver-ee" Also when he says her name, his voice drops in tone and sounds very out of place. I have also had trouble with the dolls losing time. When I bought the dolls, I was under the impression that they were able to do many games, songs, and stories all at once. (the box says over 100). In auctuality, the doll only does three activities at once and so you have to choose from the song, story, and game lists. Currently I have been choosing one activity from each list which means that I have to get on my computer every week or so and change the settings so my daughter can have a different thing to listen to. The box should say that they do over 100 games, stories, games, and phrases, just not all at once. My daughter enjoys the dolls, but to me they are very aggrevating. My last thought is that if you purchase the doll, be sure to set the daily schedule a little ahead of your child. I had her breakfast schedule set at 8am, but on mornings when she was sleeping in a little, Pooh and Dora woke her up announcing breakfast. I now have it set at 9am even though she's already up and running by then.

  • Not all that exciting
    By A3HDRP3NQHWETU on 2007-04-01
I didn't have any trouble with software, and my son's name was on the list. Someone else claimed it doesn't have an on/off switch, but that's not true, it's on the internal box that you plug into the computer.

The main problem with this toy is the same problem with a lot of electronic toys. It doesn't really do much, and nags your child constantly to play with it. It will tell your child when it's time for lunch or a nap or something, but it's not like they're going to be carrying around 24/7 so they're around to hear it. Mostly what it does is say "let's keep playing, shall we? Squeeze my hand." Then when you do, it proclaims it likes the same food or animal that your child likes. Then it asks to have it's hand squeezed again.

My son is probably a little young for it, but I can't see him getting all that much fun out of squeezing a teddy bears hand over and over and listening to it be an electronic yes-man.

Also, it's internal clock is not all that good and if you don't plug it into your computer to update it every week or so, pretty soon it will be telling your kid it's time for breakfast at 4:00 in the morning.

It's not a terrible toy but you're probably better off with toys that engage your child's imagination.

  • Wonderful product, easy to program!
    By A1HLRYUMXHO0RO on 2006-12-21
I bought this toy on clearance at a local store for around $12, got it home and after reading the box, realized that I didn't even have to take it out to program it. The box has a flap in the back that lifts up for easy access to the toy, the software that you use with your computer and the usb cable! It came equipped with everything you need to download it! I pulled the cable out, hooked it up to the toy, turned the toy to the "on" position, hooked the other end of the cable up to one of my PC's USB ports, and inserted the CD ROM into the drive. The software downloaded and the onscreen directions were so easy to follow. It took only about 15 minutes in all to get it ready for my daughter to play with. This is a Christmas present, so after I got him programmed, I had to remember to turn him "off" on his box so that once he was wrapped and under the tree, he wouldn't be "talking", etc. The only downfall I can mention with this toy is that he can only be programed for 3 songs/stories. You get to select up to 3 songs/stories from the software. I wanted 3 songs and 3 stories, but had to choose at total of 3 alltogether. So I chose two songs, and 1 story. But it was easy to do, and he is ready to go...it was a bargain for me to catch him on clearance, and be able to program him so easily.

  • Perfect Gift
    By AEFJ9O8YT9SF5 on 2005-11-26
I bought this for both of my sons who are 3 and 1 1/2. They were very easy to program. It was nice to have the option to program my older son's with games and songs that were tailored to his age and the same for my little one. I also sewed a felt letter on Pooh's shirt with each of my son's first initial so it was even more personalized and we can tell them apart. I know that my boys are going to love them on Christmas morning.

  • Works on some XP SP2 systems, but not all
    By A3243SEVDNQ72B on 2005-12-20
I spent a long time trying to download my settings to Pooh. First I got several "incorrect doll" messages, and then several of the notorious "download failed" messages. I called customer service, and the representative was sure that if I put in new batteries it would work. If not, I'd need to uninstall and reinstall the software. I did both, and neither made any difference. I also tried plugging into different USB ports, directly into the computer or through a hub - no difference.

Finally I installed the software on my laptop, which also runs XP SP2. It worked without a hitch.

I'm really not sure what the significant difference was between my two systems. As far as the OS is concerned, they should be identical. They are both on XP SP2 and updated automatically through Windows Update.

Bottom line, I think my son will enjoy it when he opens it this Christmas. But if I didn't have the perseverance to keep at it, and a second computer(!), it would've gone back to the store. Another reviewer who works in the computer field also said he had to use a different computer. With that in mind, my advice if you want this or any of the "Knows Your Name" dolls is to try it, and if it doesn't work the first time, either return it or use another computer. There's no need to waste your time experimenting or calling customer service.

  • My daughter loves Pooh
    By A1WSWYBS0Z9XT2 on 2005-12-22
I read many customer reviews before buying this product. I did not have any problems downloading. I was concerned about the food choices as a few other customers have stated, but I spoke with a friend who ahs done some toy work and she explained that some characters, such as Pooh, may be limited in what they can say. For instance if Pooh said he loves ham or bacon, that would mean he is eating his friend Pigglet. Once she told me that, then it made sense that there were no meat options. Although my daughters favorite is chicken sticks, I found several other foods she loves.

My daughter fell in love with Pooh when he said her name. You can't put a price on that kind of joy.

  • Pooh does not know COMMON names!!!!
    By A2V9NMUT9IPVBH on 2005-12-23
My Mom bought this to give to my son for Christmas. We sat down at the computer yesterday to get everything uploaded, etc. So I load up the software, go to select my son's name and there is no NATHANIEL - only Nathan, no Nate even! There are 15,000 names, most of which I have never heard of and Nathaniel isn't one of them? Makes no sense. So beware, even if you think your child has a "normal" name, Pooh may not know it!

  • Download problems also
    By A2JK4PZYL4CWTG on 2005-12-24
I purchased both the Pooh and Dora Knows Your Name for my children. I had no problems with the Dora download, but I could not get the Pooh download to work. After reading the other reviews, I tried to download Pooh from my laptop and it worked immediately. So, I definitely agree with the others... if you can't get the download to work from one computer, you will probably have success with a different computer. I just wish I had read the reviews sooner so I wouldn't have wasted so much time changing batteries, reinstalling software, trying other USB ports, etc.! Other than the problems with the download, I think my son will greatly enjoy this toy.

  • Of all the junk I've bought...
    By A19OGW5YP7JSSG on 2006-10-30
    I hear you, guys!
After choosing all my son's "favorites" I finally get it just how I want and the **** thing keeps giving me the "Not Connected. Try Again." message! I unplugged it, plugged it in, unplugged it... My computer (OS: XP) was doing that "I'm connected to something" bong-sound, but alas, nothing! I was about to give up, but tried another USB port and IT WORKED! :-)

I too was SO excited about this toy. How cool that Pooh can say "Ryan" and sings on cue... Well, almost... He says everyting in a random order (okay, I understand it's a TOY) and pressing his hotspots won't change what he is already saying... It's a primative talking toy to say the least.

Who doesn't like Pooh though? He is adorable. The battery box sticks out a little too far in the back, which causes a hard spot, and his shirt doesn't fully cover the opening, so I see that as a future problem...

I eagerly await future software updates as well. It would be nice if Pooh WOULD eat meat since my son's favorite dinner is chicken and NOT CHERRY PIE! What are "haycorns" anyway? :-)

Go ahead, buy it. Give it a whirl, but keep your receipt. My son has yet to see it... :-)

  • My kids love it!
    By A3GDXXAN8FWNAC on 2007-06-26
Pooh was a gift for my daughter who is two and she loves it. She is so amazed that Pooh says her name and all the things she loves like chocolate milk. My son also loves it (he's 4) so when he wants to play with Pooh I just download his name and favorite things. It's quick and easy. If I can figure it out anyone can!

They both love it! Pooh is very soft and cuddly and you can program 3 names in addition to your child's name. You can also program your child's favorite foods at breakfast lunch and dinner. He also knows when it's time to eat, take a nap or bedtime. I'm just as impressed with it as my kids are. This is a great toy!

  • Pooh doesn't like Windows XP
    By A3BPA291MQT9HE on 2005-12-08
Didn't work. And I have the Elmo one too. Neither of the programs downloaded to the dolls from either of my XP machines (one's a laptop, one desktop). And I have an 98 machine that's too old. I REALLY do not want to return them!! I just want them to WORK!! I don't have ANY $$ now to buy something else like this. These were IT for my 3 and 1 1/2 year olds! I had bought them matching Pooh and Elmo slippers. I thought Fisher Price/Mattel was a GOOD toy company. I guess I was wrong! Didn't they TEST this on XP FIRST?? Where's the software patch for this problem?? I'm WAITING!!!!
    ......
    (DEC 8, 2006):
    ......
I just wrote one review last night. I have called FP/Mattel and nothing has changed! They suggested replacing the batteries. I did that. Then I re-downloaded BOTH dolls. The only thing now is that is does say "Hello...(my child's name)", but when you push it again, it says about 2 words and then is cut off with some static and nothing further happens. This happened on BOTH of the Pooh AND Elmo dolls on 2 SEPARATE computers. I have Windows XP that has been updated for SP 2. Maybe it's the service pack 2 or even 1 doing the problems. I can remove it from my desktop computer (the NEW laptop from HP has it all integrated) and see if that works. So, maybe with everyone that it works with has vunerable computers since they never update their computers.
My 3 yr old saw the Elmo one, and I had to tell him it's broken. Christmas this year will suck for him when he'll get his Elmo slippers and no Elmo doll that he SAW while I was trying to fix it this morning while on the phone with FP today. I even asked for a supervisor. Apparently, they were all too busy and they flagged my "claim" and escalated it to a supervisor. Or so they say.
The toys go back tomorrow. I feel like ripping my hair OUT! FP will be VERY busy the day after Christams for those parents that don't program it until Christmas day or eve after FP is closed. Glad I don't work there! LOL!
I looked at my reciept..I was mistaken..I wasted over $86 (shipping and tax) on these things. ARGH!!!

  • addendum to prior review
    By AZU32WZHW7BK on 2005-12-17
Well, I took the doll to work with me and used a 2000 sp4 test box to download the data to. It worked with no issues. The doll itself is extremly soft and will surely be a long time friend to my daughter.
I would have given it 5 stars but the issues with XP sp2 and the lack of customer support regarding this issue drops it down. I also would like to know who came up with the meal choices for kids. Neither hotdogs or chicken nuggets are listed for any of the meals. Maybe I am a cruddy Dad who feeds my kid bad food, but i have never met a kid who didn't like hotdogs or chicken nuggets. Oddly enough, crumpets is listed as a meal choice. Hopefully there will be a way to update the software in the future.

  • Pooh doesn't know my kid's name
    By A31OEM5VNAFYP8 on 2005-12-19
I have a daughter, Lucy. That's a pretty common name. However Pooh isn't programed with that one. He knows a lot of names that I've never heard of, but is missing quite a few common ones. The customer support for this error is poor. I also had the download issues that the other customers reported even though I am using XP. I had high hopes for this toy after its write-up in Time, but I was very disappointed and am returning it.

  • Download worked fine with XP
    By AAA4NILOSUHA6 on 2005-12-20
I had no trouble using the program and doing the download.

I didn't really like the way he said my son's name.

The Toys R Us had several remaining Poohs, but they had no Elmos or Doras left

This was shipped to my grandson for his first birthday and the package that the Pooh came in was all riped and torned like it was opened up and return. I wrote to you and you took cared of it. It was nice to know that you took the time to fix the situtation and make it better.

  • Don't waste your money.......
    By A1FK14ZCV3B1RA on 2007-03-25
Don't waste your money on this Pooh. My son got him for Christmas and didn't really care anything about him. I know that you can change the songs but our Pooh says Happy Birthday to my son every day. I probably can change that, though. He doesn't keep the time. Every day he got more and more off until he was singing and talking in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT and AT NAP TIME! Well, needless to say, he he is no longer with us! He lives in the garage. My husband put him out there after he woke my son up, AGAIN! I will be storing him in the attic soon. I wouldn't recommend for anyone to purchase him. He says my son's name really funny too. I was extremely disappointed with this.

  • WATCH OUT!!!!! BUYER BEWARE!!!
    By A2BDNO29R9BBUZ on 2005-12-10
I bought this toy for our 2 year old daughter who loves personalized phrases however, when I took the doll home and out of the box to program it, it's NOT compatible with Windows XP Service Pack 2. Imagine that Matel/Fisher Price not up to snuff on the computer world, but building an interactive doll for children that REQUIRES A COMPUTER FOR THE THING TO WORK!!! I called coustomer service where a nice young lady politely told me I was stupid and talked to me like a third grader explaining check the cable, change the battery, and "Oh well even we don't know what is going on, we pushed it out too fast and we sold more than we expected. I know you are on your second doll (returned first one to THAT-MART), but I'll send you a shipping label and you can send it back to us (at your expense) and I will send you a new one from another batch. Hope that works." She Then proceded to tell me that it would not make it back to my house until FEB or so.
    Thanks Matel/Fisher Price

  • DOES work with Windows XP
    By A2I4I9Z2T9LUOJ on 2005-12-16
Yes, you do get a warning from Windows that it is not 'Windows Logo Tested' and MAY make your OS unstable but you can still continue to install the software. If you see the review of the DORA knows your name another customer called Mattell and they said that it was fine to go ahead and install. For the record I have seen this warning many times installing various programs. I have Windows XP SP2 and did not have any problems. So again go ahead and install it, it will work just fine.

  • Failed to download info to doll
    By AFNF3VQLY2HUJ on 2005-12-16
I have been working in the computer field for the past 10 years. I can not for the life of me get this dang thing to download the info to the doll. I am running XP sp2 and some folks have eluded to this being the issue. I will take the doll to work and try it out on one of my test boxes. I will let you folks know if I can get it to work.

  • No problems with my new XP computer!!!
    By AQR82QP3IE8GC on 2005-12-17
I saw this toy on "The View" this morning, and rushed to my nearest Wal-Mart to get one for my daughter. I just installed the software and programmed the toy with absolutely no problems! I have a relatively new laptop running Windows XP SP2.

I do agree with the reviewer who mentioned the limited choices of favorite foods. Maybe my child is just unusual, but her favorites are chicken, broccoli, and peaches, and none of those are on the list of choices. I would have also liked some brand names, like Cheerio's and Coke. It would be great if Fisher-Price offered software updates in the future, but my child will be 100% thrilled with her "Winnie the Pooh" just as it is!!!

  • Pooh is has severe problems!
    By A3JT1QCEZQWEPZ on 2005-12-17
Just received this doll for my daugher for Christmas and thought I would program early so she could play with it right away. Ugh! Kept telling me download failed, so we tried a different USB cable to see if that was the problem. It still said download failed. Pressed the button anyway to see if it would play and he said his little phrase to squeeze his hand. Well when I squeezed his hand he said Hello and cut off. Pressed the hand again and he says the same exact phrase as when you press his tummy. I can't get him to say anything else. It also has this scratchy sound when he talks. Well, this doll will need to go back. No point in even giving it to her because I will have to take it back and she will be waiting several weeks for a new one.

  • Disappointed with name list
    By A2YEVQ4XS2YMN1 on 2006-12-20
I had to return this product for my son because I couldn't get his name which is unique. If they make a product they should have something on it to make unique names by typing it in if it's not on the list. I mean there are more and more unique name sout there and there sure will be more. If i was a rich person I am sure I could have had one made just for him. Get witht the real world people and make things so unique people can have things too.

  • Adorable!
    By A2UEM494W3KX21 on 2007-03-18
I absolutely loved it!!! Very easy to personalize and even changed the message without a problem. (for those who had a problem, it probably was the demo batteries, replace them and everything should be fine) My niece LOVED it... was fascinated because Pooh knew her name, her favorite people, color, food, etc... much nicer than the pre-programmed electronic sing-a-long plush.

One suggestion, give this to your child a few days before their birthday... Pooh countdowns to their birth date (and plays a birthday song as one of the options)!

    Very cool product!

  • 5 computers and 12 USB ports later
    By A21C2U4JOZUUZW on 2007-04-13
I got this item after reading a lot of peoples reviews on multiple sites. For the most part they all said that it didn't work on one computer but did on another. Well I own a Mac and know that Pooh wasn't compatible with that but I have access to multiple PC's at work. Well I brought the item to work followed the instructions on installing the program disc and choosing my setting and then I go to plug Pooh in and it doesn't upload. So I go to trouble shoot the item and go to Fisher-Prices web site and trouble shoot my bear and they tell me that there is nothing they can do but to send it back. Well I am stubborn and I read some more reviews and decided that I should try other computers. I went to four other computer and tried all of their available USB ports and still nothing. 5 computers and 12 USB ports later it looks like Pooh doesn't know my childes name and is getting sent back to Fisher-Price heaven. Fisher-Price acknowledges this problem and yet they don't have a patch to fix it. Oh well, just know that buying this product could potentially cause you to kill Pooh.

  • "Pooh-Pooh" On Customer Complaints
    By A2MYEDHMJESWGS on 2007-10-28
I just got this item called Pooh Knows Your Name from an Amazon merchant as this item will be for my roommate/best friend whom turns 28 years old in slightly over a month but I already have this huggable, loveable little Pooh bear all ready to go much ahead of time!! I thought she might very well enjoy this item since she does like Pooh but I'm not sure how much she REALLY enjoys a good Pooh or two so I'll take my chances on this one, though. I ordered the Elmo one for myself and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT...I LOVE ELMO!! As for this birthday gift from me to my roommate/best friend,I pray that she'll enjoy it since I'm having LOADS OF FUN with Elmo plus my roommate/best friend is well enjoying my Elmo so I have a sneaking suspicion that she'll enjoy this cuddly little Pooh but to forwarn her and everyone else whom is either considering buying this Pooh OR collect Pooh so be prepared!! Pooh will talk at random IF switch IS NOT turned off, that is. Pooh is a good little cuddly bear whom deserves his special reward...a sweet smackeral of...you guessed it,honey!! Yum,yum!!
